Kiva: Dark Moon Over The Bloody Sky

Interlude 1: Ice General's Reaction

"So the rumors about the two large Danger Beasts fighting in the heart of the Capital, were they true?" Esdeath asked, an uncommon perturbed look upon her beautiful face.

"Yes. It was the first time we have a breach into the Capital in a long time." The person speaking, by appearance, was Makoto, the youngest Emperor of the Empire.

They are currently in the throne room of the palace after Esdeath just returned from her mission in the North. It was that moment when the Ice General asked about the recent rumors of disturbing things occurring while she was absent.

"Indeed. We didn't receive any warnings from our outside guards, but they appeared out of nowhere and engaged in battle." Makoto said. And the description of the Danger Beasts didn't match anything in their historical records of Danger Beasts that had troubled them in the past.

Esdeath was looking at the drawings of the Danger Beasts. The first one looks like a massive chandelier while the other one looks like a large dragon with a giant castle on the back or part of it. The Ice General had nothing to say as she is dumbfounded that she had never seen anything like them before in her life.

"There are some witnesses who claimed that one of the Danger Beast had a tamer on it." The Emperor added. This made Esdeath raise an eyebrow.

"A tamer?" She asked. "Was anyone able to see them?" To be able to tame such a beast would require power and domination as it made her blood boil in excitement.

"I'm afraid that it was impossible since it was too dark. After taking down the other Danger Beast, they soon fleed the Capital." The Emperor reported sadly.

"And what of the Imperial force in the Capital? What were they doing while the Danger Beasts were fighting?" asked Esdeath.

"At the same time, the palace was attacked by an unknown assassin without any warning. We couldn't see the figure's appearance except for the dark cloak, but the thing is that they take Honest's crown." Makoto said, making Esdeath blink.

"Just for his crown…?" Esdeath asked in mild disbelief. Sure, she knows that the Empire has a lot of enemies, especially those who were made by Honest himself. But what in the world would they want with his crown more than his life?

"Yes, it was something important to him that was enough for him… being like this," Makoto answered, looking at the minister who is sobbing while eating his greasing meat now.

As much as Esdeath is surprised to see the minister like this, there are other important things on her mind. For instance, the rumors she's been hearing about the strange occurrences during her absence.

"I also heard rumors about strange beasts that have been leaving them as see-through husks. Is that true?" Esdeath asked. Though she has never actually seen them in person, it sounds like things won't be boring for her here.

"Yes…" The kid emperor sighed tiredly. "Though we don't know where they come from, there were some witnesses who say they saw the sky turn red and the moon mysteriously coming out." It might be hard to believe but he witnessed the unusual event from the palace as well.

"The moon? Are you certain of that? There are no Danger Beasts that can bring the moon out…" Esdeath said, frowning. But the more she hears of this, the more she thinks that everyone might have lost their minds as the power to bring out the moon is on the level of fantasy.

"I know. But there are reports that the moon was out. Even I saw it myself." The Emperor stated truthfully.

"Did these Danger Beasts leave anything to trace their origin?" asked Esdeath. If they have some sort of clue, they might be able to find out how they got into the Capital.

"There was one thing that was left every time one of those appeared…" Makoto answered, remembering the reports. "A crater in the shape of a bat's wings. But we don't know what in the world created these craters in the first place or what they represent."

Esdeath did remember seeing such a mark when she and her force returned to the Capital before. She too was curious about who or what would leave a mark like that in the Capital.

"I see. It sounds like a lot of things happened during the time of my absence." Esdeath remarked, smiling up at the young boy. "I will humbly accept your reward, and send it to my soldiers who I left behind to guard the North. They will be most pleased." Esdeath bowed her head once again. "My emperor, with how chaotic the Capital has become. The best way to combat these is with Teigus. I wish to establish a five-squadron of Teigu users. That is all that I will need." This made the Emperor's eyes wide in surprise.

"But don't you already have three teigu users, your Three Beasts? You need more on top of that?" The emperor asked, quirking an eyebrow.

"Your highness, there's no need to worry. Simply grant Esdeath her requests." The minister said, continued eating.

"Hmmm, if you say so then I won't worry." The emperor said as he nodded his head.

"I will make the necessary arrangements at once." The minister said. 'Even without my Teigu, Esdeath has no interest in political power. All she cares about is fighting and crushing her opponents. While I'm in charge, she will be able to do what she pleased and kill many in our way.' he thought darkly to himself.

"I don't think gold is enough for all of your efforts. I wish to reward you with something more." The emperor said, smiling at Esdeath. "Is there anything else you desire? A title? Land? Name anything you want, and I will do my best to obtain it for you."

"Well… if I had to choose something…" The ice general said a smile on her face. "I'd like to find love."

"That makes sense!" The emperor exclaimed, pounding his fist into his palm. "You're at the marrying age, and you're still single."

"But don't you already have dozens of men falling at your feet?" The Minister asked, giving a skeptical look.

"Those are all merely… pets," Esdeath replied, chuckling under her breath.

"Well then, I'll have fun playing matchmaker!" The emperor said, gesturing toward the Minister. "What about the minister here? He's a good man." The Minister nearly choked on the food he was eating when he heard about this.

"That is true, but…" Esdeath said, trying to hide the amusement on her face. "The Minister has extremely high blood pressure. I fear he might not last much longer."

"Well then…" The Minister said, his voice full of irritation. "What type of man are you looking for, General?"

"I've prepared a list…" Esdeath said, pulling a piece of paper out from between her breasts. "It's full of my criteria for my ideal man. I find anyone who satisfies my standards, then let me know."

"Very well then." The Emperor said. The Servant handed him Esdeath's list. "I'll look over this, and get to work immediately."

The Minister looks over the list that Makoto was holding as there is a literal frown on his face. He did not doubt that if they searched the whole Empire and the nearby countries, they would not find such a match.

"Thank you, your Majesty. If there is nothing else need, I will be excused for now." Esdeath said before turning around and leaving the throne room.

To be continued…

AN: That is the end of this Interlude where we will get a glimpse of the Ice General's reaction to things that had happened in her absence when it comes to conquering the North with her force. You're wondering why the Emperor never mention Kiva from the time he showed up in the previous chapters, you can say that none of them noticed or those witnesses were already eaten by Fangires. As for Seryu not saying anything, she had to deal with the IXA System malfunction so she barely had time to do anything and developed tunnel vision. With that done, we will return back to the main story.
