He stood atop the roof overlooking the city, patiently waiting for him to come. Peter had been waiting all day for this, he'd heard so much about him and word did travel around both cities about one another. Today had been a little too peaceful, especially at a time when there were criminals and supervillains running around.
But no, today was the day, this was the day when the web-slinger was supposed to meet the Dark Knight. Plus, Peter was supposed to be interviewing and photographing the famous Gotham City billionaire for the Daily Bugle. He did not want to enrage Mr. Jameson.
"If you fail to get that photo and that interview, you lazy dimwit, you're a world of trouble." Jameson had said, "Mark my words, Parker! You better get that done; you know how famous he is. He's one of the most famous people ever, I've been waiting almost years to see that picture and I will be meeting him in person!"
Beneath the mask of Spider-Man, Peter was rolling his eyes. Sure, Jameson was a nut, he was his boss and Peter had saved his life several times despite the head of the Daily Bugle continuing to bash Spider-Man despite his heroics.
'One day, Jameson.' Peter thought, 'I'll make you see reason.'
The sun was setting and the stars were looming in the night sky, it would be a full moon tonight and tomorrow's forecast would be cloudy. Luckily, there wouldn't be any rain. It wasn't supposed to rain until next month, it had already rained a few weeks ago.
Peter remembered that he'd gotten the letter this morning, the letter telling him to meet with the writer of it up on the roof. It had been signed by the Batman himself, plus, the Dark Knight had told him he would speak of his secret connection with Bruce Wayne in private.
While he thought about it, Peter already had it figured out that Bruce and Batman were one and the same just as he (Peter) and Spider-Man were the same person. Batman seemed to know Bruce Wayne a bit too well when he mentioned him in that letter, plus, the billionaire and the Dark Knight came from Gotham so the connection was very obvious.
As for how the Bat knew about Peter's address, Peter decided not to worry about it too much...
"Waiting for someone?"
Peter turned around and there he was, wearing his mask and outfit with his cape flapping in the wind. Batman looked very intimidating in that get-up; it was how he earned his reputation as what he was in Gotham.
"Batman..." Peter remarked, "I've been looking forward to this for a while."
The Bat approached the web-slinger and shook his hand. "So have I." He remarked, "I've heard everything about you and how you got your powers. As for how I somewhat know who you are under that mask, let's just say I have my sources, Mr. Parker."
Peter removed his mask to reveal his youthful face. "My identity is supposed to be mysterious to everyone except a trustworthy few." He said, "As for you, it's not that hard to figure out your identity. It's true isn't it, you're Bruce Wayne..."
Batman hung his head, studying Peter curiously. Then he lifted up his mask, revealing the face of the famous Bruce Wayne. "I am." He said, "But I advise you speak very little of that, it's important to keep secrets when they could be used against you any time. With great power comes great responsibility, Mr. Parker."
"My Uncle Ben said that before he died, I've been living by that as best I could."
Just thinking about Bruce's words and his own Uncle Ben made Peter think back to all those years ago, when he first got bit and discovered his powers, when his Uncle Ben Parker had said those words and when Ben died. A tear fell down Peter's face as he thought of him.
"You could say my father Thomas said something like that to me as he was dying." Bruce said as he put the mask back on, "He told me to not be afraid and... I'll never forget that night in the alley. Since then, I've trained as best I could, learned to burry my own emotions."
Peter and Bruce looked at each other with understanding for one another, knowing they had so much in common. They'd both lost loved ones at an early age and that loss had motivated them to become who they were, but their parental figures' deaths would haunt them for the rest of their lives.
Before they could say anything else between them, Peter's eyes widened as his instincts began warning him of nearby danger. He placed a hand up to his head and focused on his Spider-Senses were trying to tell him, he focused hard until he gasped in shock.
"What?" Bruce asked, "Is your Spider-sense going off and are you sensing danger afoot?" He looked around warily, "I can smell danger too, a cold chill is crawling up my spine. It's like we're being watched by an ominous force as it prepares to strike at any time, whoever it is that's watching, we're ready to join forces..."
Peter nodded and got into a combat stance, Bruce drew his Batarang as engine whirring sounded overhead, coming closer and closer. Then, somebody let out an evil laugh and sneered villainously, "Well, well... Batman and Spider-Man, together. How quaint..."
Green Goblin had appeared, wearing his sinister trademark mask and his supervillain outfit while riding his Goblin Glider. The Green Goblin studied Peter and Bruce with sinister intent, holding a pumpkin bomb in his hand. 'Damn.' Peter thought, "Goblin!" His mind flashed back to that dreaded night on the bridge from all those years ago, that night when... she fell.
Batman glared at Goblin coldly. "I've heard many tales about you, Norman." He said, "I know what you've done to the people of this city, what you did to Spider-Man and tried to do."
Goblin cackled, "Ah yes, Batman, the Dark Knight with no fear. I've always wanted to meet you when I had the chance. Tonight is that night, the night I battle the oh-so famous Batman and take him down ALONG WITH SPIDER-MAN HIMSELF! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Peter and Bruce nodded to one another, ready to fight, and were about to make their move when a smoke grenade landed in the vicinity and exploded, spraying smoke everywhere.
Both superheroes shielded their eyes and started coughing, half-affected by the effects of the smoke grenade explosion. Then more evil laughter echoed through the area and a figure stepped out of the smoke, wearing a purple suit with a creepy white face. The smoke cleared and the heroes caught a glimpse of their second foe, the Green Goblin's new partner, it was...
"Good evening, Batman!" The Joker cackled, "I see we already know my partner, Goblin!"
"You have a partnership?!" Peter exclaimed with shock!"
"We met days ago, web-slinger!" Goblin jeered, "Looks like we were ahead of Batman here!"
Bruce held up his Batarang in a combat stance. "Spider-Man and I will make sure whatever your plans are for the city don't succeed, you vile deviants."
Goblin fidgeted with the Pumpkin bomb in his hand, "We'll see about that, Batman! Joker and I are going to have an interesting time taking you down and terrorizing the city." With those words, both heroes and villains charged towards one another and were ready for battle. Peter tackled Goblin and Bruce fought with Joker, it was two against two.
Peter kicked Goblin in the groin and knocked him off his glider, the Pumpkin Bomb which Goblin was holding fell out of his hand and rolled off the edge of a building where it exploded in a storm drain without causing massive damage to the streets of New York.
"Can't take a joke, Batman!" Joker taunted, he tapped a flower on his chest and gas sprayed in Bruce's face, nearly blinding him. The Dark Knight punched the creep in the nose and Joker staggered back, groaning in pain.
Nearby, Peter wrestled with Green Goblin, punching each other and jostling for position until they fell off the edge of the building together while still pummeling one another.
Joker brought out a hammer and whacked Bruce so hard, it caused him to stumble over the building's edge towards the streets of New York. Joker laughed and jumped off the roof after Bruce. Spider Man punched Goblin and flicked a web, creating a web-line from which he swung upon without falling into the street even as Goblin grabbed Peter's leg.
Bruce whipped out a grappling gun and fired off a grappling line, the line hooked onto a building's roof and the Dark Knight swung from it before shooting out more grappling lines and joined Peter in swinging through the city while the battle continued.
"AH HA HA HA HA! Look who can fly now, Batman?!" Joker taunted, when Peter and Bruce looked at the crazy criminal, the Joker was flying with rocket boots. Joker gave the two heroes the middle finger and proceeded to whip out a gun, laughing like the madman he already was and always had been for quite some time.
Peter flicked his wrist and shot a spray of webbing in Joker's face, causing him to fly around blindly while trying to aim at his two enemies. Peter kicked Goblin in the face repeatedly and the green maniac cried out as he finally lost his grip on his nemesis' leg.
In a matter of seconds, both Joker and Goblin had crashed into the streets of New York below and civilians shrieked before running for cover. Peter landed down in the area, followed by Bruce. They had to take care of this fight and send the two villains packing.
Goblin and Joker looked at each other, smirking deviously and knowing they weren't done yet. Spider-Man and Batman stood side by side, facing down the two villains as the villains faced them down. Then they ran at each other and continued to go to town on one another again almost differently, it was now Spider Man vs Joker and Batman vs Green Goblin.
Peter ducked to dodge a series of punches from Joker and kicked him in the gut, taking the villain off balance. He punched Joker in the jaw and then slung a web in his face, before kicking him hard enough to send Batman's nemesis crashing into a lamp post.
Bruce pummeled Green Goblin, overpowering him wildly and twisted his arm. He punched and punched until Goblin's face seemed bruised. Then he bonked him on the head and removed the mask, revealing the demented face of Norman Osborn.
"Fine, you beat me again..." Norman growled.
Both villains admitted defeat (for now) and fled before the police could arrive on the scene. After signing autographs for enthusiastic fans who'd been there to see the fight, Peter and Bruce headed off to somewhere private to unmask and become themselves. "I gotta snap a photo for the Bugle." Peter said, remembering his assignment, "Is that ok?"
"Its fine..." Bruce replied, "I also have an interview with the Bugle apparently."
Peter grabbed his camera from his bag and turned it on, he snapped a photograph of Bruce Wayne smiling in a decent business suit, then the two photographed themselves together. With all of that settled, Peter smiled and shook hands with Bruce again.
Tonight would be a memorable one, the day Spider-Man met Batman and when Peter Parker got a photograph with the famous Bruce Wayne. A new friendship had just begun...
The End
