Surprisingly after everything Charles's injuries were fairly minimal and he was discharged a week after arriving in Birmingham. He had been referred for physio at Headly court as he had aggravated his old injury of his leg as well as sustaining bruising on his spine. Thankfully his parents Anne and Henry had driven up from Bath the night before to take him and Molly home which was far easier than squashing in to 2 cramped trains in rush hour on a Friday. And a small taxi on each end getting to and from the station. At least in the car they could take breaks at the service stations on the motorway or in little towns if they went the long way for more stops if needed
Sitting on the edge of the bed Charles was drumming his fingers frustratedly on the table. He just wanted to get out and home.
"Mum Quit fussing" Charles snapped at Ann who was checking the cupboards and under the bed for the umpteenth time
"i was just making sure you had got everything; we don't want to get all the way to Bristol for you to realise you have forgotten something and left something behind."
"Well don't" he snapped.
Molly turned looking out the window, she watched as the Air ambulance landed on the roof of the carpark opposite. She watched as the paramedics along with the fire service unloaded the casualty and wheeled the gurney in to the lifts.
After several hours of waiting for the final discharge papers to be signed by the doctor and pain meds to be delivered from the pharmacy they were finally allowed to leave. Reluctantly Charles climbed in to the provided wheelchair and allowed his father to push it down the long corridor to the lift banks that would take them straight down to the atrium.
So, they didn't have to take the wheelchair all the way to the carpark and bring it all the way back Charles's dad left the three of them in the atrium whilst he went to the car to bring it up to the parking bays on the front
Looking around Molly rolled her shoulders there were grey clouds forming outside and the weather looked like it might snow despite it only being the first week in November.
"I'm just going to grab a hot chocolate for the road" Molly smiled weakly "do you want anything" she asked.
"Just a tea will do me love" Anne smiled "let me give you something"
"it's fine I got it." Molly smiled "Charles?"
"Just a coffee" he said
Once she had ordered the drinks, she turned watching Charles bat Anne away as she tried to pull his coat around his shoulders. Picking the drinks up she walked back towards Charles.
"Here we are" she forced a smile "Earl Gray tea for you" she said handing Anne her cup "and a American for you" she said handing Charles a small cup
"They run out of large or something Dawsey" Charles asked
"No, but you said that this coffee was crap and we are getting in the car soon any larger and we will have to stop before we even hit the M5" Molly said taking a sip of her own hot chocolate.
"humph" Charles grumbled
Climbing in to the back of the Car Molly sat behind Charles's dad who was driving. Charles was sat in the front as that gave him the extra leg room for the 3-hour car ride back to Bath. Clipping her belt in molly staired out of her window watching the grey skies of the city as they slowly made their way towards the motorway.
The traffic was slow moving all the way to the motorway with all the commuters leaving the city and heading home after a busy day in the city. And even once they made it to the motorway the traffic was crawling all the way as far as the eye could see. It was a mix of the rush hour traffic and a accident that had happened at the next junction up.
Resting her head against her shoulder molly yawned the slow-moving red break lights and then the steady stream of head lights coming towards her was making her sleepy. Closing her eyes she was surprised how easy she fell asleep.
She woke in what felt not too long later by the bright of the lighting over the carriageway. As she woke, she could hear Charles talking with his mum. Keeping her eyes closed she listened in
"what's up with you and molly?" Anne asked
"Leave it mother" Charles sighed pushing back in his seat.
"You hardly said 2 words to her all the time we were in the hospital and you were very rude about the coffee"
"Mum!" Charles sighed frustrated as he was unable to look at his mum due to her being sat right behind him
"Look all I am saying she is the best thing to happen to you. Don't be stupid and ruin it all by bottling things up"
"i know mum" he sighed looking in the mirror in his visor at molly. "it's just not that simple" he said. He hated himself for everything that had happened, he just hoped that things could improve and they could go back to everything the way it was
Deciding she had eavesdropped enough Molly yawned rolling her shoulders trying to remove the deep seeded knot that had formed from sleeping in the car
"Where are we?" she asked blinking in the change of light
"Just pulling in to the services love, I thought we could do with a leg stretch and a drink"
After a short stop to get a Drink, they were soon back on the road and it was another 40 minutes before they reached home. Unclipping her belt Molly climbed out of the car and pulled her bags from the boot as Charles climbed out struggling on his crutches.
Dumping the bags in the hall molly walked in to the kitchen flicking the switch on the kettle. Charles followed her in
"Drink?" she asked Charles
"Molly, we need to talk about everything" Charles said limping in to the kitchen
"Not to night I am shattered."
"Molly..."
"I'll stay in the spare room tonight after everything" molly paused
"You don't have to" Charles said softly
"i know but it's going to be easier if I do" she said heading up the stairs
Turning down the duvet on the bed in the spare room molly sighed as she slid under the covers. Having him back just across the hall was going to be tough. She wanted to scream, to yell. Even to hate him just a little for everything but her heart was having a argument with itself and was refusing to allow her to. It had been bruised and hurt before but her heart didn't want to believe he had done it on purpose.
i am so sorry its taken so long. i am so behind on this fic its just taken ages to get this to feel right. i hope you like it
