The Ultimate Challenge
Contrary to popular belief not all Hiveships had the same technology.
Certain Hives had perfected certain things, some better than others and some not at all.
Some technologies came standard, like the Hyperdrive and the Darts…
But only one Hiveship had perfected the tracking system that was inserted in the bodies of the Runners.
Usually such a technology would be sold but this time the Queen had been advised differently by one of her scientists and they'd come up with another plan.
For a modest fee the other Hives could purchase the frequency codes and the device used to track them, carefully rigged to explode if anyone attempted to alter or open it after it was sealed, in order to prevent copying.
The Runners were rare, it was difficult to find humans who were that stubborn and when they came up they sold for extremely high prices.
Now though one had gone missing and it wasn't just any Runner. It was the man they had marketed as 'The Ultimate Challenge', after he had killed so many of those who had purchased the right to hunt him.
The Queen frowned unhappily, the current owner was demanding return of payment, the contract could only be severed with death and Ronon Dex's transmitter had simply stopped transmitting, there was very little evidence the human was dead.
Then a thought occurred and she smiled unpleasantly, but this could work to their advantage. Find the only Runner who ever managed to escape from their technology. Find him without the aid of a tracker with just the wits and the senses to guide then, the way it used to be in the old days…
Put a bounty out on several planets and then whoever found him would have the new rights to his contract.
This could prove to be even more profitable than she'd originally imagined.
