Chapter 3: Arrival

The light that represents the civilisation of Earth began vanishing, and that could only mean disaster for all mankind.

That was when Naruto arrived at the command room, having known what happened due to the information fed to him by his guest and Chaldea's Chaplain.

"… gather all Master candidates right now!" He ordered sternly, and the people in charge bowed and went away immediately, then he turned to the others before him.

"I order that the Rayshift experiment be move into practical phase, the future of this world depends on it, onwards!" He shouted before he watched where the coordinates pointed on the map.

"Fuyuki… what is with this town and Holy Grail Wars?"

Story Start.

Olga stood in the command room silently as Naruto barked orders to the people that manned the room; behind them, Lev Lainur Flauros stood with a hidden smirk hidden beneath his face. Of course, the Director smelled the filth of treachery already, and with the Chaplain's information, he had a guide to the path of destruction forward, but for now, the Masters take precedence.

"Da Vinci-chan!" called Naruto through the intercom, "prepare the Summoning chamber! I have an old friend that I hope to summon before Rayshifting… also, Father Aurelius, wherever you are, commence Operation: Deus Vult."

Olga and everyone in the command room watched in silence as the Director walked out of the room at a brisk pace, while Lev slightly opened his eyes with contempt, which of course, was noticed by no one.

The moment Da Vinci heard her master's orders, she went to work, and Ophelia, who still accompanied her at that moment, was called to join her fellow candidates, much to her chagrin.

"And now, the end is near, and so I face the final curtain," the Director's voice echoed in the halls of Chaldea as he strode forward to the summoning chamber, which was left nearly abandoned for years now since Da Vinci herself was summoned.

"My friend, I'll say it clear, I'll state my case, of which I'm certain, I've lived a life that's full, I travelled each and every highway, and more, much more than this, I did it my way…" he continued as he walked past Father Aurelius who shook his head and promptly followed him.

Da Vinci heard her master's singing voice, and she subsequently deadpanned. Before long, her preparations for the chamber for a summoning attempt will be tested with what Saint Quartz they have.

"He's not wrong; he's doing things his way around here," she thought to herself as she cleared the chamber of clutter and drew the summoning lines as instructed to her some time ago for this moment.

The Father who now accompanied the Director made sure that the command room could hear their director sing, a little blackmail material for later if ever needed. Hence, Naruto continued singing, not knowing that everyone in the command room could hear him the entire time.

It was also to put them at ease from the chaos earlier, except Lev Lainur, who finally understood then that the Director was aware of what happened. The song's first words clarified one thing: the Director knew the World was in danger.

"Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention. I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption. I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway, and more, much more than this, I did it my way," he turned to Father Aurelius as he sang, and he nodded in agreement, the Director did things as the song described.

But of course, it had to be cut short, for Da Vinci was already staring at him like he was an idiot.

"Are you done, dear Master?"

"Yeah, let's get this stuff going, Da Vinci-chan!" Naruto exclaimed, which sent Da Vinci into speculation, and while she would usually love the attention given to her by her master, something is different with this moment.

"… hmm, Master, you're exuberant after the chaos in the command room," she observed while the Vice-Director snorted in amusement.

"Father, the Catalyst, hold it opposite of the circle; Da Vinci, commence communication with the command room," he replied, and Da Vinci bowed slightly and did what she was told.

-Chaldea's Command Room: Same time-

"Connection Successful: Director Uzumaki in the Summoning Chamber. Summoning to proceed in T-minus 10… 9…"

Multiple notifications appeared inside the screens of the staff. Then it was changed into the summoning declaration; thus, they did their jobs at this moment.

Meanwhile, Olga watched the scene before her with jealousy, as she failed to be a master candidate, while her old mentor is now a master.

When the timer reached zero, they heard the Director's voice.

Olga looked up and noticed that it was not the same chant in the FATE system, and little did she know, Naruto had a catalyst with him, used his system, and built it atop Chaldea's still volatile system.

"Seventh Heaven clad by the Holy Trinity and the great words of the Stargazers, cast aside your shackles and come forth. Pass on your judgment, and punish my enemies…."

"Guardian of the Scales!"

Then a bright light covered their sight.

Kirschtaria Wodime felt an influx of great power from the summoning chamber, and he knew the Director was there, alongside the Vice-Director and the Chief Engineer. He looked at his fellow teammates, and they all felt it as well, most noticeably Hinako Akuta and Daybit Sem Void, who showed a rare reaction from his usually unperturbed expression.

"The Director summoned a servant, because Chaldea's system summoned Lady Da Vinci, and not by him, despite him being her master," voiced Ophelia, and the rest of Team A turned towards her as she continued.

"He has a catalyst for that summoning."

"Hooo, seems like the Director tells you secrets, eh Ophelia?" Peperoncino teased, making the Norsewoman blush as the attention came for her.

"It's not like that, Pepe!"

However, she was saved as they heard voices from the corridor, and then Naruto appeared with Da Vinci, Father Aurelius, and someone else, someone with a genuine aura of a king and a knight.

"My dear Arturia, here are Chaldea's top masters, other than me, of course," stated Naruto as they arrived at the waiting room of Team A.

"Pleased to meet you," said the knight who gave a slight bow, "I am Arturia Pendragon, this idiot's servant."

Silence reigned in the room for a brief moment, and the British Kirshtaria Wodime knew precisely who that was and was truly surprised inside.

"King Arthur, a pleasure," greeted Wodime with a bow.

"Right, now then, let's go on our merry way!"

Everyone was surprised when the Director suddenly carried Arturia in his arms and ran away, the said servant unreactive.

"…"

"They knew one another during the Director's time in Camelot back in the 5th century AD; they're very close," quipped the Chaplain, and that sent more questions to the Team A members.

But before they could even ask a single question, Father Aurelius walked away with Da Vinci to the place where Naruto ran towards – the Command Room, and both were exasperated.

"Everyone! Halt!"

Naruto bolted into the command room, Arturia still in his arms, but now he raised her like a child, and her bearings still unrecovered.

"Look at her! This is King Arthur, isn't she so cute?"

Silence reigned in the command room, then audible gasps came from the staff as he rubbed his face on her cheeks, and she hung there, baffled, at least for the next few seconds.

Nants ingonyama bagithi baba... Sithi uhm ingonyama.

"..."

They all heard that, but only Naruto knew where it came from, and also, that was what got Arturia out of her stupor, because she promptly gave him a headbutt, followed by an elbow to his gut, which sent him straight to the floor.

"… ugh, miss you too."

"Should have gone for the crown jewels, Your Majesty," quipped Father Aurelius as he entered the Command Room with Da Vinci, who shook her head in exasperation and mild amusement.

Arturia turned to the Chaplain and shook her head, "No, Scáthach would be unhappy with me, H-, ahem, Father."

"... Zeltrech! The Circle of Life, seriously?"

"It was the perfect moment, Lord Uzumaki, I'm quite sure the old man Aurelius would agree."

Afterwards, the Director returned to normal and ordered the preparations for the Rayshift, but now accompanied by his old friend and newest servant, much to Olga's secret chagrin, but then, what could she do, her caretaker's servant is the King Arthur of legend after all.

Jealousy crept closer inside her heart, but she had to suppress it for they have far more difficult situations to face at the moment, yet she couldn't stop thinking where she failed, why was she not chosen to be a master, for all her aptitude in magecraft, she still fell short here.

"Pater Sancte, sic transit gloria mundi…" she heard Naruto mutter as he watched the live reports before him, while Arturia glanced towards the Chaplain who let out a sigh and left the room, with a task at hand and a destination in mind.

Romani visited Mash for her weekly examination while the chaos in the command room went on. He knew that being a designer baby, Mash wouldn't last a whole human lifetime, but what bothered Romani was the Director's calm acceptance.

"Don't worry about it, she knows, and the future is clear to me; she will prosper." The Doctor remembered the Director's reply, and without clairvoyance, he had no idea what the hell the Director referred to.

"Doctor?" Mash called out to him, and he gathered his thoughts as he gave an apologetic smile.

"Sorry, Mash, just thinking about something, but no worries, your vitals are good."

Romani then cleared his throat before he continued, "But as the Director said, keep the regimen he made for you. It's conducive to keep your body focused, especially when the Rayshifting commences."

"For all the splendour of Chaldea, inhumane projects for the preservation of the human order is rather ironic," said the Chaplain as he entered the infirmary where Romani and Mash are.

"Father Aurelius," greeted the two while he waved them off.

The old priest took a deep breath as he scratched his bearded chin, then looked to Mash, "Mashmallow, give me your right hand; I have something to do, Director's orders."

"You will be fighting later, despite what Team A thinks, and the Director knows that," he continued while Romani nodded, having been notified years ago of the said fact.

Mash quietly held her right hand out towards the priest, and he whispered words no one understood, except for the last part, which was a blessing.

"… Benedicat vos omnipotens Deus, Pater, et Filius, et Spiritus Sanctus. Amen," finished the Vice-Director with a solemn tone, which Romani noticed, and soon, a marking appeared upon Mash' right hand and vanished almost quickly.

"It's a protection against harm, which would prove very useful in your destinations later, as well as a boost in energy if needed," explained to the priest while Mash nodded in thanks.

Romani added that to his notes for later review, then he turned to the priest, "Why did the Director order this?"

"We must remember that all the glory of the world passes quickly, and all of us must be ready for it."

-Chaldea's Simulator: One Day Later - 25th June AD 2017-

"Why am I fighting Mordred? Master!?" Arturia shouted as she dodged a strike from the simulator version of Mordred.

But that was no help to her at all, and all she heard back was laughter from a distance.

"Master!"

The King of Knights blocked a forward strike from the simulated Mordred, then returned the blow with equal strength, which sent the red armoured knight back.

"Alright, that's done, no need for your Noble Phantasm here," said Naruto as he appeared next to her, which is perhaps what Arturia wanted because she decked him and sent him away.

Then, she stabbed her sword on the ground and knelt to pray.

"God in Heaven, my master, is a bastard, worse than Merlin yet equally repugnant, save me from him and all the iniquities that he may bring to myself, Thy servant. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, World without end. Amen."

Naruto heard it, and he just gave a deadpan without saying anything until he dusted off his clothes and returned to Arturia, then grabbed her shoulders and stared straight into her eyes, "I love you too."

"…" Arturia clenched her left fist and decked him to the ground once more.

"Why?" muttered Naruto as he lay on the ground, staring at the simulated sky above them.

"Passing my judgment, master, or did you forget the summoning chant that you used?" Arturia replied with a hint of amusement in her voice.

"Kid, you walked into that one."

"Damn you, Kurama, now you chose to wake up?"

"… and back to sleep, I go. Seeing your ass kicked do make for exquisite dreams."

-The Next Day: 26th June AD 2017-

Activating Heroic Spirit Summoning System FATE.

We hope you have a good experience as a Master for these 180 seconds.

It felt like an eternity, this snowfall, as Mash watched from a windowsill in one of Chaldea's corridors, awaiting a glimmer of that sunshine that never came, and today was the same, no glimpse of the blue sky, only the grey clouds and roaring winds.

"Mash?" a medical staff approached her as she sat with Fou.

"Professor Lev is looking for you," said the staff, and Mash nodded.

"There were no problems with your morning physical… but this will be a gruelling mission as Director Uzumaki already noted," said the staff, to which Mash agreed.

"If you feel anything wrong with you, make sure to report it at once, preferably to the Vice-Director and Doctor Roman."

Mash nodded while Fou bolted out of the conversation, towards somewhere down the corridor they were in, and there, both stumbled upon an unconscious young man of the same age as her, dressed in the standard Chaldea Mystic Code.

Fou tapped the young man's face and licked it.

"Fou? Kyuu… kyuu?" was the sound that came from the strange animal, then a glint appeared on Fou's eyes, and its claws were out.

"Fou! Fou… Fou!" and slapped the young man, then licked his cheek again.

"… mhh, feels like something just licked my cheek…"

Then his eyes opened to Mash peering down on him, who then spoke to him, "… uh, since it's neither morning nor night, please wake up, Senpai."

The young man jolted backwards and started at Mash.

"Eh? Who are you?"

"Hmm, let's see… that's a hard question to answer suddenly. Maybe I'm not important enough for you to know my name."

"Huh?" the young man stared blankly towards Mash.

"I mean, I do have a name. I have a proper name," she immediately said, then looked away as she continued.

"But I never really had the chance to use it… I'm afraid I don't leave a good first impression… which means I don't get to make an impressive self-introduction," she went on to say, which just confused the young man before her, so she cleared her throat and led him to a bench, near a vending machine.

"…" Mash observed quietly as the young man drank water, which perhaps calmed him down.

"I remember undergoing some sort of simulation when I first arrived," said the young man, which Mash understood immediately.

"The Spiritron Dive must have tired you out. It can place quite a burden on your brain when you aren't used to it," explained Mash while the young man held his head as he flinched.

"My head is still pounding," he replied.

"You were unconscious on the floor when Fou found you. That's all I know."

The latest candidate blinked in confusion, "Fou?"

And speaking of the devil, the animal ran towards Mash and jumped straight to her face as it climbed up to her hair, then sat on her shoulders.

"uh…" Mash groaned as she massaged her nose where Fou landed.

"Are you alright?"

"Yes. This squirrel-like beast is Fou. It has the privilege to roam freely around Chaldea," she explained as she petted Fou before the said beast jumped towards the young man and used him as a platform to jump down and run away.

"As you can see, it goes where it pleases. Fou rarely approaches anyone except me, the Director, and the Vice-Director. Hence, it seems it's taken a liking to you, Senpai," she continued her explanation while the young man nodded in understanding.

"Huh."

"Congratulations, you've just become Fou's fourth attendant in Chaldea," she said with a smile while the young man scratched the back of his head.

"By the way, are you one of the potential Master candidates they gathered for the first mission?" She asked, and the young man nodded.

"They said I was qualified to form a contract with a Servant, so somebody from here invited me… by the way, what's Rayshifting?" Mash blinked owlishly before she composed herself.

"Don't tell me; you came here without knowing what you're here to do?" The young man immediately gained an embarrassed look on his face, to which Mash immediately explained everything she could say about it, and the young man was surprised at being asked to participate in such a grand scheme.

Afterwards, the young man realised one thing, then offered his hand to Mash, "Sorry, I should have said before."

"I'm Ritsuka Fujimaru, I apologise for not making a more impressive self-introduction, but it's nice to meet you."

Mash hesitated initially, but she accepted the handshake, not knowing it was the beginning of a long journey ahead.

A long and beautiful but arduous journey across time.

A/N: Well, as you can see, the main game story is about to start, and it's going to have twists and other stuff. This is the only chapter that will see the Director get decked most of the time, I had to establish Arturia and her relationship with him.
