Eragon A New Hope

Disclaimer: Not a good writer as I would hope I could be. Also might notice I will be possibly doing something similar to another series called Bloodkin.

Chapter 3

Jack was stunned as he got up from the shock of being bonded to a dragon. He smiled though as the little one explored his mill. He sighed, he could keep it here. But only for as long as it didn't take up too much space. He thought it since he had not seen its sex. Well he did think to check but decided against it the dragon more than likely to show or say to him that when the time was right.

A tendril of thought like a finger going over his skin was felt, it soon turned into more complex thoughts of growing curriousity. Being a low time mage he was used to the empty feeling around, it was so cold when he felt around, this was a warm feeling. Smiling he allowed it. The Thoughts though turned from curiosity into ravenous hunger. He would grab its egg and offer the creature its head more from the thought of how a lot of creatures ate the egg for the calcium. And while it looked into the egg and ate some of it, He walked to the meat locker and pulled out some meat and brought it back. Not much bigger than his hand he would take the meat and cut it up. Then offered it to the dragonet.

Piece by piece the meat vanished till with a big belly the dragon was full and happy curling up in his lap at the end. He chuckled scratching at it, his hand flexing as if thinking another shock would come. He didn't get it so he continued rubbing till he took the little one to his bed. He got in and just passed out thinking of how to keep the dragon safe and put away during the day.

The brothers would wake up early taking their bows, leathers and some meat out along side the dragons they now had, Walking into the forest, their father none the wiser about what they were doing. And getting on out into the forest forging their way to the best patch of trees they could think of. Eragon would feed the dragons and watch them while Murtagh and Roran worked on the small shelter they would build for the dragons in the tree's branches. Till there was a snap. Looking where it came from they saw Katrina. And she had a basket. "What are you doing here?" She asked them. Murtagh was the first to answer. "We could aske the same" He said.

Roran smiled, "We… are just out for a morning walk." He said, Though at that moment the dragons poked their heads out of the hut and squeaked.

But it wasn't too long before a silver head poked from the basket. "I… it seems we all have a secret reason to be here." She said and the brothers nodded and Roran blushed. "Ah… We have this secret to keep. Same reason we brought them out here. Our parent would have said to kill them. Not sure how Jack will care for his." Roran said,

They were a bit grim on that note, but with that said… They agreed to not reveal this to anyone. And Katrina would try her best to come visit her dragon often. And the boys promised to watch after the dragon in her stead should she not be able to.

The next day the came out Katrina arriving with a great amount of sausages. Murtagh looked into the hut, "Ah, they can hunt." He said seeing bird feathers inside. And same with some tufts of hair inside from the squirrels they were able to catch. Bringing this up with the others, they stayed a while dragons on their rider's respective shoulders listening to their riders. Katrina and Roran holding hands as they walked with their dragons and talked as much to one another as they would their dragons.

Jack was working in the forge as the dragon was squeaking and looking at each thing he did. He was working the metal and had separated the harder metal and the softer metal for now working out how to make two sides to the weapon and it was a slow and multiphased. He folded the metal and worked it lengthened it… till he got the shape he wanted. Though this would take days… He was hammering on the metal at the start of the day and soon heard customers. 'Hide' He thought to his dragon who took his order and hid in the place she found best to do so in. He would talk with his customer and let them use the mill for a price and they used it before leaving. Once alone again he gave the all clear and his dragon came out and watched him continue the forge work.

This exteneded to the week and he often had to handle customers. Wither someone using the mill to make flour, or wanting his skill in making items. He did have weapons on sale but more or less he had to make tools, which he made a few off. His skill though for tool crafting left much to be desired and often horst was better. Weapons however he was the better one to get weapons from. But not many traveled to Carvahall so that was why his weapons often went with the caravans.

He found his dragon growing larger quick. Once he got his weapon half crafted it was already up to his knee and he had to makes sure she was in the bed room when customers came. The next week he had to take the dragon out.. Not having seen the others he had to make his way into the forest and let it lead him… Which they ended up at the hut location where the others were. He was nodding as he saw the others… Blue, Purple, Red, and Silver. And now a grey. "So four others… Eragon, Murtagh, Roran… and who is yours?" He asked the Silver one. Before he got an image in his head. "Katrina?" He asked and the Silver one nodded. "Okay… I will visit you when I can." He said to his dragon though he had a business so he couldn't just shut shop… or could he? That was to be decided by him.

It was a few days later. Of course the brothers and Katrina noticed that the grey dragon was there. It was the third day Jack came and smiled, "Hey.. Ah… hope that my dragon being here isn't an issue."

And really. "We were wondering if you were bringing your dragon." Roran said.

Jack chuckled. "I have a business to run not like I can run out during the day that often." "What is now?" Murtagh asked and Jack shrugged. "I decided to take a day off." He said as he chuckled.

"So we have five dragons that need to keep hidden. This will be fun." He said. Though another voice came. "Indeed." And they turned and saw Brom eyes sparkling. "So now we see all the riders, and their new start… Where will it go from here. I can only hope I get to see." He said as he looked to all the riders here. "I hope that there are more." He said knowing of the other eggs.

They would find out sooner or later. First was the group making plans. There was the question of the riders revealing their dragons to their families, Brom said no since he knew that fear would rule the decision they would make. They would order their children to kill the dragon even Jack's parents would do the same. So the riders had to keep their dragons secret however Brom held a sort of class for the riders explaining the dragons and more… Though Jack being the smart one he was. "Where do you get this information Brom?" He asked having the itch to call him old man. Of course being on the more formal side decided against it. Brom smirked, "I just know what I know can you not accept that?" He asked And Jack was rather on the side of no. So Shaking his head, Brom was a bit happy about this. Though others had the same distrust. "Shows me you have the mind that is needed for a rider in these times."

It was glossed over but Jack had a fair point about Brom and how he knew more than an 'old man' story teller should know. But Jack couldn't place where and what. Brom though said he was waiting on a message or sign to decide what was next.

Over the month and a half that passed that saw the dragon's squeaks and purrs turn into rumbles. And their once soft scales turn into chainmail and different claws, and teeth into daggers that Jack shivered at the thought of being bit or cut into by. It was then the dragons started talking. And each learned of their dragon's voice. And with it the hint to wither they were male or female. Brom having given them dozens of names They had a bit of privacy in their naming of their own dragon.

"So, ah.. You are a girl dragon?" Jack asked, And his grey dragon smiled and purred, 'Yes' She said before sitting down, "Okay so…" He would go over the list of dragon names he knew from brom… Though surprisingly only one name was close but she didn't like it. So he came up with variation of the name ending up with Lien. He sighed and just came back to learn what the other riders called their dragons and just so they knew his dragon's name and sex by proxy.

Once gathering at the place you found that you were after Eragon and his dragon, and Roran and his dragon… so now after all dragons and humans gathered they started introducing their dragons.

"Well Saphira had a lot of issues with names." Eragon said the dragon poked him and hummed a bit, 'I wasn't hard to name. You just didn't try the right one.' She said as Eragon rolled his eyes a bit at this.

"Well he was hard to name, didn't like any name, so I took what he was being and what his spikes look like, so here is Thorn." Murtagh said as the red dragon nodded looking to all.

"Going over names and what name fit her, but I came up with Lunari, and she liked it." Katrina said as she poked her index fingers together a bit and smiled. 'you did well my sweet one.' Lunari offered and let Katrina pet her. "But you have a girl dragon too?" She asked Eragon and Jack smiled a bit too.

Roran smiled and patted the side of his purple dragon "This is Vaskar" Roran said and well The males seemed to have a more reserved voice than the females, As neither of them offered their advise unlike the females.

Jack Nodded, "This is Lien" Jack offered as the grey dragon purred, 'Nice to have a name.' She said,

"So three female dragons and two males?" Eragon asked as he looked to the five dragons. Even the grey dragon was a pretty shiny dragon that added to the rainbow.
