Embry had just intercepted Alice, as she was heading back to the Cullen house with Charlie, she had made a U-turn and he wondered if she saw that they were coming–then he remembered that she had mentioned just before Bella had gone to "rescue Edward". Bella was blurry around them; she couldn't see anything revolving around his Pack, and for once he was thankful.
Charlie was on his way to the hospital and as much as it was supposed to soothe him, it only had him more on edge. He could hear Edward's crooning voice as he launched himself through the living room window. Glass shards cut into his skin and he shook his fur out as he snapped his massive jaws in Edward's direction. Licking his lips, he snarled, standing over Bella as Edward threw himself into the far wall.
His eyes were wild as he regarded Jacob. "I don't know what she told you, I was trying to help her. She called me saying that she still wanted to be with me."
A deep menacing growl escaped his throat as he snarled, taking one step towards him. He could hear his Pack behind him in the tree line, but they knew that Edward was his kill. Marble palms held upright in a surrender position as Jacob stalked forward.
You never were a good liar, Cullen. Don't worry, we took care of your sister.
He pushed the memory of Embry snarling over Alice's doll-like form; her eyes wild as she pleaded with him. Edward snarled and lunged at the picture of Embry ripping her head from her body. Jacob's teeth snapped as they locked around his right arm, tossing him back through the shattered window before lunging after him.
The living room was not big enough for the fight that was going to ensue and he didn't want to risk hurting Bella more than she already was.
The metallic tang of blood tingled his nose as it hung in the air and he struggled to focus. Her gasping breaths were distracting him. LEAH.
She understood what he was saying and he watched her stride forward as he kept himself between Edward and the house. His arm was shattered, hanging delicately by a few strands of glass skin. He was ready for more, but Jacob let him have the first move: he knew he would have been able to see what Jacob planned anyways.
Edward launched himself forward, and Jacob went to spin before he felt two hands around his front leg. A popping sound rang in his ears as he snarled and spun around, his teeth grasping onto anything that they could. A flash of white in his vision sent him spinning around to his left, catching his leg between his teeth. Edward let out a yell as he was drug backward, the loud sound of shattering crystal splitting through the air.
Edward kicked him in the snout with his other leg, but Jacob didn't let go. Instead, he let the momentum of Edwards's kick completely dislodge his leg from his torso as he pushed himself toward the trees.
Edward was clawing his way into the forest before Quil and Paul blocked his way, towering over him as they snarled down at him.
"Chief?"
Jacob was already walking towards them, thinking of all of the ways that he could end his life knowing that Edward could see every single one of them in his mind. He didn't want this to be slow, no–he wanted it to be painful, for him to suffer the same way that he had made Bella suffer.
Don't kill him, let his body get right where they think they're reforming and then I want you to rip him to pieces again. And again. After you feel like he has suffered for everything that he did to her, call me. I'll finish it. I want the last thing that the bloodsucker sees to be me.
With that he turned on his heel and shifted, landing painfully on his knees as the pain of his shoulder finally caught up to him. It didn't matter. None of it mattered. He heard Bella's faltering heartbeat inside and he pulled himself up, running towards the house. Leah tossed him a blanket when he got closer and he finally took a look at her.
She was pale; painfully more so than usual. Her nose was bleeding and her hair was wild against the hardwood floors. There were bruises all down her arms, and handprints and fingertips burned into her skin. Reminders that he had hoped she would never see again.
Her breathing was stuttering and he heard her heartbeat; wild and erratic inside her ribcage. He bent down, lifting her delicate head into his huge palms as he whispered to her, his forehead pressed against hers. "Come on sweetheart, you have to stay with me."
His hands felt wet and he pulled it back to see that she was bleeding and he quickly scooped her up, one arm beneath her legs as he carried, running towards Seth's truck.
His arm was throbbing in pain as he set her gently down into the truck. "Hurry up and head towards the hospital, there is something I gotta take care of." He spun around and ran towards the trees where the faint sound of screaming was heard. He grabbed Edwards disconnected head and chucked it into the house.
Walking into the garage, he punched a hole into the car, exposing the gas tank as it poured onto the cement. He flicked open his lighter and chucked it behind him as he heard it ignite.
As he walked down the driveway, he took one last glance at the house that had almost made his whole world burn.
He took off running, still faintly hearing the sound of the truck as he caught up to it. Grabbing onto the tail end with his good arm, he vaulted himself into the back of it before tapping on the partition glass.
Seth opened it looking pale as his worried eyes met his. "She's not doing too good, Jake." Jacob reached around and opened the truck door, sliding smoothly (even with a fucked up arm) into the truck. He needed to reset it. He was already healing. With a pop he lodged his shoulder back into place as he bit down on his lip.
Copper danced across his tongue as blood spilled into his mouth. He pushed it to the side and pulled Bella into his lap. Seth was right, she was losing too much blood from her head. Jacob cursed and grabbed the jacket that was on the seat, pressing it to the back of her head. "Press on it, Seth."
Suddenly they were flying down the road, as Jacob pressed his hand against her head listening to the sound of her fading heartbeat against his chest.
