Drz Sze MilackuRadek has spent a lifetime writing to his daughter.
He's always been smart and his country has always been dangerous, especially for people like him.
As soon as he'd heard she was pregnant he'd known were leaving.
He'd made a deal, got them to America and once they were there his wife had run.
She'd never spoken to him, never written to him and never let him see her, no matter how much he'd begged.
So he wrote instead, a letter a day for every day she had ever existed, sending them when he had addresses, saving them when he didn't and collecting them on Atlantis. Hundreds of neatly scripted, perfectly bound letters, always hand written.
Then Rodney worked out how to send one last video message back and he'd been able to speak to her.
Somehow that was more difficult than writing. How was it possible to fit a year's letters into one short tape? He'd managed eventually.
"Drz sze milacku," he finished. 'Take care of yourself, darling.'
The end of one more letter she'll never get, one more letter she won't let her see.
But it's his last chance to say goodbye and sometimes it's okay to pretend.
