Alright guys, as you can see from the title of this update.
I need your help.
While writing the latest chapter of the Fafnir Knight, I ran into a hard snag. I can't go into details without some major spoilers, but despite numerous rewrites and different points of view I tried out to write to make this new chapter work smoothly.
I just couldn't find purchase.
Typically when this happens, I tend to both look at my notes and also reread the story to see where I might have gone wrong. (This had been my usual routine since I started.) Now as most of you know that this story was recently remastered with the hopes of smoothing out the rougher edges of my earlier inexperience as a writer.
While I would say that the remaster was a partial success.
I found that it wasn't enough as I finally figured what was giving me trouble. Now I have also been working on Alexander Springfield's official canon spin-off; My Hero Academia Untold: The Shields of Spring. And that's were it finally clicked.
In short, for all of my planning, I fucked up. To put it simply, there is one more character who had not been introduced yet that I consider critical main character for the sake of this story.
I had planned to introduce her in the next chapter and she is a key competent to the Prologue to the Shields of Spring as the prologue takes place Post-Fafnir Knight.
(A sneak peak to the ending if you will)
Unfortunately, between her introduction (which no matter how hard I try, comes out as quite forced) and a few other key things related to the plot.
I realized...I needed a few more chapters to iron out these issues.
Here the problem.
Some of those new chapters take place in Arcs I and II.
Between the pain in the ass that is the method to place new chapters without causing general confusion to new readers and frustrating older readers who might miss this little side update.
I feel like I would need to do a soft reset of the whole story.
One of the biggest complains that the remasters couldn't fix was that some chapters were excessively large, and it could (understandably) get quite exhausting to read several long chapters were details can get lost in the middle of a lot of text.
A soft reset would allow me the ability to insert the new chapters where they need to be. (This includes at least with one or two more chapters with Hisashi being alive) At least two more chapters in Arc II, Plus making the USJ event that would be split from two chapters into four shorter but more concise chapters. Arc III would also get some new stuff and the Golden week chapters would also get a similar split like the USJ.
Unlike the first reboot, where a ton of stuff got overhauled. This soft reset would start us back from the beginning, but considering that more than 80% of the work is basically already done for me. It wouldn't take long for the story to update and get back right where we left off at the Sports Festival.
It would mean, losing all of my kudos/votes/ follows/favorites (which is painful, because of how close I was to finally reaching 1K follows on FFN.) And I also have no doubts that going this route would like cause me to lose several readers out of frustration. (again, understandable)
But I will always strive for quality, I don't care if it's just fan fiction. I will continue to live my personal creed as a writer. If you take the time to read my stuff. I am obligated to always give you the best quality of work to try and make it worthy of your time.
Next, Draco Knight will also be getting the soft reset treatment as I have a brand new prologue in mind that will make it's planned epilogue fit perfectly.
Finally, should this option be chosen. The soft reboot of the Untold Universe will begin with the simultaneous release of all three stories of the main Untold Universe.
The Fafnir Knight
Draco Knight
The Shields of Spring
All three will have their new prologues released on the same day. From that point, Draco Knight and Shield will only update when The Fafnir reaches key points. (Just like before) The difference here is that those will always be double uploads.
So if there is a Draco Knight update, there will also be a new Fafnir Knight update on the same day. This will also apply to Shields of Spring, that will also be accompanied with a Fafnir Knight update.
In short, more story, less wait time with a more consistent delivery.
So it is up to you guys. I will give you one week, which ends on 11/13/2022 to decide.
Soft reset, which means, this story and Draco Knight will be re-posted (while their old versions will be deleted when the time comes) with brand new chapters, and older chapters streamlined to address older concerns.
Or
Continue as is with the understanding that there might be some hard plot holes that might not get wrapped up evenly along with some rather forceful and awkwardly written chapters, between the Sports Festival fights and post Sports Fest.
Again, I've spent a long time thinking about this, and even considering canceling again. But I do enjoy writing this story, it's fun and gets some great comments tends to be a great highlight for me when I get an alert in the middle of my lunch hour at work.
Originally, I had just planned to delete this and draco knight and just restart without warning, but my best friend knocked some sense into me and suggested to at least hear what you guys had to say. Ultimately he has a point, at the end, while I enjoy writing, this project is meant to entertain you.
So you should have a say on what you want from me.
If there was ever a time to voice your opinion.
It's now.
On thirteenth I will review what you have to say and will make my final decision on the next day, and we will go from there. I wish I could have just give you all the next update.
But instead, I had to take a step back and review my own story. Authors trend to be their own harshest critics, and I am no different. I personally feel like I'm never really good enough and I'm always amazed by the audience I seemed to have found in this fandom.
Thank you all for you time.
Hope to see you all again soon.
With love,
ZX
