The forest was dark, creepily so and as Harry walked over the fallen brambles and benches he wondered if he was doing the right thing. The wizarding world would have him crucified for simply existing and yet here he was willing to die for them. Well, more for certain members of them. The closer he got to his death the more he remembered his girlfriend. The one girl who believed in him against all the odds and he knew he had to continue. He could not let her live in a world where people were killed for existing. So, he continued walking until he found Voldemort and in the inner circle. As he walked towards them the wizards turned to him, grinning. Voldemort opened his arms grinning.
"Mister Potter, what a pleasure," he said. Harry said nothing in return, making a few death eaters uneasy.
"You know why I called you here tonight?" Voldemort asked. Harry nodded, seeing a few death eater's grins. It seemed their master would win tonight after all. Harry walked through the throngs of black robes into Voldemort's space.
You wish to kill me, do you not? Voldemort smiled, yellow teeth shining in the moonlight.
"No young Harry... I wish to offer you one last lifeline. Join me, I can see to it that you and your pretty little redhead are safe. That you are well looked after. You can live out your lives together like I know you so desperately wish to do." Harry bristled at Voldemort's offer, not because he was mortified at the idea but because he actually wanted to accept. He didn't want to fight anymore. He just wanted to live his days out with those closest to him. Yet he thought of his aunt and his mum and dad, how they had given up everything to fight and he remembered the twins who took him in. He remembered Sirius who had lost twelve years of his life due to the war and Remus who had lost his best friends to a megalomaniac. Lastly, he remembered Ginny who had fallen in love with him despite his deeply mistrustful nature. Whom, despite losing time and time again had believed in loving the world she was a part of. Even when it kept showing her nothing but evil. He remembered them and he knew his answer. He turned to his nemesis and with a deep sigh he opened his mouth
"Kill me" he spat. Voldemort sighed and twiddles his wand around his fingers.
"As you wish" Harry stood still as Voldemort raised his wand, an excited buzz settled amongst the death eaters. It was like they had been anticipating the moment Harry dies, which he supposed they had.
As Voldemort uttered the spell Harry pictured Ginny running through Potter grounds. Then as a green light engulfed Harry he muttered a goodbye.
When Harry woke up, he was no longer engulfed by green but rather white. He slowly sat up and looked around, recognising his surrounding to be like home. The only difference was that everything was devoid of colour, it was all white.
He stood up Shakely, confused. Why wasn't he dead. Slowly, he began walking around, he walked through the front door and up the stairs. He looked around trying to see if anyone was home, when he finally reached the top of the stairs, he stared at the three doors in front of him. Ginny's room, His room and the study.
He reached towards the study, his own personal safety net. He walked inside and was met by a man sitting reading a Hogwarts History. A man that looked eerily similar to Harry himself. Harry gasped
"Dad?" the man turned to Harry and smiled
"Welcome home son" his father then pulled him into a hug and for once Harry didn't recoil, his father felt safe. He was probably the only man in his life that did.
"You have been so brave Harry," Harry said nothing, he didn't feel brave, he felt scared. His father took a step back and collapsed back into the chair.
"You know, when your mother and I had you I knew that the likelihood was that I was going to die young. I know that's terrible to have a child that you may never see grow up but I love your mother and I always wanted a child. What I never pictured was having my child die before he even reached sixteen." Harry didn't say anything, unsure of what his dad was trying to say.
His father picked up the book he was previously reading and looked to be reading, Harry sat down next to him, wondering if he should say something. He needn't have worried however for his father seemed to take the lead.
"I wish it didn't have to be like this harry" he sighed; Harry looked up. Yeah, he wished it turned out differently too.
"I'm sorry that your mother and I forced you into a life we never wanted for you," he said solemnly. Harry jumped up
"You didn't, it's not your fault that I died." James took a long look at his son as if he was seeing through him.
"Maybe not but it is our fault you are not fighting to go back" James lamented. Harry stared at him in confusion, he was dead. How could he go back when he was dead?
"I'm dead, I'm dead dad. How am I meant to go back when I willingly died." He asked, James, shook his head.
"No Harry, you haven't died. You, son, is in what muggles often call limbo. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, your life was never your own. Voldemort took your soul whilst Vernon took your voice. You never had any choice in your life, so I am giving you a choice now. When you choose to die Voldemort didn't kill all of you. He just killed the part of his should which lived in yours, you can go back if you wish Harry." harry stilled, go back? Why on earth would he do that? It seemed that James saw his struggle and handed him the book he had been reading. Instead of words on the page, however, there was a video of Hogwarts, more specifically what was happening at Hogwarts in the present. Harry winced when he saw Voldemort drop his body in front of the resistance, laughing about his death. Not a moment later Ginny ran through the crowd, screaming, a bloody curdling scream which made Harry's hair stand on end. She jumped on him, begging him to wake, checking for any sign of life and when she found none she glared at Voldemort.
"I am going to kill you" she seethed. Voldemort merely laughed at her
"Oh foolish girl, if even Potter cannot kill me I doubt a pre-adolescent girl will."
Harry ripped his eyes away. James smiled at his son sadly
"Do you really wish to leave her behind before you even got a chance to love her?" he asked. Harry shook his head and looked up to his father.
"I don't want to leave you..." he whispered, James smiled and placed a hand on Harry's chest.
"We are always here" he promised. Harry nodded
"I'll do you proud" James gulped and helped Harry up the started walking him towards the door.
"You already have" he the processed to push harry out the door.
As Harry's soul re-entered his body, he opened his eyes to the most beautiful sight. Ginny's Brown eyes.
