Chapter 20 - Third Impact.

Shinji's mind was clouded, he could feel Misato's hand on his shoulder guiding him to the infirmary, Shinji knew he wouldn't need this, he knew his body well and it wouldn't be a few punches that would do much damage.

But the greatest damage was in his mind, he was making a great effort to get his emotions under control, to have the idea that Sakura was hurt simply because she had defended him, that had done far greater damage than any weapon.

With a haggard, heavy sigh, Shinji spoke as he walked with more autonomy. "I'm fine Misato." He could feel Sakura's necklace in his hands, the only reminder of Toji that had remained since the infamous third impact.

Misato only turned her head, she was wearing her dark glasses that hid her eyes, she could see that Shinji was physically fine, she knew that a fight like this wouldn't do much damage to a man like Shinji, but unlike her orders, she wanted to be able to have a moment alone with him.

"I know, but the doctor will define that." Misato spoke with authority, but not as the commander of Wunder, but as Shinji's guardian, she was speaking the same way she did in the old days, where concern for the pilots' health was her priority.

Misato looked at the ground, she remembered this memory as clear as day, the day her priorities changed, that day was when she met Shinji, the day she sheltered a shy boy, the boy who had been abandoned by his father.

Everything grew even stronger inside Misato, she still didn't know why she had taken Asuka in a few months later, caring for Shinji awakened something inside Misato, knowing that the damage she had suffered during the second impact had caused permanent effects on her body, one of those effects was the inability to bear children.

And taking in Shinji and Asuka was one of the best things Misato did, she knew they weren't hers, but the love and care she felt for them showed what it would be like to be a mother, she felt like a mother when she looked at these two people, Misato even assumed this on the day Shinji had left.

Misato still caught herself thinking at night about why she had hidden this feeling from both of them for so long, soon Misato's mind recalled a sentence from Shinji, where he mentioned his biggest regret, still shuddering at the thought of Shinji having already assumed that he had tried to commit suicide before, but hearing him say this, only made Misato think about her biggest mistake and she knew very well what it was.

This particular memory was not a particular day or act, but the day she had stopped believing in Shinji's innocence, it was the day she had finally given in to the system and believed what was said, the day Shinji had awakened after being locked up for twelve years inside unit 01, her coldness in seeing him as a murderer instead of the boy she saw as her son.

Trying to clear these feelings from her head, Misato soon felt her anxiety increase severely, she only controlled herself as she always did, but that didn't stop the flow of memories and feelings that her mind was digging into with determination.

Soon Misato bowed her head as she remembered the day of Shinji's trial, how he was slaughtered by the people there, the reality was that it was all symbolic, Shinji was already condemned the moment he woke up and what hurt Misato's mind the most was that she felt complicit in his condemnation, she herself had done nothing to try to help.

Misato still remembered the moment she found out when Shinji had made a last appeal to the court, where he asked for the death penalty, it was at that moment that the chips had fallen for Misato, how she had been dumb enough to have been taken, how he had gone to talk to the judge, ready even to trade her body in exchange for Shinji's life.

But before she had to make this last effort, she remembered running into Kaji that day, the way he had a downcast look on his face, but his mind was focused on how he could make sure Shinji's life was saved.

Kaji had done a lot for Misato that day, he had listened to the whole trial, even Shinji's last appeal, this had caught Kaji, he could never expect this kind of thing from Shinji, he was thinking about how to help him too.

Misato remembered hearing Kaji talk about his plan to help Shinji, but his mind was too focused on how he could convince the judge to change his mind, Kaji saw it in Misato's eyes that day, he could see her desperation about Shinji's life.

She remembered with a smile on her face when he accompanied her to the judge's office to seek a solution for Shinji, Kaji was ready to blackmail her in case Misato failed, but fortunately the judge was a sensible person, she still remembered his question and how he only asked in his cold voice.

- Why? Why shouldn't I comply with your request? -

Misato felt her hands closing, she remembered never thinking of reasons to be able to help Shinji's situation after the third impact, remembered her words clearly, Misato had reopened her heart, her men would never have believed her words, Kaji only believes because he was there.

Misato turned her head as she listened to her thoughts, looking at Shinji's face, she could see his downcast and sad eyes, the emotional pain he must have been feeling, Misato heard herself speaking.

"Shinji Ikari is not a bad person ... He just made a mistake and doesn't deserve to die for it... I feel I can't let him suffer this punishment, he doesn't deserve it ... He needs help and not death."

Misato closed her eyes as she remembered the look Kaji and the Judge had on her, she still didn't know what it was that awakened this feeling inside her, the last few years had been cruel to her, but after Shinji came back into her life, something was born again in her chest.

Misato often caught himself wondering if he had made the right choice in convincing the Judge to spare Shinji's life, not out of hatred or any feelings related to the third impact, but because of all that Shinji had suffered throughout the post-trial times.

She was very naïve to believe that he would be safe in prison, that he would be away from danger and from his father, Misato lowered her gaze as she remembered when she thought of these words, but hearing that he was often beaten, in people's attempts to kill him, Misato closed her eyes to know that many times this happened, that the prison had masked this data.

She still had a lot to put on wavelength with Shinji, she didn't know why he was abandoned in prison, this was something she would always regret, Misato believed this could be her worst mistake, her mind screamed saying she felt shame? Guilt? She didn't know, but that was no excuse, Misato had to fix this mistake.

Still looking at Shinji's face, Misato was lost in her world, still searching for words to start a conversation with him, she could feel that time for this was running out, the hands of the clock kept turning, with each second lost, one that she could no longer recover, it was another step she took, it was one step further away from Shinji.

"Misato."

Misato blinked as she heard Shinji's voice, she could feel how down he was, how he was suffering.

But her thoughts would remain for later, clearing her mind as best she could, Misato spoke. "What is it Shinji?"

Shinji was looking down, he was remembering the fight in the bathroom, the looks on the faces of Misato's men when they saw him holding his enemy, seeing the look of fear in their eyes, both of the attackers and the guards who came to end the mess.

"What will happen to them?" Shinji asked dejected, he could still feel Misato's hands on his shoulder, he could feel that she was guiding him to the infirmary, he could easily get out of her grip and most likely he could walk away and go back to his room.

Misato thought about it, she still remembered when she was informed that Sakura was attacked for defending Shinji, she felt anger, more anger that she felt for Gendo or NERV, she knew that her crew would give trouble regarding Shinji, but she couldn't believe that they would attack the people close to Shinji and still one as innocent as Sakura.

But one thing Misato was feeling proud of, she could see the state of the people in the bathroom, she could see how Shinji had done them justice, how he had demonstrated what would happen to the people who would end up hurting their friends, she still had to punish these people and she would for sure.

Looking at Shinji still waiting for an answer, Misato soon thought, many ideas came to his mind, one more cruel than the other, but one in particular stood out, this would be the best punishment, this one in particular would show the whole crew what would happen to people who thought of doing such a thing again.

"I already know what I'm going to do." Misato spoke darkly, she could see Shinji's face and turning waited for his answer, Misato could see he wanted more details, she knew Shinji wanted to kill these people.

"I'll have them clean the sewage collection chambers." Misato spoke as she looked Shinji in the eye, she could see that this answer would not be enough for him, but it would be for the moment.

"And what's going to happen to me?" Shinji asked dismissively as he saw the colors of the infirmary, he knew Sakura was still around, most likely he would have to face Asuka giving him a telling off about his reckless behavior.

Misato thought about the answer, she knew that Shinji would most likely have to be punished, but a thought crossed her mind, a thought she liked very much, knowing full well that Shinji had been a victim in this circumstance, he should not have stood up to the three assailants, but Misato did not want to have to punish him, she only did what her mind judged to be right. "Nothing."

Shinji turned his head to face her slightly shocked, the pain in his nose seemed to have no effect, he just stared at Misato, he couldn't see her eyes, she kept her posture cold. "What do you mean?"

Misato shrugged, she knew Shinji couldn't see her eyes and most likely her external posture was rigid. "You didn't do anything wrong, those people attacked you, you just defended yourself, that's what I saw and that's what happened."

Misato could see how Shinji was still staring at her in confusion, she was ready to speak more, but soon she realized when the large door to the ward section opened.

Sakura was sitting with downcast eyes, the news of the fight in the bathroom soon took over Wunder, Sakura was feeling even more guilty about it, she didn't want Shinji to get hurt because of her.

"Girl, you want to calm down? " Asuka spoke without patience, she was worried about Shinji and moments like this ended her patience, she knew Misato had gone to resolve the situation.

Asuka was walking from one side to the other in the infirmary, Mari only followed her with her eyes, she was holding Sakura's hand, she could see that Asuka didn't like having to wait, but Misato had been very clear, it wasn't for them to leave the infirmary.

"Asuka." Mari tried to speak, but she could see in Asuka's eyes that her words would do no good. "Asuka!"

"That brat." Asuka spoke as she paced back and forth, her hands were clasped. "How can he go there? Didn't I say Misato would take care of it? "

"Asuka." Mari called out again, she knew Asuka was about to explode.

"No, he has to play the hero!" Asuka grumbled.

"Asuka."

"Was?! (What?!)." Asuka shouted in German to the person who was calling her attention, soon her eyes noticed the person who called her, seeing Rei's intense red eyes staring at her with their vacant gaze, Asuka only stared in shock.

Sakura turned her head and faced Rei, she was worried about Shinji, Mari was on the same path.

Rei didn't mind everyone's eyes being on her, like everyone else she was worried about Shinji, but staying like this wouldn't help anything, her mind was still judging whether or not to speak what was on her mind right now, but one thing Rei knew was that Shinji wouldn't like to see Asuka in this state.

"What's up wonder girl?!" Asuka spoke as she saw the silence in Rei's eyes, patience was not her strong suit, she did not like to be interrupted in her stressful moments.

"I bet Shinji wouldn't want to see you in this state." Rei spoke in her monotone voice, watching as everyone stared at her stiffly and expectantly. "I can understand that you don't like me, but I can understand why Shinji did what he did."

Asuka still felt the anger running inside her, partly because Shinji had gone to face the attackers alone, partly because she was being comforted by Rei, her greatest enemy in this world.

Rei stared at Asuka with intensity, seeing that she had everyone's attention still. "Shinji is feeling guilty." Seeing how this seemed to have affected Asuka, she noticed how everyone lowered their gaze. "Doing that must have somehow assuaged the guilt he must be feeling for being the cause of one of his friends getting hurt because of him."

"But ... He's not to blame for that, I should have been more careful." Sakura spoke dejectedly, she knew very well that Shinji would not take this fact well.

"He doesn't see it that way, his mind must be blaming himself for letting it get close to you." Rei spoke as she looked Sakura in the eye.

Everyone was silent, but soon this was broken when the doors opened, soon everyone's eyes focused on the person entering, Asuka's eyes passed through the color of Misato's coat, she could see that she was leading a person and that person was Shinji.

"Shinji!" Sakura jumped out of bed at the sight of the blood on Shinji's face, her worries cried out at the sight of Shinji entering.

"Easy Sakura." Shinji spoke as he raised his hands. "It's just a nose, it's not that bad, after I wash my face I'll be fine."

Seeing Sakura still trying to check his injuries, soon Shinji's eyes locked on Asuka's who was watching him from afar, he could see her shocked look, but before he dealt with Asuka he had to do one thing.

Misato moved a little away from Shinji, she could see Sakura trying to work on him, but soon her focus fell on Asuka and Mari, approaching with her arms crossed. "Asuka."

Asuka didn't answer, her eyes were on Shinji, but soon she turned her head and faced Misato, Mari was quiet in the chair next to Rei.

"I will need your help." Misato spoke as he looked down. "I want you two in my living room when this is all over."

Asuka knew Misato's motive, most likely she was going to try to work things out between her and Shinji, she still didn't understand the reason for her presence, but she knew very well that it would be tense, she only nodded.

"How was it?" Asuka asked as she crossed her arms.

"Well." Misato started talking, she knew Asuka wanted to know about the assailants, soon her eyes fell on Sakura looking down Shinji's nose. "Shinji is not in trouble, he literally blew the three guys in the bathroom away."

"Good." Mari spoke as she smiled at Shinji, Sakura was one of her close friends from Wunder, Mari was still waiting for Misato's punishment.

Misato only stared at Mari with tired eyes, she knew that her worst battle would be fought in her office, but she knew that she should soon solve the issue of the assailants by taking her personal radio.

"Misato to Ritsuko." Misato brought the radio to her forehead in a sign of weariness, she could see everyone's gaze on her.

"Ritsuko." The cold, contemptuous voice flooded in.

"I want all three offenders to have a DSS choker and to be put in a joint cell." Misato spoke professionally.

"É ... Isn't that a lot?" Ritsuko replied doubtfully.

"No." Was Misato's dry reply as she hung up, soon she put the radio down and looked into the face and Mari and Asuka.

"When you guys are done here, in my office." Misato spoke as she put her glasses back on and headed for the exit, but not before stopping and putting her hand on Shinji's shoulder again.

Shinji could see Misato's hand, he only heard her speaking. "When all this is over, come to my office, let's talk."

She only received a nod from Shinji, she could see Sakura looking down, with that said, she only continued her way to her room, it was very likely that she was going to have to face Ritsuko.

Sakura again turned her work on Shinji, soon she noticed when the assailants were brought into the infirmary, Asuka made a great effort not to finish what Shinji started, but soon her eyes widened when two men came in unconscious and one extremely shaken and bruised.

"See?!" Mari spoke as she walked past them, she was pleased with the state of the men, along with Misato's punishment, but she had to say something, soon she noticed the look on the one man's face that was awake, but she spoke loud enough for everyone present to hear. "That's what happens when you're a sucker!"

Asuka only smiled at the words of her sister, with her it was only necessary a look for the man to tremble with fear, soon the three remaining girls joined Sakura.

"I'm sorry Sakura." Shinji spoke dejectedly as she had the blood wiped from his face.

"It wasn't your fault Shinji." Sakura spoke as she picked up her instruments, but soon she felt Shinji's hands holding hers, her eyes filled with tears at seeing her necklace in Shinji's hands.

"I really am sorry Sakura." Shinji spoke dejectedly, he could see Sakura's eyes locked on the necklace, seeing how she probably missed her brother, Shinji wished he could talk to Toji one more time.

Sakura recovered quickly, she only looked Shinji in the eye and spoke with a smile. "No, I have to thank you ... you got my necklace back."

Shinji had a small smile on his face, but the guilt for having made Sakura hurt herself was still there, and soon he felt a hand hitting his head from behind.

"Asuka!" Sakura spoke in shock, Shinji was injured and had just been hit again, even Mari had a shocked look on her face.

"Idiot!" Asuka shouted into Shinji's face, she was upset that Shinji had acted recklessly again. "What was in your head!? What if they had a gun or something!?"

Shinji only gave a small smile, he found Asuka's concern cute and only started to laugh.

Asuka stared at her shocked, he was laughing at her worries, even Mari had a nervous smile on her face, Rei watched everything with curiosity, she was already reassured to see Shinji well.

Shinji stopped laughing and spoke with a smile on his face, exchanging a quick glance with Sakura. "Worried about me?"

Asuka blushed at Shinji's insinuation, still seeing his smile, she put a scowl on her face, but her mind was not prepared with Shinji's next sentence.

"You know what Asuka? You look really pretty when you're angry." Shinji spoke still maintaining a smile, Sakura tried to hide the smile on her face, Mari started to giggle a little, even Rei smiled.

Asuka blushed even more, seeing how Shinji had managed to make her speechless, she decided to speak her standard responses, but she had no way to retort. "You..." With her eyes falling on Sakura, Asuka spoke quickly, still blushing. "See to it that he gets stitched up fast! Misato wants us in her room!"

Shinji still maintained his smile, he watched as she turned and started to leave the infirmary room extremely flushed with Mari following her soon after, giving a small grimace as she felt Sakura wiping her nose. "That will be sore tomorrow."

"Yes it will." Sakura spoke as she stopped what she was doing, looking Shinji in the eye, she spoke seriously. "Thank you Shinji."

Shinji only looked at the young doctor and nodded. "That's something Toji taught me." Shinji noticed Sakura's gaze light up. "Nobody messes with my friends."

Sakura widened her smile as she went back to work, to hear Shinji considering them as friends, made her day light again, not even her injuries would be able to spoil it, soon she tried to finish what she was doing, she knew about Misato's order and didn't want to leave the commander waiting.

(*)

Misato was in her office, still looking for a way to get this conversation started with Shinji, knowing that it wasn't going to be easy and soon Misato remembered her first meeting with Shinji, his harsh and heavy words had taken a toll on her mind.

Bringing her hands to face, Misato gave a long sigh as she closed her eyes and hid them, her mind was still searching for the best way to start this conversation.

"Damn." Misato growled as she felt the anxiety, talking to Shinji about events was not being easy, even the hardest battles were not showing that difficulty. "Just talk normally."

KNOCK ON THE DOOR.

Soon Misato only watched as Ritsuko entered, as usual she carried her tablet and smoked a cigarette, her face carried her cold and disdainful look, Misato gave a sigh when she saw her colleague, she imagined it would be Shinji or Asuka.

"So." Ritsuko spoke as she tried to start a conversation, she could see that Misato was under a lot of pressure regarding what happened to Sakura and Shinji, her mind was debating Misato's last order, about putting those involved with a DSS choker, Ritsuko thought it was overkill.

"So what?" Misato replied in a confused voice, looking at the documents on her desk, her mind thinking all the time how she was going to start the conversation with Shinji.

Releasing the smoke, Ritsuko turned her gaze to Misato, speaking dismissively. "Don't you think your punishment is an exaggeration?"

Misato only lifted her gaze and stared Ritsuko in the eye, still trying to understand how she could be wrong, these three men not only attacked a medical officer and a superior inside Wunder in duty time.

"No, they'll get what they deserve." Misato spoke angrily as she faced Ritsuko, "They're going to put on the choker and they're going to clean out Wunder's sewage containers."

Ritsuko stared at her with a cold stare, but her mind knew what was going to happen, she knew that Misato was being cruel to men because of Shinji, she was showing that it was not for other episodes like this to happen. "But I still think it's overkill."

Misato closed her fists, his patience running out too easily at these moments. "So what if it is?! They deserve it! I can't have delinquents attacking crew members for fun!"

"Can't they be crew members? Or can't they attack Shinji?" Ritsuko asked as she held a cigarette between her fingers. "I warned Misato, I warned you that the crew would not accept."

Misato closed her eyes in annoyance. "What are you implying?"

Ritsuko took a drag on her cigarette and spoke coldly. "You are protecting Shinji, even too much."

"Protecting!? So what if I am protecting him?! And what should I have done!? Explain it to me?!" Misato spoke strongly as she faced Ritsuko, "Should I have put the blame on Shinji and had his cell rebuilt like in those days?! I know, how about giving them a promotion?!"

Ritsuko only stared at her former friend with cold eyes, her mind thinking it an exaggeration to have made the men have to put on a bomb choker. "What will the crew think when they see that Shinji has benefits in here? That he can beat up his countrymen and nothing will happen to him? Do you think they will respect you after that?"

"Those guys." Misato spoke as she pointed to the wall. "When we stop at some WILLE resource port, they'll be off my ship and that's that." Misato stood up and spoke in a controlled, strong voice as she leaned on the table. "I was pretty clear Ritsuko, the crew will have to understand that Shinji is part of Wunder now, whether they like it or not! Have I been clear enough now?"

Ritsuko only nodded, she could see that Misato was speaking adamantly, adjusting herself and standing up, Ritsuko looked at Misato coldly. "I hope you know what you are doing, but I also want to make one thing very clear to you, when Shinji fails and he will, I will not feel sorry when remembering since fact."

Misato only stared when Ritsuko turned and left the room, she listened as the door closed and she was alone again, sitting down she thought about Ritsuko's words, Shinji would never betray her, Misato had a strong conviction about that.

Bringing her hands to her face again, Misato thought about the day she was having, she knew that if Shinji was a normal crew member, he would now be having to clean the sewers of the Wunder, but she knew she couldn't blame her former protected for taking care of his friends.

Opening a drawer in her desk, Misato took out a photo, looking at the faces in it, again a smile returned on her face, looking at everyone smiling.

This picture was of the old days, of how her life was simpler and she never realized it, all she had to do was kill the angels and stop two teenagers from killing each other inside her apartment and make sure her penguin didn't starve to death.

With a smile on her face, Misato gave a weak and nervous laugh, how she wishes those times would come back, how she wishes those moments in her life would come back, she would trade everything to be able to have that life back, the only thing she would keep was decrease with the beer.

But soon her mind fell on her mission, she knew she would have to stop Gendo and NERV, but it wasn't that mission that her mind was thinking about, but how she could make a certain man forgive her, how she could make things go back to the way they were, even a little.

"What the fuck!" Misato growled as she closed her drawer tightly, her hands trembled knowing that it was only a matter of time before Shinji appeared, clutching her head tightly, she pleaded. "What am I going to do? What am I going to do?"

Gasping heavily as she clutched her head tightly, Misato tried to get up, going to the window and looking at the horizon, Misato tried to distract herself by looking at the clouds and the red ocean below her.

"Is that how he feels?" Misato wondered as she felt the guilt for her mistakes with Shinji, she could feel what it felt like to have despair hit, to know that things were with like this because of you, that you had abandoned him in the hour when that person needed it most.

Soon her train of thought returned to normal, she knew that she should be calm at this moment, she knew that losing her head would not help the current situation, that she should be calm to face Shinji's gaze again, that she should have her mind ready to face the tense atmosphere that would arise in this room.

With long inhales and sighs, Misato closed her eyes as she felt calm again flooding her body, soon she could return to rational and calm thinking. "You can do this."

KNOCK ON THE DOOR.

Misato gave a sigh again as she knew who should be there, looking down at her steady hands, she soon spoke keeping her voice calm and determined. "Come in."

Seeing the door opening, she recognized the red hair of Asuka entering maintaining her familiar sullen posture, soon Misato's eyes locked on the person behind Asuka, seeing Shinji's downcast face maintaining the cold, tough posture he created.

Entering the office, Misato pointed to the chairs, seeing Shinji and Asuka sitting and waiting, Misato also sat down and took a deep breath.

Asuka knew that her presence was to provide support, as she had already adjusted with Shinji so to speak, but the silence was driving her crazy. "So, we're here."

Misato only nodded, she knew the mood would get awkward, soon her eyes fell on Shinji and she spoke in a cautious voice. "I ... I don't know how to say this."

Shinji just waited for the words, deep down he could feel that this would be the day he would have "the talk" with Misato, he wanted some answers, but he didn't feel ready yet, as he would never feel ready for moments like this.

"I bet you must have a lot of questions." Misato spoke as she looked down at her desk, her mind screaming telling him that this would be a bad idea.

"Yes I do." Shinji spoke low, but kept his gaze on Misato the whole time.

"You may do." Misato spoke as she put a nervous smile on her face, Asuka only watched everything intently, she could feel the bad atmosphere.

"When I was absorbed ... Did you guys at least try to rescue me?" Shinji asked still holding his gaze, he was going to start at the beginning.

Misato closed her eyes as she remembered those times, but she had taken an oath to finally get things back on track. "No ... No one knew what had happened and all they knew was that you were gone."

Shinji felt a pang of anger upon hearing this, but he would keep calm. "Why ... Why didn't anyone bother to rescue me?"

"Everyone wanted to be able to know what had happened, all eyes had focused on us after that day, your recovery was not the priority." Misato spoke cautiously, but she felt downcast at having to recall those memories.

Shinji closed his eyes as he controlled his emotions, his mind wanted more answers, but something in him would not like the answers. "What about you? ... Was I not the priority for you?"

Misato shuddered at Shinji's words, she could feel that he had already started to lose patience, but she couldn't judge him for that. "It was for me, but I had no way to help you, the world already wanted a culprit."

"So you've already thrown the blame on me?" Shinji retorted as he raised his voice a little, he was not shouting, but speaking strongly. "Just like that?"

"Things were getting heavy, there were few people who believed in their innocence and over time they were losing their voices." Misato spoke as she lowered her gaze to the table. "Over time people stopped believing in you."

"Did that include you?" Shinji asked as he closed his fists as he asked this, he wouldn't need to listen to the answer to know what had happened to Misato.

"Yes." Misato spoke with embarrassment. "I stopped believing after about five years."

Shinji closed his eyes as he heard this, he could feel his body wanting to explode. "And you didn't even judge that you might be wrong?"

"I ... I ..." Misato began to stammer out a response, but she was soon cut off by Shinji.

"Fuck Misato!" Shinji exploded as he stood up, Asuka gave a little jump when she saw Shinji's explosion. "You were there that day!"

Misato only bowed her head as she felt the shame, she knew she had witnessed the third impact from the front row and she had no excuse not to believe what her eyes showed. "I don't know."

"You don't know!" Shinji spoke strongly as he approached the table. "You don't know!"

"Shinji." Asuka spoke as she stood up and put a hand on Shinji's shoulder in hopes of calming him down, now she had understood why she was there.

Misato only saw the look of betrayal in Shinji's eyes, she knew what she had done was not something that would be easily forgiven, that this was something that in her view was worse than the near fourth impact, she only looked at Shinji with tears in her eyes.

Shinji seeing Misato's silence on this decided to speak, his voice still carrying the feeling of betrayal and anger. "You know the truth! But you chose the quickest way ... You know what hell has been like for me?! Do you know what it's like to carry this guilt alone? No! You don't know!"

Misato felt a tear running down her face, she knew she deserved Shinji's words.

Shinji could feel Asuka's hand on his shoulder, soon his eyes fell on Asuka's, he could see her gaze, soon his anger was starting to dissolve, his mind telling him that he shouldn't blow up at Misato that she wasn't to blame, just as Asuka wasn't to blame for anything.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, he remembered what had happened to Sakura, most likely they would meet a similar or worse fate for trying to ease his case, his eyes fell on Misato's tear, another great feeling of guilt flooded his body, just like Asuka, he hated to see Misato unhappy.

Asuka saw that he calmed down enough, she saw Shinji's outburst, really carrying this guilt shouldn't be easy, again a feeling of helplessness arose in her body.

Sitting down again, Shinji spoke, keeping his voice calmer, he spoke dejectedly. "Sorry, it's not your fault."

Misato raised her head in shock, she didn't want Shinji to take on this burden any longer. "No Shinji, that's my fault."

"Even if you were that day." Shinji spoke as he felt his eyes burning. "It is you who are living this hell." Soon Misato noticed Shinji's eyes becoming lost in painful memories. "If I had come back earlier, you wouldn't have had to face the shame."

Misato was shocked even more by this, she quickly spoke up. "No! You are not an embarrassment!"

"It's no excuse Shinji." Asuka spoke as she entered the conversation, she kept her voice level, but deep down she felt emotion taking over. "We shouldn't have given in."

Misato nodded, soon she spoke with a downcast voice as she remembered the third impact. "As you said, I was there, I should have tried harder to help you."

Shinji wished he could speak more, but soon he spoke in an extremely downcast and broken voice. "I just wanted to save Rei, I couldn't bear to lose anyone else, I didn't know that would happen."

Misato promptly stood up, she cautiously lowered herself to Shinji's eye level and spoke in a broken voice with tears streaming down her face. "I know ... I know Shinji."

Asuka watching everything was struggling to keep the tears under control, she saw Shinji slowly losing his tough guy armor, as he was slowly returning to being that boy she knew fourteen years ago.

Shinji was fighting fiercely to keep up, but this battle was being lost with great ease. "I'm not like my father ... What do I have to do to make people see that?"

"You don't have to do anything Shinji." Misato spoke as she pulled Shinji into a hug, soon she felt him slip his arms around her waist and returning the hug. "I believe you, I believe you that you would never cause this."

Shinji laid his head on Misato's shoulders and closed his eyes, hearing this from her had had a good effect on his body, but he still had a question. "Misato ... Why did you throw me away?"

Misato's eyes widened, this was that question she wished Shinji wouldn't ask.

Shinji squeezed her even tighter as she spoke in a crying voice, her times there had been bad, fighting for her life almost daily. "Why did you guys dump me in that prison?"

Misato thought hard as he spoke his answer. "Shinji I don't know ... I swear I don't know ... I believed it would be safer for you to stay there ... I didn't have the courage to look into your eyes after what had happened."

Shinji felt tears streaming down his face, but soon he was flooded with memories, of all the beatings, all the assassination attempts, and all the fights. "Protect me? You wanted me dead, that's what you did."

Misato squeezed Shinji tighter, hearing him say this hurt her heart. "No Shinji, I swear I didn't know that happened ... I looked at the reports every day to see how you were doing ... They were manipulated ... I swear I didn't know."

Shinji buried his head in Misato's shoulders and wept openly, Asuka was watching everything, she had finally lost the battle against emotion and began to cry too.

"If I had known this was happening, I would have pulled you out myself." Misato spoke as she gave Shinji the strongest of hugs, with a long breath she spoke. "Shinji you were the best thing that ever happened to me ... You don't know how much I love you."

Shinji's eyes widened as he heard this, these three words were powerful, feeling as if something was broken in his mind, he had never heard anyone speak these words to him before. "Really?"

"Yes Shinji ... You have nothing to apologize for ... I have to apologize." Misato spoke as she buried her head in Shinji's shoulders and wept. "I'm sorry I abandoned you!"

Shinji was still feeling shocked by these words, looking quickly at Asuka who was standing there looking at everything with tears streaming down her face, Shinji looked at her and they both looked at each other.

Misato finally controlled herself enough, breaking the embrace, soon she looked Shinji in the eye as she spoke. "Shinji I swear ... I swear I will work to prove your innocence."

"It doesn't give Misato ... Even though I didn't want to, I did it." Shinji spoke in a desperate voice. "There's no way to fix this! I've put everyone through hell! "

"No matter, I will work as hard as I can to help you ... I swear Shinji, do you understand?" Misato asked keeping her voice determined, she was going to talk to Kaji about it, ask how she could help.

Shinji only nodded, but deep down he knew that the case of the third impact was something he would never fix, this was something he would forever have to live with, something he would only be at peace with when he breathed his last.

(*)

After tempers had calmed down, Shinji left Misato's office, he was feeling better, knowing that Misato didn't hate him was a big help, but the third impact still haunted him, Asuka was by his side, she could see that the conversation helped him, but when the subject came to the third impact, she could see that it still hurt him.

Standing in front of his room, Shinji was thinking about everything, with the memories about the bloody third one impacting his mind, his emotions were running a thousand per hour, his mind was screaming calling him a murderer and a monster.

"Well ... I'm going to my room." Asuka spoke embarrassed, she wished she could stay with Shinji tonight, she felt he would need help now that a lot must be rolling through his head.

Shinji looked at Asuka, her eyes were still red, he didn't know why, but something in his mind was screaming to stay with her. "Asuka wait." Shinji held her hand.

Seeing the look in Shinji's eyes, Asuka knew what his request would be, and could see all his suffering and anguish.

"Please stay." Shinji spoke in a voice full of emotion. "I don't want to be alone ... Please help me."

Asuka looked him in the eye as she saw that he was about to collapse, knowing that they took a big step after what they did, blushing at the memory. "Okay ... I just have to pay for some clothes, I can't stay like this." Asuka gestured to the clothes she had stayed in all day.

"Sure." Shinji spoke as he opened the door to his room, but before it closed, Asuka spoke again, afraid that his current state would think wrong. "Hey ... I'll be back, give me about ten minutes."

Shinji just nodded, watching Asuka take the key card to his room, he just had to wait, but his demons were screaming in his mind, so he leaned against the wall and sat on the floor, closing his eyes and counting the minutes for Asuka's return.

(*)

After taking her clothes and throwing them into a backpack, Asuka had to deal with Mari giving her advice on how to cheer up a man, Asuka was blushing at the things her sister said and how did she have this knowledge?

Asuka was lost in thought, Shinji's gaze never left her head, but soon Mari spoke as she smiled like a cat, as always she had the best words to break anyone, sticking her head out into the hallway and shouting to Asuka. "Hey! ... Did you get the condom?!"

Asuka stopped her trajectory, blushing hard she turned around as she screamed with all the force of her lungs. "Four-Eyes!"

Mari looked at her smiling, "What? It's not like you guys are just going to sit around and talk! I'm a realist, girl! Take advantage of the fact that the puppy is vulnerable." After saying that, Mari showed her tongue as she walked back into the room, Asuka took a few seconds to recover, clearing her mind quickly, she returned her trajectory, she knew Shinji needed her.

Stopping again at the door to Shinji's room, Asuka swiped the card and soon the door opened, entering and noticing Shinji sitting on the side of the bed, she could see that the third impact was haunting him.

"I can't handle it Asuka." Shinji spoke as he saw Asuka in the doorway, soon his eyes fell on hers. "I can't handle it anymore."

Asuka threw her backpack on the ground and calmly sat down next to him, she spoke calmly. "We'll help you." But soon a thought popped into Asuka's mind. "Where is that guy who did all that? Take the SEELES ... Stealing unit 01 and all ... Where's that manhood?"

Shinji gave a fake laugh, but the truth was that being on Wunder was draining him, he was not being able to deal with the faces of the crew members. "I can't deal with people, back then I was alone, I didn't have to face any faces, I didn't see the faces of the people I ruined my life ... It was easier when I was alone. "

Asuka moistened her lips, she had never been good at lifting people's spirits, that role was Mari's. "I'll help you, so will Misato ... But no crying! "

Asuka was looking at the sitting Shinji extremely haggard, immediately a thought popped into her mind, where was that brave and tough Shinji? "Hey ... Where is that Shinji who beats up anyone who looks at him funny? The invincible Shinji? I don't want to be seen with a loser."

Asuka spoke proudly as she stood up, she had hoped that massaging Shinji's ego might help. "Hey Baka Shinji, I want more cheer and less of that there, you are now a companion of the Amazing Asuka Shikinami and I don't want that face no, you are now part of the elite."

"Elite?" Shinji spoke as she looked up, she could see Asuka standing there with her hands on her hips showing her stateliness, she really looked beautiful with her angry look, but one word she spoke was on her mind. "Companion?"

Asuka snorted, she only spoke as she stretched out her hand to Shinji. "What?! You think what I did to you I'll do to anyone!? You think I'm a slut?!" Asuka spoke with fake annoyance, the truth was that Shinji had been her first.

Shinji giggled as he listened, but soon he noticed Asuka giving him a hand, Shinji looked at her extremely flushed face, he didn't understand the reason, but still he took her hand and got up from the floor.

Asuka couldn't believe what she was about to do, but she would follow her sister's advice, looking Shinji in the eye, Asuka soon tried to hold his head and give him a deep kiss, seeing how he returned the affection calmed her.

Stepping away and looking Shinji in the eye, Asuka spoke blushing. "Let's take a shower and relax that tired body."

Shinji blushed at the insinuation and stammered, no matter how many fights he got into, how many EVAS he stole, how many SEELES he arrested, Asuka still had great power over him, next to her he felt like a child again. "We ... Us together?"

"What? Did you think I was going to give you a private show, you pervert?!" Asuka spoke indignantly at Shinji's lack of tact, he might be a good EVA pilot, good fighter, but when it came to girls he was horrible. "We have to finish what we started."

Shinji saw Asuka blush heavily, but he quickly proceeded to give her a long, passionate kiss. Asuka spoke as she pulled away and spoke between kisses, many of which she was the one giving . "Don't get used to it you hentai ... Don't go thinking that just because you're sad that I'm going to cheer you up ... Pervert."

Shinji only laughed at Asuka's words, but the truth was that even if she was not at this level of intimacy with him, just her mere presence was already helping him, knowing that he had arranged things with Misato and Asuka had already helped him a lot, he would only have to have the courage to say the words Misato spoke to him, but now to Asuka, to finally say the words that perfectly defined his feelings for her.

(*)

It had been a few days since Misato had spoken to Shinji, she could feel that a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders, she still had a lot to say, but at least a big step had already been taken by both of them.

Misato knew that things would never be the same again, but at least it was as she had talked about, at least she had managed to fix things a little.

Ritsuko was sitting in front of Misato, both were focused on their duties, Misato was with the general reports on enemy presence and the general operation of Wunder.

Ritsuko was with the updates on the EVAS, seeing how they were already at full combat capability and all damage already restored, but her eyes were focused on the Unit 01 core activity figures, frowning as she looked at everything closely.

Misato raised her gaze as she saw Ritsuko mumbling words she couldn't understand. "What is it?"

Ritsuko lit a cigarette as she thought about why the unit 01 core never went inactive, this was something unusual, because when the EVA was turned off, everything went inactive, it was as if unit 01 always stayed activated. "It's unit 01, its values are unnatural."

"What do you mean?" Misato asked puzzled, soon she leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms in waiting for the explanation.

Ritsuko held the cigarette between her lips and explained. "Your core never goes dormant, EVAS when they go dormant, even their cores shut down, this is not happening with unit 01, it's like it's never shut down."

Misato nodded slightly, she knew something was going on in this unit, remembering how only Shinji was able to fly it, something very suspicious revolved around this unit. "What's your theory?"

Ritsuko only shrugged, but deep down she had a theory as to why that was, Ritsuko's mind clearly knew that Yui's soul resided within the core of unit 01. "I don't know."

Misato only let out a snort, not believing these words one bit. "Come on Rits, we both know that's not possible, you always have a theory."

Ritsuko gave a smile, she knew Misato was right, taking a long drag on her cigarette, she soon thought about what she would talk about. "I believe that because Unit 01 has already gone through the awakening, it is somehow awake."

"Awake?" Misato replied confused, Ritsuko smiled as she saw the ignorance in Misato's eyes.

Ritsuko spoke as she held the cigarette between her fingers. "EVA armor is not just simple armor ... It exists for containment as well."

"Containment of what?" Misato asked as she started to get moody, she didn't like being left out of crucial information.

"You didn't really think the EVAS were simple war robots did you?" Ritsuko retorted wryly as she smoked a cigarette.

Misato only stared at Ritsuko with a thoughtful look, but before she could say anything else, an alert flashed on her computer, turning her face to see the reason for the alert, she soon realized it was a signal from WILLE.

Typing some commands into her computer, soon Kaji's face appeared, Misato made a face of disgust at seeing her former boyfriend. "What do you want?"

Ritsuko only gave a small smile when she heard this, then Kaji's voice echoed through Misato's room.

"Hello Katsuragi, talking like that you hurt my poor heart." Kaji spoke with false sadness as he placed his hand on chest, he kept the wry smile on his face.

"Kaji I really don't have time now." Misato spoke tiredly, she still had a lot to talk about with Ritsuko about the EVAS.

"I guarantee you will like it, I sent something to Wunder intended for you." Kaji spoke dismissively.

Misato rolled her eyes, but she can't help but feel puzzled. "What is it?"

Kaji smiled as he spoke. "Nothing too much, just WILLE stuff, you'll really like it."

Misato spoke grumpily, she remembered an episode many years ago where Kaji had sent her a report, but in the middle of the file was a naked picture of him.

"That was an accident." Kaji spoke as he put on his smile, but soon he became serious, something even Misato noticed. "It will be of interest to you, I assure you."

Misato blinked when she saw when Kaji ended the transmission, feeling her mind wanting information, exchanging a quick glance with Ritsuko, Misato tried to open his files and could see the message.

Frowning as he saw that it was common working files, but one image file caught her attention, it was too big to be a simple photo.

"I knew it." Misato spoke as she looked at the picture of a watermelon, with a message. "They are beautiful when they grow." But soon she was puzzled, the size of the file was too large.

"What?" Ritsuko spoke as she stood up and looked at the photo. "Five hundred megabytes for a simple photo."

Completely ignoring Misato, Ritsuko soon activated an analysis program, watching as a progress bar activated, both looked at the screen expectantly.

"There's a video file hidden in it." Ritsuko spoke as she looked curiously at the screen.

"Play." Ordered Misato as she looked at the screen, she could see Ritsuko typing frantically, soon both of their eyes went wide with the images.

Soon the WILLE symbol appeared with the letters showing information of extreme secrecy, Misato and Ritsuko looked at the WILLE logo with a look of doubt on their faces, what was WILLE hiding?

The video showed an external NERV camera, Misato knew what this place was, looking at the date, she could see that it was the day of the third impact.

Misato and Ritsuko looked at the video, they saw when Unit 01 appeared fighting Zeruel, looking sadly at the images, she knew that Shinji was giving it his all on this day, too bad they didn't know what would happen.

Seeing how the third impact ritual began, Misato wanted to turn it off, these memories were too hard for her, but if Kaji had sent her this video, something he wanted Misato to see.

Ritsuko looked closely at the video, she could see when Unit 01 rose into the sky in its awakened form, the gates of Guf were already open, but soon her eyes widened, everyone saw when a spear stopped Unit 01 and closed the gates.

"That ... That's Mark 06?" Misato asked shocked, it hadn't been as she remembered it, having few memories of that particular day, but she didn't remember having another EVA. "He stopped the third impact! "

Ritsuko only stared at the screen with shocked eyes, she could see when everyone collapsed to the ground shortly before Mark 06 appeared. "I ... I don't know."

Misato's eyes widened even more as it restarted the third impact, she could see when Unit 01 fell to the ground and in its place, Mark 06 opened his arms in the shape of a cross and again the gates of Guf opened and the video ends.

"Oh my god." Misato spoke as she put her hand to her head, Ritsuko slowly returned to the chair in front of Misato, both had a shocked look on their faces, this video showed what the real third impact had looked like, clearly showing that the real villain had been Mark 06 and not Unit 01 as everyone thought.

But that only did one thing in Misato's mind, soon the image of Shinji popped into her head, how he was blamed for everything and most shockingly, WILLE knew the truth all along and did nothing.

Ritsuko sometime watched as Misato picked up her communicator and spoke frantically. "Mari! Is Asuka with you? ... Go get Shinji and come to my office ... Mari now!"

Ritsuko only watched as Misato stared back at her, lighting a cigarette and taking a long drag, this was too much to handle right now. "What's going on Misato?"

"I don't know." Misato spoke as she looked at the monitor screen, the image of Mark 06 causing the third impact hit Misato hard, all these years people really were blaming the wrong person and worst of all, WILLE knew the truth, why did they throw the blame on Shinji?

(*)

Shinji was in his bed, he was spending a lot of time with Asuka these days, they were both talking a lot about their relationship, but now he was alone, again looking at the ceiling of his room.

Really Asuka was being a great help to him, not because of the intimacy they were sharing, but because of how she was helping to keep his mind from exploding.

He still had nightmares, but sleeping next to Asuka was managing to keep them away, whenever he was with him, Shinji could experience the closest thing it would be to having peace.

His room was silent, but this was broken when the sound of someone knocking on his bedroom door, with a tired snort, Shinji went to the door and opened it revealing Mari's smiling face and Asuka's frowning look, but this didn't stop them from exchanging a smile.

"Hello puppy!" Mari spoke smiling as she gestured with her hands, seeing how Shinji exchanged smiles with Asuka, Mari spoke smiling like a cat. "Sorry Shinji, but the threesome I promised won't be today."

Shinji only stared into Mari's shocked eyes, he could see Asuka cast a dangerous glance at Mari's back, but before she exploded, Mari spoke again. "Misato wants us in her office, now."

Shinji looked confused at Mari, still not understanding why Misato wanted them at this hour, but he decided not to question.

The way to the office was quiet, Mari was saying something about Maya and soap, but Shinji's mind was still focused on figuring out why Misato was calling them.

His thoughts were broken when he felt Asuka's hand grasp his, and soon the two of them exchanged smiles as they walked in silence, only Mari's voice echoing through the halls.

Arriving at the office, everyone was silent as they saw the atmosphere of the place, a bad mood was in the air.

"What happened?" Asuka asked apprehensively, the last time Misato had suddenly called everyone like this, something very bad had happened.

"What we're going to show is ... let's say strong." Ritsuko spoke as she smoked a cigarette, this only made suspicions increase even more.

"Shinji." Misato spoke as she stared her former guardian in the eye, she was starting to feel uncomfortable with everything. "You'll want to sit down."

"What's going on Misato?" Shinji asked as he crossed his arms, leaning on the wall and staring Misato and Ritsuko in the eyes.

Mari was also standing next to Asuka, she could feel the bad mood, a strong tension was in the air, she brought her head close to Asuka's ear and spoke just for her to hear. "I think the video of you guys leaked."

Asuka blushed at Mari's comment, elbowing her sister in the ribs, she wanted to scream, but things were awkward.

"OK ... Let's get down to business ... We just received a video about the third impact." Misato could see how everyone went rigid, she could see how Shinji closed his eyes of gave a long inspired, she just pointed to the larger screen in her office.

As the video went on, the more everyone's eyes went wide, Shinji felt his heart beating hard in his chest, looking down at his hands as he saw the images of Mark 06 stopping the third impact and then immediately starting it again. "What ... What does that mean?"

"It means you were right all along." Ritsuko spoke coldly as she smoked her cigarette.

Mari nodded fervently, soon tears were rolling down her face, she had been one of the few people who never lost faith in Shinji, having also witnessed the third impact and was struggling to try to ease things for Shinji. "I knew ... I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!"

Asuka looked at her hands and saw them shaking, like many she lost faith in Shinji, believing that only she didn't want to see the truth, but this video was there to prove her wrong, soon the guilt came back strongly.

Even though Shinji had already forgiven her for this, Asuka relived the moments in the red earth, remembering every cruel word she spoke, every slap, every thought she had about Shinji, the guilt came back strongly.

The same was true for Misato, she remembered when Shinji woke up, how the anger for seeing him again came back in her body, how she almost killed him and it was all going to be for nothing, that he really was innocent, feeling the guilt for every thought she had where she convinced herself she was wrong, that she was blinded by her feelings for him, but in the end the truth as always comes out, lucky it wasn't too late.

Misato was looking at Shinji, she saw when he was wide-eyed as he leaned against the wall and began to collapse, running to support him, Misato listened as he spoke. "I ... I ... Am I not guilty?"

Asuka was standing next to Shinji at this moment, she was holding one of his arms, seeing his stunned and shocked face, she could feel what he was thinking, all the times he called himself a monster or a murderer, but at the end of it all, everyone was wrong.

"No Shinji." Misato spoke as she felt tears streaming down her face, she quickly tried to hug him tightly as she spoke excitedly. "You are innocent."

Shinji just closed his eyes, he couldn't believe it, feeling a weight coming off his shoulders, soon his breathing quickened and he was gasping heavily, all the suffering he had gone through, all the sleepless nights, everything he had gone through waiting for this moment.

Finally the truth had come out, Shinji spoke as he looked at the image of Mark 06 standing on the screen, he could see him standing in a cross shape heading towards the gates of Guf, his eyes never left the screen.

"I am Innocent."

"I am Innocent."

"I am Innocent."

"I am Innocent."

"How ... What is it going to be like now?" Asuka asked as she controlled her emotions, but a doubt reigned in her head, what would it be like now? Who was piloting Mark 06?

"I ... I don't know." Misato spoke as she saw that Shinji had already gone through the initial shock, but she also had this question on her mind, she wondered how she should proceed, knowing that Kaji had been the person who found this out.

"Let's keep it a secret for now." Ritsuko spoke as she saw Asuka's look of shock, she wished she could release everything, but they had to be cautious at this point.

"So far WILLE hasn't done anything about it." Ritsuko spoke as she faced everyone in the room.

"WILLE knew?" Mari asked shocked.

"Yes ... The WILLE logo was at the beginning." Misato spoke annoyed, how could WILLE hide something like that? What was their plan?

Shinji was sitting looking at the ground, his hands were still shaking from the revelation, he really was innocent, but he still had a big battle ahead of him, his fight was not over yet.

Closing his eyes, he finally felt a great weight coming off his back, and this relief was invigorating, finally the truth came out, but different from what he expected it would be, something in the back of his mind was not feeling victorious, this was noticed by Asuka.

Soon the two were exchanging glances, both did not say anything, but their eyes clearly showed what they wanted to talk about, both were concerned about this, because this file was not recovered from the NERV archives or any of the SEELE sympathizers but from WILLE itself.

This was something that scared Asuka, scared Misato, scared Mari and most of all had scared Shinji, for how could WILLE have hidden the truth from the world, why had they hidden the truth? What would they gain by putting the blame on Shinji?

This was something that only time would tell, but everyone in that room now knew the truth, and that truth was heavy, heavier than any karma or sin.

Shinji only looked down, he was still digesting that the truth had been revealed, but as always something, as with anything new, there were always people who didn't want things to change.

WILLE HQ

General Yamamoto was sitting in his office, he could see the papers that were his responsibility, but one thing was not right, he could feel that something was wrong and soon a long shiver ran down his back.

"Sir!" Shouted one of his men as he opened the door to his office, Yamamoto could see the anxious look on his face, in his hands was an envelope, the young man spoke as he approached. "Intelligence has reported an information leak."

"Easy boy." Yamamoto spoke as he took the envelope, opening it to see what the information that had been leaked was, soon his eyes widened, he could recognize the serial number of one of the files that was exposed, soon his eyes widened. "Oh my God."

Signaling to be left alone, Yamamoto picked up his phone and dialed a few numbers, the phone called for a few seconds, soon a cold voice answered.

"What is it?" A cold, deep voice echoed, Yamamoto could feel the weight of his owner.

"We have a problem." Yamamoto spoke in an anxious voice, soon a bead of sweat dripped down his forehead. "A piece of information has leaked out, one that could change everything."

"Take care of it, find out who the spy is and kill him." Ordered the cold, mysterious voice.

"Yes sir." Yamamoto shuddered at the voice, he did not want to fail, he had never failed before and it was not going to happen now, soon the line went silent and Yamamoto looked at his desk.

Looking at the document that showed that the NERV security video revealing what had actually happened on the third impact, all this could do was end the plans, this leak could put everything Yamamoto had worked for in jeopardy.

"Shit."
