Fuuka's Last Kiss
Chapter XVII - Void
"You're the leaves bathing in the sun - I am the roots growing in the dark." - Danzō Shimura
64 years earlier...
It was dark and silent. The smoke clouds obscured his view of the clear sky, which he had been able to see before the battle errupted. Even though Hiruzen could no longer see the stars, he knew they were there. Even if the light of peace did not show itself to him in the darkness of war, he knew that this light existed. He knew it was there - but peace still seemed intangible and distant to him. The waves of the first war of this kind and scale swept over the Shinobi World, leaving nothing but death, hardship, misery, and destruction along its way.
Why me? Why did Tobirama choose me as Hokage?
Hiruzen lay motionless on the ground, his eyes half closed. He no longer had the strength to stand up on his own. The weight of his own body and the responsibility he held kept him on the ground. He thought he would die. Lying in his own pool of blood, his memories and the unanswered questions that continued to plague him welled up before his eyes. Then they fell closed.
"Hiruzen! Hiruzen, wake up! Don't go limp now - no time for a nap!"
His eyes snapped open again - and he looked into the face of someone very familiar to him. A man he trusted. A man he loved. Even though the newly-appointed Hokage's view and mind were still foggy by exhaustion, he recognized him immediately by his voice.
Kagami.
Kagami bent over his stricken friend. Blood was leaking from the Uchiha's left eye, but actually both eyes of him shined red. Kagami's eyes reminded Hiruzen of the stars.
"We have to get out of here - fast!"
Hiruzen's senses gradually reawakened, and he abruptly realized that the fight was not over - not even for him. The man grabbed him on his shoulders. He could smell burning wood. He heard Shuriken hissing through the air and Kunais clashing. Then his eyelids fell shut again.
"Kagami!"
Two men suddenly appeared in front of the Shinobi carrying the Hokage. One of them was a burly figure, the other bore a deep scar on his face. But they were not enemies, they were allies - but not just any allies, but close comrades who were very familiar to Kagami. Like himself, Torifu Akimichi and Danzō Shimura were not only members of the same escort unit but also longtime friends.
"Danzō, Torifu, good to see you. Here, Torifu, take Hiruzen."
Kagami handed the unconscious Hokage over to his comrade, who looked anxiously at the newly-appointed Hokage's face. Danzō gave Kagami a questioning look, but Kagami knew that a certain accusation also stood out in his gaze, as if Danzō were accusing him.
"Is he still alive?"
"Yes, for now."
Kagami grabbed Torifu's shoulder with one hand, still looking at Hiruzen as if transfixed and full of worry.
"And you must make sure it stays that way."
He looked to Danzō again.
"Take him to safety. Make sure nothing happens to him."
Torifu Akimichi, Danzō Shimura, and Kagami Uchiha had known each other since academy days. They knew immediately what he was up to. Before Kagami spoke the words, Danzō's eyebrows were already drawing together.
"I'll buy you some time."
"No, that wont happen!"
"Torifu!"
"I'm staying. You go."
"In my current state, I'd be too slow. I'd never make it back in time, not with Hiruzen in tow - you know that!"
"But-"
"You have to go. You know how important it is that Hiruzen stays alive. How important he is for the future of the village – for all of us! The mission comes first!"
Danzō looked thoughtful at first, but then nodded in agreement.
"He's right. You and I have the best chance of making it back with Hiruzen."
Kagami looked back at Danzō. Their relationship was special - Kagami would sacrifice himself for Danzō without batting an eye. From the outside, their relationship seemed professional and distant, but the two were bound by a deep bond of mutual trust and respect. They gazed silently into each other's eyes. Torifu also realized that he could no longer dissuade him from his plan and that this was the most sensible course of action - Hiruzen was too important. He reluctantly gave in. Kagami now placed his other hand on his shoulder as well. Their headbands touched and their eyes closed - there had been no need to speak for the friends to understand each other. Then Kagami turned away. From his right eye, something liquid was now leaking too - but it was not blood.
"I'll catch up with you."
They were about to leave, but Torifu couldn't help but pause and look back.
"Torifu - we don't have much time!", Danzō said.
Torifu and Danzō disappeared into the shadows. Kagami closed his eyes and concentrated. Time and space around him slowed down. Kagami knew that a group of enemies had already targeted him, even before his eyes could see them. Without another word, he leapt into the air and formed finger signs in a flash.
"Fire-Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!"
It was dark and silent. Kagami was lying on the floor - his eyes were closed.
Am I... am I dead?
A smell crept into his nose. A smell that was very familiar to him as a Shinobi, but that he could never really get used to: the smell of death. His eyes opened and looked up at the night sky that presented itself to him. The sky was clear and the stars twinkled in all their glory.
I wonder if they made it. I wonder if the Hokage is safe. They must be...
He turned his head to the side and looked into the face of a young woman who was looking in his direction - but her gaze was cold and blank. Smoke was rising from her body. He remembered her face. And most of all, remembered the agonized scream that emanated from the Kunoichi after he brought down a sea of flames on her and her comrades. He wondered if she had family too. If people were thinking about her and wondering how she was doing right now. If they hoped she was all right. If they wished to see her again. Kagami averted his eyes from her. He couldn't bear this sight and these thoughts. He knew that these questions would plague him for the rest of his days. He would see her face on the ceiling he would stare at when he couldn't find rest or sleep at night. He tried to pull himself together, but his battered body protested.
"Argh!"
He squinted his eyes in pain. He tried again and again, but his body resisted him. Angrily, he smashed his fist against the floor, but then suddenly he relaxed again. He knew he should be grateful to still be able to breathe.
Then there was a rustling sound, and Kagami's right hand reflexively slipped into his black Ninja bag, which was attached to his right thigh, but he realized that the bag was empty. He also realized that in his current state he couldn't really defend himself against possible attackers anyway. Pressing his elbows against the ground, he straightened up to some extent to be able to take a look in the direction of the thicket from which the sounds were coming.
"Who's there?"
A sinister laugh announced her entrance even before her visage was revealed before Kagami's eyes.
"Hehehehe - that was quite a show. Thanks for the great entertainment. That was really fun - you were my favorite from the start, boy."
Out of the shadows of the forest came a woman. Her maroon-coloured hair was long. Her face didn't look familiar to him, but judging from her outward appearance, she didn't seem to belong to the enemy either. She walked straight towards him. When the woman reached him, she looked down at him. She smiled. Kagami's tired eyes slowly ran up her body until his eyes stopped on her face. She didn't fit in at all, but at the same time Kagami couldn't help but admit to himself that he found the sight quite appealing. The woman stroked a hand through her hair.
"Do you enjoy the sight, boy?"
"Who are-"
Kagami coughed. He didn't even have the strength to speak - fighting wasn't even an option. But he still had no clue who this woman was and what she wanted from him.
"Who I am, you ask? Hehehe - that's not important at all. What's important is what I'm going to do with you now, handsome."
The woman bent down to Kagami. He stared into her dark blue eyes, which had an almost hypnotic effect on him. The woman's face grew larger before his eyes. Just before the tips of their noses touched, the woman's eyes closed and her mouth opened. Resembling a mirror, Kagami did the same as the woman, expecting to feel her wet lips on his mouth.
"You can't wait to have some fun, can you?"
Kagami opened his eyes again, realizing that for a brief moment he had lost control of himself and his emotions.
What's wrong with me? And... what's wrong with this woman?
But the woman didn't give him another chance to regain his composure either. Before he knew it, her lips were pressed against his mouth.
Chu...lelo...kuchu...
He couldn't make sense of the situation he suddenly found himself in. His heart was pounding faster and faster in his chest and at the latest now he knew for sure that he had not died yet. He felt alive as never before - but he still couldn't think in her presence, especially while her tongue was running wild inside his mouth. Almost unconsciously, his arms slowly clasped her upper body. His hands rested on her exposed back, which was not covered by her top. Then the woman broke away from him again.
"Don't be so impetuous, boy. A woman wants to be conquered slowly."
Fu-...lelo lelo ... n...
Chilo Chilo ... Ha-...nchu...
As they kissed passionately, Kagami tentatively opened his eyes again. Her long eyelashes, her moist lips... her whole body attracted him. He didn't understand - he had never felt anything like this before, not even towards his wife, whom he loved with all his heart and respected very much. Was it her beguiling beauty? Or her warm breath on his skin? He could not explain his feelings. He wasn't even sure if they were real. Whatever it was, it wasn't love - it was naked desire.
Kuchu... relo...
Chilo Chilo ... Ha-...chu...
His blood boiled with lust. Suddenly, he felt something else in a different place: Kagami felt the woman stroking his cheek with her tongue. He widened his eyes and looked at her face in confusion.
"Oh my... the taste leaking from your Chakra network – who knew, so you're one of the people with the imposing fire-based Chakra."
This pause surprised him.
"What, yes? So? What about it?"
Kagami didn't know what he was saying. He could no longer form a clear thought, and although he was aware of it, it seemed to him that there was nothing he could do about it. He just wanted more - more from her.
"You'll make a nice addition to my collection."
Kagami's eyebrows drew together, but before his compromised mind was able to interpret the meaning behind her words, it was already too late.
"Reaper kiss!"
Chu...lelo...kuchu...
This kiss was different.
Fu-...lelo...
He felt something cold in his chest, slowly spreading.
Nchu... kuchu relo... chiu... n...relo...
Until the cold transformed into a void.
Kuchu... lelo...chu...
Then Kagami Uchiha felt nothing anymore.
It was never specified how Kagami Uchiha died at such a young age. Now we know it - and why Fuuka was in possession of a Jutsu from the infamous Uchiha-Clan.
