Chapter8: Blast from the past
Once again Zenigata found himself at his desk doing paperwork. Both Lupin and Carmen were being uncharacteristically quiet. That never boded well for Lupin's gang, it usually meant a large job was in the planing stages. But Carmen was different. She came up with crazy elaborate thefts and in what would seem like no time at all. The one difference to his manotany was he was getting notifications and updates on his computer from Crime Net. He could have sworn he had only been given access to Carmen's file nothing more. And it was NOT about Carmen he could tell by just a glance. On the third day he let out a hefty sigh and decided to read what ever it was his computer deemed oh so important.
Clicking on the notification a new file came up.
"Gunner Maelstrom?" He read the name out loud. Dude looked like he had seen better days. Looked like he hadn't groomed himself for the better half of a decade. As he read taking a break from the tedious paper work he noticed Carmen and CHIEF had put him behind bars once and were again credited with his recapture years later. But the dates didn't line up as at the time of his recapture Carmen would have already been a thief and for a good number of years. Zenigata huffed and and closed the window assuming it was a glitch or something.
"HEY! What was that for?" Came the familiar voice of the CHIEF from his computer.
"I don't have time to deal with your glitches. Fix your servers." He growled back at his computer.
"What are you talking about? My servers R pristine!" The AI shot back.
"Oh really then how do you have Carmen listed as arresting that guy again when she was clearly a thief at that time, hm?" The inspector retorted.
"Does is say arresting OFFICER?" CHIEF used digital hands to drag the window open again and stretch big the part about Maelstrom's second arrest. Looking over it again, Zenigata saw it did not use the term 'aresting officer' when referring to Carmen regarding her involvement in his second capture. He scowled, but it still made no sense.
"So?! I don't understand by you're even bothering me with this." No sooner had he said those words then CHIEF literally stuck a new add to the file, coming off the screen completely as he was want to do, in the inspector's face. It read: Escaped four days ago.
"Ok, I still don't see what this has to do with me?" The AI rolled his digetal eyes at that comment, was he really so dense?
"You're after Carmen now, for wherever reason..." He began, clearly still a tad salty, but Interpol out ranked ACME, so what could he do? "Maelstrom HATES Carmen. And I mean with a capital H.A.T.E.! HATE! So I'm giving you a heads up. Maelstrom is unhinged and bent on exacting revenge on Carmen. He tried last time, and almost succeeded. Carmen probably already knows." He continued. "But last time he wasted no time in going after her. So this inactivate is unusual. Just keep your head on a swivel there. You are in as much danger as she is, if not more just by virtue of being law enforcement on her tail. Ya know you can always just let us handle it. We have dealt with Maelstrom before." CHIEF added, trying to get Carmen's case back to his detectives. He was now largely being ignored by Zenigata.
"Sorry I have actual work to do, good bye." And with that he shut the monitor off so he at least would not have to deal with the AI staring at him and pouting. He didn't see how anyone could deal with such a personality.

Carmen was sitting at her desk in her Swiss hideout tapping her fingers on her desk.
"What is he planing?" Carmen knew that Maelstrom had escaped, he didn't even try to fake his death like before. She knew he was too obsessed to give up on his revenge against her.
"How could they let this happen? Again! He's old but that doesn't mean he's soft." She said to herself and she began to work on her computer to try and distract herself. And it was time to plan out another theft. She was starting to get restless, witch was part of why she switched teams to begin with.
Some hours later:
Carmen sat back in her chair and stretched her arms over her head.
"That should be good for now." She yawned, and got up to go to bed.

Lupin was just lounging about with Jigen and Goemon. He was actually enjoying the break and not having to worry about Zenigata popping up out of no where to pester him. Maybe he would try something soon, or maybe he would wait till they were bone dry on funds. He hadn't decided yet. But he had decided it would be big enough to toss all thoughts of that sneaky Carmen out the window. Or so he would like to believe. He sometimes forgot how competitive and proud she was. If he tried anything more then a simple robbery for money and the like, she would see that as a challenge. This woman would steal monuments on the regular just because she could.
Sorry that took so long to get out. How come I can't break 1,000 words. That's all I want. Hopefully my next one I can make it a bit longer. And hopefully it won't take as long. I have a bit of an idea of what to do, but I am open to ideas if anyone has some.
