Chapter 9
Ok, I know I am updating three stories at once so bare with me. I am in school, raising a 3 year old and working full time, but I promise to keep up with them all. Anyhow, I hope you like this next chapter I was able to push out. For those waiting on Middle Earth one, it is next, followed by Second Chances. As always please review!
Remus was in his room after the meeting in Albus' office had ended. It had been decided he along with the senshi would help protect the students with the teachers from the new threat of Darien. He was stood looking out the room still dealing with news that the woman he loved was very much alive. Remus' feelings for her had never left even after she had supposedly died. He stood staring out the window as he thought about what he had learned about her and the secret she had kept from him all of these years. He was stunned to learn that she was Sailor Moon and a princess from the Moon. It made so much sense now as he thought back to his days at Hogwarts when they were younger. The times people pointed out the bruises she had on her, and she just blame it on being a klutz for falling. Or how she would sleep in at times, barely making it to class in time or on the weekend until noon at times. She would always say she was up to late doing homework, or reading a comic, but in reality she was really dealing with youma as Sailor Moon instead. Feeling confined in his room as he thought about everything, he decided he needed to leave for a bit to clear his mind. Remus quickly left his room walking down the empty halls. Within a few minutes he stood in front the dinning hall just looking into it. Replaying the events that had occurred only a few hours ago in there.
Meaning while Severus was walking down the hall making his usual nightly rounds to ensure students were where they were suppose to be and not out sneaking around at this late hour. As he continued his journey he noticed a figure standing in front of the dinning hall and noticed it was Remus just looking into it. As Severus continued to walk past his old class mate ignoring him as he continued his walk. Severus could tell he was mad at Serena from his outburst in Albus' office as well as the glares he had been giving the blonde woman the entire night. However, he knew that he couldn't just keep quiet and had to say something for Serena's sake. Severus stopped his walking, rolling his eyes at the idea of talking to Remus before turning around to gain the other man's attention.
"Why are you so mad at her?" He accused Remus coldly. The voice brought Remus out of his thoughts as he turned to face the person who was speaking to him. He was stunned to see Snape before him.
"Because Serena lied to me. She couldn't trust me enough with her secret and lied about everything and I am just forgive her for this." He explained angrily to him. Snape rolled his eyes at hearing Remus explanation. "Besides, why do you care what I think?" he asked Snape while glaring at him. s
"I don't care about you. I care about Serena. She has always been there for me when we were younger, and always will be. I am only looking out for her." Snape responded to him in a matter of fact tone.
"And you are not angry with her?" he asked simply.
"Bloody hell, you really are just that dense." Snape started causing Remus to glare at him some more. "It should be obvious from everything that was explained earlier tonight. Everything has always been about you and how much she loves you still to this day. Although I don't understand what she sees in you." Severus stated while mumbling the last part.
"What do you mean?" Remus replied confused as to what he trying to get at.
"Think about it about it. She lost everyone she ever cared for in a one night. Her adoptive family, James and Lily, Sirius in jail, and Peter as well as this Darien both betrayed her. She had no one left except for you and Harry to worry about here. Sirius was safe in jail, Harry, she could have taken and kept safe, but you, you were the biggest worry she had left. So to protect you, she did the only thing she thought was possible to keep you safe. Her love for you is what made her go along with this plan whether she wanted to or not. And if you don't forgive her then you truly don't love her nor do you deserve her." Snape finished staring at him intently. Remus stood there taking in everything that Snape had just said to him for a moment before he answered him.
"Your right." Was all Remus said quietly as he continued to think about what Snape said. Snape just nodded his head to acknowledge he heard Remus, before turning around to leave him alone to think of everything. Just as he was about to completely leave, Snape stop to make a final comment to him.
"I suggest you figure things out quickly Remus….you have two women wondering where your feelings lie for them." He finished before completely disappearing from view. Remus sighed heavily for he knew Snape was right again. Remus turned to look at the dinning hall remembering the battle from earlier that night. Serena and his eyes locked. He could see the shock in them at seeing his presence before her. His own feelings of love coming straight to the surface as if it had never disappeared as he looked into her eyes. Remus knew his past with Serena would eventually be revealed and that both would wonder what his feelings were for each, but he knew he didn't have to think hard. Yes, he loved Nymphadora, but it was not the same as his love for Serena was. He loved Serena from the moment they met. It was true love and that love had never disappeared, and it never will. Now, that she was back in his life, and alive, he knew this was his chance to be with her again, this time for good, should they survive the battle against Voldermort and Darien. As Remus stood there thinking, he pulled out a diamond ring that had a gold chain around it from his pocket, looking at it again for the millionth time as he thought about Serena. Wondering if what Snape said was true, does Serena truly still love him.
~One Week Later~
It had been a week since Darien's arrival at Hogwarts and the reveal of Serena's identity. The blonde princess was up early to get a head start for her day as she made her way down the hallway to the dinning hall. As she made her way down the hallway each passing day the stares from the students lessen she noticed. She knew it would take time, and that right now she was the biggest news at Hogwarts with the student gossip. As she continued her journey she ran into a few of the other senshi who briefed her on any unusual activities they found in the hallways from the night before. Each day the senshi took turns in doing rounds of the school day and night.
Serena sighed heavily as she saw the doors to the dinning hall. She hoped she had gotten up early enough to get breakfast before Remus arrived for the morning meal. She walked up to the doors, peering into the room as she quickly assessed to see who had arrived so far. She found Harry with his friends chatting while they ate their breakfast for the day. She was happy to see her godson in a good mood and seemingly alright since the events of Darien showing up. As she continued to scan the room with her blue eyes she looked over at the teachers table to see who had arrived so far. She noticed Remus sitting next to her empty chair with Hotaru on the side. Both seem to be eating their breakfast with no clue she was there. The blonde quickly spun on her heels as she dashed away from the dinning hall in hopes that no one saw her as she did.
Hotaru felt eyes on her as she looked up from her plate. As she look at the dinning hall door she saw Serena's back as she left the room. Hotaru sighed heavily as she shook her head at seeing her princess disappear again with no breakfast. She glanced over to Remus to see who was oblivious to the blondes retreat.
Hermione who was getting her drink, watched to see Serena look around the room before turning around promptly and disappearing from the dinning hall. Hermione sighed heavily at Serena's retreating form, wondering if she would ever join them in the hall again. Ginny happened to look over to see her friend with a troubled look on her features as she looked somewhere in the dinning hall.
"Hermione what's wrong?" The young girl asked her. The question prompted Harry and Ron's attention to their friend.
"It's been a week now and Serena hasn't eaten in the dinning hall once." Hermione stated to them.
"She is probably just busy with senshi stuff." Ron stated simply as he ate some more pancakes.
"I think she is avoiding Remus." Hermione said back seriously. Harry was surprised by the comment before confusion came on his face.
"But why and what makes you think that?" Harry questioned her, his breakfast completely ignored now.
"I have seen a few times her stand right at the doors to the dinning hall and look in here. She seems to look at teacher's table. Every time I look at the table I see Remus there. Plus, during the battle with Darien right before that magic ball hit her, she was distracted by something at the teacher's table that night. The only new person that was there was Remus."
"That still doesn't mean anything." Neville stated simply having been listening to the conversation the entire time. Hermione and Ginny looked at one another knowing they knew more than the others. Harry noticed the look between the two girls and could tell there was something more than they both knew, but were not sharing with the others about.
"What aren't you telling us Hermione?" Harry asked looking at the two. Hermione sighed before pulling something out of her book that sat on the table next to her. Harry could tell it appeared to be some sort of paper item in here hand.
"Here. When Ginny and I were in Serena's class room to give her our picks for the ball, she left the room long enough for me to come across this picture I found. This was before we learned of her being Sailor Moon." Hermione explained to Harry before giving him he picture she held. Harry took it curious as to what was on it. The look of surprise came on his features as he looked at the picture before he held in his fingers There was a young Serena being held by Remus as he kissed her on the lips and then they turned in surprise for having their picture taken unexpectedly. Harry looked up at Hermione with a stun look still etched on his face. Ron leaned in next to Harry to get a good look at the picture.
"Blimey! That's the professor with..." He started to say loudly, but was shushed by Hermione with a scolding tone and look to her face.
"We know you idiot." Ginny muttered quietly as well glaring at her brother for being so clueless. He looked sheepish at realizing how loud he was being.
"I think there was a lot more between them than any of us know." Hermione replied quietly. "I also have a feeling she has not said anything because of Darien. You heard her that night. Everything has been about keeping those she loves in Japan and England safe. That includes you, Harry, and Remus." Hermione pointed out to them all.
"You are right. This needs to stay between us. Not a word is to be said to any one else in the school." Harry muttered to each of friends who were in ear shot of the conversation with a serious look to his face. Each of his friends nodded their in understanding. As he put the picture in his book to hide from view from anyone else seeing it.
"I can't imagine cutting all ties like she did." Ginny muttered quietly looking at them with a sad look on her face as she thought about cutting ties with all she loved. "It must have been painful and hard to do. I don't think I could have done it." Ginny confessed to her friends. The friends sat quietly reflecting on Ginny's words wondering if they would have had the same strength as Serena did all of those years ago.
~ Noon Time~
Serena walked down the last aisle of desks grabbing her student's test as they left the room to head to lunch. As she grabbed the last parchment paper, she turned around to see Hotaru standing before her with the tests she had collected from the other desks.
"Thanks Hotaru." Serena replied gratefully as she took the rest of the tests to stack neatly on the pile she had in her arms. Once they were all together, she slipped them into her subspace pocked to be graded later.
"No problem. Ready for lunch?" Hotaru asked her friend. Serena paused to think of an excuse to not join her.
"You go on ahead. I'll meet you in a few minutes." Serena said simply as she tried to walk past her friend. Hotaru gave her an skeptical look.
"Sere, you need to eat." She said before grabbing her friend's elbow as she pushed her lightly into the hallway.
"Let's go, or would you prefer I'd tell Amara?" Hotaru threaten with a smirk on her lips. Serena lips formed a frown at the threat, but knew Hotaru would tell Amara, who would then hunt her down each meal to ensure she ate. Serena rolled her eyes out of exasperation knowing she was defeated.
"Yes, let's go." The two friends headed to dinning hall and which only taken a few minutes for them to arrive. As they made there way down the long aisle to the teacher table, Serena was relived to see that Remus had not arrived yet for lunch. Just then the young princess heard her name being called out stopping her and Hotaru. The two senshi turn around to look behind them to see Harry, Ron and Hermione coming up to them. Serena could visibly see they were upset about something.
"Hey guys, is everything ok?" Serena asked them in a soft concerning voice.
"We just heard the quidditch game between Hufflepuff and Slyerine has been canceled indefinitely and no body knows why. Do you know anything about it?" Harry asked his god mother standing before him. Serena and Hotaru eyes widen at this news.
"No, Harry I had not heard of this." Serena responded honestly to him.
"Who would the cancel this match?" Hoatru asked confusion obviously on her face.
"Professor Dumbledore has the only authority to do so. He most likely did it because of Darien." Serena replied to them in a matter of fact tone.
"Because of his ability to move around so easily in the school grounds." Hermione added to the conversation.
"Yes, it would be very hard to try and protect everyone during a match even with our powers and how many of us are here." Serena said simply in explanation. Just then they heard Serena's name being called out again. The small group turned to see Raye coming up to them with a grime look on her face.
"What's wrong Raye?" Serena asked knowing her friend all to well.
"You need to head to Dumbledore's office. The Prime Minister has is there now." She stated with an annoyed tone in her voice.
"So much for you getting a lunch." Hotaru replied sadly. Serena just ignored the comment to focused on the news of the Prime Minister arrival.
"Bloody hell, like we need him interfering here." She replied with a roll of her eyes along with frustration in her voice. The young princess excuses herself from the group before taking off out of the dinning hall. Serena made her way down the hall until she found a corner that was empty of students or teachers. She then teleported out of the hallway and just inside Dumbledore's office quietly. The two stood talking completely oblivious to her arrival as she walked up to them softly while listening in on the conversation.
"I am sorry Dumbledore, but the school is endangered as well as the students, we have no choice, but to shut down the school for the safety of the students." came the Prime Minister's authoritative voice.
"And who will protect each individual student in their own home. You?" Serena shot back in a demanding tone of voice. Th e Prime Minister jumped at the new unexpected voice in the room. The two men turned to see Serena standing not far from them with a serious look her face, her blue eyes blazing in determination as her hands were folded across her chest.
"This does not concern you my dear." He replied back to her as he waved her off to leave.
"Yes it does, since you are implying that I cannot protect the children of Hogwarts." Serena bit back bitterly at him.
"After the events of Darien arriving and his ability to move around the school so easily we have no choice, but to shut down the school. Parents are in fear. " Serena rolled her eyes at his comment in exasperation of the thinking.
"That is why I am here with the rest of my team to protect the students from him. Besides you think by shutting down the school you are protecting the children? Darien can still go after the children regardless of their location with his ability to move around so easily as you just stated. Therefore it changes nothing. Besides Voldermort still can't get into the school too. " Serena argued back smoothly to him.
"Serena is correct. We have put all safety measures in place to protect the students the best we can. Moving the children will not protect them in any way." Dumbledore added wisely to them with a smile on his lips.
"Between all the teachers, my senshi, and Remus this is the safest place for the students to be at the moment." Serena added on. Prime Minister looks at Serena in horror.
"You have Remus Lupen here! He is a werewolf!" He declared in horror at the news. Serena glared at the Prime Minister before her, anger now rising at the way he was labeling the man she loved just because of being a werewolf.
"How dare you treat him differently! Remus is no more a danger than you or I, Minister." she started with a growl, anger evident in her tone of voice. "Especially with my powers I can control his transformation with the moon." She defended never backing down her stance on the matter. The two just stood staring at one another for a few minutes, when finally, the Prime Minister straighten his back while looking at the blonde princess before him.
"Fine, the school will stay open, but if this goes bad, it is all on you." He conceded as he stared back looking at both Serena and Dumbledore, before he started to stalked out the room towards the fire place. As he walked passed the princess, Serena turned to respond to the Minister.
"And if this goes well you'll be all over it though." She said in a mocking tone. The comment made the Prime Minister turn to glare at her one more time before going through the fire place disappearing from view for good.
"Good riddance." She mumbled while rolling her eyes at the whole ordeal. Dumbledore stood looking at the young princess with an amuse look in his eyes and smile on his face.
"Well, now that is over with." He replied pleasantly.
"Yes. However, I wanted to ask you, Albus. Harry just informed me that quidditch is canceled indefinitely?" She asked him curiously.
"Ah, yes, I am afraid so with Darien I had no choice." He replied simply with a frown his face. Serena nodded her head in understanding.
"I agree. There is no way we can protect the students during a match well." Serena replied in agreement.
"I also canceled the next Hogsmead trip too." He warned her. Serena nodded her head.
"They will not be happy with that, but we have no choice." Serena replied sadly. "At least they will have the ball to go too." Serena finished looking to the brighter side of things as always. Dumbledore nodded his head in agreement.
~Later that Evening~
Serena sat in her room on the floor wearing light blue pajama pants with a white tank top. Her hair in its usual braid still. As she sat on the chair with a warm tea cup within arm reaches of her, she stared at an photo book in her lap. As the young princess stared at the pictures, memories of her past coming back to her of more fun, and peaceful times, there was a sudden knock on her door, bringing her back to reality.
'Wonder who that could be at my door.' she thought to herself, as she stood up to make her way over to her door. 'What if it is Remus...' she continued her thought. The thought of the man she loved on the side of the door stopped her from answering it. The idea of having to be confronted by him scared her. She loved him still, yes, and would do anything for him, but she did not want to ruin what ever happy life he had built for himself by being in his life once more if he did still have feelings for her.
"Serena, are you in there?" Came the sudden voice of Lita on the other side of the door. The voice brought the blonde back from her thoughts. She released a breath she did not know she was holding her breath until then. She went over to the door immediately and opened it so as not to keep Lita waiting any longer. Once the door was opened, it revealed Lita before her with Harry standing next to her.
"Harry, Lita, what brings you by?" She greeted them happily. The princess was thrilled to see her godson come visit her.
"I ran into Harry on my rounds tonight as he was hoping to speak to you. I thought I would bring him here."
"Of course. Harry please come in, and thank you Lita." Serena said warmly to her friend with a smile still on her lips. Lita just nodded her head back in return before departing. Serena shut the door before turning around to face her godson with a warm smile on her lips. She noticed he was wearing a hoody with jeans on.
"So what brings you by Harry?" She asked him curiously. She noticed his cheeks turn red a little as his hands went into the pockets of his hoody.
"I came to return this to you." He said sheepishly as he pulled out paper to hand to her. Serena took it inquisitively as to what it was. She turned it around to see the picture of her and Remus kissing in the photo. Serena turned her attention back to Harry with a small smile on her lips.
"It seems we both were thinking of the past." She replied as she pointed over to the chair where she had an photo album laying on it.
"Your not mad?" He asked the blonde princess before him earning a small laugh from her, which he enjoyed hearing.
"No, I am not mad. After all, I expected Hermione to do research on me at some point." She explain to him as she looked at the picture again. The sadness in her blue eyes returning as she thought of the past. The look in Serena's blue eyes did not go unnoticed of the young boy before her. He walked over to his godmother looking at the picture she was holding in her hands.
"You and Remus were together at one point?" He asked simply knowing that bringing up the question may hurt her feelings, but he had to know the answer after seeing the picture. Serena was not shocked to hear the question from him. She would be just as curious as Harry was, if she was in his shoes. Serena sighed heavily before looking at her godson with love in her eyes for him knowing he deserve the truth from her.
"Yes, we were. We were engaged, and I was at Raye's planning party for Remus to meet my family and friends in Japan on that terrible night. The only people who knew that we were engaged was Sirius, your parents, Peter and Raye." She took another deep breath before continuing, not sure how Harry would take this information before looking at him. "I am sorry for not telling you, but I am just not ready for people know about it, plus I don't know if Remus wants anyone to know either." She honestly finished saying to him.
"I understand." He started putting his arm on her shoulder in comfort. "So that day when you were talking to Hermione and me. The boy you were talking about was Remus?" he asked her curiously. Serena chuckled at remembering what happened.
"Yes, it was him." As she ushered Harry over to the chairs in the room for them to sit on. She waved her hand to make the book on her chair disappear into her subspace pocket."It was your father and Sirius that made him realize I had feelings for him too. We were at the ball when it happened. My date ditched me so I was outside with alone, when your mother came and found me. Remus happened to notice we were both missing. So your father was kind enough with Sirius' help to explain to him I had feelings for him. He eventually came to my rescue and the ball was good time for all of us." Serena told the story to Harry happily.
"So my parents were the reason for you two to get together?" Harry ask as he chuckled at the story. Serena nodded her head.
"Yes, basically it was. Your father only knew because I told your mother, while Sirius I am not sure how he figured it out, but he knew. It was just as much of an awkward time for us as it is for you kids. It is just all part of growing up I hate to say it." Serena wisely told him with a warm smile on her lips. The two sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes just enjoying the time together.
"Harry I must ask you," Serena started breaking the silence and gaining the young boy's attention again. This time the curious look in his green eyes as to what she would be asking him. "Are you mad at me for hiding the truth from you? If you are, I don't blame you." She finished asking him. Harry smile at his godmother as he could see the worry and fear in her blue eyes as she asked the question.
"No, I am not mad at you. You did what you thought was right at the time knowing what you knew. I can't imagine what you were feeling at the time, and I am grateful that you were at our home the night Voldermort showed up. You did what you could and that is all any of us can do in these times." Harry said wisely to her. Serena smile proudly at the young man Harry was turning out to be. Serena nodded her head in agreement.
"I am very lucky to have you be so understanding. I wish I could shield you from all the horrors that Voldermort has put you through, but I know I can't, but I will do everything in my power to protect you no matter what." She replied in a determined voice to him. "By the way," She continued on "I have something that belongs to you." She said trying to keep things light between them. Harry looked at her with a raised eyebrow wondering what she could have for him. With a wave of her hand a book appeared in her lap with the words written memories on it. She handed the book over to him.
"What is this?" He asked her.
"This is a photo album I was making for you when you were still a baby. I was going to give it to you at your next birthday of course, but well..." She drifted the last part for him to figure out why he never go it the book until now.
"Thank you." He replied gratefully to her as stared at the cover of the book. Serena pulled her chair closer to Harry's with an eager smile on her lips.
"Go ahead and open it. I hope you like it." Harry did as he was told and open the book to the very first page. As he came to the first picture, Serena began to explain how she organized the pictures in the book for him to view. The two sat together going through the book the next few hours as Serena would explain how some pictures came about, or the back story to something that happened that day in a picture. The two laughed and cried together at the many memories that Serena was able to share with Harry about his parents and Sirius. As Harry turned the next page in the book, he began to yawn, which Serena noticed. The blonde princess looked over at the clock to see it read midnight.
"No wonder you are yawning. It's midnight. We better get you back up to your room." Serena suggested as she got up from her seat. Harry closed the book that was in his lap before getting up himself. "I'll walk you back to your dorm." She replied as she open the door for them to go through.
Serena escorted Harry safely back to his dorm door. The two said good night before he walked back inside. Once he was inside the princess turned around to walking merrily back to her room. As she was walking back to her room, the blonde princess turned the corner, and unexpectedly ran right into the someone. She looked up to see a pair of familiar gray eyes looking back down at her just as surprised to see her.
"Remus." She breath quietly in surprise.
