Walking back from the forest to meet with the others was Hiccup and Toothless. After going back and forth with his betrothed, Hiccup had agreed to help Dagur and Eret with taking out the guards while Astrid and Heather sneak out the Berkians. But what Dagur, Heather, Eret, and Astrid did not know was that Hiccup had other plans on saving Berk. To do what he is scheming to do, he must first lead Toothless away from the others.

The young man knows that his dragon would not enjoy what he is plotting to do, so that was why he was leading them away into the woods. Shortly after the battle with the Red Death, all the dragons but Toothless had left around the Snogglelog time to have their offspring. During this time, Hiccup had felt terrible because Toothless could not join the other dragons. So, Hiccup had created an automatic prosthetic tail-fin that would allow the Night Fury to fly without him. But what Hiccup did not account for was Toothless's disdain of the idea of flying on his own, so the dragon had destroyed the prosthetic. Luckily, Hiccup had created a spare one just in case. When Toothless tried to destroyed that one too, Hiccup had to convince the dark dragon to not dismantle the spare prosthetic, in case something ever happened to Hiccup and Toothless needed to go and get help. Toothless agreed not to break the prosthetic, but he still hated the tail-fin more than wearing armor.

Making it to a quiet clearing far enough from the village so that they would not hear Toothless's roars of disagreement. Hiccup knows that he does not have a lot of time to do this so might as well try to keep Toothless calm. "Bud, do you trust me?" the auburn hair man asked while he walks towards the side of Toothless where the saddle bag was at. Toothless nods his head as he watches his rider heading towards his saddle bag where they kept other tail-fins inside.

The automatic prosthetic was not the only tail-fin Hiccup had created over the years. The tail-fins Hiccup had crafted did different tasks for specific things. Hiccup pulled out the automatic tail-fin and the moment the dragon sees it, he starts to growl in disappointment. "I know that you don't like this tail but-," Hiccup says, but before he could finish, he was interrupted by the dark dragon's growling getting louder. As Toothless is growling, he is glaring daggers at the tail-fin. The midnight dragon's pupils dilated into slants. That is not a good sign at all Hiccup thinks to himself. He also moved his tail rapidly towards the side of him away from Hiccup, preventing his rider from switching his tail-fins.

"Come on, bud. Work with me here," Hiccup asked nervously, trying to calm down his best friend. He knows that he had to find a way to have Toothless to agree to his idea to save Berk. "You said you had trusted me," Hiccup reminded his winged friend. He knows that was low but he had to try something that would get the dragon to agree. Toothless shakes his head in disbelief while his pupils widen back to normal. He did not like that his wingless friend had said that.

"Look, bud. I'll still ride on you to Berk, but I'm going to need you to help Dagur and Eret with taking out the guards. While I'll be sneaking into where Grimmel, Alvin, Viggo, and Johann are hiding at to-," Hiccup explains, but before he could finish, Toothless once again interrupted him with a tail slap on the back of his head. "Toothless, I've got to try to talk reason into them. Plus, if this is a trap, you'll be able to save me without being caught yourself," Hiccup reasons with his dragon while silently praying to the Gods that his dragon would cooperate. Toothless rolls his eyes at the statement made from his best friend. The nightly dragon knows that his human is always looking for the good in everyone that his human meets.

"If you don't help me with this, I just might have to cut your fish portion in half," Hiccup teasingly threatens. Toothless did not only tail slap the former heir on the back of his head, but also licked him on the cheek. One of the most important things for Toothless was his tasty fish. He would not allow anybody to mess with his food, even if that someone is Hiccup. "Ouch and also you know that your saliva doesn't wash out," Hiccup replies while he tries to wipe off the dragon saliva off his face. Toothless sits on his hind legs and laughs because he knows his human is only teasing him about his fish, but he was not going to let that slide. Hiccup was having a difficult time getting the saliva off.

"Now can we get this tail-fin on you?" asked Hiccup while lifting the tail-fin up. Seeing that Hiccup had lifted the tail-fin, Toothless growls once again. "Please, Toothless. Just this once could you wear this?" the dragon rider pleads with his dragon. Toothless finally gives in, knowing that there is no stopping Hiccup from doing what he felt was right. The Night Fury moves his tail back towards his rider. He just hopes that he would not regret this decision.

"Thanks, bud," says the dragon rider with a warm smile. As quickly as possible, Hiccup had switched the tail-fins. Hiccup was not only grateful that Toothless was now cooperating with him, but he was also feeling ashamed and guilty that he was not only going behind his friend's back, but Astrid's as well.

Hiccup remembers shortly before the battle with the Red Death, he had made a last resort plan that he did not tell Astrid about. The reason he did not tell her was because he did not want her getting hurt. Sadly, he had to use that last resort plan to defeat that demon. Shortly after waking up from his coma in a foreign village, Astrid had punched him in the arm before giving him a kiss. After about a week of learning how to walk on a prosthetic leg, he told her that his last resort plan was to use the gas in the monster's mouth to build up and he would ignite it with Toothless's plasma blast to cause an explosion. He remembers the tears coming down her cheeks. That was the first time he had ever seen her cry. She then slapped him hard across the face, demanding he never scare her like that again. So, he promised her that he would never do something that dangerous again. But now, he has to break that promise to his betrothed. The moment Astrid finds out that he went against her back, it would not end well for Hiccup as he would find himself in a world of pain, he thinks to himself.

Once the tails were swapped out with each other, Hiccup gets on Toothless and they both fly back towards the village. A few moments later, both dragon and rider had made it back to the village's Great Hall where he was going to meet up with Eret, Heather, Dagur, and Astrid so they could make their way to Berk. Hiccup is walking into the Great Hall and was greeted by his friends Eret, Heather, Mala, Throk, alongside Astrid. Hiccup had left Toothless outside of the room because he did not want the others to notice the tail on Toothless. "What took you so long, babe?" asked Astrid when she saw Hiccup entering the room.

"I was just taking a flight around the island to clear my mind," Hiccup answers with a small lie. Astrid bought the lie because she believes that Hiccup is just nervous about returning to Berk. Over the past six years, she had tried to convince her boyfriend that the both of them should return to Berk to show them that dragons were not mindless killing machines. But all of these conversations always ended with what if they did return, just to be banished for the crimes of befriending dragons. So ultimately, they decided that not returning was their best choice.

"Don't worry, babe. We'll face Berk together," says Astrid as she grabs Hiccup's hand tightly to bring comfort to the former heir. This act of affection just makes Hiccup feel even more guilty about lying to Astrid.

"Yeah, I just can't wait for my father to disown me," Hiccup says sarcastically. It only earned him a punch in the shoulder from his girlfriend. "Ouch. I'm in an abusive relationship here," he cries out sarcastically again.

"Then don't give me sass," replies the blonde woman.

"But seriously, Astrid. I see my dad and everyone from Berk not accepting us after saving them," says Hiccup.

"Before you all head out, I want to say congratulations Hiccup and Astrid on the wedding," Queen Mala congratulated. Mala is the queen of the Defenders of the Wing. During their journeys, they met Queen Mala when Viggo's men invaded their island. At first, Mala thought that Hiccup and Astrid were working with Viggo. Later, Mala and her people learned it was all just a huge misunderstanding. Hiccup and Astrid even helped them get their protector back from the dragon hunters. Ever since than she and her people have been great allies. Now she is married to Dagur.

"Indeed, congratulations," Throk also added his congratulations. Throk is the most trusted friend of Mala.

"Thanks. And Throk and Mala, when did you guys get here?" Hiccup asks, wondering when the two made it here.

"They showed up shortly after you and Toothless left," answered Astrid. "Dagur was asking her to watch over New Berserker Island, while we do the rescue mission on Berk. Just before you showed up here," Astrid also added to help catch her soon to be husband up.

"Thanks, honey, for holdin down the fort," says Dagur while he gives his wife a kiss on her cheek. The sight warms Hiccup's heart as he remembers the day the both of them had gotten married almost three years ago. He always wondered how the both of them made the long-distance relationship work the way they do. Hiccup would go crazy if he had to go a long period of time without Astrid.

Hiccup and Astrid put on their helmets and were ready to go. "Alright, guys. Let's go save the Berkians," declared Hiccup, ready to fix his mistake of ever trusting Johann. With that, the four dragon riders got on their dragons and were on their way to save Berk.

After hours of flying, it was now night time when our heroes had made it to Berk. Staying in the air, Hiccup pulls out his spy scope to see what was the best way of entering the island. But what he sees horrifies him. Pretty much all the huts were destroyed by what would appear to be by fire, because there is nothing but ashes where the huts are supposed to be. Another thing he sees is Johann heading towards a ship along with Viggo and Alvin. That is where he needs to head, he thinks to himself. He also watches some of the guards leading the chained Berkians towards the jail. Never had the auburn hair man felt such guilt as this moment. All of this was his fault and now Berk is paying the price of his actions.

"Astrid they're leading the Berkians to the jail. So, Heather and you should land somewhere safe for Windshear and Stormfly to hide out at. You two should be able to sneak into the jail and break the Berkians out. Then the both of you lead them to safety," says Hiccup as serious as they have ever seen of him. "Eret, you take out the guards on the west side of the island, while Dagur you take them out on the east side. I'll make sure there is no reinforcements coming from ships or some unexpected guest showing up in the air. Send a signal if anything goes wrong," Hiccup adds and he received nods from the other riders. He would fix this even if it was the last thing he ever did.

The moment everyone was in position, Hiccup lands Toothless by the docks so he could sneak onto the ship he had seen Johann and the other enemies enter earlier. While the others went to where they planned to be, Hiccup had secretly been keeping an eye on the ship. Toothless gives his human friend a not so sure look. "I'll be okay bud," says Hiccup, trying to assure the worried dragon while also petting him on the head to comfort him. "But if something does go wrong, go get the others before you come to save me," Hiccup added. It is never wrong to have a backup plan in case something went wrong.

Toothless takes off in the air, leaving Hiccup to himself. The dragon still does not agree to this, but he just hopes his lovable and reckless human can stay safe all alone on their enemy's boat. Hiccup enters the ship as quickly and quietly as possible.

Walking down the lower deck, Hiccup is pulling his sword out of its sheath and lighting the flaming sword to help him see in the darkness. He is looking around to try and find anyone down there. It is eerily quiet down there. As Hiccup wonders why this mission has been far too easy, he notices a pure white dragon that is similar to Toothless locked inside a cage. Before he could even free the dragon, Hiccup felt something hard hitting his helmeted head, before everything goes black.

Meanwhile, Astrid and Heather are stealthily taking down the guards one after another. They slowly make their way towards the cells. Seeing the guard that is holding the keys to the cells, Astrid immediately took down the guard and snatched the keys from him. Ever since Astrid seen what damage the dragon hunters had done to Berk, she was more determined to make them pay for their sins. How dare they do this to her former people? Astrid's determination was fueled by worry for her parents' well-being.

The two young women had finally made it to the cells where Berk kept their prisoners at. The both of them heard a voice say sarcastically, "Well, today has just been sunshine and rainbows." Astrid immediately knew who the voice belonged to. The voice belongs to Gobber.

Gobber was the blacksmith in Berk. He is responsible for teaching Hiccup everything he knows about blacksmithing. She knows that her betrothed believes that Gobber is the only Berkian that misses him, just like Hiccup misses the blacksmith.

"Well, things are about to get better," Astrid replies while unlocking the cell door so that the blacksmith could escape.

"Dragon Mistress?" Gobber questions while he left his cell. Like most of the villagers, he did not really believe Hiccup and Astrid were the Dragon Master and Mistress. He practically raised Hiccup by himself. He all but remembers the times where Hiccup just wanted to kill a dragon to make Stoick proud. It just didn't make sense to the blacksmith as to why Hiccup would side with the dragons now.

Gobber was not the only one in that cell. Walking out of the cell is Stoick and Spitelout also. Once Stoick's eyes land on Astrid, they widen. "Dragon Mistress, or should we call you Astrid?" asked the chief. He needs to know if his son is truly with the dragons. The Dragon Mistress, or who they assume is Astrid, takes off her helmet. The three men all gasped at the sight of her face. Shock filled them as they see the face of someone they thought was dead for six years.

"Hello, Stoick," Astrid greeted her soon to be father-in-law.

"So, it's true that Hiccup and you are the Dragon Master and Mistress! Why did you both do it?! Did you two not care about your families?! Do you know how much your parents have suffered thinking you were dead, Astrid?! Answer me right now!" the chief yells his demands at the once to be thought dead Astrid. It was safe to say that the aging man wanted his unanswered questions answered.

"Look, we don't have time for this. We need to get the others out before reinforcements show up. Once we're safe, I'll answer all of your questions," Astrid responds, trying to not lose her cool. She knows that his anger is justified because Hiccup and she had run away and made them believe that the both of them were dead.

With that being said, they started to help get everyone out of their cells. With every passing cell they unlock to help another person out, the more worried Astrid got, because so far, her parents were not in any of the cells they have unlocked. So finally, they reached the end of the jail cells. With one more cell to unlock, Astrid is silently praying to the Gods that this one had her parents in it. The relief that she felt was heartwarming when she saw her parents were in it.

Once the cell door was unlocked, Astrid immediately ran towards her parents. "Mom! Dad! I've missed you so much," the young woman cried as she hugged her parents as if her life depended on it. For a moment, she thought that maybe the dragon hunters had killed them when they invaded Berk. Seeing them alive, she just could not help but let her tears of joy come out.

"We've missed you too, Astrid," Gunner says as he returned the hug his daughter gave them. The usually hardened man had tears of joy streaming down his cheeks, as he held his long lost daughter in his arms. Something just as little as holding his daughter in his arms was something he thought he would never get the chance to do again.

"Oh, my baby. We've missed you so very much too," Hilda says as she too returned her daughter's hug. Feeling her daughter in her arms just reassures the heartbroken mother that this is not another dream, but it was all real this time. She is weeping from the miracle that her daughter is alive and well. The mother just could not stop the tears even if she wanted to. Hilda was never going to lose Astrid again, if she had anything to say about it.

Heather had been watching her best friend reunite with her family. The black haired woman had a tear in her eye at the heartwarming reunion of the Hofferson family. Heather knows that family was something Astrid held very close to her after her uncle had died. Heather was just so happy for the blonde woman being with her family again.

After the soul warming Hofferson reunion, they had all left the jail and headed towards the forest. Both Heather and Astrid had seen that the boys needed some help. They quickly lead the Berkians to the forest to hide. Once they made it to the cove where Windshear and Stormfly were. "Alright, we need you all to stay here. We'll take care of this really quickly," orders Astrid as she makes her way towards Stormfly. Before Astrid could get to Stormfly, Stoick grabs her on the shoulder to stop the young woman from leaving.

"We're safe now, so you can answer our questions," said Stoick. While they made their way in the woods, they quickly unlocked the shackles on the Berkians.

"Astrid, I'll go and help the others. While you explain to these guys what Hiccup and you have been up to," Heather says while she gets on Windshear and took off.

"I'll explain, but no harm shall come to Stormfly," Astrid told them while pointing at her Deadly Nadder.

"You named this ugly beast?" Stoick asked in an disappointed tone while pointing at said Nadder. Stormfly took offense to being called an ugly beast. So, she hisses at the man for calling her names, getting spikes from her tail ready to shot at the chief.

"Stormfly, stop," Astrid told her dragon calmly. She knows she was about to attack the man for his rude remarks. This calms Stormfly down enough to not attack the rude man. Then, Astrid turns her attention to Stoick she says while glaring at him, "Stormfly isn't ugly nor is she a beast. She has helped Hiccup and I out so many times these past six years. She is family to me, so don't even think about harming her. If you guys do that, you won't ever get your answers on what happened to Hiccup and I. Do I make myself clear?"

"Fine, nobody is allowed to harm this…Deadly Nadder," Stoick ordered his people, but said Deadly Nadder like he was spitting out poison. It appears harming this dragon would throw away his chance at finding out what happened six years ago, so he is willing to abide by her terms. Both Astrid and her dragon heard the tone he said Deadly Nadder and glared at him for that.

"What happened that day sweetie?" Hilda asked, wanting to know how her daughter became the Dragon Mistress. She also wanted to know why her daughter is protecting this dragon, but not only that, but cared about it too.

"Well, it all started when…," Astrid started to explain what happened that day six years ago.

(Flashback)

"No, it makes perfect sense. It's like a beehive. They're the workers and that's their Queen. Let's go find your dad," says Astrid while Toothless lands back into the cove. The moment Toothless's paws touched the ground, Astrid had hopped off the dragon, ready to tell her chief what they had found. Hiccup had also come off his dragon.

"No, they'll kill Toothless. Astrid, we need to think this through," Hiccup warns while he turns his back to her.

"Hiccup we've discovered the dragon's nest. The same nest Vikings have been searching for generations. You want to keep it a secret to protect your pet dragon? Are you serious?" Astrid preaches.

Turning back to her with a serious demeanor is Hiccup. "Yes," Hiccup said. It was at that moment Astrid had seen the leader Hiccup was becoming before her eyes.

"Okay, what do we do?" asked Astrid.

"I don't know what Berk is going to do, but I'm leaving," Hiccup announces.

"What?! You can't just leave Hiccup. What would your father think? What about Gobber? Berk needs its heir. You can't just leave us like that," she questions Hiccup, very concerned about him. How could he leave everyone like that, especially her, behind?

"Just yesterday my father told me that he almost gave up on me. If it wasn't for Toothless, that's what he would think of me. I mean nothing to anyone in this village except for Gobber. So, I'm not losing much by leaving and neither is Berk," Hiccup replies to her questions.

"If you leave, then I'm coming with you," Astrid demanded gently. This shocks not only Hiccup, but Toothless as well.

"Astrid, you can't do that. What about Hilda and Gunner? Don't you think they'll miss you?" Hiccup asked. The auburn haired boy did not want Astrid to come with him because she had a place among the Berkians. She should not have to throw all that way for him of all people.

"I'll miss my parents dearly. I'm also sure they'll miss me as well. Hiccup, just how can I harm dragons after everything I learned today? Also, with you gone, Snotlout will be named heir. And both of us know that he'll choose me to be his bride, then there'll be nothing my parents or I can do about that," Astrid said, listing some of her reasons to come with Hiccup. When he heard of the idea that his cousin would force Astrid to be his wife, Hiccup made a disgusted face. "Well, so what would happen if you were separated from Toothless? How would you defend yourself from people who might want to hurt you or Toothless, because you want peace between dragons and humans? I know nobody trained you how to use weapons to fight with," she also added with concern.

"I don't know," Hiccup answered. Nobody even tried to teach Hiccup how to use the weapons he made. Apparently, he was not worth anyone's time. What if Hiccup had run into people that were against dragons and humans living together in peace? What if Hiccup had been separated from the Night Fury? These were good questions Astrid had asked.

"See I can help you out with training with weapons," offers Astrid hoping that Hiccup would allow her to come with him. Toothless walks towards her, the Night Fury sits next to her, then looks at Hiccup, while cooing at him. "Even Toothless wants me to come with you guys," Astrid adds while she scratches Toothless under his chin. The Night Fury is purring in delight from the scratches which causes Astrid to giggle at the cute dragon.

"Okay, you can come if you want. But first we need to get you a dragon of your own. I know where we'll be able to find you one," says Hiccup with a smile on his face. Hiccup did not want Toothless carry too much weight.

(Flashback ends)

"We then broke out the dragons from the arena. We flew out of Berk and onto an uninhabited island where Hiccup taught me how to train dragons. Two weeks later, we returned to the dragon's nest and defeated the Queen dragon," Astrid finished explaining the events of that night they left. Dead silence greeted the young woman, as the Berk villagers process everything they just heard.

"Wait a Thor damn minute. The both of you found the nest and didn't tell us?" Stoick says.

"You two are the reasons dragons don't raid us anymore?" asked Gunner, shocked that the two missing teenagers were the reason dragons do not raid them anymore.

"I just mostly helped. Hiccup and Toothless did most of the work," answered Astrid trying to hype up Hiccup. She knows that Hiccup does not think he is anything without Toothless. So usually, he gave most of the credit of killing the Red Death to Toothless, which annoyed her and his dragon to no end. The former heir had made the plan that lead to the monster's death. That should count for something right.

The villagers were in a disbelief state with what they heard. The boy they all deemed useless, worthless, and not worthy of his birthright had done things that they thought were impossible. He had somehow trained a dragon, and not just any dragon, but a Night Fury of all things. He and his dragon had even killed a dragon estimated to be the size of a mountain. Shame and guilt fill them all at this moment for their past actions towards their former heir.

"Oh, sweetie. I can't believe that Hiccup and you had fought that giant demon," says Hilda, worried that he might have been hurt doing the fight.

"Wait, I never told you guys that the Red Death was a massive alpha dragon. Did you guys find the nest?" questions Astrid, curious as to how and when they had found the nest.

"Well…," Hilda starts to explain the day they found the nest.

(Flashback)

It had been two months since the disappearance of Hiccup Haddock and Astrid Hofferson. The broken families left wanting not only answers but revenge as well. The most believable theory was that both of the teens had been taken by a black dragon. It was really the only theory that the families of the two believe, but there is a problem.

The dragons have not raided Berk since the night before the teens started dragon training. This left the villagers confused as to why the dragons suddenly stopped raiding them. After generations of being raided by the dragons, just to have them just stop was nerve-racking to say the least. Some of the villagers thought that the absence of the dragons was a sign that when they start raiding again, the next raid would be so massive that it would make them feel like Ragnarok had arrived.

Stoick had decided that he would take a huge group of his villagers to search for the nest. Not only to see what had caused the sudden lack of raids, but to finally have his revenge on the winged beast that destroyed not only his family, but everyone else that suffered from the dragons. The names of some the villagers that went with him were Gunner, Hilda, Gobber, Snotlout, Spitelout, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, and Fishlegs.

They set sail to Helheim's Gate to put an end to the dragons. The ship docks on an island and villagers came out of the ship with their weapons out ready to fight. Hilda and Gunner had their axes out, looking around them. The two Hoffersons were in a murderous mood. The island had ashes everywhere. It looked like a battle had taken place here. There are no dragons that are attacking them. That's when they all notice a skull of what the Berkians assume to be an extremely large dragon. "Holy s***! Look at the size of that!" a villager shouts out, frightened by the skull size. All of them were glad that whatever that thing was is dead.

(Flashback ends)

"We would shortly later leave. Once back at Berk, Fishlegs calculated that the size of that dragon would've been as big as a mountain," Hilda finishes explaining the story to her daughter.

"Yeah, you guys did not want to see that thing alive. It truly was a demon from hell itself," Astrid says. That is when Astrid had seen a plasma blast in the air and exploding. She knows that something went wrong with Hiccup and Toothless. About four years ago, Hiccup and Astrid trained their dragons to shoot a special shot in the air if something went wrong. "Oh, no. Hiccup." Astrid ran towards Stormfly to go where that shot was made.
