Notes from Shardy: Not my first Final Fantasy fic I've ever written. But definitely the my first one posted here. And dealing with my favorite OTP, Sephiroth x Aerith. When it comes to FF romance, I tend to lean more towards the…erm, darker side of the fandom. Anyhoo, enjoy!

Disclaimer: I am not in any way associated with Square Enix or the production of Final Fantasy VII, neither as the creator, a writer, or even delivering their coffee to them during the ungodly hours of the morning.

Precious

It felt as though the pain inside of her would never go away. The physical aspect had long since departed, but her soul screamed in agony.

She could sense him, even here, in this holy of holy places.

But you are safe now. You can't hurt anymore.

Wrong. All wrong. She could still feel it, even though technically she wasn't supposed to feel anything anymore. They had said so in all her classes, everyone she asked. That death was it. That once the body died, then the soul was scattered and nothing about her would exist anymore. So, why, why, why did it feel as though her heart was still breaking? Why had she been taken away?

You knew what you had to do. What I had to do. We were both merely playing our roles.

It didn't have to be this way.

No. You're right. There were other ways.

She sat down amongst the endless field of flowers, the one thing that had brought her true happiness. Besides the other one. Those bright summer days in the meadows that she embraced as passionately as she did her secret lover. The warmth that filled her as completely as the sun had been his own.

I remember. And I will not allow them to end.

The pain was slowly disappearing now. Even the bloodied wound over her heart had already vanished.

A flower like you should not feel pain.

She thought she saw a long strand of silver hair float past her shoulder.

You have always been the one thing that is most precious to me.

So, why did he have to kill her?

To be with you…always…
