Chung - Fatal Phantom

Huh, you thought I'd be creative enough to get an awesome and interesting place? No, not at all!

Els and Eve bought a cheap house on the corner of Velder, probably one of the most dangerous places in Elrios. Rumors said zombies were walking around, so nobody wanted to live there. But seriously, they're just zombies. They're slow. Just run away.

The couple were chilling in the house before sleeping. Els was cleaning his weapon while Eve was working on her Nasod-technology smartphone. Until someone banged their door.

"Help me! Someone! Waaaaah!"

Els gripped his sword and rushed outside. There was a blonde kid with blue eyes. Els let him in and locked the door. He looked at the kid closely; he had dark tips on some part of his hair and paw pupils. "It's alright. The zombies are slow, just run for it," Els said with a smile and patted the kid's head.

"But the floating red girl is fast," the kid sobbed and pointed at the corner of the living room. "She looks like her."

Els faced the corner he was pointing at, only to find nothing but an empty space. Elesis used to say the same kind of stuff, though. It's just the ghosts messing with kids like usual–except Elesis was seeing an angel and the kid was seeing an actual ghost. "I-I see…" Els forced himself to smile.

Eve walked toward them. She noticed a text on the back of the boy's shirt.

I'm probably lost again

Please call my sister

+69 420 769 322

"Uh… I'll call someone," Eve said as she controlled her drone to dial the number.

"Hello, Rose here. Who is this?"

"Sis?" The boy walked toward the drone with sparkly eyes. He was amazed with the technology he was seeing. "Sis is a robot now?"

"Oh–Ah… Chung? Thank you for keeping him safe! I'll pick him up. Can you drop him somewhere, um…"

Eve stared at the boy again. She didn't trust strangers, but upon analyzing her data, she had a feeling she could trust them. "Just call me Eve."

"We can bring him to Velder Plaza," Els suggested the common place to meet where everyone knew where it was.

"Yeah, sure–Huh?! I'm at Hamel, though! I can't get there, I… The ships aren't operating at night."

"Well…" Eve looked at the kid again, who was going to cry at any moment. "We can let him stay for the night. Is that fine with you, Miss Rose?"

"Yes, that's totally fine! Chung, be a good kid, okay? I'll pick you up tomorrow. Thanks a lot, Miss Eve!"

The call ended. Els and Eve introduced themselves to the kid. It was bad to see a kid with no sense of danger towards strangers, but it was good in this case. "My name is Chung–" the kid stopped talking when Eve's drones were floating. He grabbed one of the drones and stared at it. The drones responded by floating around and playing with him.

"Does he look familiar to you?" Els asked, still staring at the kid. He couldn't recall the person, but he was sure he met someone that looked like the kid.

Eve turned silent and recalled her memory at the school. Despite all her time with Els, she met a lot of people. They weren't as memorable as El or Lu (or everyone else that we knew), but there was certainly someone that barely went out of the room. She didn't remember talking to him either, but based on her memory, he did look like the kid. "Lacher?"

Els blinked his eyes several times. It would be easier if he could ask El, but… why don't just ask the kid? "Hey Chung, do you have a big brother?"

"No."

"N-No, no. I swear they look alike. This isn't something like you and Elsa, right?" Eve asked with a forced smile.

In a short time, Chung fell asleep on the sofa with Eve's drones protecting him. The couple went into the bedroom–and no, no lewd things. Els was merely going to sleep while Eve was working on her project.

The next morning, Els woke up early, even though he tried to oversleep. He walked out of the bedroom, but Chung was nowhere to be seen. The drones were deactivated and the window was opened. "Um… Eve? He ran away."

Eve approached Els and looked around the living room. They looked out the window to find visible small footsteps. She activated her drones and called the sister again. "Miss Rose? Um… Chung ran away."

"Ah, my god… I swear he needs a new hobby. Thank you for telling me!"

The train was always crowded in the morning. Aisha and Noah were stuck in a position where Aisha looked like she was going to assault an underaged kid. "Find a better analogy!" Of course, Aisha yelled at the author for this narration.

"But there's always a weird adult. Thank you for coming with me today," Noah said with a smile. He felt safe to go to work for once because Aisha's badge was intimidating for some reason.

"No need to thank me. I have nothing to do anyway," Aisha replied, thinking about what to do when Noah went to work. She could always grab a random mission in the town's army. "What kind of work are you doing?"

"Doing your mom," Noah answered playfully. After several of your mom jokes, she found out the kid was a graphic designer in a small company.

The train stopped at Lanox. They walked out and felt the really hot weather. Aisha waved her hands to cool herself as she summoned a bunch of floating ices. Somehow the ice didn't melt.

They finally arrived at a small house. "This is my workplace. See you later!" Noah smiled and waved his hands before he went inside. What kind of workplace that looked like a house? Aisha was expecting a huge building too. But anyway…

"Let's have lunch together! I'll be around here!" Aisha shouted at her roommate.

Clink… Clink…

Aisha turned around and found a blonde kid tapping his nails on her ices. The kid finally noticed she was looking at him, but he didn't run away. "I like your ice!"

"Oh… Thanks," Aisha smiled awkwardly and summoned more ice for the kid to play with. She noticed the text behind the kid's shirt. "Come with me for a bit," Aisha said as she grabbed the kid's hand and walked around to find a telephone booth. Now she actually looked like a kid predator. But she didn't mind the narration this time; she kept walking until she found a telephone booth. She inserted a coin and called the number.

"Hello, Rose here. How can I help you?"

"Huh, Rose?! That Rose from yesterday?" Aisha asked in surprise and looked at the kid. Come to think of it, why did he look like Lacher? "Um… I think I found the little brother you were talking about yesterday."

"Oh, Aisha! Thank you for calling me. Where are you guys right now?"

"Well… Lanox. Do you always let him run away?" Aisha asked with a confused look. The kid didn't reach Elesis' age yet. Why was he running around freely and actually being safe?

"I don't. I'm coming right now. Can you watch over him for me? I'm sure he's not around you anymore. See you soon!"

The call ended and just like Rose said, Chung wasn't around her anymore. He already approached a weird looking huge rock. There was a crack on it, revealing lava. And he was currently trying to grab it. "W-Wait! That's dangerous!" Aisha shouted in panic. She blinked to his spot and pulled him away from the rock. She grabbed one of her ice and put it on the lava. The ice slowly melted into water. "See? It's dangerous."

But Chung was still trying to put his hand on it. "But there's a little guy calling for help."

"No, no! Play with this instead," Aisha quickly summoned a small statue resembling Chung. She'll summon anything until he gets distracted from the rock.

After an hour, Rose finally arrived to pick up her little brother. "Chung! Geez, you're being bad," Rose sighed and picked up Chung's body with her hands. She carried him with one arm and made him face Aisha. "Apologize to Aisha."

Chung stared at Rose for a while without saying anything. He finally faced Aisha, who got a bit tired from making sure he was safe. "I'm sorry…"

"It's alright. Glad you guys are reunited again," Aisha nodded with a smile. She wasn't sure what was happening, though.

"He was in Velder last night. Who knows how he got there and finally here," Rose sighed heavily and narrowed her eyes at Chung. "Come on, let's go home–"

"Do I have a big brother?" Chung asked and tilted his head.

"Ahaha… Yes, you do. I'm sure you forgot about him," Rose answered with a forced smile.

"Huh? How long has it been since Lacher went to school?" Aisha asked with a confused look.

Rose closed her eyes and tried to count, but she didn't remember quite well. "I'm not sure, but Chung was still very little. His memory is probably hazy."

"The scary girl is back!" Chung shouted and buried his face on Rose's shoulder.

"Hm? Alright where is she?" Rose turned her body to the direction Chung was seeing. It was nothing but an empty space. "GO AWAY! DON'T GET NEAR HIM EVER AGAIN! GO!"

Aisha was speechless about this. She was surprised, but she was confused at the same time. The awkward atmosphere filled the place, only the voice of crying Chung while Rose was patting his back. So she finally uttered a question. "Shouldn't you call an exorcist or something?"

"Yeah, that's probably the best thing to do, but our family just screams at them," Rose answered with a smile.

But hey, there's an angel in the story now. "What if… We try asking an angel to help us?" Aisha suggested. They could go back to school, but Elesis might be busy. There should be another way to call Ain. "Hm… Maybe Els? If only I can find them…" she muttered to herself.

Chung heard what Aisha was muttering about. He wiped his tears and pointed to his left. "Els lives there."

"Oh, you mean Miss Eve?" Rose asked Chung. "We'll get going then. Thank you, Aisha! Come on, what do you say after she helps you?"

Chung stared at Aisha for a while. They never introduced themselves to each other. Did he even know if Aisha was a name? "Thank you, Time Wizard!"

"Time Wizard?!" Aisha repeated, but both of them already walked away. She sighed heavily and stared at the author. "Why are you surrounding me with kids anyway?"

Ah, hm… Personal preferences.

Els and Eve were getting ready to go on another mission. It's their only way to get money for now. It was a lot of money too, so why not? Ultimate profits!

Knock, knock!

Eve prepared her devices and opened the door, in case of an incoming attack. But she saw a familiar kid and a blonde woman. "You must be Miss Rose, then?" she asked with a smile and let them come inside.

"Thank you for taking care of him last night!" Rose bowed down to show her gratitude. The couple looked like they were in a hurry, so she went to the point. "A friend of yours named Aisha said you might be able to call an angel."

Eve said nothing and faced Els, who was stunned after hearing the words. Did it look like he's religious enough to call an angel out of nowhere? "Um… Ain? Can you help us a bit?" Els asked, feeling weird for talking to something that wasn't there.

But Ain did appear in the middle of the group. "Help? What do you need?" He asked as he looked at his surroundings. His eyes stopped at the kid, who was looking at something else behind him.

It was a dark floating ghost with chains and black smoke. Normal people couldn't see it. For Chung, who was a kid with a sixth sense, it was really clear. In fact, it was the same thing that made him run away from the house. Ain, still smiling, choked the neck of the ghost with his left hand without looking at it. The ghost screamed in pain and eventually disappeared into thin air. "You can see it, can't you, little kid?"

"...How many ghosts live here then?" Els asked in curiosity. He didn't sense any of them, but they didn't bother him in any way. They can just ignore each other and continue living.

"You picked this house knowing what's happening around here. Answer it yourself," Ain answered with a chuckle. He finally looked at the siblings and shrugged. "Well, I'm an angel, not some kind of witch doctor to take off his sixth sense. What do you want me to do?"

"Hm… Bless our house!" Rose smiled and hugged Chung tightly in her arms. She felt like he was trying to run away again.

Ain nodded in agreement. Of course, he asked for a payment. "I want a board game for kids."

Ah, yes, of course. He wanted to play something with Elesis because Els and Eve left them. What a heartless couple. "I thought we're done about that," Els commented at the narration.

Slap!

Rose suddenly slapped Chung's hand lightly. "No, no. Don't grab that," she said with a smile.

Next to her was a tall creature made of arms. It didn't have any eyes, but it was definitely trying to take Chung with it. Ain walked toward the creature, creating a teal colored sword in his hand and slicing it in half easily. "Why don't we start with this house?" Ain suggested and turned to his angelic form.

"Meanie," Chung commented without expression, still looking at the direction of the deleted tall creature. He was still unable to tell apart between ghosts and living beings. What Ain did was nothing but a murder in his eyes.

"No, I'm not. They're trying to trick you," Ain smiled and snapped his finger. Colorful crystals appeared around him–and actually distracting Chung from the ghosts in the house.

"Oh, oh! We still matter!" El shouted with excitement. He even woke up his roommate for it. But of course, Lacher didn't care. "Help me, man. Add could find another us from a different timeline but Rena stopped him! She's no fun."

"Find another Add and stop bothering me. I'm sure he exists somewhere," Lacher replied in an annoyed tone and faced the wall to go back to sleep.

"Huh? Another Add?" El repeated while he thought about what Lacher said. If Add could time travel, then his other self should be able to time travel too. Why didn't he think of that?

He looked at his roommate closely like a creep. There should be a reason why Lacher did nothing all day and just sleep or play games when he had too much energy. He's smart, though, so what if… El was getting wrong information all along and he just played along with it? "I'm starting to think Chung isn't your real name either," El said with a pout.

But Lacher said nothing. El still needed to bother him, so he forced his roommate to be awake. He got nobody to discuss stuff. Aisha was probably the only person with reasonable thoughts in a discussion. Ara was too much of a meme and Add didn't even know what curry was. Raven was busy finding food in the garbage can before the stray cats ate it first. Rena was… He wouldn't discuss anything with Rena if possible. The duo demons were only there to prank people and Elesis wouldn't be helpful.

"Tell me something so the school student characters could be useful," El stared at Lacher and folded his arms. He needed to find something that might interest Lacher, but he never got anything. "Is there something wrong with this school?"

There was clearly something going on in the school. So many questions needed to be asked, but knowing how weird this story was, the answers would be some memes and bullsh-ts. Why would Lacher answer this now? A nod should be enough.

"How do you survive if you're in danger? You don't have stamina for anything!" El complained about Lacher's health. For some reason, the lazy guy wasn't even fat. Where did all the food go?

"I don't," Lacher answered shortly, which meant he'd just die if something happened. What a way to give up on life so quickly.

"Ain! Help me with stuff here!" El pouted and threw random trash to the floor.

The angel appeared from thin air, staring at both of them with a smile. Lacher actually caught his attention, especially after interacting with Rose and Chung to bless their house. He said nothing about it, though. "What is it, El?"

"Do you sense anything weird in this school? They're probably harmless," El asked in curiosity.

"Yes, I do. We can just bring a kid here and he'll run away," Ain answered with a smile and glanced at Lacher. Unexpectedly, Lacher darted his eyes at the angel. "A kid that is very sensitive to ghosts to the point they can't differentiate between real beings and spirits."

"Why specifically a kid? But I got you," El nodded his head. It seemed like a good idea. Who cares about random kids getting traumatized?

"Get a hobby," Lacher commented before going back to sleep. El found this a bit suspicious, since it's probably one of countless times that Lacher commented on something that he said.

"Say something useful then! Why does everything need to be done outside? We can have a story in the school too," El sighed and looked out the window. There was nothing but an empty space… by look. He prepared a lot of traps for the entire school, but it's never enough to satisfy his happiness. "Give me a hint. Anything."

"Lu is a demon," Lacher gave a hint before going back to sleep.

"That's a fact! Not a hint–" El was about to whine, but he stopped as he thought of something. Demons were feared in this world, so how come nobody feared Lu when she entered the school? Did the principal think she's harmless? They just accepted her because the school welcomed her presence. He faced the angel, who was leaning his back against the wall. "This isn't something that I can find out. Seriously, what are you seeing?"

"Nothing, nothing~!" Ain lied with a smile and left.
