Disclaimer: not mine

So one of my reviewers told my why I'm not getting alerts on ffnet. They made the stupid decision to make it so you have to opt-in to receiving alerts ever 60 or 90 days. Who is going to remember to check that all the time? Ffnet is getting worse, not better over the years. I only stick with it for the loyal readers I have there.

Though even before that, I've noticed a steady decline in reviews in general over the last 6months or so, do people not review as much anymore or something? Just curious as to the cause.

Chapter 7

He'd spent years away from them but he could still recognise the feel of either of their chakra spiking. Sasuke fought the urge to rush into the other room though he looked up from where he was doing the dishes, watching them in the reflection. Harry didn't look at all comfortable, though he supposed that was understandable since he hadn't been exposed to medic-nin before. Sasuke had been treated by medics using chakra his whole life, Naruto probably had too the rare times he needed medical help, but it had to feel strange to a civilian. Then again, from the way she was reacting…it seemed there could be more to it than that. As clan head, he had a right to know if there was anything dangerously wrong but small issues were private.

Hopefully, it was nothing that'd get in the way of training him in at least the basics. He really didn't like his cousin being so vulnerable, there were a lot of people who would see him as an easy target. Even if he could only get to genin level, it'd be better than nothing. But Sakura wouldn't feel alarmed over nothing, so what could she have found?

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sakura ran the test again only to get the same result, she needed to get a blood sample and have it tested fully. How could she be picking up both deadly poison and some kind of antidote? They would cancel each other out and yet both appeared to be present. And in a civilian?! Maybe she needed to go over that test again, was she doing it wrong?

She quickly finished up everything else, noting the scars, malnutrition that would need addressing and had likely already stunted his growth somewhat, there was even some fading nerve damage!

She wasn't sure what to do for him, she'd have to talk with Shizune about it, maybe Shishou. "Well, you're not going to drop dead any time soon," she tried for teasing, getting a start before he smiled slightly.

"Good to know. So I'm fine."

"I didn't say that," she told him. "There's some…concerning issues Harry. I'd like to take a blood sample and have the lab analyse it." to her surprise he paled slightly, hand moving to the ragged scar on his arm. Her mind spun to worse case scenarios, from someone like Orochimaru to kidnappers, mad scientists… He was a civilian with no one to protect him, well he had Team 7 now.

And then Sasuke was there, watching her carefully, standing at Harry's back. "What's wrong?"

Harry was becoming more tense and she hesitated before smiling.

"Nothing massive. I'd like to get your eyes checked, see if there's anything we can do with chakra that's not available back in Britain," she told Harry who nodded, able to feel Sasuke staring at her, knowing he knew that she was hiding something.

"You think that's possible?" Harry asked in surprise.

"Depends on the cause of your vision issues," she admitted.

"I know Dad wore glasses," he shrugged slightly.

"How long have you worn them?" She asked, and he frowned.

"Since I was…five, I think? I used to have trouble at school and the nurse finally told my Aunt I needed them."

"Vision problems are incredibly rare in the Uchiha," Sasuke stated.

"It's been a few generations since the Uchiha married into his family, and there's his Mother's side as well to consider. Do any of her relatives wear glasses?"

"No clue," Harry shifted, looking uncomfortable. "All my Grandparents died before I was born. Aunt Petunia never really talked about her family, I only ever met Vernon's sister."

"If it is genetic, can anything be done?" Sasuke asked.

"Genetics are a bit advanced for me at the moment," she admitted. She was a medic-nin, training to be a frontline medic, which meant some areas she'd only touch on the basics.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Naruto finished cleaning up from breakfast, working very hard not to hear anything going on in the other room. Sometimes, having better senses sucked, but he didn't need them to feel the tension in the air. He hoped Harry was okay, if anything happened to him it'd be really bad for Sasuke. They'd just gotten him back; it'd destroy them if he left again and this time it wouldn't be due to something like a seal controlling his mind. But it wasn't just for Sasuke's sake that he hoped Harry was okay, he liked Harry.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Harry was interested in maybe being able to improve his vision but not so much in giving his blood to anyone, not after the Graveyard. She seemed to have found something that concerned her, but what? Maybe something residual from all the potions that'd been shoved down his throat after the Department mess? Muggles couldn't detect them but whatever Sakura had done wasn't really Muggle, though it didn't feel like magic either.

Still, he was very happy when Naruto called out a question to Sasuke that had him rushing after the blond, glad for the change in subject and ignoring Sakura's look his way.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sasuke was happy to see his cousin in traditional Uchiha colours and dress, even if the clothes were too large, they still fit better than what he'd arrived in. He was not eager to go out into the Village but it was necessary, Harry had only the clothes he'd been wearing after all and while some supplies had been brought in before they left, they hadn't known exactly what would be needed for his family or anything.

The first thing would be setting up Harry with access to an account in his name, as part of the larger clan account. That way he could buy whatever he needed, even if Sasuke was out of the Village. He doubted he would be for some time though, not with his slip up with Kakashi-sensei. Would he be taken off the active-duty roster? Or with Harry safe, would he be given more time to gain control of himself?

He shook those worries off, glancing at Harry who was looking around curiously as they walked towards the centre of the Village, Naruto and Sakura acting as buffers beside them. He could feel people watching them, hear whispers though not what they were saying. Were they commenting on him or Harry? After all, his clothing declared him an Uchiha and his hair pretty much confirmed it, though his eye colour might cause some second guessing. He had to get used to being back in Konoha, showing Harry around was the best way to do so. Sasuke's old room was Harry's now, they'd have to look around and see what he'd like to decorate with, and would he prefer a raised bed to the futon Sasuke had used as a child? From the hotels they'd stayed in during their trip, he got the feeling futons weren't a thing in England.

Once all of the shopping was done, should they go to the hospital to see about his eyes, or at least getting an appointment for them? Glasses were a massive liability after all. And Sasuke knew it wouldn't take long for word to spread of a civilian Uchiha, Harry would be seen as a very easy target for those who wanted their bloodline. Some Villages would treat him okay so long as he went along with fathering a new Uchiha clan within them, others would be more like Orochimaru… Harry needed to know how to escape and evade at the very least.

They entered the bank and Harry frowned in confusion. "Why are we here?"

"You need to be authorised as a member of the clan and have an account set up," he explained quietly.

"But I don't have any money with me," Harry argued.

"You're an Uchiha, you have access to the clan accounts," Sasuke assured him, wasn't that a good thing?

"But…isn't that your money?"

"It's ours," he promised. "All clan members have access to the clan accounts via an account set up in your name, it gets added to every year to ensure you can look after yourself. We…we're the only two left Harry so there is a lot to share. And if anything happens to me it will all be yours, unless I have children first."

Harry grimaced but nodded slowly. "I have money back home, the Potter accounts, I just don't have full access till I'm seventeen. I have a trust fund for school at the moment."

"And as a Potter, that's yours. This is what you receive as an Uchiha," Sasuke told him firmly, no way was he accepting any of Harry's money, that was his from his parents. Sasuke's account was from his parents too, but as clan head he had access to everything. "Has anyone taught you how to manage your accounts?"

"It's all being looked after; I only know what's in my trust."

"I can teach you if you want," he offered even as the manager appeared, and he glared at the sneer sent Naruto's way, making the man baulk.

Naruto and Sakura had to wait in the lobby as they went through to deal with everything. He made sure the manager explained everything to Harry, wanting him to have a say in his own money, it would be good practice for when he received his inheritance. He'd have to speak with the Hokage about finding a way to have it transferred and exchanged to their currency for Harry.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sakura had fun dragging the three boys through the shops but Harry really did need everything. And the Uchiha colours didn't look the best on him with his different skin tone so she managed to introduce a few shades that looked better while still sticking close. Sasuke arranged for the clan crest to be added to most of his shirts, though smaller than the way Sasuke had worn it when they were young since they didn't want a literal big target on Harry's back.

Convincing Harry he could decorate the room how he wanted, even get new furniture, was very hard. And it made her really glad he was with them now. If his family had money and he had a trust, why had he been wearing such dreadful clothing? His family's attitudes…it was all adding up in a way none of them liked. But why treat the golden goose so badly, unless…would they inherit if Harry died before turning seventeen? She really didn't like considering that. They would show Harry that he could have nice things, the same way Naruto had to be shown once he began getting steady mission pay.

They got some new bookshelves in a lighter colour as well as a desk and chair for the room. Sakura bought out half the educational section of the bookstore to help Harry learn everything about Konoha he should know as a citizen. He'd just sighed and muttered something about homework, making her laugh.

"New glasses should wait until after you have your eyes examined, if you still need them than you might need a new prescription," Sasuke pointed out, frowning when Harry was browsing a book and she realised he was squinting even with the glasses on.

"When was the last time you had them checked?" she asked.

Harry shifted uncomfortably and she knew they weren't going to like the answer. "When I was five?" Yep, she was right.

"I'll schedule an appointment for as soon as possible," she told them, seeing Sasuke's hands curl into fists.

"What do they do in an eye check?" Naruto asked, and she looked at him. "What?" he asked nervously.

"So I'll be scheduling two…or three?" she asked Sasuke sweetly, and he grimaced but nodded when she glanced at Harry and then back at him. it'd be less stressful for Harry if he saw them all getting it done. "I had mine only three months ago." She had yearly checks like she thought everyone did but apparently not.

She would have thought the Hokage would have kept up with Naruto's health checks when they were little. Then again, he never got sick so maybe eye issues weren't a worry either due to his healing? And Sasuke should get regular basic exams, she knew from sitting in on Kakashi-sensei's last exam that overuse of the Sharingan could cause problems. Although Shishou had said the base form should be fine…which meant there were other forms? If Harry already had vision issues, would activating the Sharingan fix them or make them worse? Once again, they needed his blood to see if he carried the dominant gene for the eyes which would allow him to activate them, but she didn't want to push when he obviously had reasons to be wary. She'd give his exam results to Shizune, he seemed stable even with the weird results so maybe it could wait.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Harry staggered into his room and collapsed on the bed…futon they called it, the bag of clothes beside him. Sasuke had told him he could get a raised bed but he kind of liked being on the floor. It wasn't uncomfortable or anything and it meant less distance to fall if he rolled out due to a nightmare.

Naruto laughed even as he hauled in several bags of the books Sakura had insisted he get. He understood why but still…that was more books than he'd needed the last five school years! Though some of them were on the language since apparently the 'seal' behind his ear could be disrupted so it was better if he actually learnt it. "Tired?" the blond asked cheekily.

"How do you have so much energy? That was worse than getting from the dorm to class and back all day!"

"Dorm?" Sasuke asked as he brought in another bag.

"Boarding school since I turned eleven, same school my parents went too. Ten months of the year though there are some breaks in there where you can go home, I stay though. It's this big castle, around a thousand years old and my dorm is in one of the towers while some of my classes are in the dungeons so lots of stairs since it's a heritage building and they can't instal lifts." That was the best way he could think to explain it without mentioning magic anyway.

"Sounds neat," Naruto grinned as another of him came in with another bag.

The furniture was being delivered tomorrow so there was no point unpacking anything except the clothes. He'd never had so much new…it was overwhelming. Some clothing was still at the tailors, formal attire though why he'd need that he didn't know. And it was different to anything he'd worn, though more similar to wizarding robes than muggle clothes. He'd heard of kimono before vaguely but hadn't realised they were still worn so much. Then again this place didn't seem as modern as pictures showed Asian countries to be. He was glad he could wear the more muggle styles clothing most of the time. And at least the most formal outfit did come with a kind of pants, what had Sakura called them while he'd been trying not to trip and embarrass them all…hakama? Yeah, he really did need to start reading those new books.

And he would find a way to pay Sasuke back, even if Wizarding currency wasn't able to be exchanged for the local kind, it was still gold, silver, and bronze so it had to be worth something.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sasuke felt a little bad for how overwhelmed Harry seemed but he had needed it all so of course they would buy it. He was glad Sakura had thought of the books and wondered if Harry liked school for the work or just the escape from his relatives and…oh, friends. That could be a problem. He knew the lengths he'd go through to get back to his team, would it be the same for civilian friends? He'd have to ask Sakura since he'd never had any.

They'd have to figure out a way to help Harry make some friends in Konoha. He'd likely be exposed to the other Rookies but he wasn't a shinobi, was too old to be fully trained, and had no fellow civilian clan agemates which meant trying to find friends among the general population with nothing in common to start them off with. Or maybe Harry would be happy with just them? But then what about when they left the Village on long missions? Sure, Sasuke would hire protection but that wasn't the same as family or friends.

Why did it have to be so complicated?

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Shizune studied the results of the newest Uchiha's exam. It was basic since it had been done in their home but Sakura had done a good job. She didn't blame her for running that test multiple times, the results made no sense. But she agreed with not pushing the issues of a blood sample just yet, not when there appeared to be something traumatic tied to it.

At least all three boys were going to be in for an eye exam tomorrow. She would handle that personally if Tsunade-sama didn't, the Uchiha were rightfully picky over who could examine their eyes. Before the massacre they had their own people trained to do so to keep their secrets secure, but that wasn't possible now unless one of the cousins was interested in medicine. She doubted there'd be any issues found in Naruto-kun's exam but better to have a baseline in case something happened the Kyūbi couldn't heal.

She pulled out a new patient file and filed in the small amount of information they had on Potter Harry, adding in the test results. They'd have to ask what he was doing about his name; he could change it or perhaps use both?

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Naruto was happy the second night in the Uchiha house was a lot more peaceful. Not that he minded being woken and a nightmare was a much safer reason than an attack, but they could all use some uninterrupted sleep. Of course, it was possible Harry'd still had some and just hadn't made enough noise to wake them but…he seemed okay.

After the furniture arrived they'd be off to the hospital thanks to Shizune squeezing them in. it was like she thought they'd run or something, then again Kakashi-sensei would. Maybe they should have roped him into it too. It'd serve him right. Kakashi-sensei had at least sent a note so he knew they'd be busy, another day free from training though they'd probably end up doing something in the afternoon. Maybe start Harry's lessons? Cause he knew Sasuke was going to give him some level of training. All clan kids did, he knew that much from the others in their class, and it wasn't something even the Hokage could say no to.

Breakfast was kind of quiet and way healthier than he liked but Sakura had made it clear that Harry had to eat proper food, small amounts but frequently. Something about making sure he could handle it and Naruto didn't like that at all. Harry was Team 7 now; he was never going back to those people. Though, he probably ate okay at that school so he should be alright with proper meals quick, right? He didn't seem to have issues with eating what they did yet, though they were having to teach him to use chopsticks since they didn't seem to use them in England.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Harry sat on the chair before the desk, trying not to fidget. The hospital was very different to the hospital wing at Hogwarts, more like what he'd glimpsed on tv of hospitals though not the same, less technology and stark whiteness which was kind of nice.

Sasuke was lounging on a chair against the wall, while Naruto was still blinking a bit from the light on one of the tests. He'd gone first which had been nice, letting them see what was involved and it seemed painless enough.

The healer…Shizune, she seemed nice. Way younger than Madam Pomfrey and a lot less stern which was a nice change. He had no plans to have his own bed here!

"Look here," she murmured, and Harry did, trying not to flinch from the light.

Reading the chart…either Naruto had really great vision…or his sucked worse than he'd thought. And from the slight frown on her face, he figured it was him.

"Sakura gave you an exam with chakra yesterday, I'm going to do the same thing but focused on your eyes. It shouldn't hurt, if it does say something and I'll stop."

"Okay." He forced himself to stay still as green glowing hands ran over his eyes, that was not a comforting colour to any magical but especially him! It tingled and itched a bit but didn't hurt.

"Hmmm…"

"Is something wrong?" Sasuke asked, and Harry caught the movement of him straightening up, alert. It was weird but also kind of nice…no one reacted like that for him, not even his friends.

"There's definitely a genetic component but some of the damage is repairable. Was the lighting bad when you were younger? Did you spend a lot of time indoors or somewhere dark?"

The cupboard. He nodded, not wanting to say.

"That caused some strain to your eyes. You're also long-sighted in the left eye and short-sighted in the right, though the short-sightedness is more severe. You see better at a distance?" she asked, and Harry nodded.

That explained why he had no issues spotting the snitch across the field then but couldn't read a thing without his glasses.

"With treatment the long-sightedness can be corrected, you'll always be short-sighted to a degree though. You might not need glasses until you're older, we'll have to see how well you respond."

"No glasses?" that was a dream come true! Why couldn't magic fix his eyes but this chakra stuff could help?

"The Sharingan?" Sasuke asked softly, and Harry glanced at his cousin, the what?

"Without a blood test or him activating it, there's no way to just tell. Tsunade-hime might know more since she's treated some Uchiha over the years as well as your sensei, I'll ask her."

"What's Sharingan?" Harry asked, not liking being talked about without knowing what they were talking about.

"It is…an ability of our clan, centred on the eyes."

"It's cool but kind of creepy too," Naruto grinned at Harry.

"Um…" okay…

Sasuke sighed but then his eyes changed and Harry jerked back in his chair as his cousins' eyes went red. He froze, fighting back the memories of the Graveyard…the Ministry…

"Harry!" Naruto yelled, shaking his shoulder, and he sucked in a breath.

"Careful Naruto," Shizune chided but then a cool hand was on the back of his neck, gently pushing his head down. "Deep, slow, breaths now. It's alright, you're safe," she murmured.

"Sasuke…" Harry choked out.

There was a hesitant footstep and then his cousin was kneeling in front of him, eyes dark again. He looked torn, hands clenching and relaxing.

Harry studied his eyes, but there was nothing abnormal. "You're okay?" he whispered, and Sasuke frowned but nodded.

"The Sharingan doesn't hurt, it's a natural development for an Uchiha. It is what made our clan famous."

"Oh," Harry closed his eyes. Something more to link him to Riddle?

"Harry…did someone with eyes like Sasuke's…hurt you?" Shizune asked carefully and the room became almost suffocating with tension and anger.

"Easy Sasuke," Naruto whispered, grabbing his shoulder.

"Can you do that again?" Harry asked, he hadn't really looked, just seen red and panicked which he felt so dumb over. He didn't usually panic...then again Voldemort had never almost possessed him before this year.

Sasuke stared at him warily. "You're sure?" he asked carefully, and Harry nodded, watching as his cousin's eyes changed again, relaxing as he spotted all the difference.

"I've never seen eyes like that before," he promised.

"But you've seen…red?" Shizune asked, and Harry nodded, there was no way to get round it. But…albinos had reddish eyes and Voldemort was pale enough to count since being brought back.

"The criminal who killed my parents," he admitted. "He was why my godfather had to come…"

He heard Naruto whisper something that sounded a lot like swearing, and then Sasuke's hand was carefully resting on his arm.

"Sorry," he whispered, feeling like an idiot.

"There's nothing to be sorry for," Sasuke told him firmly. "The Sharingan lets me see things others can't, react faster, and the only reason to use it around you is to protect you Harry. You are clan, whether or not you have them or not."

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Shizune would like to ask more about what had happened to his parents and godfather but now was definitely not the time. Seemed like he could use counselling though, all of Team 7 likely could really. Although Sasuke had made a massive improvement since his return which was good. For now, they could watch and wait, see if living in another country would let him deal with whatever had happened to his family. It seemed even away from the massacre hadn't spared the Uchiha.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Naruto had a list, figured Sasuke had the same, of people back in England who needed to be permanently dealt with. He didn't like killing, thought it wasn't necessary as a first option. He'd rather talk about things or just beat sense into them like with Gaara. But the person who'd killed Harry's parents and been involved in his godfather's death…and Naruto had the feeling done something to Harry at the same time…his so-called relatives…they were all on his list. So was Itachi; Orochimaru and Kabuto had been but Sasuke had dealt with them already for himself. Hopefully the list would never need adding to but he was realistic enough to know it probably would.

At least that guy didn't have the Sharingan so they weren't dealing with another crazy Uchiha, other people could have red eyes. Like Kurenai-sensei, her eyes were red and she was a nice person according to Hinata. And hopefully it meant Harry wouldn't flinch from seeing the Sharingan now that he knew and had been able to take a good look. It'd hurt Sasuke if Harry did, because he'd hate that he was scaring his cousin who he just wanted to protect. But Harry was brave, he'd get used to it, he could tell.

By the time they left they had a schedule of appointments for Harry's treatment and it was definitely time for lunch.

TBC…

So apparently you can be both near and far sighted but not in the same eye, at least according to the websites I found. Figured it'd explain why Harry always wears glasses. Some of it's genetic and some isn't and I decided that ninja have ways of fixing that that magic doesn't. Between the day of shopping and the exam, poor Harry's a bit overwhelmed still. Considering Voldemort though, don't blame him for reacting badly to Sasuke's Sharingan. Not a medical person or a ninja so just imagine what those treatments could involve. Won't 100% fix it but will improve his vision, hope I didn't mix up far and short sighted though, I usually get them muddled.
