Fuuka's Last Kiss

Chapter X - Doubt

"Hehehe - It wont be long now, will it? Before those lips of yours are mine!" - Fuuka

Sai, Fuuka and Sumire were stopped on their way to the Hidden Waterfall Village. Three Ninjas from Taki blocked their way to their destination.

"We were expecting you," one said.

"Hisame told us to expect visitors," the other said.

"But honestly, we were expecting more guests." the last one said.

The three hooded figures looked down at the trio. Sai and Sumire seemed focused but composed. Only Fuuka seemed a little angry.

Sai suddenly unwrapped a red and black striped scroll while pulling out his brush simultanously. It took him only seconds before his piece of art was completed - but it didn't stop here. Several birds rose from the paper, to all appearances some kind of hawks. The speed and bravura with which Sai performed his Jutsu surprised her. Fuuka had often seen Fuen perform her Jutsus in the same way - with brush on paper - but from her perspective, Fuen's techniques seemed boring and unspectacular in comparison. Sai's technique was eye-catching, but the coolness he exuded had something of swagger in her eyes.

After all, he's almost as cocky as she is.

The three Taki Ninjas drew their swords to ward off the birds, but instead of flying toward them, they flew straight past them. They glided vertically upward, towards the sky, and when they left the dense canopy of the forest behind them, they split up.

"What was that?" came out of Fuuka.

It wasn't just the enemy trio who looked confused. Fuuka also frowned as the drawn flying objects took off. First she looked perplexedly at Sai, then at Sumire - both still seemed completely composed. Sai tilted his head slightly in her direction. His black eyes looked into her confused face. Fuuka's eyes, glowing turquoise-blue in the sunlight, countered the serious look. His message was clear: "Trust me! I know what I'm doing."

Despite the rapid technological development in the Shinobi world in recent years, communication between villages was still based on carrier pigeons. These flying letter carriers sometimes traveled for days before reaching their destination. If Hisame had gave in to the interrogation of her, it would potentially had revealed a large part of their plans and could possibly jeopardize the entire operation - depending on how much the Kunoichi knew herself or told them. If the village chief Shibuki knew about the operation, he would not hesitate to inform the Hokage of what he had found out. Although the Land of the Waterfall directly bordered the Land of Fire, Sai seemed to assume that there was still a possibility of intercepting Shibuki's message before it reached the Hokage, before it could do serious damage. Sai's quick thinking also left a lasting impression on Fuuka.

I'm beginning to understand why Fuen thinks so highly of him.

"Huh?"

"Hahaha - Either your pets are as dumb as they look..."

"... Or you should work on your aim a little bit. Just watching this was painful enough, not gonna lie."

The Taki trio seemed to have a habit of finishing each other's sentences. But next they were going to speak in the same time.

"Fire-Style: Synergy Jutsu Karura!"

Intense beams of fire formed in front of the Taki Ninjas and coalesced into a monstrous fire dragon that flew toward them. The patch of forest they were in was smothered in smoke and fire, but Fuuka was able to dodge in time and remained unharmed, but the group was separated. She had solid ground under her feet again, but down here it was darker than up there. The leafy roof of the forest allowed only isolated rays of sunlight to touch the ground.

Suddenly she heard a rustling of leaves behind her, and before she knew it, a gray blade came menacingly close to her face. She barely managed to deflect the attack with a Kunai. The dark brown eyes stared at her. Fuuka pressed against her opponent's blade with her Ninja weapon, and the Taki Ninja jumped back.

"You think you can impress me with something like this, boy?"

The Taki Ninja did not answer her.

"Let me show you, how impressive I can be."

The Ninja frowned.

"With what?"

Fuuka placed a hand on her hip and smiled seductively.

"With my body."

"Huh?"

"What do you prefer? French or traditional?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean kissing, of course."

"You... you want to... make out with me?"

"Hehehe – that's right, Honey. What do you say?"

Fuuka had a hard time reading her counterpart's emotions, but she didn't have to. So far, hardly anyone has been able to resist her charms. The majority of her adversaries surrendered to her willingly, and the few who didn't, she made docile by other means - after all, she was not only a successful seductress, but also a powerful Ninja.

"Eww!"

Her opponent pulled the black bandana which covered her face away. This Taki Ninja was apparently a female. She had shoulder-length brown hair. Visibly disgusted by Fuuka's offer, she held out her palm to the Kunoichi in refusal.

"Not in a hundred years. Who would want to start something with such an old hag like you anyway?!"

She pointed a finger at her face.

"Besides that I'm a woman, as you can see."

Fuuka tilted her head.

"Oh dear, do you think I've only had men? Well, you're wrong."

The Taki Kunoichi looked at her skeptically for a while, then shook her head as if to get rid of a thought that had crept into her mind. She pointed the tip of her Katana blade at Fuuka.

"Whatever, I don't care. I'll finish you off, here and now!"

The red-haired Kunoichi put her Kunai away and ran her hand through her long hair.

"You'd better not. You don't stand a chance against me anyway!"

Without another word, the brown-haired Kunoichi formed finger signs.

"Lightning-Style: Lightning Ball!"

Several orbs of lightning Chakra formed around the woman.

I see. Besides the fire element, she also possesses lightning based Chakra. Another element I need to reacquire.

The electrically-charged, blue-white balls came flying at Fuuka one after another, but it seemed easy for her to dodge them. But her opponent did not give up; she used the moment when Fuuka was put on the defensive to jump into the air to attack from above, making it harder for Fuuka to find cover or dodge. She threw a Shuriken and abruptly formed more finger signs.

„Multi Phantom Shuriken Jutsu!"

The single Shuriken suddenly became a dozen. However, Fuuka did not move. She did not try to dodge, but smiled defiantly at her opponent as she in turn formed her fingers.

„Wind-Style: Scattering Flower Dance!"

The air around Fuuka began to circulate, and the woman suddenly found herself at the center of a beautiful, pink-colored tornado. Petals could be made out, clinging to her long, red hair. The whirlwind expanded and came flying toward the attacker. Before the Shuriken could became a threat to Fuuka, they were send back to the Taki Kunoichi. Still in the air, she tried to parry her own projectiles with her sword, but the Shurikens were too many and too fast. They hit her. Blood spurted from her body before the whirlwind could hurl her against the nearest tree trunk.

"Argh!"

More blood flowed from her mouth and she slumped. Her eyes were closed and her face fixed on the ground, but after a short while her eyelids opened again. Tentatively, she lifted her head - and to her suprise, Fuuka's face was so close that the tips of their noses were almost touching.

"Reaper kiss!"

Shocked, her brown eyes widened as she found the woman's red-painted lips pressing against her mouth and her tongue invading her body. But the state of shock didn't last long; her pupils lost their luster, her gaze went blank and aimless as her Chakra materialized and became visible on her skin as Fuuka absorbed it. After a while, nothing but an empty shell remained of her.

"So this is where you are."

Sai stepped towards the Kunoichi. Fuuka looked surprised for the moment - she hadn't heard him coming. She turned to him and the body of her opponent fell to the ground. Sai looked at the dead Taki woman - her corpse looked as if it had been underground for weeks. He didn't seem particularly surprised by the sight, but emotions were pretty much never shown by the young man anyway.

"From the looks of it, you've had your fun."

Fuuka remained silent.

"Did it not came into your mind that she might have had useful information, and we could have questioned her?"

Fuuka continued to remain silent.

"Next time, wait before you make any-"

Before Sai could finish his announcement, he was grabbed by the red-haired woman on his collar and slammed against the very tree trunk by her where only a moment ago the Kunoichi from Taki had been executed by her kiss.

"Don't question me again, or you'll regret it, boy!"

Her threat had something concrete and serious about it, for at his feet an example was been seen of what could happen to him if he made Fuuka too angry. She glared at him, but there was more; Fuuka felt a desire within her as she stared into his pale face. She wanted him. She wanted his body, but this time that feeling was different from the feeling she usually felt in these kind of moments. It wasn't the desire she had when she thought about Naruto - less lethal. The young man frowned discreetly, then quickly grabbed her by her wrists, so quickly that she couldn't prepare for it, and twisted them.

"Argh! You damn..."

Now he in return threw her against the trunk so that the roles were reversed. He drew his eyebrows together.

"I'm in charge of this mission. That means you'll do what I say."

Sai's voice was determined. He looked confident. Fuuka and Sai gazed into each other's eyes for a moment longer, then he slowly eased away from her so that her hands were free again. Fuuka's anger slowly receded from her face. Sai's pitch-black pupils sparkled as his mouth hesitantly opened and stood open afterwards. Then, instead of looking confident anymore, he seemed uncertain and nervous. It seemed as if he doubted whatever feelings he had while starring at her. A young woman's voice broke through this brief moment of silent intimacy.

"The two have regained consciousness, Sai."

Without hesitation, Sai turned away from Fuuka, as if he had only been waiting for a suitable opportunity to break away from this situation.

"Very well." he answered her curtly.

Fuuka followed the two. She saw the two other Taki Ninjas lying back to back. Both of their bodies were held in check by a rope. Their hands were also tied. They also appeared to have been female. One had short, light brown hair and seemed to just beginning to regain consciousness. The other woman had short, gray hair. She appeared to be hysterical.

"W-What are you going to do with us now? You – You will let us go, yes? I swear we won't tell anything to anyone!"

Sai walked in a circle around them.

"It depends."

"On – On what?"

Sai's blade went to her throat faster than she could swallow.

"On what you can tell us."

Without hesitation, the sweaty Kunoichi blurted out everything she knew. Apparently Shibuki knew about Hisame's mission from the start, which is why it was easy for the Ninjas of Taki to track her down and take her into custody even before she could pose a threat. The woman also claimed that the information about Hisame's mission was leaked to them by some insider, but Sai doubted her words - it could just as well been the case that Hisame was too careless and had set the reason for her failure herself. But what reason would the Taki woman had to lie to them when her life was at stake? It all seemed a bit suspect, and the fact that this Kakashi was there in the village as well, coincidentally right now at this time, didn't make it any better. What was certain was that Hisame was still alive. They had to find her, and they had to take care of her – whatever that meant.

"Please, you have to believe me. I'm telling the truth! This is all I know!" the woman affirmed. "Will you let us go now? You promised that if we-"

There was a short but loud hiss, and the heads of the two Kunoichi fell to the forest floor before she could finish her sentence. They rolled a few feet until they hit a moss-covered fallen tree trunk that lay nearby.

"I'm sorry."

Sai didn't hesitated to do what he thought was nescessary. His Tantō shined in the same red color as Fuuka's unique hair.

Sumire looked horrified for a split moment, but she seemed disciplined enough to regain her composure shortly after. Fuuka tilted her head down and looked at Sai.

She smiled.

Thanks for reading my work so far. I hope you enjoy reading this story as much as I enjoy writing it. We reached the 10th chapter. I'm so excited, we're coming closer to the Finale with every new chapter but I am probably going to expand the Taki arc a little bit because I want to use the opportunity to showcase the characters of Shibuki and Hisame a little bit more because we know very little about them. I'm also thinking to make another flashback chapter like the one in which you could learn that Fuuka and Minato had a past as well. Unfortunaly I will not have time to release the next chapter in the next weeks or so, so please be patient with me. We'll discover more of Fuuka's past and future soon enough.

Stay safe!
