Welcome everyone to chapter seven. We would like to say thank you to everyone who took the time to read some random account's story and especially to the ones who reviewed or favorited it.
This chapter will continue the week break, now a training week after a rethink and rewrite.
Jaune and Pyrrha will train together, team RWBY will train together and a couple training sessions will be had. Where the teams will fight Grimm for the first time in this story.
Also a nice time will be had by Pyrrha and Jaune. Maybe something may finally start happening that would make Pyrrha happy.
Anyways, welcome to our story, we hope you like it.
Of course, we do not own RWBY and we won't make even a nickel from this story, it's all for fun, playing in RoosterTeeth's sandbox.
Onwards to A Second Chance.

Chapter Seven – Training, a "Date" and more Training
After getting their combat outfits Pyrrha and Jaune made it to a training room pretty quickly and luckily without getting noticed by anyone who would have either followed them or asked Pyrrha to train with them. A few moments of changing clothes later found them in the arena, setting it up.
Pyrrha smiled at a nervous looking Jaune "Don't worry Jaune, it will just be technique and endurance this time." She said as she took out her sword and readied her stance.
"Right, no problem…" Jaune said weakly as he got ready too. Going against Pyrrha was always a unnerving thing, no matter how much she helped him by holding back. Jaune was always aware that if she wanted to, a sudden move from her could end any spar or training they were doing.
Jaune held up his sword and on Pyrrha's "GO!" he stepped forward and took an almost form correct slash. Pyrrha lazily blocked it with her sword and sent an equally lazy slash back at Jaune.
Jaune caught the downwards slash with his shield and blocked it, his footwork was kind of shaky. Even the weakest slash from Pyrrha had some strength and speed behind it. An example of the vast difference in the skill level.
The lazy, from Pyrrha's side, exchange of slashes continued, Jaune managing to block, deflect or sidestep all of them. Pyrrha very easily blocked all of Jaune's far more serious slashes and swings. Though as friendly as the spar had been going Jaune was starting to feel some of Pyrrha's slashes more and more.
Several times Jaune had to tighten his grip on his sword while blocking or deflecting a slash as the hit still rattled his hand and once nearly tore his sword from his hand.
Pyrrha smiled while she sent another lazy upwards slash against Jaune, he managed to block it with his shield and took a step back. Pyrrha was quite happy that Jaune's footwork was improving quickly and that he was using his shield more and more.
After another 15 minutes of lazy slashes, swings and two stabs, just to keep Jaune on his toes, Pyrrha took a step back and lowered her sword. "That was great Jaune, your footwork has improved a lot in the past couple weeks. And you are actually using and combining different attacks well." She said very happily.
Jaune took a deep breath and smiled widely, Pyrrha's encouragement was always so positive, it made him feel like he could actually catch up to everyone quickly. Though Jaune knew that Pyrrha was being just a bit too nice. His footwork still felt rough and shaky.
But Jaune appreciated the sudden break, he was sweating pretty heavy and was starting to breathe heavily. A lazy spar with Pyrrha was still a workout and a half, she kept him always moving, repositioning, dodging, attacking back. Thankfully he wasn't feeling any burns or deep aches yet.
Very unfairly, Pyrrha wasn't out of breath or even sweating all that much. She looked like she just finished a light jog. Jaune grumbled a bit under his breath. She was in so much better shape than him.
Pyrrha nodded "Okay, since we warmed up, how about a slightly faster pace?" she asked, bringing her sword back up and getting ready.
Jaune sighed and brought his sword back up, getting ready as well. He saw Pyrrha smile at him and say "Go". This time though, Jaune took a step back while bringing his shield up at an angle. 9 times out of 10 Pyrrha always went with what was basically the same attack, no matter how she started it. And he would be ready for it.
Pyrrha smiled as she stepped forward and saw Jaune moving his shield to deflect her opening slash, it was a great defensive move based on how well he knew her. Pyrrha was impressed and curious, not many people predicted or followed her moves that well.
Pyrrha followed her habit and sent the slash at Jaune, which he just managed to deflect with his shield. She stepped into him and rotated herself a bit, sending a slash, swing and stab at Jaune in quick secession. Moving to the right as she attacked.
Jaune gasped and caught the next slash with his sword, took a step back to just block the swing which scraped against his shield. The stab hit him though, right in his upper thigh. He grunted and felt his aura take a dive due to that hit. Jaune then moved, quickly taking a few rapid steps towards Pyrrha.
He tried to catch Pyrrha off-guard by sending a nearly full powered shield bash her way, followed by a quick series of slashes. Unfortunately for Jaune, Pyrrha sidestepped his shield bash and deflected all of his slashes with her sword.
On Jaune's last slash, Pyrrha caught the cross guard of Jaune's sword with her sword and threw some more of her strength into swinging her sword down. Her move caused Jaune to lose his grip on his sword, which fell to the ground.
Pyrrha pulled her sword back and took a step back as well, seeing Jaune lean down to pick up his sword.
Jaune leaned down to pick up his sword and as he was reaching for it an interesting thought came to his head. Pyrrha always did say to try and be unpredictable when fighting, so, maybe it would work now? Very slowly he looked towards Pyrrha while trying to not move he head too much.
She was looking a him, but wasn't in her regular ready stance. Jaune decided to try, he readied his shield and trying to move as fast as possible he shot up and dashed towards Pyrrha while he got ready to swing his shield.
A moment later he was in front of Pyrrha and swinging his shield at her. Time seemed to slow down for Jaune as he watched his shield's edge get closer and closer to Pyrrha. Only to see Pyrrha twirl out of the way with a smile on her face.
Jaune's next swing and bash met the same fate, Pyrrha dodged the swing by bending back and twirled out of the way of his bash. Very unfortunately for Jaune, the momentum of the bash carried him forward and Pyrrha's twirl brought her to just behind him.
Pyrrha took advantage of her position and smacked Jaune on the back with the flat of her sword. Jaune's momentum plus the hit knocked him just off balance enough to send him to the ground. Where Jaune's face painfully met the back of his shield.
Jaune groaned feeling more of his aura drain, he slowly rolled over on to his back and saw Pyrrha with the same smile on her face standing there. He huffed at her.
Pyrrha felt her smile grow "Good try Jaune in trying to catch me off guard, but you should always try to have a next step or disengagement if your surprised attack fails." Pyrrha then reached her hand down.
Jaune sighed and nodded, good advice for anyone, just not something that would work against Pyrrha. He reached out his hand and grabbed hers. He was pulled up, back onto his feet by Pyrrha. Jaune then walked over to pick up his sword.
Pyrrha tracked Jaune and once he had his sword, she brought hers up and decided to fake surprise attack Jaune. Just to show him how it should feel. She said "On guard" to give him a chance and moved forward. As she rushed towards Jaune she turned her sword into her spear.
Jaune heard Pyrrha and he reacted by turning towards her and bringing his shield up, a second later he saw Pyrrha's slash which he tried to block. Only to notice at the last second that it was a feint and the slash was coming from another direction.
What happened next was so fast the Jaune couldn't track it fully. As he started to move his sword to catch her slash, he wasn't fast enough and she hit him in his arm. Her upwards slash forced his arm and sword up, leaving him wide open. Something knocked one of his knees to the side, unbalancing him.
Then Pyrrha's arm and spear came up against his chest as she move around him. A second later Jaune was up in the air being thrown over Pyrrha's shoulder. The end of her attack found Jaune being painfully reintroduced with the floor.
A loud "Oof" came out of Jaune as he crashed into the floor. Pyrrha then took a step back looking at Jaune groaning on the floor. A minute later when he managed to get back up, Pyrrha looked him over and said "Always be ready for surprise or rush attacks as well. You shouldn't take your eyes off your opponent."
Pyrrha saw Jaune nod and pick up his sword again. She brought her now sword up "Okay, I think that's enough sudden moves, let's get back to what we were doing."
The next 40 minutes or so was proper form and endurance training, from Pyrrha's perspective. She would have Jaune send a series of slashes, swings and stabs at her while keeping on eye on Jaune's footwork. She would comment along the way about possible improvements and what he was doing good.
Pyrrha would then flip their roles and she would send a series of attacks Jaune's way and have him block, dodge or counterattack. Her attacks were no longer the lazy swings from the start, they had some speed and strength, but she was still going slow and light.
At the end of the 40 minutes Pyrrha stepped back and lowered her sword. Jaune followed quickly after her, though he dropped his sword and shield on the ground and sat down. Jaune groaned as he laid down on the ground.
Jaune felt dead tired, normal huntsmen fights were quick things, having to keep moving for over an hour with just a few breaks… Jaune looked at Pyrrha who also set her sword and shield down and sat down beside him.
Jaune was slightly happy that it looked like the training even affected Pyrrha. True she wasn't as out of breath or sweaty as him, but she was breathing heavily and was sweaty. Constant moving for an hour would even hit Pyrrha.
Pyrrha sighed as she sat down beside Jaune. The training took more out of her than she thought. Though Jaune looked one step from just passing out. She turned to look at Jaune "You did great, your footwork and form during attacks and dodges improved so much. And you kept your footwork even when you were tired."
Pyrrha heard Jaune laugh at that, "Yeah, you probably have better endurance than most of the students here. That's good, it gives you more options during fights." Pyrrha said pretty happy with what she saw during training.
Pyrrha saw Jaune nod, she then shifted herself a bit and laid down as well. Her head landed on Jaune's stomach and she let out a content hum.
Jaune felt good, emotionally and mentally, not physically, his body was bruised and battered. But Pyrrha's words and his own sense of improvement raised his spirits. He knew that Pyrrha was going easy on him, but even so, not many people would be able to keep up with Pyrrha for an hour.
Though Jaune did become conscious of how sweaty he was as he felt Pyrrha adjust her head on his stomach. Did he smell bad? Could Pyrrha smell him? "Thanks Pyrrha, you have no idea how much I appreciate your training. "
"But, I think I should take a shower before I stink up the room." Jaune said as he looked at Pyrrha. Her head still on his stomach, she had a light happy smile on her face as she turned to look at him.
Pyrrha smiled and saw an uneasy expression on Jaune's face, he was probably worrying about how badly he smelled. And yeah he was sweaty, Pyrrha could even feel the dampness of his shirt under her head. But his smell wasn't as bad as she thought it would have been.
Pyrrha held her tongue, saying that she kind of liked the smell of his sweat might be a step too far. At least for now. She did chuckle and sigh as she stood up "Alright, a shower does sound good."
After helping Jaune up both of them gathered their swords and shields and went to the changing rooms to shower. Some minutes later Pyrrha walked out and saw Jaune waiting for her, leaning against a wall.
Pyrrha smiled widely as she walked up to him and wrapped an arm around one of his. "Come on, lets get back to the room to drop off our things and grab some food."
Pyrrha saw Jaune nod and they walked off. Pyrrha was a bit surprised to find herself in a very good mood. The shopping trip went well, everyone chose new, better armour, she got to talk to her uncle after a too long time and no one recognized her while they were in Vale.
Plus she didn't have and flashes or visions or episodes during the whole trip and for the whole training session. Though that was a common thing, Pyrrha for some reason, she suspected it being her feelings for Jaune, never felt the dark impulse to survive while fighting him. For everyone else it was there. In greater or lesser amounts, but there.
And if everyone else wasn't back yet, she would be able to eat with Jaune alone, just the two of them. Like a date! For the last week and a half she never managed to eat alone with Jaune. Someone was always there.
After a very leisurely stroll back to their dorm where Pyrrha cozied up against Jaune's side and they talked about what to do during the week they dropped off their things and walked back out of the room. It looked like Nora and Ren weren't back yet.
Pyrrha had a large happy smile as they walked to one of the small outdoor cafés in the courtyard of Beacon. She was cozied up against Jaune's side even more, wrapping one of her arms around his waist and after a moment of fussing about, she had Jaune wrapping one of his arms around her waist.
They made it to the courtyard while Jaune was telling her a story about shopping with 3 of his sisters. "So, in the end I was carrying about six bags of stuff and they still haven't found their perfect gift for our mom." Jaune shook his head "They had almost no money left, so they decided they would buy a roll of soft fabric and make mom a dress."
Jaune chuckled as he continued the story "After buying like 3 different types of fabric and everything else, they spent the next 4 hours locked in the basement making the dress. It actually turned out okay." Jaune chuckled again "Mom wears it around the house a lot. But man was my older sister Claire angry that they spent all the money that she and dad gave them on random stuff."
Pyrrha laughed and leaned even more into Jaune "Sounds like your mom had interesting birthdays."
Jaune nodded "Never a dull moment, but at times it was just a bit too much family times. Like even on our dad's birthday when we went camping I had to carry 4 of my sisters during the 2 days."
Pyrrha raise an eyebrow "What happened?"
"Jade lost one of her boots in the mud" Jaune laughed while he said that "Had to give her a piggyback for like 2 miles, Skye tripped on a branch and hurt her knee so I had to carry her down the trail to the tent." Jaune shook his head at the memory "Maya like Skye tripped, she didn't get hurt, but her tripping did send her sandals flying and I had to carrying her over the rough ground back to the grass. Lily got tired on a hike we got lost on and I had to carry her back to the campsite. Lily doesn't have the best stamina and gets tired easily."
Pyrrha nodded and felt her smile soften, she was an only child and she didn't have many cousins her age. Her family didn't have many kids. To grow up with 7 sisters… Pyrrha didn't know what she would have done, would she maybe make her sisters hate her? Would she get along with all of them…
Pyrrha wasn't sure, but hearing how much Jaune loved his sisters, no matter how much they annoyed him… He has such a big heart. Pyrrha snuggled into Jaune even more, imagining a time when his sisters would be her sisters in law.
"I don't know how I would have managed with 7 siblings…" Pyrrha said still wondering if all of Jaune's sisters would like her when she became Jaune's girlfriend… and wife after they graduate… Pyrrha felt a massive blush grow on her face just imagining that.
Jaune chuckled "You would have done great. You're like the nicest person ever."
Pyrrha shook her head, trying to get rid of the sudden images of her married to Jaune, raising a family, and not quite believing that she would be so good with siblings. She had a hard enough time making friends. Staying close and on friendly terms with siblings… she wouldn't have the foggiest idea how.
Pyrrha sighed a "Maybe" and pulled Jaune toward the open air café "Anyways, do you know what you want?"
They took an out of the way table, by the corner edge of the café's sitting area, a bit hidden by the trees on one end, the wall on the other. It looked it no one should interrupt them. And bonus the café looked mostly empty since they came at a weird time.
After having an, in Pyrrha's opinion, very cozy and intimate light dinner, a lit candle on their table, their knees touching, her leg rubbing against his. Jaune finishing a couple more stories about his family, she talked about her family. They now sat at the table in the fading light and sipped delicious coffee. Relaxing. Chatting.
Pyrrha felt that this was so much a date, that she wouldn't know what a date could be if not this. It made her ridiculously happy. They never had a dinner like this last time, just the two of them in soft fading light, the flickering flame of the candle reflecting in Jaune's too blue eyes. Talking about purely personal things. Enjoying each other's company.
Pyrrha could see Jaune relaxed in a way she never saw before. He sat there, one hand holding the coffee cup, his other hand gesturing as he talked, relaxed into the soft back of the chair. His long legs stretched out giving her the chance to lay her legs down on his and rub her foot up and down one of his legs. His hair was loose and so fluffy looking, moving about in the light breeze. A happy smile of his face.
No tension anywhere she could see. No nervousness. No unease.
Pyrrha wished with all her heart that Jaune could be like this more often. Always even. Just a happy boy with her.
Pyrrha could not keep an adoring looking smile and expression off her face. She needed this to happen more often. She wondered if Jaune would be open to weekly dinners like this. Just the two of them at some cozy place.
Jaune drank his coffee and wondered. Wondered when he felt so relaxed, wondered why he felt so relaxed with Pyrrha, wondered why he was so happy. Jaune wondered if he was on a date with Pyrrha…
It sure felt like one, just the two of them together, in a cozy date like place. He saw Pyrrha sitting there, one hand holding her coffee, her other hand reaching to pick up a muffin from the table. The light breeze was blowing her hair a bit. She was relaxing into the chair, one of her legs was resting on top of his, she took her shoe off her other foot and was rubbing one of his legs up and down with it.
The look on her face was one that Jaune never saw before. The look was so soft looking, caring, happy. Jaune didn't know what that expression was, but he wanted Pyrrha to show it more often to him.
Jaune also never saw Pyrrha so relaxed looking, she was a mostly easy going girl, but Pyrrha still did hold herself to a pretty high standard. And she didn't want attention from people. So she always seemed kind of tense to him.
Now though, now it looked like she had no tension left.
Jaune wondered when it happened, the change or something, that made him feel so happy just seeing a happy, relaxed Pyrrha across from him. When he started wanting to see Pyrrha happy, not because she was his partner, trainer or friend, but just because it would mean that Pyrrha was happy.
Jaune sipped his coffee as he pondered on the change inside him. Pyrrha's vision of course played a part, but it was more than that…
Pyrrha felt her smile shrink a bit at the thought of what came next. This happy date would end and they would have to go back to their room, back to people, and she might not be able to get this date like feeling again. Now that she felt it once. Pyrrha needed to feel this feeling again.
But that was a future worry. For now Pyrrha finished her coffee and smiled sadly at Jaune "So, ready to head back?"
Jaune nodded and they stood up, he offered to pay before Pyrrha could say anything and walked over to pay for them… their date… He came back to a majestic sight. Pyrrha standing their with a small smile on her face, her head tilted up a bit, her arms lightly crossed, leaning with her hip against the table. She was all relaxed looking with the sun setting behind her.
Her red hair and the fiery sun blended together, her form stood backlit and outlined by the sun. To Jaune in that moment, he kind of understood what everyone else saw in her, it did look like Pyrrha was some kind of goddess. She turned to him when she heard him which gave him the view of her head, outlined by the sun. Her happy looking face smiling at him. All with the sun and darkening sky as a backdrop.
Jaune had a blink and raised his hand to place over his chest. His heart was beating so loudly he was surprised that Pyrrha wasn't hearing it. And why did it felt like his heart skipped a beat there, when Pyrrha turned her head to look at him.
Pyrrha walked over to Jaune and wrapped her arm around one of his. "Come on, let's see if Nora and Ren made it back yet. And we need to get ready for tomorrow. Rumor has it that Goodwitch will be making some sort of announcement."
Jaune nodded and they very slowly made their way back. Pyrrha talking a bit about her busy preteen years, which were all training, school, travelling and family business stuff. It sounded way too much in Jaune's opinion. Far too much for a kid.
But Pyrrha did have drive and a competitive side, so Jaune believed that after a while Pyrrha just naturally wanted to get better. Improve herself.
They took a meandering path back, basically walking around the whole grounds of Beacon before walking up the stairs to their dorm. Pyrrha cozied up against Jaune's side the entire time. Feeling the warmth coming from his body. She was really tempted to ask Jaune to carry her.
Though he was still probably tired.
Walking up to their room they heard noise coming from team RWBY's room and their room. It sounded like everyone was back. Walking into their room they greeted Nora and Ren. Jaune pulled out a comic and dropped onto his bed.
Pyrrha chuckled and turned to Nora to ask about her day.
The evening was quiet consisting of Pyrrha and Nora talking about Vale, shopping and what they wanted to do during their week off. Jaune and Ren read their comic and book and jumped into the conversation when they had too.
They all went to sleep pretty early, Pyrrha snuggling into a tired Jaune's side. Nora looked longingly at Ren's bed and made glorious plans to take her rightful place there. Under the covers by his side.
Sunday morning was a lazy morning, possibly the laziest team JNPR ever had, unlike their sister team. Jaune got a message from Ruby letting him know that her team had a busy day planned. They would be in the training room most of the day planning their fight against Pyrrha. When Jaune let Pyrrha know she laughed.
The morning and early afternoon was mostly spent relaxing, minus a late breakfast.
Jaune was relaxing in the comfiest recliner in the common room reading a pretty funny webcomic. The reason why no one bothered him about the chair was laying on top of him. Pyrrha was relaxing in Jaune's lap, though with them reclining back, she was basically laying on top of him.
Pyrrha was watching one of the recorded training sessions between Yang and Blake, mostly comparing how Blake fought now versus in the future. She was snuggled into Jaune as much as possible. Her head on his warm, firm chest, her legs brought up to his lap. She glared at anyone coming too close to them. She was not leaving this position if she could help it.
A little ways across the room on a loveseat Ren was deep into a book he really wanted to read, but had no time to, until today. He held the book up with one hand, flipping the pages with his thumb somehow. His other hand was almost unconsciously running through Nora's hair.
Nora was laying down, her head on Ren's lap, really enjoying him basically petting her. She was messing around on her scroll, sending pictures of Jaune and Pyrrha to a chat here and a forum there. Updating a general Beacon student chat with details about the upcoming fight between Pyrrha and team RWBY. And trying to track down a pancake recipe that she wanted Ren to try making.
Nora also joined Pyrrha in glaring at anyone who got too close. She didn't get to stay this close to Ren often, so yeah, no one was interrupting.
Unknown to team JNPR, that Sunday morning spawned a few rumors. Rumors that included that the team JNPR pairs were actually dating. Together. Couples. And that Pyrrha and Nora did not like couple time interrupted. That they would send whoever did interrupt the coldest and nastiest glares.
Very few were confident enough that they would survive a pissed off Pyrrha or Nora to actually interrupt and let them know that the comfy chairs and sofas were for sharing. So no one interrupted them until they left for dinner.
- Scene Break -
Across Beacon in a reserved training room team RWBY was not having a relaxing day, they under the direction of Weiss were using their free Sunday to train, plan and strategize. Weiss was convinced that they would not be able to win against Pyrrha if they just fought her with no plan.
Plus they never really fought as a team against a human opponent. They need to learn how to coordinate attacks and not get in each other's way. To that end Weiss had her team pair up in different pairs and fight a single high setting bot to learn what was an issue.
The issue that was found was pretty self evident, her team, apart from Yang and Ruby, had very little coordination with each other in a fight. She and Ruby had some coordination, Yang and Blake had somewhat more coordination. But that was about it.
Which is why Weiss was trying to dodge a surprisingly aggressive Blake while keeping an eye on where Ruby was. Thankfully Yang, her partner for this fight, was keeping Blake pretty busy and got in the way of Ruby's attacks some of the time.
Though this spar was proving to be chaotic.
Weiss gasped as she used her semblance to hop out of the way of Ruby who came at her with a slash. Weiss turned her head to see if she could find Yang as she sent an ice stream at Ruby. Ruby dashed out of the way of her attack. Yang was unfortunately for Weiss busy with Blake. Weiss huffed and brought her sword up to block another slash from Ruby.
Yang laughed as she punched through one of Blake's dust clones. Blake's semblance was damn annoying and unfortunately for her Blake had a full reserve of dust thanks to Weiss. Yang looked around quickly and saw a shadow through the smoke left behind by the dust clone. Ah, that had to be Blake.
Yang brought up her arm and blocked a slash from Blake with her gauntlet. She then threw a right hook at Blake who dodged it. Yang jumped forward throwing a series of punches at Blake who annoyingly dodged them all. Gods, Blake was such a slippery fighter. But this was turning out to a be fun fight.
Blake dodged another punch from Yang that might have broke her rib if it hit and ran to the right, Yang turned and jumped after her. Blake swung her scabbard blocking a punch from Yang. But unfortunately for her just at that moment Weiss noticed an opportunity and set down a gravity glyph under her next step.
Blake noticed her sudden slowness but was too late to do anything. A kick from Yang sent her flying off the floor of the arena and towards a wall. Which she painfully hit. And with the combination of the kick and hitting the wall her aura dropped by a surprising amount. Though luckily for Blake the gravity glyph cost Weiss.
Weiss needed to pull her attention from Ruby for a moment to cast the glyph which let Ruby use that time to dash forward and smack Weiss in the side with the flat of her scythe's blade. Though in some bad luck for Weiss, Ruby's hit carried a lot more force due to Ruby's speed. Which in a surprise to both of them caused Weiss to fly off towards the wall.
Weiss in only a moment went from the joy of seeing a plan work which resulted in Blake being thrown out of bounds to the pain of being hit. Then the surprise and disorientation of flying through the air and ending in the different and unique pain of crashing into a wall. Weiss groaned as her aura dropped by a very large amount.
Yang saw both Blake and Weiss fly in opposite directions, Blake from her kick and Weiss from what Yang assumed was Ruby's attack. That had to have been painful for both of them. And while Yang did feel bad for them. Those were the breaks, either you won or your were sent flying into a wall.
Yang had a sudden wonder about the design of this training room and why the walls were so close to the arena on 2 sides.
Though Yang quickly refocused and turned to face Ruby. Something she did many times before. Ruby was an annoying person to fight as well. But once Yang got through Ruby's speed Ruby was relatively easy to fight for her.
Ruby gulped as she looked at Yang. Fighting Yang was never easy. Yang was strong and tough. Ruby adjusted her grip on her weapon and dashed forward with a slash, avoiding a spray of shotgun shells from Yang. After a sharp turn to the right then left Ruby swung at Yang.
Yang was hit by Ruby's first slash which grazed her arm and just managed to block the second. She counterattacked by sending a series of punches at Ruby. Ruby blocked the first punch with the staff of her scythe but the second punch grazed her shoulder before Ruby dashed away. Yang chuckled and shot at Ruby a few times as Ruby ran around her.
Ruby's shoulder was really stinging as she dashed around Yang and looked for an opening. Ruby knew that she couldn't hit Yang too much since that would only make Yang's semblance stronger. Ruby saw an opening and made her move. She jumped and took a shot at Yang who notice her jumping and blocked her shot with a gauntlet.
Ruby then used Yang's block to change her position and dashed down at Yang while swinging her scythe. Ruby's attack hit Yang's back and caused Yang to stumble forwards. But Ruby couldn't stay still for long. Out of habit due to fighting Ruby so many times Yang allowed herself to drop and roll forwards. And during the drop Yang rotated her upper body a bit which let her shoot at Ruby with one arm.
Ruby just managed to move when a series of shots from Yang's gauntlet came at her. Unfortunately for Ruby the shots being like shotgun shots cause a good amount to hit her side and back. One shot that hit the back of her knee as she came out of a semblance power dash caused Ruby to stagger.
Ruby felt another couple hits to the backside of her legs as she engaged her semblance and jumped up. This gave Yang the time to complete her roll and stand up.
Yang grumbled as she shook Ruby's slash off, Ruby's attacks were nothing to sneeze at. If that attack hit Weiss or Blake they might have been in trouble. Yang refocused and tracked Ruby as she shot at her and Ruby used that shot to fly to the other side of the arena. Yang responded with shots of her own.
Ruby then dashed forwards again, this time Yang used the little time she had and took up a stance. As Ruby's slash hit her left arm Yang sent a punch straight at Ruby. Yang was very lucky and the punch connected with Ruby's stomach and flung her away.
Ruby felt the impact of Yang's punch. It made her gasp and she desperately tried to catch herself, but it was too late. As Ruby engaged her semblance she was already out of bounds. Ruby shakily landed on the ground, holding her stomach with one hand. Gods that hurt. Her aura dropped a lot due to that hit.
Weiss looked from her place leaning against the wall beside where she hit and sighed. Their prospects of winning against Pyrrha weren't the best. They were all good individual fighters and unfortunately for them that was how they fought best.
But Weiss had another idea. It was for later though since that last spar went a bit too far. They were all low on aura. Even Yang was below half, getting hit with a bunch of attacks and two of Ruby's semblance enhanced slashes did take a toll.
Weiss groaned as she pushed of the wall and walked towards Yang. "Well, I think that it enough for now, let's all take a shower and go get some food." Weiss said as she came to a stop beside Yang and with a sigh high-fived a smiling Yang.
Ruby groaned and rubbed her stomach as she walked to Yang and Weiss. "Sounds good, Yang did you have to punch me so hard?" Ruby said while glaring at Yang "It was just supposed to be a spar."
Blake nodded as she walked towards the changing room door.
Yang chuckled a bit, embarrassed and scratched the back of her head "Sorry Rubes, you to Blakey. Didn't mean to hit either of you so hard."
Weiss sighed and clapped Yang on the shoulder, at least they won. And maybe having Yang as their punching bag while fighting Pyrrha would be a good idea, and Yang's punishment for not holding back. Ruby may like that. Weiss would have to run it past her.
They all made their way to the changing room and after some longer showers than normal they met up at the door.
Walking to their room to drop off their stuff and then towards the cafeteria was a slow affair, Ruby and Weiss taking the time to go over some more possible strategies for fighting Pyrrha with Yang and Blake jumping in.
"So if Yang holds Pyrrha's attention and stays in close quarter combat with her, that would let us attack Pyrrha from behind and the sides." Ruby said as she was seeing a plan come together.
Weiss nodded "The only problem would be for us to time our attacks and to not get in each other's way. Which we know can be a problem."
Ruby groaned "Ugh, we need more team training. But we need to be good for Wednesday to fight Pyrrha… We don't have the time." Ruby dropped her head and her shoulders sagged at that thought.
Yang patted Ruby shoulder "While I'm very happy with being the target of all of Pyrrha's attention, if we keep her off balance then we should be able to whittle down her aura. She is only one person and shouldn't be able to track all four of us."
Blake hummed "I wonder, we will have to keep Pyrrha off balance, but we can't let her focus on one of us. Standard strategy for fighting multiple opponents is to target one until they are down and keep away from the rest. Or take attacks of opportunity while not committing to a real fight." Blake did wonder what Pyrrha actually knew of fighting multiple opponents.
The rest of team RWBY hummed as well to Blake's point. Weiss did briefly wonder from where Blake would know such strategies.
"We should be able to keep attacking her which should stop Pyrrha from attacking us. The problem would be Pyrrha's semblance." Ruby said much to the surprise of her teammates. You didn't often hear such a sobering thing from Ruby.
Weiss groaned into her hands, Pyrrha's semblance. She had no plan for that. How could they use their metal weapons with Pyrrha having the ability to manipulate metal with her semblance. Weiss did wonder if Pyrrha would even use it much during their fight.
From what Weiss knew Pyrrha used her semblance on a very small scale, to only tweak or shift the direction of attacks coming at her. "How strong is Pyrrha's semblance? Maybe she can only use it to do minor manipulation like what she did with Jaune's shield."
Ruby and Blake sighed while Yang had a thought. "If it comes to it I can take my gauntlets off and fight her barehanded. That may even surprise Pyrrha and let me get in a hit or two on her."
Ruby tilted her head, it was a good idea, Yang would be just as strong, but she would lose the ability to shoot at Pyrrha and more importantly the ability to block Pyrrha's sword or spear with her gauntlets. It would be a worse case scenario plan.
As they neared the cafeteria Ruby came to a realization of what their best plan would be, but would it even be an option. "The best thing we could do is to force Pyrrha out of bounds, but I think we won't be able to do that…"
Weiss, Yang and Blake all nodded, "Yeah, it will most likely be a till low aura type of spar…" Weiss commented while thinking about what the spar could be.
Yang groaned loudly at that news, she wasn't all that psyched about fighting Pyrrha all out so soon after getting stomped by her. But needs must.
Blake shook her head, it definitely sounded more simple than it would be, keeping Pyrrha off balance while attacking. It would work, but could they pull it off?
Weiss nodded to herself "Right, tomorrow we will need to work on team attacks. We need to make sure that we don't get in each other's way or Pyrrha will use that against us." Weiss now had a determined look on her face. She didn't get to train with Pyrrha often so she would take advantage of it. And show Pyrrha how good they, she, was.
- Scene Break -
As team RWBY walked into the cafeteria they saw team JNPR at a far table eating dinner. Ruby smiled and dashed towards them. Ruby sat down opposite to Jaune, she greeted them and looked for her team. Yang and Blake were making their way to the hot foods lines and Weiss was walking towards her.
After everyone on team RWBY got their food and began eating the conversation moved towards what kind of training team RWBY was doing. Weiss made sure no one from her team answered that and Yang added to Weiss efforts by joking around.
"Yup, that's right, our only plan is for me to have all your attention Pyrrha." Yang said and nearly purred out Pyrrha's name. Yang then winked at a lightly chuckling Pyrrha. "Don't you think all the guys would be dying to see that." Yang finished by winking at Jaune.
After a moment of laughter Nora started on what team JNPR did during the day and spent some time on the benefits of Ren's thighs, legs and hands. Pyrrha chuckled at that, Nora was in such a good mood after resting on Ren's lap.
During Nora's teasing of Pyrrha and how comfortable she looked laying on top of Jaune, everyone's scrolls alerted simultaneously. It was the alert for a teacher message.
Everyone pulled out their scrolls and looked for the message, Ruby was first to open it and made a confused noise. That pulled everyone's attention to her.
"What's up?" asked Yang.
Ruby looked up from her scroll "It's the message from Goodwitch we were waiting for."
"So what does it say?" Yang asked while Weiss, Ren and Pyrrha opened up their scrolls.
"Um, Goodwitch congratulates everyone on getting to and completing their midterms. She also wishes the third and fourth years luck on their missions." Ruby said trying to summarize the message without missing details.
"For the first years Goodwitch says that she is pleased to introduce the training week schedule." Ruby said confused "I thought we had the week free."
"I guess it was no classroom classes, but we still need to attend the training sessions?" Jaune said wondering.
Pyrrha was also wondering, this didn't happen last time either, Goodwitch never sent out a schedule for the week after midterms. Last time it was just a week off. What was happening? Where were these changes coming from? Did they have something to do with the changes in the midterms review classes? And the midterms themselves?
Did Ozpin or someone else also get a vision? If so, why did they leave her alone, they would have to know that she was making changes. Or was it something else entirely? Was her wondering if this world was her old world right?
"So what will we be doing during the week? We had plans right?" asked Nora looking around the table.
Weiss hummed reading the message as Ruby started going through the schedule that Goodwitch sent. "Well according to the schedule we have that obstacle course tomorrow noon till 4. Tuesday we have something called Field training from 9 till 2. Wednesday we have Tactics training from 8 till noon. Thursday is bot sparring from 1 till 6 and Friday is team sparring from 1 till 5."
Yang and Nora groaned in unison. Jaune sighed. Ren nodded reading the message over again.
"Sounds like a busy week." Pyrrha said as she looked over the message herself.
Weiss sighed, there will be less time to get ready for their spar with Pyrrha. Luckily it looked like most of the training sessions were only 4 hours and the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions were in the morning. So they still had some time to get ready.
They all talked about the upcoming week and which training sessions sounded the most interesting.
Jaune was generally looking forward to the training sessions, they all sounded interesting and helpful. Hopefully he wouldn't make his team look bad.
They all finished their dinners and made their way back to their rooms, still talking about the sessions and what field training could be. Ruby and Jaune basically agreed that it would be either running around outside or some sort of simulated Grimm fights. Yang and Nora both hoped that it would be fighting actual Grimm.
"You never know, they could send us to the forest and have us fight Grimm." Nora said as she skipped along beside Ren. She was holding one of his hands and swinging their arms as they walked.
"It is a possibility, but I don't think it would be something that Goodwitch would plan. Though maybe Ozpin or Port planned it and Goodwitch has to come with us?" Pyrrha said as she walked beside Jaune, one of her arms looped with one of his. Jaune nodded to what she said and Pyrrha smiled.
"It would be awesome if we could fight actual Grimm so soon after starting Beacon. I want to see how much stronger and more ass-kicking great I got." Yang said with a smirk as she walked beside Blake. Yang was embracing the partner closeness that team JNPR was doing and had an arm around Blake's shoulders. Much to Blake's annoyance.
Blake grumbled as they walked, any slight move she made to get away from being under Yang's arm had Yang tightening her grip. Blake with a sideways glare at Yang stopped trying to get out and turned her glare to Pyrrha. Who she blamed for this. Pyrrha being all touchy with Jaune somehow caused Yang to increase her own touchyness.
"I guess we will just have to wait and find out." Weiss said walking beside Ruby, not holding her partner unlike everyone else. She was also pointedly avoiding Ruby's puppy pout about not holding her.
Ruby was sending Weiss the full power of her puppy pout and sad eyes, much to Yang's delight. But Weiss kept turning her head away. So Ruby decided to follow Pyrrha's example, something that Weiss had to approve of. With a very sly, for Ruby, smile she used her semblance to dash half a step closer and wrap her arm around Weiss's waist.
Weiss squawked and wiggled, but Ruby was stronger and she couldn't get out. Weiss turned to glare at Ruby's happy face and shared a look of deep understanding with Blake. These sisters were just too much at times.
Team JNPR and Yang laughed at Ruby's proud expression and happy smile and at Weiss's grumbling.
Ruby turned to Weiss "It's your own fault Weiss, didn't you say we needed to get closer as partners and as a team to beat Pyrrha?" Ruby said. She made her point by squeezing Weiss even more into her side.
Weiss wiggle again "I didn't mean close like this, I meant that we need to be closer as a team, so that we know how we all move while fighting, so that we don't get in each other's way."
Yang laughed and Blake gave a deep sigh as Yang squeezed her shoulders.
Pyrrha shook her head and felt the happiness and lightness of this moment, of the whole day fill her, of the whole weekend. It had probably been the best weekend of her whole life. Good friends, fun times, no stress. Just a happy relaxing weekend… most of which was spent with Jaune… Out in Vale, on a 'date', relaxing on top of him.
After a few moments they all made it to their rooms and said bye to each other as they walked into their rooms. Team RWBY had some more strategizing to do and team JNRP went back to relaxing. A few hours of team time later both teams got ready for bed. The week will be a busy one.
Yang thankfully for Blake didn't push sleeping together beyond a joke and team RWBY got ready for bed, very tired after a day of training and Weiss directed strategizing.
Ruby let out a sigh as she snuggled into her pillow finally being able to relax without Weiss rounding on her with more questions. She wondered if Pyrrha was feeling even a bit of the amount of stress that Weiss was going through. And in turn the amount that Weiss was making them feel. Probably not.
Weiss pressed her face into her pillow and let out a deep breath feeling her shoulders relax. She knew that she was working herself up about the fight with Pyrrha. Weiss knew that Pyrrha wouldn't care if she won or not. But Weiss did feel the need to make up for her bad loss against Pyrrha. And Weiss also felt that deeper need to prove herself, to show people what she was capable of.
And anytime she had to go against Pyrrha… that need just got worse. Weiss tried to follow some breathing exercises that Ren talked about and felt them working a bit. She sunk into her pillow and bed and began to drift off.
Pyrrha almost purred as she snuggled into Jaune's chest. This really was the best way to end a great weekend. Jaune, much to Pyrrha's joy, wasn't wearing a shirt and Pyrrha could feel his soft warm skin and firm muscles below. Pyrrha wrapped her arms tighter around Jaune and wondered about the upcoming week.
Pyrrha would be out of her depth during the week since it didn't happen before. She was reasonable sure that she would have no problems, but would any of the training sessions be bad for Jaune? From the sound of them they shouldn't, but she would be ready.
Jaune felt Pyrrha snuggle even more into his chest. He could feel Pyrrha's boobs press into him and because she was wearing a short tank top he could also feel the warm skin of her firm stomach press against his. Jaune wondered how it happened that he spent most of the day with Pyrrha either laying on him or against him.
Jaune was honestly enjoying the feeling too much to question it, but…
- Scene Break -
Monday morning came too soon for Pyrrha and she groaned into Jaune's chest as Jaune turned off his alarm. Pyrrha felt Jaune running his hand through her hair, down then lifting his hand moving it back up and down again. It was a calming petting and Pyrrha really wanted to go back to sleep.
Pyrrha felt her legs tangled with Jaune's, his other hand resting on her waist and his big thing pressing against her thigh. It was all something she got very used to and at the same time it felt very new. Pyrrha enjoyed feeling everything though, each morning, very much.
Pyrrha did wonder what Jaune would do if she took that step and started kissing him or if she started licking his neck or chest. Jaune smelled great, to her, and she wondered how he tasted. Which was a slightly weird thought that caught Pyrrha off-guard for a moment.
After some reassurance from Jaune that as soon as it was possible Pyrrha could go back to snuggling with him. Not something Jaune ever thought he would be saying. Team JNPR got ready for the day and through a coincidence met up with team RWBY on the stairs going down.
Both teams walked into the cafeteria, had a large breakfast where an argument was started about the obstacle course and how the training would look like.
Jaune was pretty sure that there would be some team aspect of the training, maybe a relay race type thing. Weiss was sure that with only four hours there wouldn't be time for individual and team runs unless it was a time average. And there was the fact that none of Goodwitch's training before was team training.
Pyrrha smiled into her coffee as Jaune and Weiss argued, egged on by Yang and Nora. She wondered if Jaune still had the same feelings for Weiss as he did before. Based on the last week it didn't seem so. But she would have to keep an eye on them.
After a long breakfast they had an hour until the start of the training session, so they changed and made their way outside and to where the obstacle course was set up. They only had to wait for a short time. Pretty soon all the first years were waiting and Goodwitch made her way down right at time.
Goodwitch went over the rules of the training, which were different than what both Jaune or Weiss thought. Everyone would run the course with their partners, they would start together and have to finish together. Everyone would also have to complete the course under a certain time. And everyone also had to run the course in their full combat outfit and with weapons out.
That last part caused some confusion and worry. Some people had pretty big or unwieldy weapons. Like Cardin. Ruby also pondered how to run the course with Crescent Rose.
Goodwitch sighed as she finished explaining the rules and called up the first pair. She had to wonder why Ozpin made up this training for the first years. This whole week was something of a question of why. Why was Ozpin focusing so much on the first years?
She also cursed Ozpin for making it her job to conduct all the first year training sessions this week. She was looking forward to a week off, where she could get some other things done. But no, Ozpin had an idea and Port and Bart approved the plan also. So here she was stuck.
The first few pairs made it across in reasonably good times, nothing special, but nothing that needed a lot of work. The next pair up would either be good or destroy the course.
Nora and Ren got themselves ready, Ren already ruled out using Nora's hammer to just fly over the course. He was doubtful if Goodwitch would accept that. Nora sighed loudly, but accepted.
On a green flag they started. The first obstacle was 20 meters or so of uneven ground and tripping hazards. They passed that no problem, Nora even ran with her weapon in hand. After that was a jump up to a balance beam then some tires. They had to step in each one to pass the section. Ren had no problems and Nora only wobbled once.
After came a wooden wall they had to climb up which wasn't an issue either. Ren shot up and used the rope at the top to pull himself over. He then pull Nora over when she jumped up to catch his hand. They then jumped down and ran on muddy ground around a corner where they had to go tree to tree and end up at a chest high wall.
It was then up on the wall and to a rope which they needed to use to swing across a pool of thick mud. They did that in a way that Ren was not overly happy with. Nora wrapped an arm around his waist, pulled him to her and swung them both across.
Once on the other side it was more tires, up a series of platforms, down uneven stairs and up another higher wall. The wall thankfully had ropes down it. And when they pulled themselves up there was a zip line down to the ground. Nora laughed and used her hammer's handle to go down. Ren used his guns, hoping that he wouldn't cut the rope.
Back down on the ground was another corner of trees, walls and at the end a jump up to another, uneven this time, balance beam. At the end of the beam was a rope swing, this time up to a higher platform, so it was tricky. Ren managed to do it first time. Nora had to swing herself again and catch Ren's hand to get up to the platform. Not being able to use her grenades was annoying.
It was then a jump down and the next bit was crawling through bushes, under wooden planks and finally a longer section crawling under metal razor wire. Nora had a slight issue with her hammer and Ren's hair and clothes kept getting snagged by the razor wire as they made it through.
Finally it was up one more wall, down some uneven steps and to a rope to swing to the finish.
As Nora and Ren landed at the finish Goodwitch called out that they had the fastest time of the day so far. Nora smiled at Ren and pulled him into a hug. Ren hugged Nora back and the happy pair made their way over to Pyrrha and Jaune.
The day continue with some partners not being able to make it in time and others not being able to make it at all. The needed to rerun the course until they made it under the required time. Fortunately for them they could relax until other pairs went.
Ruby and Weiss finished the course in a pretty good time, unfortunately for them they were not the tallest and didn't have the best upper body strength. So the two taller walls were done with the help of semblances. Which Goodwitch said nothing about. Weiss also got her hair snagged multiple times in the bushes and on the wire. Ruby got her cloak snagged as well.
Yang and Blake almost tied Nora and Ren's time which was still the fastest. Both athletic girls breezed through the course, have no issue with any of the walls, rope swings, or running sections. Yang did have an issue with the crawling section where her hair got snagged on the razor wire. Which she was not happy about and might have tore some of the wire apart.
Towards the end of the session Pyrrha and Jaune had their turn and finished the course in a respectable time. Jaune had a couple issues with the uneven balance beam and getting up the higher wall quickly. Pyrrha helped in pulling him up and Jaune helped her back by suggesting that they use their shields to cover their heads and backs when they crawled under the wire. Jaune also nearly tripped multiple times during the tire sections.
Overall Goodwitch was pretty happy with what she saw, the pairs helped each other out and some of them even planned for the run. Or could think on their feet. For several pairs she had to make them run the course again to get them to meet the time requirement. And finally she let some pairs do the run without their weapons or armour.
At the end of the session Goodwitch stepped up "Good work most of you, some of you may need to rethink some things. Can anyone guess the reason that we had you run this course?"
Weiss raised her hand and Goodwitch picked her "The course simulated some scenarios we could encounter on our missions or in the wild."
Goodwitch nodded "Yes, you never know what you may encounter while on a mission or what you may have to do. You need to be ready for it and know what advantages and disadvantages your weapons and armour give you."
Goodwitch dismissed everyone and everyone made their way to either their rooms or to free change rooms to shower. Then most went for dinner. While others relaxed or tried to get ready for tomorrow.
After dinner both team JNPR and team RWBY went back to their rooms still talking about the obstacle course and guessing what field training could be.
Back in their room Weiss wanted her team to go over the plan to fight Pyrrha again and they booked some time in a training room in the evening.
Across the hall Pyrrha asked Jaune, Nora and Ren if they had any ideas of how to fight 4 people at the same time. Pyrrha was curious about what they would say and if they had any ideas that she didn't already think of. Though she knew that there was one easy way to win. She just had to use her semblance.
Jaune thought about it "You could use your semblance to make sure that their attacks with their weapons don't hit you. Then maybe target Weiss first, she could be trouble with her semblance. After her maybe Yang and then Blake and Ruby…"
Nora hummed "Or keep in the middle and have them hit each other?"
Ren nodded "Yes, keep them off balance and target them one by one. Yang would probably have to be last."
Pyrrha smiled, all good ideas and ones she thought about, she was about to ask about if her team had any ideas about Ruby semblance when Jaune cut her off.
"What about bringing some metal rope or bands with you, with your semblance you could use them as extra defense. Or even use them to tie up Yang or Weiss or a moment?" Jaune said thinking about who to keep on team RWBY distracted somehow.
Pyrrha's eyes shot open, that was an idea, but she didn't know if she would be able to control metal rope while fighting at the same time. "That may be something I could try…" Pyrrha said.
Nora and Ren agreed with the idea, if Pyrrha could do it. Pyrrha decided to try it tomorrow.
The rest of the evening went by quickly and everyone fell asleep pretty quickly. Since tomorrow would be an early morning.
- Scene Break -
Tuesday morning was an early one which found the teams gathering by the Bullhead landing pads at 7:30, much to Pyrrha's annoyance. Which was something that was starting to become a thing for her. Pyrrha was feeling less and less happy about having to get out of bed in the early mornings when she was in Jaune's arms.
Waking up in Jaune's arms, being all warm and comfortable, feeling his arms around her or petting her or rubbing her. It was a deeply great thing. And Pyrrha was becoming more and more unhappy about having to leave it. Plus the feeling of holding Jaune, feeling his body under or beside her, cozied up against her. It was just a great feeling.
Pyrrha sighed as she leaned against Jaune's side watching the rest of the first years show up. Most of them were talking about what today's training session would look like. Yang was very happily saying that she was right and that the training was actually hunting real Grimm. Some of the others looked unhappy if that was the case.
Goodwitch made her way to the landing pads a few minutes later and she was joined by Port which made a wave of groans come from the students. Pyrrha groaned along with everyone else and pressed her face deeper into Jaune's shoulder. She felt Jaune wrap and arm around her back and pat her shoulder.
The last Port lead training was okay, but having to deal with Port while out of class was just wrong…
A little while later Goodwitch and Port gathered everyone around them "Okay, for today's training exercise we will be going to the Emerald Forest where you all will be split into teams containing 8 people. So two teams will have to work together." Goodwitch paused looking over her students and seeing a look of joy grow on Port's face.
"Your mission is to get from where you were dropped off to the gathering point by the cliff, the location coordinates will be uploaded to your scrolls. You all will start at 9AM on the dot and have until 2PM to make it to the gathering point." Goodwitch paused again making sure that everyone was paying attention to her instructions.
"During this training you all will have your scroll's locator enabled and you will all have your aura meter activated as well. Anyone who turns off either will be punished. If any teams gets in trouble then we will rescue you. Teams can also activate their distress signal for rescue or pickup." Goodwitch continued to lay out the rules.
"Remember your mission is to make it to the gathering point, not to hunt Grimm, but all of you will need to deal with any Grimm you encounter along the way. Once time runs out then you will need to stop where you are and wait for pickup." Goodwitch said trying to ignore Port's wide smile.
"Any questions?" Goodwitch asked and looked around, no hands came up. "Very well, everyone report to me when your team is called for your team assignments. Once you are teamed up, load on to your assigned Bullhead."
Teams were called up and formed and through luck or maybe some manipulation, teams RWBY and JNPR were teamed up. Goodwitch looked quite annoyed while assigning them as a team. So it might have been manipulation.
A flight later and both teams were jumping out of the Bullhead to their start point.
Pyrrha landed with the rest of her team once team RWBY made space. She took a look around the quiet forest and then focused on Jaune who walked over to Ruby and were now comparing notes.
Ruby smiled at Jaune as they read through the message from Goodwitch. Their first mission since the entry test. Ruby was excited, though she hoped that they wouldn't have to fight elder Grimm this time. That her and Jaune's teams were paired up was fortunate. She didn't think that her team would work well with any other team.
Jaune nodded as Pyrrha came over to him with a questioning look on her face. She asked "So?"
"The route doesn't look too hard, we should be able to make it in a few hours. This most tricky bits look to be crossing a river, not getting turned around in the thicker part of the forest and making it through this rocky part which may have a gully." Jaune said as he pointed out each tricky part on the map to everyone.
"I'll share the route with everyone. I think we will need at least two people that can read a map and navigate with a compass." Jaune said as he shared the route and looked around.
Yang shrugged, she wasn't the best at map reading, but she had pretty good sense of direction. Blake and Ren also volunteered as they both knew their way around a map and compass.
Ruby nodded "Okay, we have a few minutes before 9, so strategy time?"
The rest smiled at Ruby who stepped in front of both teams and was smiling shakily at everyone. Yang cooed at her adorable sister taking charge.
"So what's your idea Ruby?" Jaune asked curious at what Ruby could be thinking.
"Well, my plan is you and Pyrrha form the center, Yang and Nora can form the front, Weiss can be the rear, Blake and Ren can take the wings and I can move between the rear and the wings." Ruby laid out with a calmer voice than anyone expected.
Jaune agreed with Ruby's team formation. It made sense though he would have put Pyrrha as a center front and let her drift depending on what was happening.
The rest agreed as well with Yang rubbing her sister's head saying what a good job Ruby did. Ruby fought her off using high speed slaps.
9 hit and with a Go message from Goodwitch they started on their mission.
The first 30 minutes or so was quiet, they encountered a small pack of Beowolves and then a single Ursa which were dealt with pretty quickly by Yang and Nora. With cover fire from the rest. As a pair of Boarbatusk dissolved they reached their first large obstacle, the river.
Jaune looked over the river, it was wider than he thought and potentially deeper as well. Thankfully the river was slow moving. As he looked upstream and downstream Jaune couldn't see any better place to cross. He turned to Ruby.
"Can you jump high enough to see more of the river?" Jaune asked.
Ruby nodded excitedly "Come on Weiss, you can place your glyphs up that tree and I can run up it and use my semblance to get high enough." Weiss agreed with her plan and placed the glyphs up a tree that had no branches until the very top.
With loud encouragement from Nora and Yang, Ruby ran up and using her semblance flew to above the tree tops. Ruby looked around and saw no better place to cross. Further downstream the river was a lot faster moving and further upstream it looked the same as it was here.
Ruby landed and shook her head while relaying what she saw.
Jaune hummed, some of them could jump over the river, but the rest couldn't and he did not want to use so much of Nora's grenades to get them all across. Yang would also need to use a bunch of her ammo to get everyone across. Jaune turned to Weiss.
"Hey Weiss, you think that if you freeze the surface of the river, it would be able to hold us?" Jaune asked.
Weiss didn't know, she never tried to freeze a moving river before. "I'm not sure, the ice may break from the riverbank and be taken by the current. And if I freeze the river to its full depth then the ice would act like a dam and the river would overflow its banks." Weiss said thinking about a solution as well.
Jaune nodded thinking, since freezing the river wasn't an option that left them with those who could carrying the rest over. Or, he did have some high tensile strength cord in his backpack. That cord could work as a rope-line they could use to get over…
"Okay, I see three options: One, Yang, Nora, Weiss and Ruby can use their weapons and semblances to carry the rest of us over to the other side. Two, since the river is slow moving we could wade or swim over. And three we can use this cord to make a rope line from one tree to another and make it across that way." Jaune said as he pulled a length of cord from his backpack.
Everyone thought about the options while Pyrrha smiled widely at Jaune taking charge. It happened rarely, but when it did Pyrrha could not stop the feeling of excitement that grew in her.
Ruby and Weiss weren't sure if they would be able to hold anyone heavier and Yang wasn't sure about how well she would be able to control the flight. She didn't normally use her weapons that way. Nora was counting how many grenades she had and felt a bit sad about using so many and having less to kill Grimm.
After a moment of discussion the rope line option was chosen and both teams began to set it up. Blake ran up one tree holding one end of the cord. While Ruby flew over to the other side of the river and climbed the other tree holding the other end. Weiss used her semblance to freeze the cord to the trees and the rope line was finished in a few minutes.
While the others on her team were building Yang poked her head into Jaune's backpack. "What else do you have in here?" She asked.
Jaune smiled "Um, the cord, waterproof matches, fire starter fluid, a thermal blanket, a compass, a tarp, some beef jerky, energy bars, dried fruits, water and sports drinks, a multi-tool and a towel." He said to a smiling Pyrrha and a blinking Yang.
"Why bring all of it for a few hour training sessions?" Yang asked a bit confused.
Jaune scratched the back of his head, "Well, it said field training and my dad always said to make sure that you are ready to spend the night in any field. So I, umm, packed for that…"
Pyrrha's smile grew due to Jaune's adorableness and she pulled him into her side. "That's great thinking Jaune, we will have a much easier time because of everything you packed." Ren nodded as well. Nora and Yang perked up at hearing that Jaune had food.
Once the rope line was ready everyone that needed to climbed the tree and made it over without too much difficulty. Jaune had a bit of a shaky trip, but he managed to make it over without falling in the river.
A hour and a half later, past 11 the team was just getting out of the dense part of the forest. It was as Jaune said, very dense, with no easy paths and completely shaded. The going was slow and careful with Jaune using his actual compass instead of the app on this scroll. Just to make sure that they didn't get turned around.
Blake's sense of direction helped out a lot as well as she could keep them going in the general direction while Jaune, Ruby and Ren worked out the specific direction they had to go as they detoured around impassable bushes and tangles of trees. Yang and Weiss kept a look out during the map checking.
The good thing though was that during their entire journey through the dense part of the forest they only encounter one very lost Ursa which was killed before it could even react. The combination of shots from Nora, Yang, Blake, Weiss, Ren and Pyrrha just tore it apart. Jaune felt kind of bad for it.
As they looked around the sparsely wooded part of the forest they were in now, Ruby's, Nora's and Yang's stomachs began to growl. They looked at each other and laughed. "So, Jaune, about that food you have?" Yang said.
So a few minutes later found the teams sitting on the tarp the Jaune pulled out of his backpack, eating the beef jerky, dried fruit and energy bars. Ren also pulled out a packet of mixed nuts he had.
Weiss had to blink at the situation, here she was in the Emerald Forest having a picnic. Ruby as laughing with Nora due to a joke a very pleased looking Yang said. Blake without anyone noticing took all the nuts and dried fruits. Pyrrha was, like always now, leaning against Jaune's side eating some jerky. Jaune himself was showing Ren something on his scroll.
The day was nice, with just a few clouds in the sky, it was still warm and pleasant without being too hot. And Weiss was blaming Pyrrha and Jaune for this as well. Ever since Pyrrha had her vision and started to act weird, it seemed like everything around them went weird as well. And poor Weiss had to suffer through it.
A picnic in the middle of a Grimm infested forest, during a training session… Weiss sighed at her continuingly weirder life. She nibbled on some of the dried fruits she stole from Blake when Blake was distracted by Yang.
10 minutes after their pleasant picnic the team encountered their first large group of Grimm. A large pack of Beowolves with what looked like two Alphas and three Ursas. The teams fell into their formation and the fight began.
Yang and Nora each went for the larger Alpha Beowolves while Ruby, Ren and Blake went for the rest of the pack. Pyrrha and Jaune were rushed by the Ursas and Weiss provided support where she could.
Yang punched the Alpha Beowolf as hard as she could in the face, cracking its face mask and causing it to stagger backwards. The Beowolf roared and swiped at Yang while it steadied itself. Yang smirked and shot at its neck while punching it in its chest twice, hearing cracking with each hit. She then kicked it, forcing the heavily damaged Grimm back towards a bush. Yang jumped after the Beowolf.
A few meters to the right Nora smacked the Alpha Beowolf she was fighting in the side of its head with her hammer. The mighty smack snapped the Beowolf's neck to the right and left the Grimm completely off-balance. As the Beowolf found its footing Nora hit it with a devastating downwards swing. The swing hit the Beowolf's right shoulder and sent the Grimm crashing to the ground. Nora laughed and swung her hammer down again.
Across the ways a bit Ruby slashed a Beowolf in half as she dodged the claws of another Beowolf. She spun around and with her next slash she cut the Beowolf's arm off. It roared and rushed towards her to bite her. Ruby dodged the bite and dashed to the back of it. With a quick upwards slash she killed another Beowolf. Ruby then dashed to another one coming up behind Ren.
Ren ducked under the claws of the Beowolf attacking him. He then sprung up and shot at it while he maneuvered under it's arm and to the backside of the Grimm. Once there he slashed at it using his blades. A hop up later had Ren cutting the head off the Beowolf. Ren then turned to shoot at another Beowolf that was rushing him. He spotted Ruby coming down on that Beowolf with her scythe cutting it in half. He nodded at a smiling Ruby.
Blake jumped off a dissolving Beowolf after she cut it's head off and landed, ducking under the swing of another one. She then dodged to the left and shot at it, as the Beowolf went for another swing Blake twisted around it's arm and with a slash cut it off. As the Beowolf roared Blake stabbed the Beowolf in the back and cut down to its waist. The Beowolf crumpled to the ground and started to dissolve. Blake rolled her shoulder and jumped at another Beowolf, one of the few remaining.
Towards the center of the clearing they were in, Pyrrha ducked under the swing of the third Ursa's arm. Behind her the first Ursa that attacker her was dissolving. Pyrrha then transformed her sword into a spear and slashed the Ursa that was attacking her now. It staggered back and Pyrrha used that to send a series of stabs at it. As the Ursa roared and swung it's arm up to attack her, Pyrrha stabbed her spear through the Ursa's head. Her spear coming into it's head from the bottom of the jaw. A flick of her wrist had her spear cutting the Ursa's head in half.
As Pyrrha dispatched her second Ursa Jaune blocked an attack from the one he was fighting. The Ursa's claws scraped against his shield. Jaune used that moment to stab the Ursa twice before it reared back and sent a another swing of it's claws at him. Jaune just managed to dodged and slashed the Ursa in the side. Jaune got very lucky on the Ursa's next swing and managed to deflect it's arm with his strangely moving shield. Now in a good position he stabbed the Ursa in the neck. Killing it.
Jaune sent a smile at Pyrrha who was jogging over to him.
Weiss looked from Jaune's dissolving Ursa to one of the last Beowolf's that was attacking her. She slashed at it's arm and hopped back, sending a stream of ice at it. The Beowolf snarled and rushed her, trying to catch her with it's claws. Weiss dodged and used a glyph to jump over the Beowolf, and with a well timed slash she cut it's head off and landed to look around.
Weiss could see that Pyrrha and Jaune dealt with the Ursas, Nora and Yang were just finished with their Alpha Beowolves and the rest of the pack was being cut down by Ruby, Blake and Ren. She smiled and walked over to Pyrrha who was telling Jaune some pointers on how to use shield deflections to get into better positions.
Weiss stopped by Pyrrha and responded to her nod with a smile. "That was quite the pack of Beowolves. Two Alphas don't happen often." Weiss commented.
Pyrrha nodded "Yes, the fight went well for us. We managed to give Yang and Nora the space and time to deal with the Alphas."
Jaune was just happy he defeated his Ursa with minimal help from Pyrrha.
After everyone gathered they drank the last of the sports drink and continued on their journey talking about the fight they just had. Blake and Ren were a bit surprised how well they fought together. Nora and Yang were psyched at how well they fought together, bragging about how awesome their switch attacks were.
They reached their last obstacle in a pretty good time, they could even see the cliff where the gathering point was. Jaune estimated that they would be able to make it to their goal with 45 minutes to spare. The rocky, muddy terrain didn't look too bad, it would just be slow going.
The team cautiously made their way through the slippery rocks and muddy ground. It wasn't anything too difficult, but Ruby need to hold onto Yang here and there. And a badly placed foot caused Jaune to almost fall into the mud. Only a last minute grab from Pyrrha and Yang who were on either side of Jaune saved him.
Yang herself almost slipped in the mud during a descent down a hill, Pyrrha catching her jacket saved her hair from a very muddy fate. Ruby and Weiss caught each other while Blake caught both of them during their slip, when the muddy ground gave out from under their feet.
Though on a hilarious note during their very slow descent down the hill they saw an Ursa a little ways away slip in the mud and slide down the whole hill. Hitting rocks all the way down. When it came to a rest at the bottom of the hill it started to dissolve.
Nora laughed so hard that only Ren and Jaune catching her saved her from the mud and rocks.
The gully that Jaune saw on the map was thankfully very small where they were, so apart from having to walk through some deeper mud, there were no real issues.
A few slips and near falls later found the team reaching the end of the mud and rocks. Their shoes, boots, socks and lower pants were ruined. Just caked in mud.
Weiss groaned as she shook the mud off one of she shoes, using Ruby's shoulder to keep her balance. Ruby even wrapped an arm around Weiss's waist when Weiss almost slipped herself while taking her shoe off.
Jaune dug into his backpack and pulled out the towel he had. He gave it to Weiss who used it to clean off her shoes the best she could. Ruby then grabbed it to clean off her shoes. Then the towel made its way around and when Jaune finally got it back it was just coated with mud and dirt. Jaune cleaned off his shoes and tied off the cleaner end to a strap on his backpack.
The final part of their journey to the gathering point was smooth sailing. They were only bothered by a couple normal Death Stalkers and a small group of Creeps. All the Grimm were killed pretty easily. Using the now tried and true method of concentrated fire. Followed by Nora lobbing a couple extra grenades if the Grimm was still alive.
Teams RWBY and JNPR made it to the gathering point with 30 minutes to spare. Most of them sat down on Jaune's tarp while he and Ruby walked over to the other team leaders asking about their routes.
Jaune left his backpack so Yang pulled out the last of the jerky and munched on it with Nora and Pyrrha. Ruby and Jaune returned questioning why their teams had the hardest route based on what the other team leaders showed them.
Yang smirked "Well we are the best, so makes sense that we have the hardest route for our training."
Weiss and Blake sighed. Ruby nodded at the surprisingly logical point that Yang made.
Jaune shook his head as he accepted the jerky that Pyrrha was giving him. He just knew that Ozpin or Port were the reason for their route being harder. But he couldn't say that it was a bad thing. Their journey through the forest was pretty fun. And he got to show and use his navigating skills with Ren, Blake, Ruby and Yang. So bonus.
Blake was surprisingly good at navigating and for parts of the journey took the compass from him to lead the way. Jaune wondered if Blake went camping a lot.
30 minutes later the training session was ended and they were loaded up into a Bullhead for the flight back. Pyrrha sighed as she relaxed against the back of her seat. Her lap was filled with Jaune's head. And she was running her hands through his hair. The flight was far bumpier than their morning flight so Jaune was having a bad time.
The rest were talking about the few teams that didn't make it. 1 team had to be rescued due to the bad luck of running into a group of Goliaths. While 2 more ran out of time. Pyrrha was sure there weren't so many teams last time. Though she was happy that she kind of unconsciously knew everyone's names.
Once they landed, Goodwitch and Port congratulated them and they made their way to their rooms to shower and put on clean clothes.
- Scene Break -
The teams said goodbye to each other and entered their rooms. Once showered and cleaned Pyrrha opened the delivery box that was waiting for her. One day delivery was a Gods send. She pulled out to a belt with metal weave through it, two straps made of metal weave and a bandolier also made out of a metal weave.
Pyrrha smiled and looked up at Jaune, "They're here, let's test them out before dinner."
Jaune smiled and checked to see if any training rooms were free. After booking one, team JNPR made their way to the training room. Nora gave Pyrrha ideas on how to use the straps along the way.
Once in the training room Pyrrha put on the straps and belt and faced off against the bot at a medium setting. Pyrrha dodged to the side and using her semblance unclipped the straps and sent both of them at the bot. Concentrating on just the straps let her use them as whips and she was able to wrap the straps around the bot.
Doing the spar again, this time with using her sword and shield and fighting the bot at a higher setting was more difficult to use the straps. Pyrrha could only spare some attention to them as she dodged and attacked. But as the fight progressed she got better and better at using the straps to whip the bot following a slash or to wrap a strap around the bot's legs.
Nora then volunteered to help and so faced off against Pyrrha. Pyrrha thanked her and the spar begun.
Pyrrha found it even more difficult to use the straps as she dodged and blocked Nora's attacks. For a while Pyrrha wasn't able to use them successfully or at all even. But after some time Pyrrha discovered that if she coordinated her attacks, blocks and strap movements with her semblance. She would be able to use them.
Pyrrha wasn't able to anything fancy, but she could use the straps was a whip and she managed to wrap Nora's legs once. Causing Nora to fall to the ground. Nora jumped up with an "Awesome" and attacked her again.
As Pyrrha ended the testing for dinner she was still not able to use the straps as freely as she would have liked during a spar. But the extra whip attacks were useful. She also managed once to catch Nora's hammer with both straps.
Pyrrha resolved to train her semblance far more than she was now. Which was already more than she did last time.
Their dinner was a long one, with the team going over what happened in the forest and how Pyrrha could train. Pyrrha also laid out a new training idea that she had for Jaune. No matter how far behind her Jaune was he still needed to be able to fight beside her. Jaune also might be able to pick something up while fighting with her.
After dinner they made their way to their room to get an early night for tomorrow's training. Jaune laughed a bit as he read a message from Ruby complaining about how much extra training Weiss was making her do to get ready for their spar with Pyrrha.
As they got ready for sleep Jaune and Ren were talking about what Tactics training could be. They assumed that it would be in a classroom, but if today showed them anything, than maybe if might be some spars or something. Pyrrha did agree that it was most likely a classroom thing. But that it may be split. Half theory, half practice.
Like every night this week so far, Pyrrha cozied up against Jaune's side wrapping an arm around his waist. Pressing her face into Jaune's warm chest. Tangling her legs with his. Pyrrha smiled widely and let out a sound of satisfaction.
Pyrrha didn't question why Jaune was still letting her sleep with him, but she was happy he did. Pyrrha knew that they would need to have a talk about sleeping together. Pyrrha also knew that she may not be able to sleep on her own after so many, but too few, night with Jaune.
Pyrrha had a feeling that Jaune was with her on that. He seemed to really like sleep with her and always snuggled closer when he could. She did wonder why Jaune didn't have more of an issue, but that was another thing she was not questioning too much.
Pyrrha fell asleep still smiling, snuggled against Jaune, dreaming of possible future dates.
Jaune fell asleep with very similar thoughts. Feeling Pyrrha snuggle against him was a feeling he never grew tired off. He didn't know if he ever would. Her warm, firm body. Her large boobs. Her smooth, warm skin. It was all just…
Jaune squeezed Pyrrha closer to him.
Chapter Seven End
Hope everyone liked chapter 7.
The next chapter will continue the training sessions and the fight between Pyrrha and team RWBY will happen.
Guess people didn't like the shopping chapter too much. I have to say a thank you since I made 5 bucks because of that.
Once the second part of the semester starts we will be moving faster through the year. We took some time to plan the next few chapters out and we will start making some changes.
Just a continued reminder, this will not be the "Prime" timeline, we are changing when some events happen, as the timeline of show is not clear.
Another massive thank you to HelpingHand for your ideas. You'll see some of them come up in the story.
See everyone in the next chapter.
