What's up all your gorgeous people! So I needed a little break off my main story right now. I was debating to start "Blu's childhood" of this. I've seen others write something like this, but I wanted to do my own take on it. Some of it was sampled from "Rio further stories" by blujewel stories and RioDanjaneiro97. Also go check them out!!! I've been reading "lost" by blujewel and RioDanjaneiro97 samba club series. Anyways, let's get into the story.
Rio de Janeiro was filled with the oceans crisp morning air. The glorious summer sun was shining bright over the beautiful city. There was a certain bright blue macaw flying over the city in search of a specific fruit.
The blue macaw was on the hunt for a juicy watermelon, a fruit that wasn't commonly found in the tropical city. He knew one place where he could find this fruit. It was a small market inside an ally way. The bird landed at the entrance of the ally way and met eyes with one of his friends.
"Hey Blu!! It's a little early to party isn't it?" A little yellow carney stepped in front of the tall bird.
"I'm not here to party Nico, I couldn't go dancing without Jewel." Blu said in a shy tone.
"Well of course! We are having a party tomorrow night though, you should bring her." Nico finished saying when a red Cardinal dropped down next to him.
"Yeah it's going to be poppin! We even got Rafael to come" it's was Blu other friend, Pedro.
"I'll see, Jewel is still recovering and I don't know if she would wanna fly all the way here. And what did you do to get Rafael here?" Blu said
"Just a little magic." Nico said, he gave Pedro a playful nudge with his wing as they both laughed.
"What are you doing here anyways?" Pedro asked. Blu started walking into the market
"I've had a craving for watermelon." Blu said with a slight chuckle
"Watermelon?? You have so many other great fruits to choose from, and you want watermelon??" Nico flashed Blu a disappointed look.
Blu thought about this. Yes, they had so many other great fruits to choose from, arguably, some more tasty than watermelon. Plus, Blu wasn't sure his new girlfriend, Jewel, has ever had watermelon or would even like it. But on the other hand, he hadn't had watermelon since he left Minnesota.
"You make a good point Nico, I just haven't had any since I left Minnesota." Blu said with an awkward smile. Did they think he was weird for wanting watermelon instead of all the other fruit? Nico and Pedro just shrugged their shoulders.
"Ight, whatever you say blue bird." Pedro said, he started to walk off but Nico stopped him by pulling his head feathers.
"Hold up. Blu, have you asked Jewel to be your mate yet?" Nico asked.
Blu suddenly got red as a mango. He started looking around him for an answer. Blu had not yet asked Jewel to be his mate. he was too scared and shy to do it. He wanted everything to be perfect, perfect just like Jewel, he wanted every detail to be right on the money.
" um well, not exactly." Blu turned away from the two birds.
"What do you mean!!!! After everything you two have gone through? You still haven't asked her!!!" Nico flew up into Blu's face. Blu crunched his neck back. Blu took a big gulp and tried to prepare his words.
"I I I I I. Ummm, I just, want things to be perfect." Blu have the too a awkward grin.
"It's already perfect bro, what else do you want?" Pedro said a little aggressively
"Yeah!! What? You want a nerd bird like yourself?" Nico said. Blu's heart sank. He didn't think his friends would say something like that to him. Yes he did consider himself very nerdy, but when he heard someone else say it, it felt like an insult.
"Uh...no...I'm saying I want to ask her in the most perfect, beautiful way..." Blu's voice sounded obviously upset from the hurtful words that were given to him.
"Oh...uhh we didn't mean to insult you Blu..." Pedro said. Blu was used to being called names all the time back in Minnesota. He just let it roll off him like, but hearing it come out of his friends beak, Blu didn't even want to stay there any long.
"It's fine guys, I just need to think about how to do it." Blu turned down the alley way so he could find what he was looking for and leave.
"I'm sorry Blu, if you want help you know where to find us. "Nico landed on the ground next to Pedro. They both watched Blu waddled down the strip.
"Why would they say that...you are just a stupid nerd bird..." Blu sighed as he hung his head.
The small street was filled with glorious fruits and flowers. Voices of people speaking different languages flooded the area. Blu just kept walking till he found the magical fruit. There was a large tub filled with cut watermelon. The man at the counter had his back turned to Blu since he was cutting other whole watermelons. Blu thought for a second what he was doing. Stealing? That wasn't right. Blu had never stole anything from anyone. He thought about it for second as he stood underneath the table.
"I guess I'll just take some small pieces. Shouldn't hurt anything, right?" Blu thought to himself. He looked into the tub and then up to the man. Blu felt his heart clench, he couldn't steal, it wasn't in him. He flew up to the edge of the table and made a loud squawk to grab the attention of the man. The man turned around and looked at Blu with his knife in the air. Blu tensed up, almost falling off the table.
"Huh? Do you want some fruit pretty bird?" The man put the knife on the table and kneeled down in front of Blu.
"Yes please." Blu said with a squawk and nodded his head. The man smiled as he grabbed to good size portions of watermelon. He grabbed a piece of cloth and tied the two in it.
"Your the bird everyone has been talking about. Tuilo has been doing such great work out here. I'm glad you and your mate are safe." The man said as he placed the package in front of Blu. Blu turned red hearing the man talk about Jewel
"Do you want anything else?" The man asked. Blu looked around. He was about to shake his head to decline the pleasant offer, but his eye caught something magnificent. A beautiful pink hibiscus flower was laying next to many other flowers. Blu pointed his wing over to it.
"Oh, for the lady I'm assuming. These flowers were grown by my grandma in her garden. It's a very romantic place to take someone, she lives up in the mountains. It's called the hidden valley, you should take your mate there." The man said. He examined the flower before laying it next to the cloth.
"Thank you, I'll have to do that." Blu said, he grabbed the flower in his beak and started grabbing the package.
"You're very welcome blu." The man said as he gave Blu a wink. Blu was in totally shocked.
"Can, can you...you understand me?" Blu stammered.
"Go take Jewel to Beth and find out." The man smiled and turned away from blu. He was absolutely shocked. Blu grabbed the watermelon and flew off into the sky.
"Was...was that actually...real? I mean...I haven't lost my mind, Right? I didn't get a lot of sleep last night but, I,." Blu was talking to himself,he couldn't wrap his beak around what just happened.
Blu flew back to his home in totally silence. He just couldn't believe a human actually understood him. There were a couple of occasions where Blu was dazed in thought and almost crashed into trees, other birds, and the Christ The Redeemer statute. As Blu got closer to his lovely little home, he thought about if he should tell Jewel what happened.
"No no, shes definitely going to think you're completely out of your mind and leave you. Hmmm. I'll just surprise her by taking her there. Yeah, that'll be perfect!" Blu was so happy that he was finally coming up with the perfect plan to propose to Jewel. Now all that was left are the little things.
Blu landed on the wooden edge of his and Jewel's bird house. It wasn't much, it had one bed room, a swing out side, and some decorative knickknacks found by Blu. He peered inside to find the beautiful bird, sadly she was not in there.
Huh, hopefully she didn't go out to find food, we would have too..." Blu pulled his head out of the room and spun around to see Jewel standing on the edge of a window.
Blu and Jewel's bird house was just above Linda and Tulios beautiful home. Blu was shocked that Jewel was in the house without him. Usually she would hate having to go with Blu to see Linda, Tulio and Fernando. Blu grabbed the package of watermelon along with the flower, and glided down to Jewel. He landed on the edge of the window and was shorty grabbed by Jewel and taken into a tight hug.
"Oh Blu, I didn't know where you went, you were gone almost all morning. I had to see if you were with Linda." Jewel's voice was filled with concern and love. Blu melted into her warm wings after hearing how worried she was for him.
"I'm alright Jewel, I just went to get breakfast and Um... this." Blu flew over the the kitchen table, followed by Jewel, and dropped the watermelon. he walked up to Jewel and slipped the hibiscus behind her left ear.
"Aww Blu. I love it." Jewel flung her whole body onto Blu, causing him to become unstable.
"I knew you would like it." Blu felt his heart pumping harder.
"I don't like it, I love it." Jewel lifted her head off Blu's chest, and gave him a passionate kiss on the beak. She pulled away and stared into Blu's eyes. He loved Jewel's eyes, every time he looked into them, he would instantly feel calm. Even if his heart was racing at a hundred miles pre hour, one look into her eyes, and he would relax and melt away. Blu felt himself fall deeper into Jewel's wings. Jewel started feeling more and more of his weight fall on top of her.
"Blu? You okay?" Jewel's chest became tight from his weight, it was making it harder for her to breathe. She stepped backwards with one of her talons to support herself and Blu from falling.
"Blu!! Are you good?" Jewel giggled at how her lover was acting.
She enjoyed how awkward he was. He was very different compared to other birds, But that's what Jewel loved the most about him. He wasn't flashy, he wasn't cocky, he wasn't stuck up, and most importantly, he loved her for who she was, not because of her body. Most birds Jewel talked to were exactly like that. They didn't care who she was, where she came from, what she enjoyed, they just wanted to be seen next to her.
But for Blu, he didn't care who was looking, what anyone said about them. Jewel was absolutely perfect in Blu's eyes, in every way. He loved how independent she was, how fierce she became. Blu still couldn't believe he had his perfect bird, even though he never knew someone like Jewel would be his type. But the one thing that really pulled them together, was their love for dancing.
"Blu! Get off" Jewel laughed as she gently pushed Blu off. He stumbled around confused on what happened. Jewel covered her wing and giggled at him.
"What?" Blu said with confusion.
"Oh nothing. Someone is just a little lovey today, hmm?" Jewel gave Blu a curious eye. Blue coughed to clear his throat so say something
"Actually yeah, umm, do you want to, um maybe, you know, go to a flower garden?" Blu rubbed the back of his neck. He was obviously nearvous but what for? Jewel would obviously agree to go with him, but why was he still so scared to ask?
"Hmmmm, are you asking me out on a first date?" Jewel gave Blu a seductive look as she walked closer to Blu. He felt his chest get tight, he throat closed up, he was having trouble getting his words out.
"Yeah, would you like that? We never had a real.." Blu started saying but Linda came in through the front door followed by tuilo.
" Blu!!! Guess what!!!"" Linda ran up to Blu and crouched down in front of Blu and Jewel. Linda's aggressive startled both of them.
"Is she okay?" Jewel asked. Blu shrugged his shoulders to both Jewel and Linda. Linda lifted her hand and placed it in front of Blu. She had a giant rock strapped around her finger. Blu didn't think an engagement ring could be that big!
"Me and Tulio are going to get married!!!" Linda jumped on and down and did a little dance as she flung herself onto Tulio, who almost fell over from her.
"Married? What does that mean?"Jewel turned to blu with a look of concern. She of course didn't know anything about human society. A lot of human things were strange to Jewel. but of course, not for Blu.
"Oh well, umm, ha, idk how to put it." Blu suddenly got awkward and his face was visible red. Jewel continued looking at him, waiting for an answer.
"Well…..it's a thing humans do. They um….well….when they love each other, they are together right? Well for humans, you can be legally bounded together. So the government knows you are together or "married" also in some religious being married means after the two die, they will be together, forever. It's kind of a human tradition. So basically if two people are together, they get married to show their love to everyone and they say there vows, which is kinda a promise to each other? There is a big ceremony, family and friends come, there's food, and drinks, music, dancing, partying. It's pretty beautiful in a way." As Blu finished, he turned around to face Jewel. She had a upset look on her face.
"So kinda like being mates." Jewel said, her eyes showed Blu what she was thinking.
"Yeah, you can think of it like that." Blu nodded his head.
"Do you want to get married?" Jewel said as she stepped closer to Blu.
