Lunatic

Kenzie's POV

I drove fast finally pulling up outside the motel and jumped out pulling the seat forward for Lia to climb out while I raced around to the passenger side and opened up the door leaning in and cupped Derek's cheek.

"Derek…hey" I called praying that he'd open his eyes. "Derek can you open your eyes for me…squeeze my hand" I put my hand in his but he was out cold still so I pulled him out wrapping his arm around my shoulder and held him up against my side as I walked us inside seeing Lia waiting near the door looking worriedly at Derek as I opened the door and we headed inside. "Lia I want you to go to your room-"

"But mommy-"

"Baby please, your Dad wouldn't want you to see him like this" she huffed and stomped off to her room closing the door as I gently lowered Derek down on our bed on his stomach so that I wasn't inflicting any further pain on his back since it seemed like that was where the injury was.

After making sure Derek was settled I ran into the bathroom and ran a wash cloth underneath some warm water before grabbing a bowl and filled it before I went back out placing the bowl of water and wash cloth onto the side table before I got to work stripping Derek out of his clothes as gently as I could leaving him just in his jeans laying on the bed and I glared at the five claw marks that tore through Derek's back that could only come from one thing…the Alpha.

I began to clean out the wound seeing as it was nearly covered in the black goop that came out when our bodies were trying to heal themselves and once I was done with that I could do nothing but sit back and anxiously listen to his breathing and his heartbeat to ensure they were still there.

"Mommy?" I looked up quickly wiping the tears away seeing Lia poking her head out of her room.

"Hey" I said trying to keep my voice even so as not to scare her.

"Is daddy okay now?" she asked and I frowned gesturing her towards me, I'd covered Derek over with a blanket and he was no longer covered in blood so I pulled her to sit in my lap.

"He will be, he just needs rest" I told her cradling her against me as I returned my eyes to Derek watching his back rise and fall with each deep breath.

"Why is daddy hurt?" Lia whispered against my neck and I hesitated for a second as I tried to come up with a plausible way to explain Derek's condition to her but I realized I couldn't lie to her anymore.

"There's a bad person out there Lia-"

"The same person who hurt Aunty Laura?" she asked cutting me off.

"Yeah baby girl, your Dad's been looking for them and last night I think he found who it was" I explained carefully trying my best to word it in ways she'd understand.

"Is daddy gonna be okay?" she asked and I turned my attention back towards Derek when she did.

"I think so, he's got a strong heartbeat and if there's one thing I know about your Dad it's that he's stubborn and he'll always come back to us, there's never a doubt in my mind that your Dad would ever give up without a fight okay" I told her and she nodded but didn't seem as satisfied. "You listen…tell me what you hear?" I told her and watched her face suddenly take on a very concentrated look as she focused on Derek.

"His heartbeat" she smiled and I smiled back.

"Good girl" I praised pulling her closer.

The next few days were touch and go as I took care of Lia reassuring her that Derek was still okay despite not having woken up yet and I continued to clean out the wound on his back as it healed to keep infection away and it was almost fully healed but all while doing this meant I've barely slept meaning I was exhausted but I couldn't rest not until I knew my mate was okay and that wasn't going to happen until he's awake.

"Come on Lia, I have to get you to school" I told her as I placed a bowl of cereal in front of her since it was all I could muster up right now and while she ate I brushed through her hair pulling it up into a ponytail before I helped her with her shoes.

"Do I haft to go?" she protested.

"Yes you do" I told her packing up her school bag, I was a little worried about her especially since the full moon was tonight but she seemed fine and I couldn't keep her home every full moon as that would arouse suspicion with the Argents since Chris knew about her but there was no way he knew she'd inherited the werewolf gene so she had to go. "Come on" I yawned with her begrudgingly stomped towards the door.

I dropped her off walking her to the door just because before getting back in the Camaro yawning once again feeling like my eyelids were ready to close at any moment so I drove below the speed limit back to the motel heading back towards our room going inside eyes falling to the bed straight away and took in the empty sheets.

"Derek!" I yelled out more surprised than anything and began furiously looking around the room as if I'd see evidence of someone breaking in but then I heard the toilet flush and looked up sharply right as the door opened and I watched in shock as Derek walked out up and on his feet. "Derek?" I asked more hesitantly and he smirked over at me.

"Miss me?" he asked and I rolled my eyes marching up to him and punched him in the shoulder. "Okay ow" he exclaimed.

"You ass, do you have any idea what I've been through the last few days-" I raised my fist to hit him again but he caught it in his then pulled me forward pressing his lips against mine and it only took me a second before I melted into his arms wrapping my arms around his neck as I deepened the kiss allowing his tongue entrance as we dominated each other relishing in the fact that he was awake, he was alive. "Mm we should slow down" I protested placing my hand against his chest.

"What happened?" he asked moving towards the bed and sat down.

"I was going to ask you the same thing"

"It was the Alpha" he replied and I nodded already having guessed that. "I confronted this vet but Scott showed up stopping me from getting answers, he then came up with a plan to bring the Alpha to him by howling, that's why we were at the school and he did which brought the Alpha straight to the school and then I felt this pain in my back before it was lights out and next thing I knew I was waking up here"

"It's been two days" I told him and his eyes widened a little.

"How'd you find me?"

"I felt it" he frowned confused by that. "You remember when we were kids, I got into that minor car accident and how you said you knew I'd gotten hurt" he nodded.

"You mean the one you put yourself in by getting into the car with your idiotic boyfriend-"

"Yes well it's like that, I felt a pain in my back and it was the same when you got shot a few weeks ago, your mom always said being mates makes us special and more sensitive to our abilities when it comes to each other" he sighed nodding his head looking down at the ground clasping his hands under his chin. "Hey what's wrong?"

"What's right, I wasn't even able to stop the Alpha then so what makes me think I can do it when I find it again"

"You were ambushed Derek, there was no way you could've stopped what happened and this just proves that you can't do this alone"

"I don't want you or Lia around this, he's already much stronger than we thought and I don't even know who he is" Derek argued looking up.

"This is bigger than just you and me Derek, you know we can't do this alone" he scoffed getting what I was insinuating.

"Scott has no control, he's the reason the Alpha was at the school, didn't you hear his awful howl"

"No I didn't" I sat down beside him. "He can still help us even if I want to seriously maim him for getting you hurt but if anything this proves just how much we need Scott's help because next time you might not get so lucky"

"He's just so…frustrating" I laughed shaking my head at him.

"He's a teenager Der and you need to have patience" he scoffed again. "Besides you should see this as practice since one day your daughter is going to be a teenager and a female werewolf at the same time-"

"Oh god don't even remind me" he groaned cutting me off making me laugh. "Where is Lia?"

"School" I replied and he looked up. "She still needs her education, this guy hunts at night so she's perfectly safe" he nodded rubbing a hand over his tired face. "You should get some more rest" I stood up but he caught my hand.

"I've slept enough, I have to get out there and find this guy" he insisted and I glared at him.

"You nearly died Derek" I reminded him. "Besides tonight's the full moon, do you really think this guys stupid enough to be out tonight especially with the Argents out there, even he would struggle tonight to even think about murdering someone"

"We can't take that chance" he sighed then looked up. "How was Lia this morning?"

"She seemed fine, unaffected but that could change later on tonight" he nodded his head then stood up walking over and cupped my cheek.

"How are you, you look exhausted?"

"I'm fine" I smirked pressing my hand over his. "I've just been up all night looking after you" he shook his head at me before smiling and leaned down to kiss me but stopped short and when I looked at him his eyes were looking behind me, I turned to where the TV was still on the news from this morning and it huge writing it read 'ALLEGED KILLER DEREK HALE STILL AT LARGE' my eyes widened since I hadn't seen that before. "What the hell?!" I exclaimed and reached for the remote turning the sound on.

'Unnamed witnesses of the school hostage situation last Wednesday night have confirmed that the murders that have baffled our small town are reportedly been committed by local man Derek Hale, police are investigating further and any witnesses to his whereabouts are urged to come forward-' I turned off the TV and began pacing in pure untapped rage knowing exactly who the unnamed witnesses are and I'm so going to rip them apart.

"I shouldn't be here" Derek suddenly said making me stop.

"What?" I asked him frowning with confusion.

"It's only a matter of time before the police come here looking for me, our marriage certificate is a public record, Lia's name in school is under Hale cause we couldn't change her New York transcripts, they can arrest you for harboring and take Lia from us" I frowned looking down at the ground.

"Where will you go, they'll no doubt be watching the Hale house too"

"I'll figure something out" I shook my head back and forth still staring at the ground biting back the tears threatening to fall.

"I don't like this, how am I supposed to explain any of this to Lia"

"The truth" he replied and my head snapped up to meet his eyes. "I know you and I both wanted to preserve her innocence but I don't think that's possible anymore" I frowned signing knowing what he said made sense but I didn't like it. "We can't control what she's exposed to, we can only influence the way she's gonna perceive it" I looked up with a small smile.

"That a bit of Talia wisdom?" I asked and he nodded with a small sad smile himself.

"She told me that after we told them you were pregnant and she sensed my fear of being a father, worried about how our child was gonna live in the supernatural world" I nodded since I'd had the same fears.

"Okay but promise me you'll let me know where you are, I can't not hear from you Derek and don't care if it's a freaking postal bird you call me everyday"

"I promise" I sighed and he kissed my forehead before cupping both of my cheeks. "I love you"

"I love you too, so much and I swear to god you better be careful and that I'm gonna find a way to prove your innocence whether that includes threatening two idiotic teenagers into telling the damn truth for once in their lives" he chuckled then leaned in and kissed me slow and deep, my eyes fluttered shut savoring the moment until his lips were gone and when I opened my eyes so was he. "Those kids are so dead" I muttered to myself before looking at the time and decided to head to the shops to top up our supplies before picking up Lia.

I walked the short distance to the local supermarket but just as I was about to cross the street a red SUV stopped in front of me making me stop and glare at the man that got out as he stared at me.

"What do you want?"

"Where's Derek?" Chris asked me and I continued to glare.

"Haven't seen him in days" I replied keeping my face void of all emotion.

"You think I'm stupid, your never far behind him or its the other way around, he's never far behind you" I took offence to that since I recalled Kate saying something similar when she came to the house and electrocuted both Derek and I before shooting at us.

"Why would you think I'd ever tell you where he is even if I did know where he is, now if you'll excuse me" I moved around his car and continued across the street towards the market turning around just in time to see Chris get into his car and drive away but I knew he'd be back.

Third Person's POV

"So what, another night of kicking through leaves in the woods?" Kate asked looking up at Chris Argent who was overlooking a map of Beacon Hills laid out on the table as she approached them with a rifle in her hands.

"I prefer to look at it as another night of trying to keep innocent people from being killed…a list which now includes my daughter" Chris replied as Kate held up the rifle looking through the scope checking it out.

"How do we know he won't try going after her again?" Tyhurst, one of Argents men asked looking up at his boss.

"It won't go after Allison" Kate protested.

"It won't have any target at all, not on a full moon" Chris clarified.

"How come?" another one of Argents men asked him.

"An Alpha is like any other werewolf on a full moon, it struggles under its sway which means tonight is our best chance to catch it, when it's unfocused" Chris replied stabbing a knife down into the map over the woods part.

"Yeah but what if it has a reason to stay focused?" Kate asked voicing a concern to his plan.

"What do you know something we don't?" Chris asked her.

"I just don't like surprises" Kate shrugged. "But you're the expert, so you tell me"

"What about Derek and his bitch?" the young hunter asked.

"They're smarter than that, neither of them will be out tonight especially Derek there's cops everywhere"

"And if for some reason he is-"

"If he is, you find him…you kill him, you cut him in half" Victoria, Chris' wife spoke up cutting her husband off. "Anybody want a cookie?" she asked with a smile.

Kenzie's POV

After picking up some basic groceries I returned to the motel putting everything in its place before turning and saw something sitting on the bed so I walked over and frowned looking down at a new mobile phone still in its box with a note on it, I picked up the note and read:

Kenz,

This is a burner phone and the only way we are to communicate for emergencies until this is over, replace the sim card in a weeks' time as with a new number.

Derek, xoxo
P.S – Burn this letter.

I frowned hating this entire situation but did as he asked grabbing the room supplied hotel matchbox and lit the paper letting it burn before dropping it down the toilet and flushed it for good measure before I pulled the phone out of the packet and got it set up already seeing a text from an unknown number. Emergencies only!. I sighed nodding my head before I looked at the time seeing it was almost time to get Lia from school so I moved to where we kept the Camaro keys but frowned seeing a different set.

"Seriously Derek" I groaned picking them up along with my normal phone, the burner and my purse heading outside and pressed the unlock button on the keys and the lights flashed on a black 2010 Chevy Equinox, I walked over to it trying the handle and it opened so I climbed in and saw another note tapped over the ignition.

Kenz,

The Camaro is too well recognized by both the police and the Argents as my car and no doubt has been linked to the school incident so I used one of our other untraceable bank accounts to buy this for you to get around in and have the Camaro with me to back the story that I've split town, keep to that story no matter what and keep Lia close as possible and both of you stay safe for my sanity.

I love you.
Derek xo
(P.s – Tell people this car had been shipped down from New York, you have forgery paper work in the glove box also burn this letter)

I shook my head since he was really going all out just to keep Lia and I safe and out of this mess before looking around the brand new car seeing Lia's car seat in the back before looking back out the front, I simple small car would have sufficed but I guess this is more believable if I say this was my car from New York and I got shipped here.

I crushed up the letter putting it into the center console for now to get rid of later then drove over to the primary school and hopped out heading to where the kindergarteners come out and waited for the bell to ring but couldn't help notice a few of the other parents that were also waiting were staring and whispering to each other which pissed me off enough that all I had to do was look their direction and they'd move away from where I could see them.

I shook my head about to go wait in the car having enough of hearing and seeing them whisper about Derek, me and Lia but my eyes fell on Kylie, Lucy's mom and couldn't help see red in that moment remembering what she'd said to her daughter about not being allowed to stay friends and I found my feet moving before I'd even thought about it and her eyes widened a little when she saw me.

"Hi Kylie, haven't seen you in ages" I smiled appearing friendly.

"Yes it has been a while" she nodded back. "How have you been?" she asked in a tone that told me she didn't really care for the answer.

"You know I've actually been better, my daughters been very upset lately since apparently our daughters couldn't be friends anymore because you told your daughter she wasn't allowed to be friends with mine, know anything about that?"

"I'm sorry but I just don't feel comfortable with what's going on with your husband" she replied and I raised an eye since at least she was honest but that didn't mean anything since you don't mess with a werewolf's pup.

"Well I would have appreciated you came and talked to me first since Lia was very upset and she doesn't handle being that upset well"

"I've heard" she practically sneered which only served to piss me off even more.

"Yeah well how about next time you don't judge a little girl and make her feel isolated over something she can't control" I snapped feeling the stinginess of my nails growing into claws so I tightened my hands into fists to hide them. "Parents like you are the reason kids grow up to become bullies" I added before I turned and headed back over to the car to calm down before I shifted completely since while I had control it was the full moon and with the added stress of Derek gone I didn't want to risk losing that control.

"Mommy!" I turned around at my sweet baby girls voice and smiled picking her up.

"Is da-"

"Shh" I quickly told her looking around. "We'll talk about when we get in the car okay" she nodded so I put her down and took her hand instead.

"Mommy your hands hurt?" she suddenly asked and I looked down seeing blood where my claws had dug into the skin of my palm so I quickly wiped them on my dark jeans.

"It's okay Lia, mommy just got angry"

"You gots claws?" she whispered and I smiled.

"Yeah baby" I made it to the car and opened the back door.

"Where's Cemero?" she asked mispronouncing Camaro.

"This is mommy's new car" she frowned like the perceptive little kid she was. "We'll talk once were on the road baby" she still kept the frown on her face as she climbed in and I helped buckle her seatbelt before I hopped into the drivers seat and pulled out into the traffic of parents picking up their kids.

"Where's daddy?" she asked impatiently and I sighed.

"He had to go away for a little bit" I told her watching her reaction in the rearview mirror.

"Why?" she pouted.

"Because the police are looking for him, he got blamed for something he didn't do"

"Can't he tell the truth and come home?"

"Not really baby, there's some bad people after him too but I promise you he'll be back as soon as he can"

"What's if he can't?" she asked and I heard the tremor in her voice.

"He will baby, your Dad will never leave us and he's going to do everything he can to come back to us, do you trust me?"

"I do mommy" she replied and I smiled back at her. "I miss Aunty Laura, she always knows what to do" she added after a few minutes and I frowned clenching my fists around the wheel.

"I do too baby girl" I admitted and it was true, I missed having an Alpha since it was in our DNA to have a leader especially in bad times like this but Derek and I are now Omega's and that put a massive target on our backs since we're the bitches of the werewolf community.

I pulled up out the front of the motel room and frowned seeing a police cruiser there waiting, I climbed out and none other than Sheriff Stilinski climbed out and I looked up at the full moon that was just starting to rise.

"Mrs Hale?" he asked and I had no choice but to nod. "I'm just here to ask you a couple of questions"

"Have I done something wrong?" I asked him playing it dumb.

"No but do you know where your husband, Derek Hale is?" he asked me.

"Sorry but no, I haven't heard from him in days" I replied and looked back at Lia who was watching us before I turned back to the sheriff and saw him looking over at Lia as well.

"Do you have any idea where he'd be?"

"No" I shook my head. "Like I said I haven't heard from him"

"What about your daughter, he hasn't shown up at her school?" he asked and I kept the frown off my face.

"No but you can ask her yourself if you'd like" I replied walking over and got Lia out of the car. "Lia have you seen your Dad?" I asked her and she shied into my shoulder but shook her head at the Sheriff.

"Okay, well you let me know if you get into contact with him Mrs Hale, I don't have to remind you that harboring a fugitive is punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison" I took the offered card.

"Will do Sheriff" I replied then watched him leave before I went inside shutting the door and sliding the chain lock into place since Lia and I were officially on lock down tonight and with that thought I was reminded of what could happen tonight. "You feeling okay Lia?" I asked her as she sat on mine and Derek's bed. "No headaches, sore gums or fingers?" I asked since they were the usual signs in young werewolves of their first shifts.

"No mommy" she shook her head so I nodded and flipped on the TV to a kids channel for her.

"You hungry?" she nodded so I headed over to the kitchenette and pulled out a mac 'n' cheese box along with a saucepan to heat it up. "You tell me if you feel any of those things okay Lia"

"I know mommy" she replied making me smile as I continued to cook while keeping my eyes on Lia, I was glad I didn't have a shift at the hospital tonight since now without Derek around it was going to be even harder since I was practically a single parent until all this mess is sorted.

I dished it up once it was heated and we ate while we talked about how school was going and she wouldn't stop talking about this boy she'd met the one that was her boyfriend which made me smile since at least she had one friend whose parents were making him not be friends with her.

After dinner she went back over to watch TV while I cleaned up the kitchenette area and washed the dishes but pretty quickly I couldn't help noticing Lia was looking flushed so I stopped what I was doing and walked over to her seeing sweat on her brows.

"You feeling okay baby girl?" I touched the back of my hand to her forehead and frowned since she felt warm which was strange since werewolves don't get sick.

"I feels hot and my head hurts" my frown grew.

"Lets take off your jacket" I helped her out of her jacket and turned on the AC then waited a little bit quickly finishing the dishes before I walked back over and felt her forehead again and she still felt a little warm. "How you feeling?"

"My head still hurts" she told me and I was starting to worry she was shifting.

"Where's the pain Lia, can you point to it?" I immediately went into nurse mode and she pointed to the sides of her face and temples which definitely had me on edge, I moved over to the burner phone debating whether or not I should call Derek knowing he'd want to be here but if it was a false alarm and he got caught because of it…I sighed dropping the phone. "Why don't we got have a bath, see if that helps" she nodded and I got her sitting in the bath to cool her down and pressed a warm rag to her head to ease the pain since pain meds won't work. "Feel better Lia?"

"A little mommy" she replied and I let out a small, relieved breath. "Am I shifting?" she asked.

"I don't know…I don't think so" I told her as I helped her out of the bath and into some pj's unable to stop thinking that she was officially starting to come into the ability to shift and it was only a matter of time before she went through her first and I hopped it wasn't tonight or even the next full moon for that matter.

Derek's POV

I was hiding in the shadows of Beacon Hills fighting off the full moons pull unable to stop thinking about Kenzie and Lia because I should be with them but all because of Scott and his idiot friend they made me a wanted fugitive and now I can't even be around my family and was stuck on the run from not only the Argents but the police now too.

I had suddenly caught the scent of Scott and tracked him just in time to see him jump on the top of some car and upon a quick further look I saw Argents daughter and the lacrosse kid Jackson inside so I moved slamming my body into Scott's knocking him off before I jumped up and grabbed his shirt throwing him down the hill out of sight as he was out of control.

He got back up into a crouch growling up at me as I walked to the top of the cliff before I jumped down rolling into a crouch of my own shifting and snarled my lips at him right before he charged with a roar, I ducked and countered grabbing his arm pinning it behind his back putting my other one around him.

"Stop…Scott stop!" I growled out but he kept fighting so I threw him against one of the trees nearby but he checked himself and turned charging again but I ducked and he jumped over me instead before I flipped back onto my feet and turned around to face him once again.

He charged never giving up and swung at me but I leant back dodging each one before he lost balance and I used this to kick him away but once again he turned and charged and continued trying to land punches before I'd had enough and grabbed his arm before kicking his legs out and slammed him down on the ground before snarling directly into his face and he scrambled backwards finally seemingly coming out and into some level of control.

I waited a few seconds just to make sure before I took steps towards him shifting back to human just needing to think about my wife and daughter and he looked me up and down before he raised his hand showing himself his claws breathing heavily.

"What's happening to me?" he asked.

"Exactly what he wants to happen" I replied and he knew who I was talking about having seen the Alpha up close now.

After a while he finally shifted back in exhaustion so I helped him up and helped him home with his arm over my shoulders as we ascended his stairs going into his room and I helped him sit on his bed before I made a move to leave.

"Wait" he called out and I stopped turning back around. "I…I can't do this, I can't be this and be with Allison" he breathed shaking his head as I frowned. "I need you to tell me the truth…is there a cure?"

"For someone who was bitten?" I asked back and he nodded, there wasn't but Kenzie was right we needed his help and I was determined more than ever to find this guy so I had no choice but to lie. "I've heard of one, I don't know whether its true"

"Well what is it?" he demanded when I paused.

"You have to kill the one that bit you"

"Kill the Alpha?!" he exclaimed and I nodded watching as he exhaled throwing his arms out as I took steps towards him.

"Scott…if you help me find him…I'll help you kill him"

Kenzie's POV

Lia had fallen asleep in our bed, she still looked a little feverish so I left her be and sat at the small round table anxiously watching over her too worried to sleep myself and subconsciously played with the burner phone in my hand still wondering if this is something I should mention to Derek but before I was able to dwell any further I heard a soft thud come from the other room…Lia's room so I stood and silently moved towards it peeking through seeing a shadow move near the window so I crept forward waiting for them to come through before I grabbed them and pulled them down slamming them on the ground my arm pressed against their throat.

"Easy Kenz" I leant back eyes widening seeing Derek beneath me.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him as I hopped off and helped him onto his feet.

"I had to check in, I couldn't help sense something was up" he replied and I sighed running my hand over my brow. "What's wrong, is Lia okay?"

"She's fine, she's asleep" I told him and saw his eyes move over to the bed so I shook my head. "Our bed, it's where she fell asleep and I didn't want to move her"

"What happened?"

"She had a bit of a temperature-"

"That's not possible" he replied and I nodded my agreement.

"It also came with a headache on either side of her temples" I added and his eyes widened a little understanding. "This couldn't be happening at the worst of times"

"She didn't shift completely, we still have time Kenz"

"Probably a month at max Derek, what if we don't find the Alpha by then…what if the Argents find out she's a werewolf…what if your taken away-"

"Hey that's not going to happen" he cut me off grabbing my hand pulling me to him as he wrapped his arms around me and instantly I felt calmer in the arms of my mate.

"The Sheriff was here earlier, asking me if I'd seen you…they're watching me, they're watching Lia and that includes the Argents"

"I know which is why I had to sneak in the back way, there was a deputy car outside" he replied and I sighed leaning back to look into his eyes.

"I don't know if I can do this without you, I nearly lost control today"

"What happened?" he asked sounding a little shocked and I knew it was because very rarely did I lose my cool enough to lose control ever since I learnt how to control my shifts.

"I saw Lucy's mom and confronted her, my claws grew out and I was this close from sporting yellow eyes and growling at her" I replied and he chuckled so I hit his chest. "Its not funny Derek, that's not the example I should be setting for Lia especially right now, I let the anger get the better of me"

"It's the full moon Kenzie, your on edge…it happens, she needs to understand that as well" I sighed nodding my head since he had a point. "Even the best of us can lose control in some situations"

"I'm scared" I admitted looking up. "And you and I both know I don't handle fear very well"

"I know, Scott's finally agreed to help me track down the Alpha"

"Why now?" I asked confused since last I knew Scott was the reason Derek was wanted for the murder of three people including Laura.

"He was out there tonight, nearly about to attack Argents daughter and that lacrosse player that hates him Jackson, I managed to stop him before they saw anything and got him to shift back before taking him home"

"Well that's good but I still want to maim him" he chuckled.

"He asked if there was a cure?" he added and my eyes snapped up to meet his. "I lied and said there was" I frowned not sure I liked lying to the kid and giving him hope. "I told him he has to kill the Alpha"

"Are you insane?" I asked him.

"It's the only way he was going to help Kenz"

"Yeah but you gave him hope for a cure that doesn't exist, there is no cure for lycanthropy"

"You and I both know that but he doesn't have to as long as it gets me to the Alpha"

"And do what, kill him…take back Laura's power"

"Well yeah" he shrugged like it was obvious. "He killed Laura Kenzie-"

"I know that but since when have you ever wanted to be Alpha"

"I never had to think about it before Laura was killed but that power belongs to my family Mackenzie and I'm not gonna let his asshole get away with stealing it" I glared at him because he never uses my full name even when we're fighting.

"I just don't ever want to think about you killing someone Derek, no matter how much they deserve it" I replied and watched him lower his eyes to the ground and immediately I was aware of what I said and the memory that arose in Derek.

"I should go, I've been here too long" he moved to the window.

"Derek wait" I called out softly. "I'm sorry I didn't think"

"I'm not the bad guy Kenzie" he replied before he was gone and I frowned because that wasn't supposed to end that way, I turned and headed back out to check on Lia seeing her still asleep and with the calm energy that Derek had brought me despite out fight I climbed into the bed and cuddled with my daughter finally being able to fall asleep.
