Welcome back everybody! First a review of last time. I want to explain Aris's seemingly Bipolar nature, which is because he is experiencing a lot of new things and he doesn't have all his memories so he can't always roll with the punches (the guy got overwhelmed and couldn't keep is emotions in check)
As for direction of this chapter it will be showcasing more characters and giving Aris a better reason to be in Slytherin.
Besides all that let's get down to business!
Today was the day! Today was September first, the day Aris was set to head to Hogwarts. Aris felt like he barely slept due to sheer excitement. Luck for him he had the internal alarm clock of snakes, by that he meant snakes that could look at the clock and then force him awake through shoving and nudging.
Stretching and greeting the morning with a big yawn. Aris proceeded to get out of bed placed his wand down on the bed as he had slept with it in his hand. Aris hated having to but his wand down, the feeling was sick like he cut off a hand. Quickly Aris changed clothes before starving the harness to his upper thigh and slotting the wand inside. He let out a sigh of relief at having the wand once again on him.
Aris took a moment to look in the mirror and straightened out his clothes. Consisting of a cream button down shirt, of which he left the top button undone. A plain white tee-shirt beneath the button down, both shirts tucked into his pants. His pants were a dark chocolate brown pair of slacks, almost the same color as his holster. Completing the outfit was a pair of sturdy brown leather boots. Deciding that his look was almost acceptable, he ran his fingers through his hair trying to get out some tangles. Once finished his hair was tied back with his natural hairband. Aris had found that he enjoyed looking nice, it made him feel important like he was a wealthy businessman.
Taking a look around Aris found that the room felt spare as everything was packed up into his large trunk. Aris was slightly worried that the trunk would be too heavy to move, but found that while it was by no means light, the trunk was still manageable. While Aris knew he was stronger than average, he didn't think that the trunk was as heavy as it should be. None of the spells that Aris had looked over in his school books provided an answer.
It was ten o'clock in the morning, meaning he had an hour before his train departed. Snape has come once more in august to give Aris a train ticket and instruct Aris to take the floo to get to the station.
Aris took a deep breath in trying to quell his growing excitement.
"You both ready?" Aris hissed the question to his slippery friends, but soon felt a slight pricking feeling on his leg. His wand seemed slightly annoyed that it wasn't included. Aris shook his head with a laugh before patting his wand and apologizing.
Aris's wand was strange. It couldn't respond verbally or even seem to understand speech. What the wand seemed responsive to was feelings. The wand also seemed to possess its own type of feelings, nothing complex but still apparent to Aris.
Now that everyone was happy and accounted for, Aris just had to wait for a worker to come and unlock his door. So that's exactly what he did. He waited, then waited some more. Around fifteen minutes past before Aris really started to get worried.
'Okay, okay I still have a little over half an hour, I can try to get out by my self, but I can't use my wand' Aris contemplated.
Steeling himself Aris closed his eyes and tried to reach out with his magic.
Just as he started the door opened up revealing healer Smethwyck. The old man was a sight for sore eyes.
"Come on boy best not be late" the man said with a smirk, knowing full well that he was the one who was late.
Aris bent down to pick up his trunk when he was interrupted by Smethwyck coughing and pointing to a dolly that was beside him.
After loading the trunk onto the cart, the two briskly walked to the elevator. Aris reaches first desperately wanted to get a move on. A quick ride later they were in the lobby.
"Now Aris I expect to not see you here for a very long time and by that I mean don't let yourself get hurt" Smethwyck told Aris with a firm tone. Although it was clear the words came from a place of care.
"Don't you worry! You won't see me until I'm in the paper as the greatest wizard ever!" Aris declared with a large smile. Getting a hearty laugh in response.
With enough said Aris reached the floo connection and grabbed a handful of powder. Once he was securely inside taking his trunk of the dolly. With one hand on his luggage, Aris spoke loudly, "platform nine and three quarters!"
O-O-O-O
Stepping out of the fire Aris found himself in a similar reception area to Diagon Ally. Aris dragged his trunk to the exit area where he saw a stack of carts. Taking one for his luggage, Aris then rolled out of the port. What he saw was bustling train-station. Numerous families were rushing around with similar carts packed with luggage. In the middle of the large station was a bright red steam train. The train had the same logo on it that Aris's Hogwarts letter had, symbolizing that he had arrived correctly.
Aris moves past the families saying good bye to one another, he arrived at one of the many compartments to enter the train. Looking up ahead in the line to board was a man in conductors hat whole punching tickets, Aris retrieved his ticket from his pocket. Once it was his turn to board, Aris got his ticket punched and then lifted his trunk off the dolly. The conductor waved a wand and said a spell Aris didn't recognize before the dolly speed off on its own back towards the floo-port.
Aris walked through the train looking for an open compartment dragging his trunk behind him, as he wasn't tall enough to comfortably do anything else with it.
Coming to an empty compartment in the middle of the train. Aris decided to take out one of his books to read on the ride. Choosing The standard book of spells, Grade 1 by Miranda Goshawk. Putting his trunk in the designated area above the seats with relative ease. Aris got comfortable in his seat and just as he was about to start reading he heard a knock.
Standing in the open doorway was a boy with short brown hair. His hair was clean cut only somewhat spiked up in the front. The boy reminded Aris a little of Draco Malfoy with how nicely he was dressed. The similarities need there as the boy held a pensive expression on his face, his hazel eyes asking the question if he could come in, as his eyes darted to the open seat across from Aris.
"Come on in if you want" Aris said.
The boy gave a small smile before putting his own trunk in the upper compartment, he did so much quicker than Aris.
'This guy is either super strong or somehow made his trunk really light. Mmm probably the second one he doesn't look that strong' Aris silently judged.
The boy sat across from Aris and held out his hand before introducing himself.
"Hi there, my name is Theodore Nott" his tone was friendly enough, more reserved if anything else. He didn't seem like an extrovert, but that was simply based of the ten seconds Aris had met him.
Aris looked at the hand for a moment before realizing that this was just a greeting and quickly responded.
"Names Aris Ruamont, nice to meet you Theodore" Aris responded taking his hand and giving a firm shake.
Over the time Aris had spent in the hospital, Aris had learned how to at least be somewhat friendly with people. He had watched people enough times to understand many different expressions. That and he had learned to read body language when he was visited every month at the shack. He was more used to negative interactions, that positive ones still threw him occasionally.
Theodore looked Aris up and down before giving him a puzzled expression.
"Ruamont? Never heard of that family" Theodore asked.
"Neither have I" Aris responded giving the other boy a shrug. He didn't know why people kept asking that.
Theodore grew more confused, "what? Aren't you from a Nobel family?" Voice full of confusion and now a little hesitancy.
"Nobel family? But to answer you question I have no idea I'm a orphan" Aris said in a curios tone, ending as if he was talking about the weather. Aris didn't care if people knew he was an orphan, it wasn't like denying it would change anything.
"So you are mudblood then?" Theodore asked with frown. Interesting Theodore seemed more worried than upset like Theodore himself did something wrong.
"Mudblood?" Aris asked. He had heard the Malfoy boy say it before but never learned it's meaning.
"A muggleborn, so you really are one then" Theodore responded while looking at the door, as if to check if anyone was passing by.
"Muggleborn, then probably not" Aris said simply. Aris didn't know what to think about muggles. Muggles were the people at eh orphanage, people who shunned him, tried to kill him! He hated being compared to such people. They were weak and stupid, he was strong and alive. He wasn't like them, he was better.
"What?!" Theodore exclaimed, snapping his focus back to Aris. As well as bringing Aris out of his brooding thoughts.
Pushing all other thoughts aside and deciding to have a little fun. Aris grinned and spoke slowly enough to make sure Theodore didn't miss it. If Theodore got scared then he wasn't worth Aris's time simple as that, and most wizards hadn't been scared of him, so Aris didn't think he had much to worry about.
"Showtime" Aris hissed. Smirk quickly returning to his face. His hair fell down and two snow-white serpents slowly came into view.
Theodore's mouth hung open at the display. Babbling trying to respond to the scene. Eyes wide but clearly not in fear.
Aris turned his head and lifted his hair showing the physical connection. Deciding to show off more, as Theodore didn't seem scared.
"I'm part Gorgon, pretty cool right" Aris spoke smugly. Proud at his theatrical display.
"Gorgon! Wait! You said part, so you a half-breed? But Gorgon?! Wait and you spoke Parseltongue! Holy crap!" Theodore yelled. Actively trying to collect his thoughts as he spoke.
Aris chuckled at the display. Allowing Theodore to collect his thoughts. Theodore gave a long exhale looking at the ceiling. Lowering his head, he chuckled before full on laughing.
"Hahaha! Sorry its just blood hell man. You just blew hundreds of years of blood history out of the water!" Theodore looked extremely happy and a little delirious.
Theodore saw Aris's confusion and explained the idea of blood-supremacy. He made sure to say he didn't agree with it entirely, saying that blood has to start somewhere and history has a lot of great half-bloods and muggleborns.
"So how do people feel about half-breeds?" Aris asked cautiously. He didn't think Theodore would care that much but Theodore did seem well informed and if people cared then... well Aris would have to come up with something.
"Well it kinda varies from race to race. If it's a being race then normally people are fine, might give you a snide comment but nothing much. If it a beast race then people can be a little more rude" Theodore explained, "most don't care at all but if people do then then they think half-breeds are lesser cause they sullied their blood" Theodore said awkwardly due to whom he was speaking to.
"Thats stupid, I'm probably better than them" Aris arrogantly responded. He fully believed it, he had been told he was different and unique ever since he entered the wizarding world. Aris refused to be considered lesser or weaker than anyone. People who were weak got hurt and killed. Thoughts were starting to consume Aris once again, but he was pulled out when he heard a laugh.
"Really and what makes you say that? I mean you are a Parselmouth which is wicked but still you don't even know them" Theodore said in an almost challenging manner but was clearly joke from the expression on his face.
"Ohh?! And are you one of them?" Aris challenged back but was slightly more serious. Aris couldn't help but want to test himself against someone.
Theodore held up his hands in defeat. Both boy laughed after that. They seemed to have a natural rapport allowing them to talk freely, something that has very new to both of them. They continued to talk throughout the ride, sharing interest.
Theodore liked watching the dueling circuit, explaining that wizards battled each other for sport. Theodore came from an ancient wizarding family so he had to learn a lot of decorum and manners growing up. Aris responded that he mostly liked to read, wander around and practice magic.
"Oh man so you'll probably be in Ravenclaw then" Nott complained. Not fully listing after the first thing Aris listed.
"Ravenclaw? That like a club" Aris asked confused as to why he would be in it and why Theodore seemed bummed about it.
"Man you really don't know anything about the magical world do you?" Theodore assumed. Aris turned his head in embarrassment as a reply. Explaining what he meant about Ravenclaw Theodore told him about the house system at Hogwarts as well as the house traits.
"Ohh so that's why. Well you seem pretty smart why wouldn't you end up there?" Aris asked.
"Ehh I'm probably going to end up in Slytherin. My dad would kill me if I broke the family tradition, see generations of Notts have gone to Slytherin" Theodore explained. He then continued with some puzzlement "I was hopping you would end up in Slytherin cause you are a Parselmouth..." he saw Aris giving him a look to explain, "...you see the founder of the house Salazar Slytherin was a Parselmouth, it's why the house symbol is a snake"
"Wicked, okay I'm going into Slytherin then" Aris claimed excitedly.
"Not sure you can just choose. My father said that there was a artifact that judges where you are supposed to go, but I hope you do end up in Slytherin" Theodore broke the news with a little grin.
Soon after a woman with a folly appeared, asking if they wanted to purchase anything. Theodore bought a lemonade and chocolate frog, Aris didn't have any money so he passed. Theodore offered to get him something but Aris didn't want to feel indebted, he already felt like he owed Professor Snape a lot.
When Theodore ate the frog after it tried to jump away, there was a card left.
"Mmm Herpo the Foul thought they stopped making him" Theodore said as he read the card.
The name sounded distantly familiar to Aris. He couldn't tell wear he heard it before, he couldn't remember if it was in one of his new books or not. His thoughts were interrupted by someone coming into their compartment.
"There you are Nott, I didn't see you on the platform" a haughty voice said. The person in the doorway was one Draco Malfoy, he was accompanied by two larger boys one larger in the sense of height the other was somewhat pudgy. All three were dressed in their school robes.
"Oh hey Draco, yeah sorry forgot about meeting up. Got caught up talking to Aris here" Theodore motioned to Aris.
"Why are talking to a dirty mudblood? I didn't realize the Notts were blood-traitors" Draco said in a disappointing tone.
"How dare you Malfoy!" Theodore exclaimed rising to his feet.
Seeing that Theodore was being insulted, as well as himself. Aris thought about how he could respond. He remembered that people responded best to fear.
Aris also rose to his feet and spoke up, "well Mr. Malfoy I think Theodore and I need to change. Also as for myself, you don't need to know who I am, pathetic human" his tone started polite but quickly turned demeaning as he shifted over to Parseltongue. Letting his snakes come out and accentuate his point. Slowly creeping forward till he was in Draco's face. His snakes hissing in Draco ears forcing him to back up. Once Aris saw Draco pass the threshold, he stepped back and smiled. Aris waved his hand and the door slammed shut. Aris quite liked the shocked expression on Draco's face. Aris didn't know how he felt about when Draco's face started to morph into fear. It was what Aris was going for, but left a bad taste in his mouth.
"Bloody hell! What did you even say to him?!" Theodore asked while gawking at Aris.
"Oh just told him to mind his own business" Aris shrugged before continuing, "but we probably should get dressed, looks like he already did"
"Um yeah...you can go first I need to talk to Draco, our families are kinda close" Theodore replied somewhat absently, switching to a worried tone when he remembered Draco.
Theodore quickly left the compartment to catch Malfoy who was stomping away.
Aris didn't know what to make of that so he just quickly got changed this time having his snakes hold onto his wand. He didn't want to be unarmed in an unfamiliar place. Once he was dressed Aris stowed his wand and made sure to put his book back in his trunk.
Aris waited for Theodore to return. After a few minutes he thought he might have went to far and now Theodore was also scared of him. Aris was glad that he heard the door open back up. Instead of Nott, Aris was greeted by a girl with large frizzy hair that was light brown.
"Hello have you seen a toad by chance, a boy named Neville lost his" the girl asked quickly.
"No" was all Aris said in reply.
Just as quickly as she came, the girl left. Probably off to find a toad. While toads were on Aris's mind he went over to Theodore's side of the compartment and saw his chocolate frog card. He picked it up and saw an empty portrait labeled Herpo the Foul. Not jogging Aris's memory, he tossed the card back before sitting back down.
Theodore finally came back after a few more minutes. Aris stepped out to let him change. The door opened back up after he was done, the two boys sat in awkward silence for a bit.
"Sorry about Draco, he can be a bit arrogant" Theodore apologized.
"Don't worry about it, sorry if I caused you trouble with him" Aris reciprocated.
They fell into silence again.
"Okay this is stupid" Theodore decelerated at the tension in the room.
"Yeah I agree, I mean we're on a magic train! This is a magic train isn't it?" Aris questioned with a laugh.
"You know I don't actually know" Nott pondered the question himself. He chuckled after a minute of thinking. With the absence gone both boy started to chatter on about seemingly random topics.
"So why brooms of all things?"...
"No why would duels be to the death?!"...
"The name just sounds weird, Mugwump like really not high mage or something"...
"Well their are other magical schools I think there is like five or so others"...
Conversation flowed between the two boys.
"So Merlin was an actual person?!" Aris asked in disbelief.
"Yeah the guy actually was in Slytherin if you can believe it" Theodore responded with a grin.
"Man that's a high bar" Aris whistled in awe.
"What you want to surpass Merlin! Man maybe you will end up in Slytherin, that's a big dream" Theodore shocked at the sheer idea.
"It's not a dream if it will happen and I promise it will" Aris declared with a fiery passion.
Before any response could be given a loud screech erupted from train signaling the completion of the journey. Both boys excitedly grabbed their luggage and headed of the train.
