Hello and welcome to the next chapter of my story. I apologize that it took a bit longer to post this time. Work really kept me busy.
Don't forget to vote for who Vivi should intern with. It's in the last chapter. :)
And now have fun reading. ^^
Chapter 8. Welcome to the USJ
"Magic is not meant to be used to kill people. But without power we can't even protect the ones we love." – Mirajane Strauss
After classes of the day were finally over Vivi waits with Bubble for Hitoshi in front of the classroom. Her classmates leave one after the other. She already got the permission from Aizawa to use the P.E. Ground for training they used for the Quirk Assessment Tests on the first day of school. Of course, only after she promised him that nothing would get destroyed in the process of training. … She really hopes that she can hold that promise.
Only a few minutes of waiting are needed for Hitoshi to show up. Excited for training Vivi separates herself from the wall she leaned against and grins. "You're here! Let's go!"
Hitoshi only nods and follows the Dragon Slayer to the training ground. Both of them took a stop at the changing rooms to change into their U.A. gym uniform. He wonders what exactly she planned for their training. It's clear for him that he needs to work on combat. He will need that when he is not able to brainwash someone with his Quirk.
When they reach the P.E. Ground Vivi steps up a few feet in front of Hitoshi and turns towards him. Bubble sat himself on a bench on the side of the training field, munching on some raspberries. "All right. Attack me."
Hitoshi blinks at the Dragon Slayer, "That's it? You want me to attack you? I thought you had some kind of plan for training."
"That is my plan for training. Try to hit me. With all you've got." Vivi knows that he probably never really trained in fighting. She needs to see how bad at it he actually is, so that she can help him improve. She has gone through enough training exercises to make one for someone else. Laxus and Erza will be proud. She just shouldn't forget that Hitoshi is from this world and not as durable as she is.
That's when Hitoshi finally runs towards her, aiming for a right hook to her face. Vivi easily avoids his fist with a grin on her face and sends him flying with a roundhouse kick to his side. Wow, he really is bad. His movements were sloppy and totally predictable.
With a grunt Hitoshi lifts himself up from the ground. "What kind of training is this supposed to be?" He sits up on the ground and rubs over his side where she kicked him. Shit, that hurts.
"The one to make you stronger." She answers with a serious tone, "I promised to get you into the Hero Course and if there is one thing true to myself than it's that I always keep my promises. Just be grateful that I'm not my brother. He used to shoot me with lightning for training. And back than I wasn't able to eat it, so it actually hurt me quite a lot." Vivi remembers how Laxus's lightning almost ripped her apart from the inside when she tried to eat it for the first time because it was too strong for her to handle.
It caused her to blow up a mountain accidently when she released the power out of her body. Afterwards she was unconscious for about four days straight while her body overloaded over and over again, sending hurtful shocks throughout her body every time. She still shivers at the memory of Porlyusica yelling at her that overloading her magic was extremely dangerous and she could have died. The Dragon Slayer didn't try it again for a long time afterwards.
"Eat lightning?" he wonders, standing back up from the ground in the process.
"Yep." She pops the p. "It's part of my mag- Quirk." She catches herself last second, "I can eat the different components of a storm to give myself a powerup." Vivi takes a stance in a fighting position again, "You ready to go again?"
With a determined look on his face Hitoshi charges at the Dragon Slayer for the second time of many more to come.
On the next day after lunchbreak Aizawa stands in front of the and speaks to them, "Today's training will be a little different. You'll have three instructors. Me, All Might and another faculty member will be keeping tabs on you."
Olivia's eyebrows rise upwards. Three Pro Heroes? Could it be that the security breach yesterday wasn't caused by the media after all? Were villains involved somehow? Why else would they need that many Pros to look after one single class?
Hanta raises his hand into the air. "Sir! What kind of training is this?"
Aizawa pulls out a card with 'Rescue' written on it. "Rescue. You'll be dealing with natural disasters. Shipwrecks, stuff like that."
Interesting. So, natural disasters are something Heroes have to deal with? That's actually something I don't usually do. Fairy Tail is more the cause of natural disasters. That means I'll really learn something new that could be useful for the future. A grin takes over Vivi's face. This could be fun.
"Disasters, huh?" echoes Denki, "Sounds like we're in for a big workout."
Mina turns towards him, her excitement showing, "Totally!"
Eijiro grins, his shark-like-teeth visible, "Real hero stuff. It's what separates the men from the boys. I'm shaken with excitement."
"Finally, I'll get to show off how good I am in water, ribbit." Remarks Tsuyu.
"Guys, I'm not finished yet." Disturbs Aizawa the excitement, "What you wear in this exercise is up to you. I know you're excited about costumes," he presses the button on a remote, causing the costume cases in the wall to come out, "but keep in mind that you haven't gotten used to them yet and they might limit your abilities. This training is at an off-campus facility, so we'll be taking a bus to get there. That's all, start getting ready."
The class follows Aizawa's instruction and makes their way to the changing rooms. Shortly afterwards and clothed in her hero costume the Dragon Slayer stands in front of the monstruous constructure that is apparently called a 'bus'. With her face as white as a sheet she stares at it.
Oh no, that definitely looks like some kind of vehicle. "Please don't tell me we have to go on this thing?" she whines. The Dragon Slayer has been lucky so far and never had to use modes of transportation since coming to this world. But it seems like her luck finally run out.
Aizawa, who is standing beside her, glances at her and answers with a dry voice, "You do."
"Please don't make me, Aizawa-sensei!" she pleads, "I can run!"
His right eyebrow raises up after she spoke. "You don't even know where you are supposed to go."
"Then I can fly there with Bubble and just follow the bus!" The mage intertwines her hands in front of herself, like someone would do when praying and tries to convince him once more "Pleeeease~".
"Stop whining and get on the bus, Moon. I'll drag you in there if I have to." His tone of voice says clearly that he's not tolerating any more objections.
With a defeated sight she moves into the bus, knowing fully well he will make his threat a reality if she refuses any more. Vivi gives Bubble a head massage with her fist in the meantime, who decided to erupt into laughter at her suffering. "Shut it, you idiotic cat!" The Exceed breaks free from her grasps by slipping out from between her arms and flies into the bus before her while continuing to cackle.
Grumbling curse words to herself Vivi lets herself sink into a seat besides Toru and whispers, "I'm gonna die."
Bubble has decided to abandon her and made it himself comfortable on Shoto's head, enjoying the perfect combination of a heat and cooling plate. The dual-haired boy sits at the window seat in the row behind Vivi. Shoto, who can guess where the sudden weight on his head comes from, pats the Exceeds head with a small smile that only holds on for a second.
The invisible girl looks at Vivi in question, of course no one can actually see the questioning look on her face. "What's wrong?"
The mage just waves her off with her hand, gesturing her to not bother herself with it. In the exact moment the bus begins to drive the Dragon Slayer turns green and almost falls face first into the seat before her. "Katsuki," she begins in a weak, pleading voice, "please knock me out."
Said angry blond, who has the seat in front of her, turns around towards her and lifts an eyebrow at her miserable figure. He almost growls at her, "What the fuck are you saying, Storm Freak?"
"You wanted to knock me out before, right? Now you have the chance. I won't even fight back." She tells him in a weak voice, before clasping her hands above her mouth, trying to keep herself from throwing up.
Katsuki just grins evil, "No way in hell! It's much more fun seeing you in this misery, Weakling."
"Fuck you, you Bastard." she curses weakly as another wave of nausea overcomes her. She can barely concentrate on the voice of her classmates over Katsuki shooting another insult at her and her motion sickness. They started talking about their Quirks a few moments before.
"My naval laser's got the perfect amount of panache and strength!" speaks Yuga then, with whom she still can't get over the fact that he has Zeref's voice.
"Yeah, but it's way to lame if it gives you a stomach ache sweetie." Responses Mina with a hand on the blond boy's shoulder, causing him to sulk.
Eijiro looks towards the back of the bus, were the classmates sit he mentions in his next sentence, "Well, if any of our classmates have pro Quirks, it's Todoroki, Bakugo, and Vivi."
"Sure, but Bakugo's always angry so he'll never be that popular." states Tsuyu.
Katsuki rises up from his seat and yells at her, only proving her point, "You Bitch! I'll be popular too!"
Denki speaks up now, "You know, we basically just met you, so it's kind of telling that we all know your personality is flaming crap mixed with garbage."
Katsuki's attention travels from Tsuyu to Denki immediately. "You're gonna regret the day you applied to this school, you loser! I'll kill you!" shouts Katsuki once again, causing the ears of the girl behind him to ring from the noise.
"Shut up, Hedgehog." Grunts Vivi, who is barely able to look up at him before she has to clasp her hands above her mouth once again. Her responds made everyone look at the Dragon Slayer and notice the awful condition she is in.
Most of them look concerned at her appearance and Ochaco is the one to ask, "Will you be all right, Vivi?"
"Just great." Responses the mage weakly, leaning her green forehead against the seat in front of her. "My Quirk just gives me a really bad case of motion sickness and I feel like I'm gonna die."
Almost everyone looks at the Dragon Slayer with understanding and worry. "I guess every Quirk has some kind of drawback." Points Eijiro out.
"Hey, hey, we're here." Disturbs Aizawa the conversation, "Stop messing around."
When the bus finally comes to a stop shortly afterwards Vivi immediately jumps up from her seat and runs outside where she falls to the ground in relief. "I'm finally free!" cheers the Dragon Slayer loudly, still a little bit of green colour on her face.
Aizawa, who stepped out of the bus behind her just sights at her behaviour. The class that followed behind him sweatdrops. I really need a raise. … And a least two gallons of black coffee.
In front of the building many members of the class stare at the person already standing there in awe. It's a person who is dressed in a spacesuit. "Hello everyone! I've been waiting for you."
Vivi doesn't know who she is, but luckily, they have Izuku who is like a walking encyclopaedia when it comes to knowledge on Pro Heroes. "It's the Space Hero: Thirteen!" gasps Izuku in excitement, "The chivalrous Pro who's rescued a ton of people from disasters across the world!"
Ochaco starts cheering, "Woohoow! Thirteen is one of my favourite heroes!"
The Pro Hero in the Spacesuit points towards the facility. "I can't wait to show you what's inside."
"This is gonna be awesome." Chorus most of the class and follows the hero inside of the facility.
Vivi's eyes fly around when they stepped into it, gazing at everything in awe. From what she can tell the facility seems to consist of six different areas. Every one of them seems to focus on some other natural disaster. Wow, this seems like a really good place to train. Natsu would love this. She thinks after spotting an area that is completely on fire. There's also one with a violent rainstorm, but the Dragon Slayer doubts she will be sent there since Aizawa won't make it that easy for her.
Eijiro also looks around the facility in amazement, "Holy crap! It looks like some kind of amusement park."
"A shipwreck, a landslide, a fire, a windstorm, etcetera." Thirteen stands with her back to the class and spreads her arms out, "I created this training facility to prepare you to deal with different types of disasters. I call it the Unforeseen Simulation Joint. But you can call it USJ!"
Most of the class's faces turn expressionless at Thirteens words. Vivi notices it but doesn't understand why they react like this. Was something Thirteen said strange?
Aizawa steps up towards his fellow Pro Hero. "Hey, shouldn't All Might be here already? Let me guess, he booked an interview instead."
"Actually, it's something else." Responses Thirteen and closes some distance between herself and Aizawa. Thanks to her heightened senses Vivi is still able to hear what she says next, when the hero continues to talk more quietly, "Apparently, he did too much hero work on his way to school this morning and used up all his power. He's resting in the teacher's lounge."
Vivi narrows her eyes slightly when she notices Thirteen holds up three fingers at the end of her explanation. Three? Does this mean All Might already used his powers for three hours on his way to school? He said three hours is his limit. That means he already used up his stamina for today. No wonder he has to rest.
"That man is the height of irresponsibility." Remarks Aizawa silently. Afterwards he turns to the class, speaking in full volume again, "Clock's ticking, we should get started."
"Excellent," speaks the Space Hero up again, "Before we begin let me just say one thing, well, maybe two things, possibly three, four, or five-"
The class interrupts the teacher with a groan. "We get it."
She catches herself and continues to speak, "Listen carefully. I'm sure you're aware that I have a powerful Quirk. It's called 'Black Hole'. I can use it to suck up anything and turn it into dust."
"Yeah, you've used Black Hole to save people from all kinds of disasters before, haven't you?" responses Izuku. Ochaco next to him nods energetically in agreement.
"That's true, but my Quirk could also very easily be used to kill." She reminds, causing most members of the class to gasp. "Some of you also have powers that can be dangerous. In our superhuman society all Quirks are certified and strictly regulated, so we often overlook how unsafe they can actually be. Please don't forget that if you lose focus or make the wrong move, your powers can be deadly. Even if you're trying to do something virtuous like rescue someone."
The Dragon Slayer thinks about Thirteens words. What she said is not new to her. Magic can also easily be used to kill. It isn't meant for it, but that doesn't change the fact that it can. No one in Fairy Tail ever liked killing, but they also know that there's just no way around it sometimes. They were definitely prepared to kill Zeref and the Spriggan 12 if necessary.
Vivi actually hates noting more than taking someone's life away. What gives someone the right to kill? What justifies it? Who decides when it was the right thing to do or not? No, Vivi never wanted to kill ever in her life … but she still did. She killed the tenth Gate of Tartaros. Of course, you could justify that one by saying it was a demon that wanted to overthrow humanity. Doesn't change the fact that it was still a living being with heartbeat. There was also something that happened when she was younger. Because of a mistake the Dragon Slayer ended up killing someone. An incident that hunts her since that day and will continue to hunt her for the rest of her life.
Thankfully, Thirteen continues to talk and prevents Vivi's thoughts from going somewhere she doesn't want them to go. "Thanks to Aizawa's fitness tests, you have a solid idea of your Quirk's potential. And because of All Might's combat training, you likely experienced how dangerous your powers can be when used against other people. Carry those lessons over to this class. Today, you're going to learn how to use your Quirks to save people's lives. You won't be using your powers to attack enemies or each other, only to help. After all, that's what being a hero is all about, ensuring the safety of others." Thirteen bows to the class. "That's all I have to say, thank you so much for listening." At the end of her speech the class erupts into applause and cheering.
"Right. Now that that's over-" Aizawa gets interrupted when the lights of the facility suddenly start to flicker with electricity and shut off.
Vivi stiffens on instinct. A strange scent makes its way up her nose, letting her narrow her eyes on alert. She focuses them on the plaza below them. In front of the fountain of the plaza appears a purple vortex. A hand slowly makes its way out of it, followed by the person it belongs to, that has another loose hand attached to his face.
"Stay together and don't move!" instructs Aizawa. His eyes shoot towards Vivi, who stepped up beside him. Her eyes are focused on the masses of villains that make their way out of the portal, a storm seems to brew in them.
These are real villains. She realises, sensing the blood lust coming from the people in waves. Her eyes turn back onto her classmates behind her, who don't seem to realize the seriousness and danger of the situation. Bubble is still clutching himself to Shoto's head, his big eyes on the villains below. I have to protect them. The only thing on her mind in that moment is that she has to keep her friends, her newfound family safe from the threat below them. With the eyes of a protective, vicious dragon she takes a step forward only to be stopped by Aizawa grabbing her arm. She looks at him in confusion.
The Pro Hero shakes his head lightly, "Stay here and protect the other students. I'll go down there." He speaks in a low voice, the other students and hero not able to hear him. Before Vivi can protest Aizawa continues by turning towards his fellow Pro, "Thirteen, protect the students!"
"Whoa, what is that thing?" asks Eijiro when he notices the people coming out of the portal on the plaza. "Wait, has the training started already? I thought we were rescuing people?"
"More like rescue ourselves." Mumbles Vivi, her eyes still focused on the villains on the plaza.
To get a better look Izuku steps forwards, causing Aizawa to yell, "STAY BACK!" His teachers loud voice makes Izuku flinch and stop in his movement. The Pro Hero places the goggles hanging around his neck over his eyes. "This is real. Those are villains." These words make everyone gasp and tense up, fear spreading through the group of students.
"The only real heroes I see are Thirteen and Eraser Head." Thanks to her good ears Vivi can hear a voice that seems to come directly from the portal, while more and more villains step out of it. One of them is looking more like a monster than anyone else. A big, gross looking creature with a beak and an exposed brain. "Perplexing, according to the schedule we retrieved from U.A. All Might should be here as well." Continues the voice, the portal changing its shape, making two yellow glowing slits appear at the top.
Vivi clenches her hands to fists at her sides. So, these villains used the commotion with the reporters yesterday to steal the teaching schedule. But why are they here? The Dragon Slayer lets her eyes roam over the villains. She can tell that most of them don't seem to have much experience with fights from the way they look around and hold themselves. They look like nothing more than thugs. But her classmates don't have experience with something like this either. The big number of villains also won't make this easier.
Aizawa comes to the same conclusion Vivi did. "So, you scum-bags used the press as a cover and sneaked onto campus." He speaks more to himself than anyone else.
"Where is he?" questions the person who came out the portal first with a raspy voice. He has pale-blue hair and hands attached to different parts of his body besides the one covering his face. "I went through the trouble of bringing so many friends who are eager to meet him. They want All Might. The great Symbol of Peace. I can't believe he's not here. Maybe if I kill a few kids, he'll come out to play."
The words of the villain answer the question Vivi asked herself. All Might? So that's why they're here. Since he said he brought the other villains along, he also seems to be the leader.
"What? Real villains? No way." Eijiro looks at his teacher in fear, hoping he was just joking. But his teacher's stiff stance tells him otherwise. "How could so many of them get into a U.A. facility that's so secure?"
"Yeah, Thirteen, why aren't the alarms going off?" adds Momo her question.
"Good question." Responses the Space Hero, a nervous tone in her voice because of the whole situation, "I'm not sure."
"Is the entire campus under attack or is this their only target?" Shoto observes the villains on the plaza, appearing calmer than the rest of the class. Bubble, who is still lying on his head looks scared. "Either way, if the alarms sensors aren't being triggered, then one of these villains must have a Quirk that's masking their presence here. They carefully chose this isolated facility as an entry point at a time that a class was being taught. They're fools for trespassing here, but they've thought this out. Whatever their plan, they must have a concrete objective in mind, but what is it?"
"They are here for All Might." Explains Vivi, causing everyone to look at her and noticing her calmly gazing at the villains below for any kind of wrong movement. "They got their hands on the teaching schedule and knew he was supposed to be here. Probably yesterday during the commotion caused by the reporters. It was a good cover up." The Dragon Slayer can't hide her tenseness besides her calm posture. She clenches her teeth. There is no way I will let them kill anyone. Not on my watch.
"Thirteen, get them out of here and alert the main campus." commands Aizawa. "Actually, if they've got the ability to block our sensors, then they might be jamming our regular communications too. Kaminari, try using your Quirk to contact the school." Aizawa's gaze is still focused on the villains while talking to the boy.
"Yes, Sir!" responses Denki, reaching for the earpiece covering his right ear.
"What are you gonna do?" Izuku asks worried, "You can't fight them on your own! There's too many of them. Even if you can nullify their Quirks your fighting style isn't suited for this. Your power works best in stealth and one-on-one fights. That's not gonna help with a group."
Vivi rolls her eyes at that. "Have some faith in our Sensei, Izuku. He's not a Pro Hero for nothing." Still, she thinks, I can't help but worry, even though I know he is strong. I just have a bad feeling about all of this.
"You can't be a Pro if you only have one trick," replies Aizawa, "I'll leave it to you Thirteen." With that the Underground Hero jumps right into the horde of villains below, ready to fight them all on his own.
The class watches in awe as Aizawa starts to knock out one villain after the next with ease, keeping them from using their Quirks with his own and using his capture scarf as a support weapon. Thirteen begins to lead the class towards the exit. Only Vivi and Izuku stay behind, their eyes still on their homeroom teacher. One pair in awe and one in worry. "Woah, he's holding them off," Izuku stares in admiration at Aizawa fighting on the plaza, "I guess I shouldn't have underestimated him."
Tenya notices that they stayed behind and calls out toward them, "This is no time to be analysing! We have to go!"
Vivi remembers Aizawas words 'Protect the other students.' With her eyes clothed in shadows, lightning beginning to crackle in them, she nods to herself. All right. I'll trust you down there, Aizawa. She takes off with Izuku to follow the rest of the class.
Only a few steps later the purple portal from below appears in front of them. Immediately Vivi rushed forward to place herself next to Thirteen in front of her classmates. Izuku blinks and looks at the place next to him where she was just seconds ago. How did she move that fast? She wasn't that fast in the Quirk Assessment Tests. The rest of the class doesn't seem to have noticed her fast movements, too focused on the purple mist appearing out of nowhere.
"There is no escape for you." Begins the portal to speak, while shaping more into the form of a person, "It's a pleasure to meet you. We are the League of Villains. I know it's impolite, but we decided to invite ourselves into this haven of justice to say hello. And besides, isn't this a fitting place for All Might, the Symbol of Peace, to take his last breath? I believe he was supposed to be here today and yet I see no sign of him. There must have been some sort of change in plans we could not have foreseen. Ah, well, in the end I suppose it doesn't matter, I still have a role to play."
Storm clouds begin to flicker along Vivi's hands. So, villains are really just like dark mages. They like to monologue just as much. Besides her Thirteen also decides to take actions and points her hand towards the villain, one of the caps on her fingers opening in the process. But before they are able to actually do anything Katsuki and Eijiro already jumped towards the purple guy. A large explosion is set off, covering parts of the area in smoke.
"Did you think we were just gonna stand around and let you tear this place to shreds?" questions Eijiro, the smoke around them already starting to clear.
"You live up to your school's reputation," acknowledges the villain who was completely unfaced by the attack, "but you should be more careful, children. Otherwise, someone might get hurt."
Oh no, you don't. Without hesitation Vivi launches herself at the villain. Storm Dragon's Crushing Lightning Claw! The Dragon Slayer cloaks her right hand in black storm clouds filled with lightning and slashes her hand at the villain in a claw-like fashion, aiming at the silver neck piece she noticed when he was busy avoiding her classmates' attacks. She hits him, sending the villain flying. Nice! That really was part of his real body.
Sadly, he doesn't take long to recover and rises up from the ground, once again taking shape. "That was not nice." He remarks.
"You three! Get out of the way right now!" commands the Space Hero, her finger aimed at the villain.
"I'll scatter you across this facility to meet my comrades and your deaths!" The villain spreads the purple mist out that comes out of him, swallowing the class with it. Vivi finds herself clothed in darkness and the next thing she knows is that she feels herself falling. A few seconds later heat envelopes her form.
The Dragon Slayer lands swiftly on the ground, catching herself in a crouched figure. Looking around shows her that she finds herself in the conflagration zone and no one else is with her. The only thing surrounding her are flames, destroyed buildings and a mass of villains. A toothy grin spreads along her face. She brings her closed fists together before she takes a fighting stance, "Show me what you've got. I'm all fired up."
