Oc in LoL Fanfiction.

One-shot after the Lux Comic. Lux leaves Demacia and Garen needs some time for himself and finds a stranger who uses magic before his eyes. POV Garen

Disclaimer: I don't anything LOL related. I don't make money of this, and I wrote this only for the fun of it. I have no idea how magic really works in Runterra, it is my own magic system I wrote in the same bunch of private short stories where my OC has originated from. These short stories have nothing in common with the LOL world and are not fanfiction. I started to writhe this story before the start of "Arcane" and I won't change it.

Last but not least english is not my first language. So please be understanding. I will correct any mistakes brought forward.

The Capital was mostly rebuilt. That meant that Garen had more time to himself. He was distracted while they rebuild and repaired the City. But know where almost anything was done, he had the time to think about what really happened, what happened between him and Lux.

Lux had left him, left Demacia and he didn't know how he felt. He needed time to clear his head. His aunt Tianna recognized it as well and send him of to clear his head. In her words "I can't use a soldier whose head is not in the fight." And she was right. He needed to make peace with what happened or he would be a liability in future fights.

He was on his third day of travel home. Someone needed to tell his parents that Lux was gone. No, she was alive, he was certain of that. But she most likely would never come back home. How could it come this far? He asked himself.

The light began to diminish bevor he came to a satisfying answer. But even know his head full of questions he noticed a person approaching, before she came to close. He stopped his tries to ignite a fire and grabbed his sword in his hand.

"Who are you and what bring you out here?" he asked the woman who stopped in her attempts to approach him. You could never be to careful when you traveled alone and Garen had to much, to underestimate his opponents because they were female. And this Woman carried two swords at her hips. Which was enough to be suspicious.

"You can call me Heather. And I hoped you could help me." The woman replayed. "Can I approach further?" "You can help me set up my camp" Replied Garen. He still wasn't sure if he could trust her but he would at least here her plea for help before he decided.

As she came within a few feet of him he was able to take in her appearance. She was in her early thirties, had dark hair and a pendant on a chain around her neck.

"What do you want me to do?" she asked him. "You can take care of the Fire and the wood we are needing for it." She nodded and took off, into the forest. At the time she deemed the amount of fire wood enough he had the food prepared.

But then she did something that surprised him. She ignited a fire with only her hand. It was clear to him that she used magic. But why would she do that. Everyone in Damacia knew how dangerous magicians where and those who used magic knew better than to openly use their magic. Furthermore, she used her magic right before his eyes.

He was in utter stupor. Of her boldness and confidence. He realized that he stared at her and she was noticing it. "I thought you may have seen magic before, with all your attire, I expected of you to more acquainted with it." The apologetic way she said it was something that made Garen even more confused. He was famous for his fight against magic users.

"Excuse me." This sentence snapped him out of his stupor and he grabbed his sword from his back. The woman seemed unimpressed by the fact that she was threatened with a very big sword.

"You are bold witch, to reveal your magic in front of me." "Well then it should be clear I don't know who you are. I am not from around here and you haven't stated your name." Again, Garen was surprised and it began to annoy him. Most people new him by reputation, and most people recognized him by his iconic sword.

"My name is Garen. Garen Crownguard. I am part of the Demacian military. And I have a bit of a reputation, but if you didn't know any of this. That leaves the question: why did you ask me for help?"

He didn't like the idea of being on the defensive side of the argument. He shouldn't even be arguing with her. "I got lost and have no idea where I currently am and you seemed like you're very comfortable traveling alone. So, you were either knowledgeable of the area, or a fool Garen. You didn't strike me like a foul though."

She isn't from around here this thought went on loop in Garens head. Apparently, she didn't even know she was in Demacia. "If you where to tell me where we are on the continent I well be gone as fast as I can."

"Why would I believe you, you have shown me your magic, I fought mages before and I will do it again. Your kind is a potential danger to all of us. "He raged, he was angry at her, for being a mage, for coming to him of al people. He was angry at Lux for leaving him, and all his family. He was angry at himself that he felt that way, in both cases.

And all at the moment where everything he wanted was some time to think for himself.

"How about this, I tell you about myself and if you still want my head severed from my body we can do that at an even playing field in the morning."

"Again, why would I believe you anything you tell me. You are a mage!" "Well we could fight right know where I hold most of the advantages, I mean all I need to is surprise you with a fireball and you are temporarily blinded. Or you can trust me that I would much rather resolve this peacefully."

Garen thought for a moment. She had a point. Furthermore, he was exhausted from the days travel. "Ok. Say what you want to say and I am goanna decide what to with you in the morning."

"Well first of all to put you at ease, I am a lousy mage. A fireball here, a moved stone there and that's about it. I can't do much more because I lack the strength." Garens face didn't shift during this revelation, and he would never confess to it but he really did feel easier with this news.

"That doesn't mean I know less spells or less about magic as whole. I have accumulated much knowledge over different kind of magic and the creative ways you could use them, in and outside of combat. Because knowledge is power."

"If you can't perform most spells, then why would you need to know how they are used?" "Do you know the saying "if you know everything about your enemy he can't surprise you"?"

Garen shock his head. But the saying made sense. "So, you fight mages, even if you are one yourself? And how are you fighting them if you are a "weak" mage yourself?" he asked. Not totally sure what to make of her previous statements.

"I fight whoever needs to be fought to survive and to achieve my goal. That I fight mages just goes along with it. An I fight using my swords and while I am pretty good with them, I never fight fair. I honor agreements and treat people with respect but in a fight, I use every advantage I can get."

"And what would your goal be? That you are willing to fight your own kind over?" Garen asked, once again resting his hand on the hilt of his sword.

"My goals are simple, to prevent war. I steal for it, I lie for it, I kill for it. I don't care who I have to bribe, threaten, or blackmail for it. I keep things under lock and key so no site has enough reason to start a war.

I dedicate my Live to peace, no matter how much I need to give up, or how much I have to take, because war hits always the wrong ones the hardest."

"So, is your name even Heather? I recall you using it before." "No, it is not my name. But It comes close to it. Also, I only said that you could call me that, not that Heather is my name. As for an explanation, I am in unknown lands and I have made a lot of enemies in my live, so I tend to be careful whom I trust with my real name."

Garen was quit once again. "Have you lost someone in war?" It seemed obvious but he still needed to ask, he just could not. "No." was the short answer before she added: „But enough of that, I don't want to talk about war, it always riles me up. I want to talk about magic instead."

There it was the deciding moment at least Garen felt that way. He didn't know what she was going to tell him but he knew he wouldn't change his feelings or believes about magic, they where set in stone. Or where they. He asked himself wasn't that part of why he was out here alone to rethink about Magic?

No! He was only here because of Lux, and her decision to leave the country to protect magic users because she was magic user herself. Yes, that was it, it was about Lux and her leaving. It had nothing to do with magic. Magic was evil end of discussion.

"I don't know what you are going to tell me woman but Magic is dangerous." "Oh, I agree. Magic is extremely dangerous. But so are swords. Especially magical swords." She gave him a knowing look.

"What do you mean by that?" Garen asked not sure he liked where this is going. "Are you sure you don't know. I mean the magic your sword emits is kind of hart to ignore. For someone with my abilities at least.

You yourself have quit the magical potential sealed away in you." This infuriated Garen how dare this woman to imply he's using magic but this was not the right time. So, he controlled himself.

"Watch your words if you want this to end peaceful." Was all he could say at the moment. But the woman seemed as calm as always. "You don't seem to understand that in the same way everybody can pick up a sword, everybody has the potential to awaken their own magical powers."

That was a surprise, everyone was able to use magic? Could this be true? But why didn't show more people magic abilities. But then again, he himself had never shown any adaptability with magic. It was beter to listen what else she had to say.

"Most people never know that they have the potential, and most will never be able to even if they try. Because they lack the right key. Imagine magical power like a lake. Everybody has such a Lake inside of them. Some are bigger like yours some smaller like mine. Some not even bigger than a puddle. And a few that are gigantic."

So far everything she said made some sense. But that didn't mean it was true, it could still be a lie. A god one but still a lie.

"Something all those lakes have in common, is the dam that seals those lakes shut. Most people will never be able to break through their dam on their own. Those who are able to, these are the ones who are able to use magic because once the dam broke it can never be repaired. The magical power will flow through the remains of the dam like a river."

She made a brake and looked over to Garen. "If that is true the how come magical binding chains exist? How come we are able to suppress the magic in those we capture?"

"You don't repair the dam, you just build a second temporarily one. Magic can be blocked, absorbed, bound and stolen but never erased. You might suppress someone's ability to reach their lake but the lake still exists."

What she said made sense but that doesn't mean anything, He didn't know anything about magic, at least not the part where she talked about. But given that she told the truth, that everyone had the potential to become a mage, then …

"How is it determined. I mean where is the differences between a person with potential and a mage?" "That I don't know. But I have theorized about it. I believe there are three ways of awaking once magic power."

The fact that she said not to know let him feel empty for a moment, before he was able to clarify what exactly the felling was, she began talking again. "Most people who become mages just have so much potential, that the dam brakes because off the sheer pressure of the lake.

Some people have their brake thru because of emotional turmoil. They rile the lake up like a storm and the dam starts to crack unable to withstand the pressure. And the last one is with training you are able to find the way to your lake and destroy the dam yourself, figuratively spoken of course.

I have not met a mage who didn't fit in these three categories. Sometimes it is a combination of more than one thing.

And we come full circle. You remember, I said that magic is dangerous. And I stand by that, especially those who obtained they're powers thru method two. They have no idea what kind of power they just taped into. All They Know is, they just did something incredible."

She stopped in her explanation and looked at Garen who was lost in thoughts. Which type of magic user would Lux be? Most likely type one. Lux hadn't had outbursts of any kind. The magic she showed, was a radiating she couldn't suppress. But wasn't that the worst type of them all. So powerful that they broke the dam. If this was true she was, she was … she was...

"How would type one manifest?" In this simple question lay all his doubts and all his hopes. But the Woman, no Heather he decided, didn't answer immediately. For the first time in their conversation, she took her time to muster him, to look him up and down, before she answered.

"It depends on the person and the environment said person grows up in. Even the most confident person would hide his or her power, if those powers meant potential imprisonment or execution."

She stopped and the silence started to rise. Garen knew she saw through his last question. He also was pretty sure that she could deduce why he was here in the first place. But she didn't pry. She didn't ask. All she did was shoot him a waiting and knowing look once every few seconds.

She hadn't told that much with her last answer, but the message was clear, if he wanted to have his doubts confirmed, or denied, he would have to be more specific. But he couldn't ask for that not jet anyway.

This dammed Silas. He was the one who corrupted Lux and forced her into the open. As he thought about Silas another thought hit him. "How would you know about someone's affinity for magic?"

"Every magician has an affinity for one type of magic. My affinity is it to feel the magic of others. But like everything in magic this can be learned. But you would have to search far to find someone who is able to get the same amount of information as I do."

"I once met a magician who was able to identify other magic users. He was able to see their Magic in some form of aura around them. He saw nothing by regular folks."

For the second time in the last few minutes Heather, as she called herself fell silent. He shot her a questioning look. "I have never heard of anyone being able to see magic radiating of people." She finally admitted.

"But it makes sense that he would be unable to see the magic potential. Once your magic rushes free from its prison. There is a relatively small but constant flow of magic you give off. Maybe his eyes are able to see the magic leaving the mage in front of him, due to a mutation.

It would be an inferior version to the way I detect magic. I am able to detect almost any magic user around me without having to concentrate or see them. So, it doesn't matter if said mage stands behind me. Also, I can imagen it can be quit irritating to always see shiny auras of people around you."

This shocked Garen. He always looked at Silas ability to find magic users to be second to none. "But what of people who have no connection to their power? How are you able to feel them out? And how does one's affinity for one type of magic influence the magic they use."

"To your first question first. I send out a bit of my magical power, and every magical core reacts to that. If the response is bigger the persons potential is bigger. But it needs to be initiated by me.

At the same time trained magicians are able to mask their traits somewhat but I never learned how to do that. I jus never saw the need.

On to your second question, there is no difference between creating a flame and moving a twig theoretically speaking." She paused for a moment to create a small flame in the palm of her hand and afterwards moving a little twig in the air.

This was a surprising revelation for Garen he always thought that mages could do only one type of magic, so he assumed that different magic types were extremely different to one another.

"All magic is fundamentally the same. Energy manipulation. You need to know how to do that. How do I need to move the energy to achieve the moving of the twig? I created a bond of energy around the twig and lift it up.

Everyone has one thing where they naturally excel at. But with enough training you can learn almost all types of magic. And depending on your own reserves you can use them all."

This was extremely insightful and it gave him in future battles against mages a huge advantage. And for that he was grateful.

But Garen decided it was time, that this was enough tiptoeing. He and wanted to ask about Lux. "Isn't the first type more Dangerous than the second type. I mean they seem to have more power and how I understand it, more potential."

In his head he cursed about being unable to ask the one question he desired most to be answered. But asking it seemed to make it definite. And for now, he found some comfort in the uncertainty. At first, he wanted nothing more than answers, but now…

"It's true they are in most cases most powerful. But they also have a rudimentary understanding on how their powers work and how to control them. At least most of the time. But I believe that controlled power is better than untamed, unmastered wild flowing destructive power. It is better for them and the people around them."

"I still disagree. I still believe that a mage who knows how to use his magic is more dangerous than those who have no idea. But I can understand your point of being better for the people around them, if they where able to target their enemies directly. Or not at all."

He did mean it. From a certain point of view, it was better. But it also meant those mages could reliable take the same people hostage. Heather on the other hand seemed to mean something else with her explanation.

"Please explain to me how having control is better for them. You don't seem to be talking about fighting prowess." "You are right I don't talk about fighting. Every time you use magic the lake drains bit by bit. Now ask yourself this what happens if the lake is drained but you still have a spell ongoing?"

I know the answer. Thought Garen. It was obvious "You are going to die." "Yea. And by the first type they usually have at least the understanding of when to stop because they at least have an idea of what they are doing."

That he could understand but still. From his point of view the second was the "better" type. They lacked control and as such power.

"I.. have one last thing I want to ask you." He broke of his thoughts sharp on target one moment ago scrambled. "I mean… I …." The sentence died in his throat. He couldn't bring himself to say it out loud like it would become more real than it already was.

"Who are you talking about? Family member or friend?" He gulped, and was able to bring out "My sister." After a few moments he added "My younger sister."

"When did you first suspect anything?" "It was a few years ago, some things just didn't ad up and …" He couldn't continue. Maybe if she were part of the military and just ordered him to tell what was up it would be easier for him.

After all, following someone's orders was always easier than being the one to make the decision. But maybe that was the point. Him doing this more or less by himself.

"How old was she when you first noticed something was of? And this is something different than having a concrete suspicion. Just something that in hindsight might have raised red flags."

Garen thought for a moment reliving almost al his early memories of his sister. "I honestly don't know but she couldn't be much older than six." At this she got a shocked look on her face.

"At six years of age" she muttered, and then spoke in hushed tone "That would be most definitely a type one case." "I am not blind. That shocked you! Why?" Garen's voice was shaking, he didn't know if it was out of anger, frustration or fear, but for the first time since he met her she lost the calm look on her face. And that was disturbing.

"To show sings of magic this early, I don't know if I ever heard of something similar happening. For most people it starts at 12 to 13 if you are an early bloomer, that is. Maybe ten but as early as six. That would be extra ordinaire."

That was shocking. Lux was so powerful. So dangerous. It was mindboggling. His own sister was what he feared most. A mage so powerful she was a danger to the world. He … he … he had no idea how to cope with this.

"How … how dangerous would she be? If she wanted to I mean. How much damage could she do?" "It depends how much control she has, it also depends on what magic she uses. She could do tremendous damage to a city but she wouldn't be able to do much more."

That calmed him a bit, but still she added: "She wouldn't be able to destroy countries, and definitely not countries that have a lot of experience in fighting powerful magic users. But now I have a question, why do fear magic so much?"

Garen did not catch her question at first. Still caught up in her words of how powerful Luxana really was. But after a few moments he came around.

"We fear magic because of what the magic has done. This land was once a wasteland. It was all destroyed by the magic of the world runes. And we fear, that one magic user is going to try to use them and all this destruction is going to repeat itself.

We don't … I don't allege ill intend. But power corrupts and even good intentions can lead to harm. We try to limit the chance that such large-scale destruction repeat itself."

Heather scoffed "Rune magic. Only those who have lost common sense would try to use the world runes for their cause." She stopped for a moment and added in a low voice "Or those who are truly desperate.

Do you have any other question for me? Because it's getting late, and I am kind of tired."

"Just one last question. Why are you here and why do you have no idea where you are?" "Took you long enough to ask the most obvious question. Me and my partner found a mage who did some work that would lead frictions between Lords.

Conflicts between lords are pretty common where I'm from, but in this particular case it wasn't unlikely that it could lead to war. So, we decided that we would take care of it. Stop the operation and sweep it under a rug. He didn't like this of course.

He tried to fight us. We where close to winning, but then he used the last bit of magic power he had to send us of somewhere else. I landed in these woods."

That was the first time she mentioned a partner. "Where is your partner?" "I have no ideas but I am not that worried about him. He is the muscle and knows how to us it. If you understand what I mean."

He thought about it. That made sense she didn't seem like the type of person that would force her way through things. She was more slippery like a trickster. Like a trickster. That could mean…

"Are you using magic right know?" She was silent for a moment most likely contemplating if she should say the truth or not.

"Yes, I do use magic right know. A minor illusion spell to be able to pass as human more easily." To pas as human more easily. To pas as human more easily. She was not human "What are you if not human, show me how you really look."

She looked at him at first most likely trying to determine his reaction. She hesitated for a moment. And then a second. And a third. Garen's hand slid slowly to his sword. Before his hand could reach so far, she set herself straight up und and said: "I asked you to trust me so maybe I should trust you first."

With these words she transformed abruptly. One moment ago, she seemed like a normal human woman in her thirties know at the same place now sat a skinny woman. That looked like she hadn't eaten well in all her life.

It was shocking to say the least. After a minute or two of starring, flabbergasted by her transformation, he noticed two pointy ears reaching through her hair.

"As you can see I am human looking even if a little thin, but my ears give away that I am not human. It is just easier to travel unnoticed if I use my illusion spell to hide myself. I mean I would be a bad spy if I where that recognizable."

He had to agree she would get a lot of attention looking like this. And she had a solid point a spy that is easily recognizable was a bad spy.

But if she could change her appearance like this she could be anyone else and this was just another illusion to show him. She could be a noxian spy. But then again, a noxian spy wouldn't use magic in front of him, would they?

He wasn't sure what to believe to be honest. Maybe if he asked her more about her race and her home he could learn more about her.

"What is your race called?" "We call ourselves elves. But I don't life with my people. I found a home in neighboring human country. And this is also the reason why most people call me Hellen. My real name would mark me an elf.

And that would be dangerous. You must know that the humans and elves have a very rocky relationship. We went to war at least dozen times. So, I learned to hide my origin."

She looked at him for the first time she looked unsure what his response would be. And she wasn't wrong he was not sure how to react to the new he just heard.

But he noticed something that didn't seem to make sense. "If your homeland is in a war with the country you reside in … why would you try to help the people there? Why worry about the stability of said country?"

"We were at war. And when I was 17 years old I saw the assassination off the local mayor. I was afraid and ran away. I so desperate that I fled to the one place I thought they wouldn't follow me. The land of our greatest enemy.

It wasn't the smartest decision, but it turned out right. I found someone who was willing to take me in and keep my secret. I found friends and a purpose. I help to prevent war no matter the cost"

She was apparently contempt with her place in the world. Something he wasn't at this moment. Heather went to sleep shortly after, Garen on the other hand thought a long time over the strange conversation they had.

When Garen awoke he was greeted by Heather sitting next to the remains of the bonfire. "And have you decided what to do with me?" After he had eaten.

"No, I have not decided jet. But I have a tendency." He thought for a moment, and then said: "If you promise to leave this country peacefully then I don't see any reason to deny your request.

But if you are stirring up some kind of commotion then I will hunt you down mercilessly."

"We have an agreement then. If you were so kind to point me to the fastest way, I'm gonna be out and about."

With this she left and Garen wondered if he had made the right choice. But he felt that he owed her at least the ability to leave without making hard for her. He owed her at least that much after she helped him clear his head.

Lux. He finally what his view of Lux was. She was dangerous, but that was it. She wasn't going to destroy the world and she had a good heart. She was like every other person around him. Just a little Different.

She was still Lux. She was still his sister.

This one shot is finished and I don't plan on continuing this. I have something planed for Heathers partner. But this is not really areal project jet.
