As the night danced on the sky became alight with streams of magic. Harry had seen more people die in the space of a few hours than he had in his fifteen years alive. He was about to give up on finding Voldemort when the atmosphere of the battle changed. The Death eater began to fall back and a voice entered everyone's head as the light grabbed their heads in pain. A snakelike voice danced across the battle.

"Your efforts are valiant; your order has protected you thus far which is amicable. Yet you are outnumbered, my death eaters will soon take over the castle. So, I give you this opportunity now, tend to your wounded, treat your dead. Now Harry Potter I speak directly to you, through our various meetings I have given you opportunities to join the cause but you have chosen the wrong path. So, I now give you the opportunity to do as you wished, save your family and all you have to do is one thing. One simple thing... meet me in the forest at midnight. If you do not do this then my army will storm the castle and kill every last man, woman and child that stands in our way. You choose how this can end Potter."

The effect was immediate, the tide of students and staff turned to him like he was a monster. Like he was the reason that their friends and colleges were dead. Harry sighed, he ignored their glares and walked further into the castle to find his family.

He found them stood in a huddle, discussing something in hushed tones. Tones that stopped after they saw Harry approach. Petunia was the first to get to him, she pulled him into a hug.
"Oh, my boy, my sweet boy," she murmured. Harry drank in her appearance, she seemed like she had aged a decade since he saw her fighting. A cut had appeared across her right eyebrow and her hands had dried blood edged around her fingers.

"Harry, darling you must run" she insisted. Harry looked down; he could feel the glare of his aunt. As if she was baiting him to disagree with her. Harry looked up and past her towards his godfather who too had the same look as his aunt.

We knew this was going to happen

Remus took a step forward, placing a hand on Harry's shoulder.
"You don't have to do this Harry"
I do

Remus sighed
"This is suicide, I won't let you go. I did not raise you just to die Harry" Remus argued. Harry bristled

You didn't raise me; I have always been a pawn. Let me do the thing I was born to do

Petunia shook her head; she grabbed his shoulders.
"No, you do not get to die before me. Please, Harry, I can't lose you to" Harry could feel himself break at the tremor in Petunia's voice. The woman was the only mother he had known and whilst she may not have always been the best, she had always loved him. She had left everything behind when she realised the danger he was in and she had fought in a war to protect his people when she detested the magical world. He pulled her into a hug.

I have to finish what my mum started aunt Petunia. I have to end this. I promise that I will try to come back but I have to end this.

"Your job is to be a kid Harry. It's our job to end this war. My decisions led me to lose twelve years with you. I will not let you die, Harry." Sirius tried to stand tall by his statement but as he moved forward his feet got stuck, Harry smiled at them and began walking backwards. Smiling sadly as his guardians became rooted to the spot.

I love you guys. Thank you for loving me... I'm sorry.

Harry turned around, ignoring their screams of protest.

It was dark when Harry reached the entrance to the forest, he stared back towards the school where he had been fighting. The entire castle seemed to be blanketed by the night, a dark sight. He then stared back to the forest entrance. He knew what he had to do. He had been building towards it for the past few weeks, slowly isolating his friends and family. Slowly isolating Ginny, breaking her heart so that she would let him go. He was surprised that he had gotten away with it, she was usually a lot more insistent when he pushed her away. Yet it seemed the war had affected her too for she had begun to lose the fire that she possessed. He knew he was doing the right thing for if he was willing to die then the world could be saved. His friends and family would be safe. He was doing the right thing, he had to be. So, with a heavy heart, he stepped through the wards and towards his ultimate death.

Trying to pretend he didn't see a small figure running to him from behind.

Ginny Weasley was runny, running faster than she had ever run before. Once she read the letter she knew where she had to be, so George had Apparated her to the castle. Yet when she got there, she found the news she was praying she wouldn't hear. When she learned where he was going, she took off running, praying she would get there in time. As she saw the entrance to the forest, she began screaming his name, only for him to ignore her. She cursed him as she ran faster, hoping to stop him before he crossed the border. She was not going to lose him to a suicide mission. Yet the closer she got to the edge the further he slipped from view. As she got to the entrance she lost her view of him entirely, so she screamed for him. A heart-wrenching scream, only he didn't reply and that was when she knew. She knew that her love would have never been enough, that the Harry she fell in love with was gone. In his place stood the one thing she hoped he would never be. A Martyr.
