Disclaimer: I don't own Stargate Atlantis - this is just merely a way of releasing my imagination.
Author's Note: Yep, another one of these. Thanks to SpecialAgentJim who gave me some more ideas. Funny how you can overlook the obvious…hope you enjoy.
Miracles
It was amazing how quickly life had changed. It was amazing still further how quickly he had adjusted to the recent change. Or perhaps it was amazing just by the fact that he knew what it took to save a life teetering on the edge of death. And to think, he'd nearly given up all hope of leaving his homeland - something he still remembered with fondness. He missed it, but he wouldn't trade where he was now, for anything in the world. Not even the chance to go back and visit his mother.
One thing he'd never have to worry about was boredom. No such thing was heard of, and often times he found himself wishing for the usual. Not that he didn't welcome the paranormal, just when it seemed that the paranormal was becoming more normal than the usual - he'd often have that feeling. And yet he'd beaten the statistics time and again, sheer numbers that meant squat when in another galaxy where anything could happen - even miracles. He'd learned more in this alien universe than he had in med school, and he'd found more cures than he could have hoped for. Cures he'd pulled out of a hat, when tension ran thick and blood pressure increased; he'd somehow managed to acquire them. It wasn't his skills or his talents - though those often enough were needed - it was the bloody miracles some gracious being had given him. He usually didn't think about them, since they were wrought with suffering at other's expense; but they were highly beneficial and he was immensely thankful for them since it allowed him to save the lives of his friends.
Carson stood as the event horizon engaged, medical bag in one hand, a smile tugging at his lips. The Stargate was more than just an object of imminent death - it was a gateway to saving lives he otherwise had no access to. And that he could accept.
