Hi, everyone! I'm back and ready to continue this story. Enjoy!
Off the Train
*Thunder and Lightning*
6 A.M.
50 -something, Horace, turned the keys to his car as it turned on ready to prep for another workday at Dumpty's Diner. Usually, he was assisted by Min-Gi Park to prep and open up, but after his mysterious disappearance three months ago he was doing it solo. Sure, he had other employees who could do the job, but in Horace's own words they were garbage compared to Min-Gi. Rumors started to spread that something bad happened to him along with a school friend of his. He admitted he was no help when he first found out the young man was missing, he was more upset that the diner wasn't locked up and the keys were missing from the night before.
Once he parked his car in the parking lot Horace he stepped out into the cold air as raindrops hit him like bullets and the wind was trying to push him away from the diner. Horace clutched his hat and raincoat closer to him as he made the walk to Humpty's Diner.
*BOOM*
A bright light blinded Horace knocking him to his feet and a loud noise blasted his ear drums. Horace shut his eyes and ears until it was all over, and the rain and wind picked up again. Hoarce got up and dusted himself ready dry off inside Humpty's until he saw something in the distance laying on the ground as.
"What in tarnation?" Horace questioned as walked over towards whatever he saw.
The closer he got to the lump in the road he realized it was a lump it was two young men of Asian descent, in fact it was
"Holy Shit!" Horace shouted.
*AMBULANCE SIRENS*
?
"UGH! My head!"
Min-Gi groaned in pain as his head felt like it was hit by a mallet with spikes on fire.
"Min-Gi!"
Min-Gi heard his name as he felt something wet hit his face.
"Min-Gi, please wake up!"
The voice that was calling out to Min-Gi was full of sorrow and sounded so familiar. Min-Gi did his best to open his eyes, only to see blurry figures.
"Oh my God! He's waking up!"
"Can you hear us son? Min-Gi?"
It was his parent's voices; they were calling out for him! Min-Gi used all his strength to open his eyes, as his eyes adjusted from two blurry to his parents! Both hovered above him with tears in their eyes and sad smiles on their faces.
"Mom? Dad?" The words escaped Min's lips in a whisper, unsure if he was dreaming, an illusion fabricated by the train, or if they were his real parents.
"Min-Gi!" His parents cried out as they hugged their only child.
Min couldn't believe it; it was them he was off the train and his parent's hugging him. Min hugged them back tightly as if he was going to lose them. He was with his parents, off the train, and with -
"RYAN!"
Min-Gi cried his best friend's name out. He frantically scanned wherever he was for his friend.
"No, he was right next to me! He couldn't have been left behind! He still can't be on the train!" Min-Gi cried as he clutched his head, tears ran down his face, and thoughts of fear and self-hate entered his mind.
"Min-Gi."
A soft voice spoke as a hand was placed on his shoulder. Min-Gi looked up to see Mrs. Akagi.
"He's right there." Mrs. Akagi gestured to the other side of the room where Ryan was.
Ryan's father, sisters, and brothers moved out of the way so Min could get a good look at Ryan. He was in a very deep sleep since he wasn't snoring, dark circles under his eyes, red glasses missing, and his head was bandaged. Tears flooded Min's vision at the sight of his friends.
"RYAN!"
Min-Gi jumped out of the bed a rushed to Ryan's side as he clutched his hand.
"Ryan, wake up! We did it! We're off the train!" Min-Gi cheered as held Ryan's hand tighter.
Ryan hissed in pain as he clutched his chest, the sight broke Min-Gi's heart to pieces, then Ryan slowly opened his eyes.
"Min, Min-Gi?" Ryan spoke weakly.
"Ryan, you're awake!" Min cried out.
"Where's Kez and Morgan? Are they okay? Where are we?" Ryan questioned.
"Their back home and so are we; We're off the train Ryan." Min-Gi answered.
Ryan gave a low chuckle before his eyes closed and he was fast sleep. Min-Gi crashed soon after due to the rush of adrenaline leaving him. Once, both boys were fast asleep their families began worry.
"Who the heck are Kez and Morgan? And what was this train they were speaking about? " Mrs. Park shouted.
Nobody blamed her for freaking out. The two had been gone for three months with no form of contact, then they were found outside Dumpty's Diner battered and bruised. What the heck happened to them.
" Were they on a train this whole time? Do you think those so-called Kez and Morgan did this to our boys?" Mr. Akagi questioned.
"From their tones, it doesn't seem like that." Mr. Park answered in an unsure voice.
"Well, someone did, and I want to know now!" Mrs. Akagi demanded.
" Excuse me, Nurse Park?" Everyone turned to see a middle-aged man with black hair and black glasses in a lab coat.
"Yes, Dr. Horab?" Mrs. Park spoke.
"I hate to do this to you; everyone might want to take a seat." Dr. Horab began.
"Girls, please take your brothers outside." Mr. Akagi said.
"But, we want to be here when Ryan wakes up!" The fourth child and second boy in the family protested.
"Shut it!" The second daughter hissed at her second younger brother. "This is important."
"We don't want to leave!" The youngest child and boy protested as well.
"Look if I get us some snacks from the vending machine will that make you two less protesty?"The oldest child and daughter questioned.
The Akagi twins pondered for a minute.
"Don't worry, we'll get you both as soon as they wake." Mrs. Park said with a sympathetic smile.
"Okay." The twins agreed as they walked with their sisters to the waiting room.
"So- what's the bad news?" Mrs. Park questioned.
"Well for starters it appears Ryan is recovering from a stab wound." Dr. Horab began.
"What?!" Mr. Akagi shouted as he stood up.
"What do you mean our son was stabbed?" Mrs. Akagi questioned.
Dr. Horab pulled out an x-ray to reveal a broken rib in Ryan's chest. Tears burst from Mrs. Akagi eyes as Mr. Akagi held onto her for comfort. The Park's put comforting hands on them.
"The rib seemed to be fractured luckily we got him here in time and the surgery was a succusses. Any later and the cut wasn't treated he could've gotten an infection or worse." Dr. Horab spoke as he put the x-ray away. " The rib should heal in a month or two and we would like Ryan to come in weekly for check-ups."
The Akagis nodded in response.
"Also, while examining them he found there was multiple bruises on their arms and chest area." Dr. Horab continued. " We also ran a sexual assault kit on them and there was no evidence of assault."
"Oh, thank God!" Mr. Park gasped as he clutched his wife tighter.
" I do suggest they go to therapy and get checkups regularly." Dr. Horab suggested.
"How is therapy supposed to help them?" Mr. Park spatted.
"Yeah! It's just talking to a stranger over nothing." Mr. Akagi agreed.
"Hush!" Mrs. Park silenced the two like ill behaved children.
" I assure you that there are benefits to therapy. And seeing as the two have been gone for three months and the bruises on their bodies there might be things that need to be talked about." Dr. Horab answered in a serious tone.
"What about the cost?" Mrs. Akagi spoke in an embarrassed voice.
The Akagi's were hard working people but raising five kids put a strain on their finances. The hospital bill would take a huge chunk out of their checks, but adding therapy to it and their youngest boys were about to start high school - the thoughts stressed them out.
"We'll handle the cost." Both Mr. and looked up at the Parks.
" No, we can't ask you to do that for us." Mr. Akagi said.
"You don't to ask, we're doing it." Mr. Park clarified.
Mrs. Akagi looked like she was on the verge of crying.
"But, how can we pay you back?" Mrs. Akagi questioned.
"Yui." Mrs. Park began. "There is no need to pay us back. We love Ryan and we can't imagine life without Min-Gi or him. We spent three months worried to death about the both of them and we are not losing them now."
The beaver dam that held Yui's tears collapsed as she wrapped her arms around Mrs. Park's and cried into her shoulder.
"Thank you, Niki. Thank you so much!" Yui continued to cry as Niki hugged her back.
Waiting Room
Naia Akagi waited patiently for her older sister, Allison, to return from the vending machines with snacks for her and her younger brothers. Normally Naia was not a patient woman, she'd rather get things over with as soon as possible. She sat on one of the many uncomfortable chairs in lobby watching as the clock ticked. Her foot tapped impatiently on the hospital tile a signature quirk everyone knew was a sign she was irritated. She always viewed Ryan as loud and whenever he was away with Min-Gi things were quieter (Well, quiet when you have multiple siblings). When Ryan left to ' go on tour' the house was almost silent no loud music on the radio or TV, no strummed guitar strings, and no singing dumb lyrics. Now, she'd do anything to hear those things.
"Don't worry-" One of her brothers spoke. " Allison will be here with the snacks soon."
"It's not the snacks I'm worried about." Naia spoke as her eyes got watery.
The twins looked at each other then back at Naia with worried expressions on their faces.
"I'm back!" Everyone turned to see Allison with a snacks.
"Jeez, Allison, what'cha do rob the vending machines at gun point?" The older twin joked as he got hit by a bag of ketchup chips.
"Shut up. " Allison countered back. "And be glad I'm giving you pickle chips Izaac."
The younger twin did his best to stifle his laughter.
"Shut up, Nick." Izaac grumbled at his twin as he chomped down on his ketchup chips.
Allison handed Nick a bag of all - dressed chips, Naia a coffee crisp bar, and ate her nanaimo bar. The four siblings ate their snacks in silence until Allision needed to throw the wrapper away.
"Damn!" Allison cursed as she got up from her seat knocking her purse on the ground.
Her siblings helped pick up her belongings.
"I thought you hated smarties and ketchup chips, Allison." Naia said as she picked up the snacks and handed them to her sister.
"There not for me it's for when Ryan and Min-Gi." Allison said putting the snacks back in her purse. "They might be hungry when they wake up."
"Yeah, did you see how skinny they were?" Nick asked.
It was true both boys were thin not skeleton thin, but thinner than when they last saw them. Their appearances scared everyone when was the last time they had a decant meal since they mysteriously disappeared? Did they even eat at all?
"The last time we saw Ryan was after graduation." Naia spoke with tears in her eyes. " We haven't seen him in almost a year. Sure, there were calls here and there, and he'd sent postcards from where he's been - God, we suck!"
Naia began to weep as tears and snot ran down her face, her siblings group hugged her doing their best to comfort her, only to fail and cry themselves.
Allison felt terrible despite keeping in touch with her family after she moved out the house into her own apartment for college, Ryan was the one she had the least contact with. Ryan did have her number and would leave messages to her that she ignored or deleted. Her roommates would tell her when Ryan called and would always respond that she'd call him back later. During the first weeks he was gone Ryan would call every Sunday during family dinner and talk to them, over time he called less and at random times. She'd run into Min-Gi from time to time to help her brothers with their homework or whenever she stopped at that fairytale themed diner. To her Min-Gi was just her brother's friend. As soon as the news broke that Ryan and Min-Gi were missing destroyed her. She failed her brothers!
Izaac and Nick were closer to Ryan growing up when they weren't busy driving everyone crazy. Over time Nick mellowed with age while Izaac continued to be a little gremlin and the Ryan spent most of his time with Min-Gi anyway, so they just separated over time. Now here they were together at a frickin hospital!
As soon as those two wake up the Akagi siblings vowed to never let them out of their sight ever again.
Min-Gi and Ryan's Hospital Room
The buzzing sounds of the overhead florescence lights buzzed in Ryan ears as he was slowly waking up. The lights of the florescence bulbs blinded Ryan's eyes as he tried to adjust to the room. Ryan reached his hand out to something red beside him that he assumed was his glasses.
Ryan placed his glasses on to get a better view of where he was. Were Min and him really off the train or was it just all a strange dream? When Ryan turned his head he was greeted by a sleeping Min-Gi.
Min-Gi was knocked out with his hair messy, eyes closed, and chest rising and falling with each breath. Ryan smiled before he drifted back to sleep.
We're off the train.
