Chapter 4: Looting Horn Hill

After some debate it was decided that even though Etain had used up her spells for the day, They needed to go ahead and loot Horn Hill now, before word of the late Lord Tarley's death had spread. A few healing spells from Alice Cured Melissa's wound and made her ready to fight.

They managed to make it to Horn Hill castle without being seen. The part of the castle where the dining room window looked out over the land was too high to throw a grappling hook. So the Flame Princess had to climb the wall by hand to the window and throw a rope down for the others. Once the others had joined their red-headed leader, they took the time to search the dinning room. The arming sword known as Heart's Bane was on a rack on the mantle above the fireplace. The Flame Princess only needed to stand on a chair in order to reach it. She hopped down from the chair And drew the sword, making a few test swings. It felt less than half as heavy as a sword this size should be and the blade had a rippling pattern to it, like Damascus steel. There was no doubt that they had found a valerian steel sword. She strapped the sheath to her belt before asking:

"Anyone found that secret door yet?"

"Not yet," replied Kendra, as she felt around the wall opposite the hearth.

"Let me give it a try," ordered the Flame Princess, as she tapped the wall next to the hearth. "Here it is!" She announced, as she stuck her finger in a hidden latch and opened a hidden door in the wall next to the hearth.

The door opened to reveal a small closet with shelves full of coffers. The Flame Princess checked a coffer for traps before tinkering with the lock and opening it to reveal the gold and silver coins within.

"Let's take them all and sort them out later," suggested the blonde fighter: Kendra.

Melissa cast an Anywhere out of this World spell and they started loading the coffers into the extra-dimensional space within their magess whose head resembled a planet. Etain helped her load up, while the others stood guard. It was fortunate that they did so. Otherwise they might have been surprised when Talla Tarley stepped into the the room.

"What are you . . . Guards!" Yelled the young woman in the fancy dress that was almost as elaborate as Melissa's.

Kendra and the Flame Princess drew their swords, while Alice readied her mace. The noblewoman tried to flee, but Alice grabbed her by the hair and pulled her into her arms. A couple of men wearing chainmail, armed with swords ran into the room. The Flame Princess parried the arming sword of her attacker, while Kendra stabbed at the other one with her rapier. But her thrust was not accurate enough and slid off the armor of the guard.

When two more guards entered through the other door, Alice released her hostage so that she could use both hands to wing her mace. Sarella drew her dagger and tried to assist her.

"We could use a little help here!" Announced Alice as she swung her mace at the head of a guard, whose life was saved by his helmet.

"Finish up here," ordered Etain. "I"ll help them."

"But you don't have any spells left!" Protested Melissa.

"Then, I'll Risky Cast!" Replied Etain, as she drew her dagger. She then proceeded to Risky Cast Curses Scribed In Gore by slicing open her own abdomen and letting her guts spill out. Unfortunately, she had miscast the spell and an endless supply of intestines, kidneys and stomachs began pouring out of her. The scantily clad necromancer ignored this disgusting side effect and stepped up to join the battle.

The Flame Princess parried another thrust from her opponent, while Kendra impaled her foe on her magical rapier, which the easily thrust though the guard's chainmail and into his heart. Alice swung at the guard's head again, with a glancing blow that injured him, but didn't remove him from the fight. Sarella was not as skilled in battle as her Sand Snake sisters. But she wasn't completely helpless with a weapon. She dodged the guard's attempt to run her through and nicked his hand with her dagger. Etain, was still leaking internal organs as she moved between Sarella and her foe. Her spell not only disgusted her friends and foes alike, it also made her almost impervious to further harm. It didn't, however, improve her fighting skills and her dagger thrust failed to harm the guard.

Kendra killed the Flame Princess' opponent with her rapier, then turned to help the other three women. This time Alice bashed open the head of her foe when her Mace connected with his head. Even the helmet was not enough protection from a two-handed blow of that intensity. Etain's foe overcame his revulsion enough to stab her nearly bare breast. Pretty much all of her skin was visible, so there was a large target area. Much to his surprise, his sword failed to penetrate her skin, which had become supernaturally tough. She stabbed back at him, but her dagger failed to penetrate his chainmail. Sarella stepped back to help Melissa load the last of the loot into her.

"There's more coming!" Announced the Flame Princess, as Kendra killed the last of the guards in the room.

"That's fine," replied Melissa. "I'm all done here." The magess in the elaborate dress with the planet head stepped over to see the group of armed and armored men charging down the hall at them. Casting a Storming through the Red Clouds and Holocaustwinds spell, a red cloud appeared in front of Melissa and moved into the hallway, obscuring their view of what was going on there. But based on the sounds of battle, the guards appeared to be fighting each other instead of going after the invading women.

"Let's get out of here!" Said Sarella, as she went for the rope.

They all climbed down to the ground outside the castle before fleeing the scene. As they ran back to the village, Etain left a visible trail as she continued to have organs fall out of her.

"We need to get out of here!" Announced the Flame Princess.

"Wait!" Cried Melissa. "What about the books?"

"Fine," snarled the Flame Princess. "You and Sarella can load up the books. Alice, heal Etain. Kendra, help me saddle up the horses."

Once Melissa and Sarella had loaded up their magical library into the extra dimensional space inside Melissa, and Alice had cast healing spells to make Etain stop expelling organs and heal the damage she had done to herself, the Party mounted up and rode away.

They rode until nightfall and set up a camp before Melissa ended the Anywhere Out of this World spell and expelled everything in her extra-dimensional space. They counted up the loot. Apparently this world must be on a gold standard as a large chunk of it was gold dragons. They were rich! Of course, most of it would be used for magical research for Melissa, Etain and Sarella, who wanted to learn magic from the other two women. Bedding down for the night, Kendra, Sarella and the Flame Princess divided the watches between them, allowing their spell-casters to sleep the whole night and recover their spells.

The next morning, Melissa re-cast Anywhere Out of this World so they could load the library and loot back into her. Then, after breaking their fast and mounting up, the Party rode away to the North.

They traveled for three more days before finding an abandoned cabin to stay in. Then set up the Library and helped Sarella create her first spellbook. Both the Magic Users opened their spellbooks and let her copy from them. She surprised them by choosing: Goat Perversion, Robe of Ectoplasm, and Volcanic Slut as her initial spells.

Now that they had had time to recuperate and turn Sarella into a Magic User, it was time to pack up their library and loot and move on. Although their goal was to loot Casterly Rock, High Garden was along the way. Looting the second wealthiest castle in the land seemed a good idea.

As they approached High Garden castle, they could see it was well named. It was built on a large hill that had been terraced. Each level had a wall at the edge of it. But you could tell by the trees sticking up over each wall that each level had a garden on it. Surrounding the whole castle was a thorny hedge maze that would slow down any army attempting to surround the castle. A single road cut through the maze, leading to the main gate of the outer wall.

Note: In the later seasons of the show, they didn't even seem to be trying to use good architecture for the show. High Garden and Casterly Rock looked nothing at all like I pictured them. And later, they had scenes on the outer walls of Kings Landing, using castles that had a completely different architectural style than Dubrovnik, which they had used for the early seasons.

Many of these spells in this chapter are taken from books of original new spells, all of which had the names of Heavy Metal Song titles.
