Chapter forty-two: Joint training event shenanigans, part two

Aizawa couldn't believe it. His class had not only lost the joint training event overall, but did so by losing the first three matches in a row. They were completely undone by Sekijiro's students. The whole of the 1-A team for round three had to be taken to see Recovery Girl, and Sen had to go along as well because an icicle from one of Todoroki's attacks had pierced into his left shin, hitting but not piercing through bone. The underground hero was actually rendered speechless over how his class as a whole had not only lost, but had lost bad.

Aizawa couldn't even think of what to say, at least until Nemuri spoke up by saying, "So, I think that the teams for round four ought to get in there so they can get started on their-"

"No." Nemuri was cut off when Aizawa spoke up. The rest of the present UA staff looked at Aizawa, their expressions as they regarded him varying differently.

"No?" Sekijiro asked, prompting Aizawa to turn to face him, "What do you mean no?"

Gesturing down to where the industrial battleground was at, Aizawa said, "Why bother with the remaining matches, Sekijiro? Your class won the first three rounds in a row. Even if my class wins the remaining two rounds, the whole thing is still an overall win for you guys. Fighting the other two rounds at this point would be pointless, and I refuse to allow my students to do anything that's pointless." Aizawa then turned around and proceeded to walk away. "Just accept your victory Sekijiro, and shove off. I'm through with things here."

"Shouta, you're being unreasonable," Nemuri scolded, clearly unamused with how Aizawa was acting, "There's no need to be a sore loser jus-"

"Out there," Aizawa interrupted, gesturing off in a random direction, "In the real world, where pro heroes are working for real, they can't afford to fail, can't afford to lose to what villains they face. You both know this as much as I do." Giving Nemuri a glare that sent shivers down her spine (not the good kind that she likes, mind you), Aizawa went on, "My students can't afford to fail. Not now, not ever." Aizawa, not giving the others a chance to speak up, turned around and proceeded to walk away, telling his students who were present to come along.

After Aizawa had taken off with his remaining students, Sekijiro and a worried looking Nemuri turned to look at the rest of 1-B, as well as a firm and disappointed looking Toshinori. "...I can only assume that Aizawa is yielding the rest of the event to you?" Toshinori asked Sekijiro.

The Blood Hero nodded in the affirmative. "...Yeah, he does have a point that, regardless of how the other two rounds went, the event as a whole is still an overall win for my students." Turning to face his students, Sekijiro said, "You all hear that? You guys won the joint training event!" This drew some cheers out of Class 1-B as a whole, but some of the students were noticeably giving underwhelming responses to the news that they won. Seeing the overall lukewarm response to being declared the winners of the event overall, Sekijiro couldn't blame them.

Seeing that things were settled somewhat, Sekijiro decided to take his students back to their dorm. Things had gotten heated during the exercise today, and Sekijiro figured that his students needed to unwind. Luckily classes for the day had been canceled for the joint training event, so everyone was free to unwind and relax. But the teachers who were present weren't sure if their scowling co-worker was going to understand that.

Sekijiro, Nemuri, and Toshinori were right to worry. Aizawa did NOT understand that his students needed to relax.

It was later that afternoon, after all of the injured students had been treated by Recovery Girl as much as possible, when Aizawa had all of his students, in their school uniforms, sitting at their desks in the 1-A homeroom. "This class, as a whole, had failed," Aizawa said, his tone masking it clear he was not amused at all. "You all had failed, even though I told you that I wouldn't accept any more failure." He furrowed his brows as much as possible. "I would like to know why you all as a whole thought that it would be a good idea to disobey me."

"Sensei," Jiro spoke up, an annoyed scowl on her face, "I'm not sure if you've noticed it, but the rest of the class and I are only human."

"She's right!" Mina cried out, "You've been running us ragged! You've made us do far too much and in far too little time! You've also been an absolute tyrant, straight up threatening and terrifying us to get us to do what you want and when! So we aren't just at the ends of our ropes physically, but also mentally and emotionally as well!"

"There's also how you flat out refuse to let us accept any help at all from outside of our own class," Tokoyami scowled, "Believe it or not, but Midoriya last night was actually going to offer us some insight on our quirks to help us figure out how to improve. He's written down detailed analysis on the quirks of many of us in the hero course, both his own classmates and-"

Aizawa cut Tokoyami off by holding up a hand to cut him off. "...I beg your pardon, Tokoyami," Aizawa began, "But did you just say that Midoriya has written down detailed descriptions of the quirks of some of you?"

"Technically, he's done so for all of us," Tokoyami clarified, "As well as all of his classmates over in 1-B with him. I think he's even got analysis on the quirks of some members of the UA staff, as well as several prominent pro heroes."

"Yeah, I know what you're talking about, Birdhead," Bakugo said, "That nerd Deku's always been studying quirks for as long as I've known him, thinking about all the different ways that they can be used and what not. I've actually seen some of what he's written down, and even I have to admit that I'm impressed at the level of detail and consideration that Deku's given each and every one of the quirks he's analyzed."

The underground hero turned to look at Bakugo. "...Bakugo. How long have you've known Midoriya?"

The explosive teen looked surprised that Aizawa was suddenly asking him for details on the relationship that there was between him and Izuku. "...Since the two of us were babies still in diapers, basically. Our respective moms have been friends since before either Deku or I were born."

"And his habit of analyzing the quirks of others?" Aizawa asked.

Shrugging, Bakugo went on, "Deku's quirk analysis stuff is all written down in these composition notebooks I've always seen with him. He's bound to have filled dozens of them up by this point. I still remember bits from when we both attended Aldera Junior High where I could see Deku writing down his quirk analysis stuff down in those composition notebooks. I remember visiting him and Mrs. Midoriya one time with my mom, and I saw one of those composition books that looks like it's been around since me and Deku's late elementary school days at a minimum."

Mahou arched a wry, surprised eyebrow at that. "Really? That much for that long? Sounds kind of creepy if you ask me."

"The damn nerd must have been trying to compensate because he had lived most of his life with everyone, himself including, thinking he was quirkless," Bakugo replied, "He probably dreamed often about what it'd be like if he had a quirk like normal people. But then he went and set a record for being a late bloomer." Bakugo still wanted to know where Izuku's amazing quirk that he has had come from, and why it took so damn long to develop.

Tokoyami scowled instantly. "You speak disrespectfully of the quirkless, Bakugo. Why, our late classmate Asui's lit-"

Once again, Tokoyami was cut off by a gesture from Aizawa. "Bakugo," the underground hero went on, "Would you know if Midoriya has any of those composition books here at UA right now?"

Looking confused and wondering where this could go, Bakugo nonetheless said, "He actually had at least one on hand with him last night when he and his classmates were over at our dorm building. Given that he sounded like he wanted to give us some pointers, I'd say that said book was filled with detailed analysis on the quirks of all of us here in class."

Aizawa signaled for everyone to be quiet while he mulled something over in his mind. After a few seconds of consideration, Aizawa spoke up, "Students." With all of Class 1-A on the edge of their seats, dreading what their dictator of a homeroom teacher was going to order, they were all surprised when Aizawa told them, "You all will throw a party in your dorm to congratulate Class 1-B on their overall win during the joint training event earlier today."

"You..." Kaminari went on, sounding unsure if he had heard correctly, "...Want us to throw a party?" Most of Kaminari's classmates couldn't blame him for his lack of belief; Aizawa was, for all intents and purposes, letting them relax for a change. He was even, technically, ordering them to have fun and unwind.

Nodding once in the affirmative, Aizawa said, "We do owe it to Sekijiro and his students to pay them the respect that's due to them for their stellar performance. That being said, make sure you all invite all of Sekijiro's students over, even the ones who didn't actually fight during the joint training event because of the lack of need for them to do so." Aizawa especially wanted the 1-B students who didn't fight during the joint training event, given that one of them is the green haired boy that he has just asked some of his students about.

Holding up a hand, Mina asked, "Umm, sensei, for this party, what should we do?"

Aizawa gave an indifferent shrug. "You all are high school aged teenagers. I assume that you all know how to throw a party that you and your fellow students over in 1-B will all enjoy. Just make sure that you clean up what all mess that you make. Also, don't let it become one of those wild parties where illegal substances are used." The students of Class 1-A all let out happy, excited cheers, relieved that their homeroom teacher is finally cooling off.

"Wait," Sero asked, "When can we throw the party?"

"As soon as you all can arrange it," Aizawa replied dryly, "Hell, you can do it tonight if you think you can get things set up and invite all of 1-B over." This drew even more excited cheers from the Class 1-A students, all of them too caught up in the excitement of the party to come, of the relief that their teacher was finally easing up on them, to even consider that Aizawa might have ulterior motives to permitting them to finally be just normal teenagers.

...Aizawa would permit them this moment of respite, mostly because he needed as many people distracted as possible. Given what he had just learned from Bakugo and (to a lesser extent) Tokoyami, Aizawa not only knew now that there was concrete evidence to help him prove his suspicions about Midoriya as valid, but a lot of it, and he had an idea where to go in order to get to it.

Again, part of why he needed as many people, especially all of Class 1-B, as possible distracted.

To say that Izuku was surprised would be an understatement.

Not only was Class 1-A throwing a big party bash, but Izuku got it from his friends in 1-A, Tokoyami and Uraraka (the latter also being the girl that Izuku has romantic feelings for), that it was Aizawa of all people who called for it. Furthermore, Aizawa had apparently told his students to invite all of 1-B over for the party, to celebrate their overall win during the joint training event earlier that day. Something else that surprised Izuku was just how quickly Class 1-A was able to set the party up, even more so as they only had, at most, a few hours' notice.

But it was promising to be one hell of a party nevertheless.

During the party, Izuku, as he stood off to the side with Juzo, Yosetsu, Nirengeki, Tokoyami who had Dark Shadow out, and Uraraka as they watched things go on, saw it when some of the girls in 1-B dragged Kirishima over with them while Bakugo, Sero, and Kaminari followed to see what was going on. As it turned out, Itsuka and the other girls of 1-B were keen on collecting upon the bet that the two classes made with one another, and when they essentially dragged Kirishima over to where Kinoko was drinking a can of Root Beer, Itsuka pointed to Kinoko and said to Kirishima, "There's your new girlfriend, Kirishima. Now kiss her."

Kinoko was still surprised that this was actually happening, but Kirishima, after asking her if she really did like him and her indeed confirming it (much to her very great embarrassment), asked her if she really would be okay with kissing him. Kinoko, trembling a bit, suddenly exploded with emotion as she threw her Root Beer to the side, leapt up at Kirishima, and threw her arms around his shoulders before planting a kiss right on his lips. This drew cheers of excitement from the rest of the 1-B girls, as they were bearing witness to seeing one of their own get with the guy that she loved.

As the 1-B girls saw Kinoko make out with Kirishima, Itsuka turned to look at the 1-A boys who had followed along. "Sorry, Bakugo," Itsuka said, sounding somewhat amused, "Better luck next time, eh?"

"Like hell I'll give up," Bakugo swore, "I'll get Tsunotori liking the idea of going out with me."

"Umm, I'm not sure if I'd want to," Pony said, sounding mildly wary, "I mean, as a rule of thumb, I don't like perverts."

"What?!" Sero exclaimed, "You think Bakugo's a pervert?! Where did that come from?!"

Gesturing to Bakugo, Pony explained, "Umm, I got it that Bakugo is someone that I'd have to keep an eye out for. I also got it that there's a pervert in your class. I spent a number of years growing up in the United States, where perverted behavior is tolerated FAR less than what seems to get away with happening here in Japan." Pony then had a mildly unsure and confused look on her face. "...But I also got it that the pervert in your class is short, and speaks with a noticeable lisp in his voice. Bakugo here is neither short nor does he speak with a lisp."

Bakugo and the boys with him all looked confused at one another. This went on for a moment until Kaminari said, "Umm, Tsunotori, the classmate of ours you've just described is our late classmate Mineta. He was one of the five classmates we had who was killed in the attack on the USJ near the beginning of this school year. You've never met Mineta and never will."

Pony proceeded to look a combination of relieved and confused. "...So Bakugo here is NOT a pervert?"

"No," Sero replied, sounding mildly surprised that Pony reached the conclusion that she did.

Looking mildly dumbfounded for a few moments, Pony then said, "...Oh." Turning to look at Bakugo, Pony went on, "Well if that's the case, and he really isn't a pervert, then I'm far more open to the idea of giving being in a relationship with him a go."

"Wait, what?" Bakugo said, sounding like he couldn't believe that the girl he has the hots for just declared that she wouldn't mind giving him a shot.

Shrugging, Pony said, "Well I just got it that you are NOT a pervert, so that's plus one point for you."

As Bakugo's friends, even Kirishima who had Kinoko's arms around him, cheered for Bakugo having a chance to be with the girl he liked, Izuku and his friends over where they stood watching the rest of the party couldn't help but have some degree of happiness for him. "I... did not see this coming," Uraraka said, "Bakugo being in love with Tsunotori of all girls. It's a rather surprising development."

Nodding in agreement, Yosetsu said, "Yeah. You know Uraraka, when Itsuka submitted her condition for the bet our classes made over the joint training exercise, I had first said that we should have required your classmate Yaoyorozu to agree to become my girlfriend."

"You have feelings for Yaoyorozu?" Uraraka asked, sounding surprised.

Blushing with embarrassment, Yosetsu said, "Yeah. I know she's, like, way out of my league, but I can't help it, you know? I mean, if Yaoyorozu was JUST another pretty face, then I probably wouldn't be so into her. But Yaoyorozu, in addition to looking lovely, also has got serious smarts backing her up, and if the fact she got into UA on recommendation is any sign, then I bet she's one of the most overall powerful students in your class." Yosetsu took a sip from his soda that he was drinking. "She's both smart and strong. Can you blame a guy for liking her?"

Uraraka smiled warmly at how Yosetsu explained why he liked Yaoyorozu. "I bet she'd be happy to hear that, Awase."

"Would you, Uraraka, be happy to hear how our boy Midoriya here has the hots for you?" Juzo asked.

A blanket of silence fell over the group, lasting a few seconds before Uraraka, her face lit up out of embarrassment, cried out, "EHH?!"

"Juzo, what are you doing?!" Izuku, similarly as embarrassed as Uraraka, cried out.

"Dude, it's obvious you can't break the ice yourself," Juzo said, "So I'm doing it for you." Turning back to look at Uraraka, Juzo went on, "When the group from our class who visited your dorm last night had the group huddle, I had proposed the idea that, if 1-B won overall, then you'd have to agree to become Midoriya's girlfriend. The dude really does like you, and he grade-A awesome. Any girl would be lucky to have him."

Tokoyami, giving an amused hum, said, "I knew it."

The rest of the group turned to look at Tokoyami, with Izuku saying, "What do you mean, Tokoyami?"

"I saw signs that you had developed feelings for Uraraka since long ago," Tokoyami said, "I should know as I had shown similar signs when I was trying to court Asui, back before she..." Tokoyami trailed off, leaving the rest unspoken as his expression became somber.

Everyone in the group was silent, looking somber as they remembered the late frog girl of Class 1-A. The silence was broken when Izuku asked, "You still love Asui, don't you Tokoyami?"

Tokoyami gave a somber nod. "...Yeah. Yeah, I do."

"Would..." Izuku began, "...Would you feel better if you talked about what all you remember about Asui?"

"...Well I first saw her on the first day of class," Tokoyami said, "And I instantly thought that no other girl could compare to her." Looking to Uraraka, Tokoyami said, "Umm, pardon me if I offended you in any way, Uraraka."

Smiling gently, Uraraka replied, "No, no I'm not bothered at all. I knew how much Asui meant to you, Tokoyami."

Tokoyami nodded in thanks to his classmate. "...Well given it was the first day of class," Tokoyami went on as he continued his story, "And I was feeling particularly bold due to my confidence being boosted due to my success in getting into UA, I decided to approach Asui and introduce myself before asking for her name."

Unbeknownst to the students of the first year hero course, Aizawa while the students were all distracted snuck over to the 1-B dorm, putting all of his stealth skills he's cultivated over the years as an underground hero to the test. Even any staff members who'd otherwise be in that area were distracted; Aizawa got it that out of all of his peers in the primary staff for UA, the only ones not distracted by the party were Inui and Nezu, the former because he was consoling Tamaki who felt troubled still over the death of Mirio, and the latter because he's bogged down with a serious workload.

...Aizawa felt guilty about what he was doing, but only because it would pile more work onto Nezu's plate.

Sneaking into the 1-B dorm, Aizawa moved stealthily but quickly. The lights were all off, given all of the residents were out at the moment. Aizawa saw that the 1-B dorm building was identical to the 1-A dorm building in terms of structure and layout; assuming that the genders in Class 1-B were separated each to a different side like they are in Class 1-A, Aizawa would have an easier time locating his goal. He moved to the stairs, saw one lead up to one side and the other lead up to the other side. There were no signs telling him is either side was all male or all female, so the underground hero was going to have to guess.

As a precaution, Aizawa also checked Sekijiro's room, knowing that the Blood Hero owns an English Bulldog who Nemuri once remarked in a gushing tone is 'Sekijiro's baby'; Nezu had surprisingly (at least as far as Aizawa was concerned) permitted Sekijiro to bring the dog onto school grounds when UA had become a boarding school. Looking inside, Aizawa indeed saw the dog in question, laying on a dog bed, clearly out of it. There was a designated dog toilet pad in the room as well, and a single blue dog food bowl with '-go' on it indicated the dog's name ended with 'go'. Male names in Japan occasionally ended with 'go', so Aizawa was not too surprised that Sekijiro's dog had a normal (at least by Japanese standards) name.

Aizawa had brought along a knock out drug-laced dog treat to feed to Sekijiro's dog to knock him out so he'd have less to worry about, but given how the dog was clearly asleep, Aizawa felt there was no need. Still, he left the treat right near the dog's bed so that, if it woke up, it'd easily find the treat and eat it. The underground hero never had much patience for how illogical dogs acted; cats were a far superior animal, which is part of why Aizawa preferred them over dogs. No matter. The treat was placed, and Aizawa went about his secret business in the 1-B dorm building.

As Aizawa discovered when he went up one of the staircases, the 1-B dorm, much like the 1-A dorm, really was divided up by gender. However, Aizawa had discovered this by accident when he found only girls' rooms on the first side he checked. He never went into any of the rooms he checked, just looked in to determine if they were the right room or not before moving on. After confirming that the room he was looking for wasn't on the first side because it's the side with the girls' rooms, Aizawa checked out the other side, which by process of elimination had to have the boys' rooms.

After checking a few rooms on the boys' side, Aizawa finally found the one that he was looking for, that being Izuku's room. Aizawa as he slipped in wondered where he'd have to search in the room in order to find what he was looking for. Upon entering, Aizawa saw to his dull lack of surprise that Izuku's go to choice for decor for his room was All Might merchandise. Looking around, Aizawa spotted one of the items he was looking for pretty much immediately, given that it was just laying there, right on the green haired boy's desk next to an All Might zip-up pencil case.

One of the composition notebooks that he heard about from Bakugo and (to a lesser extent) Tokoyami. Walking over to Izuku's desk, Aizawa picked up the notebook and flipped it open. Sure enough, Aizawa saw loads of pages filled up with analysis on the quirks of various people. Aizawa was shocked, not only by the sheer amount that was in this particular composition notebook given it looked relatively new meaning that Izuku had to of gotten it recently, but also by the level of detail each quirk listed in the composition notebook had been analyzed.

This notebook was a sign that Izuku, if given the right environment and tutelage, could become as much of an intellectual powerhouse as Nezu. Hell, as far as Aizawa could tell from just this one notebook, Izuku had already surpassed Nezu when it came to ability to analyze, at least as far as analyzing quirks was concerned. "...And to think," Aizawa growled quietly to himself, "Such talent is being used against us by the League of Villains. It's almost tragic that they got to Midoriya before the heroes did, he would have been a boon to our efforts to defeat those villains."

Reading over one page in the notebook Aizawa found, in which Izuku wrote detailed analysis on the newest pro heroes in the Top Ten on the Hero Billboard Chart JP (with notes saying there were updates on some of them from previous volumes), Aizawa landed on a page detailing the Magic Hero Majestic. As he scanned over the page, Aizawa saw that Izuku had not only written details on Majestic's quirk which is called Magic, but also the various strengths it had, weaknesses that Izuku deduced the quirk had, and various ways Majestic could counter or cover for said weaknesses.

Aizawa placed the notebook back down on the desk, kept it open to the page on Majestic. Taking out his phone, Aizawa took a close up photo of the page on Majestic, also carefully avoiding getting any of the section on how the weaknesses present in Majestic's quirk could be countered. Seeing a sidenote on the Majestic page that there were updates since a previous page on Majestic from a previous notebook that was filled out, Aizawa looked around the room in hopes of finding more than just the one notebook that had been left on Izuku's desk.

To Aizawa's surprise, he found a LOT of other composition notebooks, all them them filled out fully, in one of the shelves in the shelving unit in Izuku's room. The underground hero, to his shock, counted a little over twenty counting the not yet filled one on Izuku's desk. Aizawa took a picture of the notebooks in the shelf, took a few out and took a picture of them before carefully putting them back and then, figuring that he had more than enough concrete evidence, decided to leave while he still had the cover given to him by the party he permitted his students to throw in order to distract Class 1-B.

Aizawa snuck back out of the 1-B dorm, his stealth skills aiding him in leaving undetected. He even checked on Sekijiro's dog again, and it was still snoring away in slumber-land; the knockout drug-laced dog treat was still there where Aizawa had placed it, meaning that Sekijiro's dog hadn't woken up at all. Still with the advantage of stealth on his side, Aizawa snuck back out of the 1-B dorm all the way. Getting to a point where he could move about normally, Aizawa came out of hiding and made his way to the teacher's office area.

Sitting down at the workspace he usually claimed for himself, Aizawa called up a number on his phone, which was proofed against wiretapping and other means of spying. After waiting for a few moments, Aizawa heard the other end of the line pick up. "What is it?"

"I got concrete evidence suggesting that my suspicions are correct," Aizawa replied, "We may very well finally have a breakthrough in the UA Traitor case."

END, CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Author's notes;

This chapter picks up at the point immediately after where the previous chapter left off, where Class 1-A lost to Class 1-B overall in the joint training event. Aizawa refuses to let the other two matches play out, citing how it'd be pointless, before taking off with his students. While berating his class for losing the event overall, Aizawa learns from Bakugo and Tokoyami about Izuku's quirk analysis composition notebooks. Figuring that they may be the tangible evidence he was looking to get all this time to validate his suspicions on Izuku being the UA Traitor, he lets Class 1-A throw a party to celebrate Class 1-B winning, mainly so everyone else would be distracted so he could sneak in and collect the evidence he needed. Things are going to be getting even more heated in the next chapter, where Aizawa carries out his plan in order to expose Izuku as the UA Traitor, so don't change the channel.
