Let Me In
Upperton Apartment
"Shego?"
Kim's eyes widened in surprise and she stumbled backwards.
"In the flesh, Cupcake. Miss me already?"
Shego's face had been blank when she opened the door, but now it was glaring at her. Why was Shego glaring at her?
Kim stepped back into a fighting pose, anticipating Shego's next move. She hadn't seen the other woman in weeks, and this was the last place she expected to find the villain.
"What are you doing here? How did you find out about it?" Kim asked.
"So many questions, Cupcake. Too bad it's none of your business. It's 3 AM, now get lost," Shego replied. She smirked defiantly and leaned against the doorframe.
Finally, over her shock, Kim composed herself and stepped closer to the door, her body naturally taking on a defensive stance.
Kim looked more closely at Shego. The dark-haired woman stood just inside the doorway, shielding Kim from viewing the rest of the apartment. Her hair was messy, like she had just woken up but she was fully dressed. Kim noticed that Shego wasn't in her customary catsuit. The other woman wore tight black pants, heeled boots, and a green shirt underneath…was that the latest leather jacket release from Club Banana?
"And what are you wearing?" Kim questioned, a blush dusting her cheeks.
"Believe it or not I don't just walk around in a catsuit all the time," Shego said. "Besides, how is what I'm doing here any of your business, hmm? Are you stalking me now, Cupcake? You're trespassing and I can be anywhere I want to be."
"You're one to talk about trespassing. This is where my…where…well, you shouldn't be here either!" Kim said.
Shego's jaw clenched. She moved closer to Kim out in the hallway.
"You're a wanted criminal; you can't just be here, especially here." Kim stared the taller woman down, no longer scared. Shego shouldn't be at this apartment that had cost Kim so much to find.
Shego raised her eyebrows, mouth open in disbelief and then just as quickly schooled her face back to a blank expression. She huffed out a laugh then shook her head.
"I seem to remember receiving a pardon for my crimes thanks to helping you," Shego reminded her.
"Right, and I'm supposed to believe that you've been a law-abiding-citizen since graduation?"
"I don't particularly care what you believe. Now scram." Shego said.
The two women stood stock still, neither willing to budge. Finally, Shego held out her hands, palm up, in a gesture of peace.
"Look Princess, just forget about all of this, okay, and nobody has to get hurt. Go back to your perfect life with your perfect family, and your perfect imbecile boyfriend."
"I'm not going anywhere until I get inside this apartment and find what I'm looking for. Seriously, Shego— I don't know what you and Drakken are up to but after all the stuff you've put me through, don't you think you owe me some answers?" Kim asked.
Kim kept her stance firm and craned her head a bit to get a better view into the little bit of apartment that she could see behind Shego.
"I don't owe anyone anything, least of all you!" Shego's voice was a sharp contrast to her previous nonchalance and dismissal. No longer focused on the apartment in front of her, Kim noticed the way Shego's eyes burned with intensity as they met her own.
"Why are you here?" Kim demanded fiercely. She had gone too far to let anything stop her from finding the truth. I'm getting some answers, dammit. How could Shego have known…? Would she and Drakken go that far? Though last time… Her jaw ticked with the memory of the synthdrones and the betrayal she had felt.
Fighting with Shego was always way more personal than with anyone else.
But then, she and Shego had almost gotten along at the battle during graduation when they had saved the world together with Ron and Drakken, and the whole sharks with lasers thing coupled with whatever this was made her blood boil. She thought Shego had changed, but it appeared the other woman was as evil as ever.
"It's my place, now leave!" Shego screamed at her and the dark-haired woman's hands lit up with green plasma.
Kim barely had a second to take that in before Shego growled and then darted out at her, swinging her plasma charged hands at Kim's head.
Kim ducked, but Shego had already kicked her leg out, slamming Kim back into the opposite wall. The plaster cracked with the force of the hit, sending bits of dust and sheetrock down on her.
Kim scrambled up, just in time to dodge another hit. She darted back just as Shego jumped forward and collided with the teen hero, her forearm crushing the other girl's throat.
Tensed in anticipation, Kim just managed to fend off Shego's attack, the green woman's plasma inches away from her face and their wrists jammed together in contest. The impact lasted less than a second before a warmth tingled through them both, originating from the point of contact.
Glancing down, Kim saw her white bracelet had ridden up her arm and the name was now pressed against Shego.
The two women hastily jumped apart, and seeing her chance, Kim charged at the door. As she passed the threshold of the apartment, still warm hands latched onto her arm and jerked, sending both the green skinned woman and the teen hero crashing into a green and black countertop.
Vases, candles, and various kitchen appliances fell down onto them both and crashed down to the floor with several loud clangs.
Ouch, that had hurt.
Kim barely had time to take in her surroundings before Shego attempted to grapple her. Kim swatted Shego's glowing hands away, just managing to avoid getting burned. She hadn't worn her hero suit tonight, not thinking she would need it here of all places.
The older woman threw an energy ball at Kim, and teen hero dodged in time to see the flaming ball scorch a large piece of artwork hanging on the wall behind her.
Kim kicked out at Shego, landing a blow to her stomach and sending the other woman sprawling back into the living room. She rushed after the dark-haired woman, noticing a lamp on a side table and yanked it from the wall.
Just as Shego lit her hands back up and made to lunge at her, Kim threw the lamp at her head. Shego almost managed to dodge the flying object, but was clipped in the ear.
"Hey, that lamp was expensive!" Shego yelled. She touched her hand to her ear and it came away red. "And I'm bleeding!"
"Yeah right, you probably stole it," Kim argued back.
Shego lunged at her, but Kim was ready for the attack and jumped out of the way just in time to avoid her.
The two women circled each other in the living room of the lavish apartment, neither one daring to make the next move.
"I didn't have to steal it; I make great money doing villain contract work," Shego sneered back at Kim.
"Oh, so you don't have to steal, you just do it for fun? And what was with Drakken's latest laser plot? I thought you were reformed. Sounds like someone's still got issues."
"What's the point of being bad if you can't have a little fun with it? Consider me reformed-ish" Shego replied. Her hands blazed brighter with plasma and she winked at Kim.
"Psh, yeah right," Kim scoffed at her.
"Look, Drakken's plots never achieve anything, so what's the harm in making some money and tagging along for the ride? Not that you'd know anything about having fun, Little Miss Uptight," Shego replied.
Kim stared back at her fiercely. She wasn't uptight; she was stressed. She hadn't gone through everything – through breaking up with Ron and messing things up with her friends and family – just to be held back by Shego.
"Enough of this, where is she?" Kim demanded.
"I don't think I know who you're talking about Kimmie, did you lose your pretty princess of a sidekick?" Shego smirked dangerously, her body moving closer to where Kim stood.
"What is this, another sick plot of Drakken's to screw with my head?" Kim asked.
"You know, not everything is about you. Stuck up, much?" Shego taunted her.
"It obviously is about me, since you're in this apartment. Which is so over the top. Green and black much?" Kim taunted back at Shego, glancing around the room with her hands raised as if to prove her point.
"It is a nice place. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were enjoying this, Cupcake." Shego smirked at her.
"Where is Sheyenne?"
Shego's brows drew down in anger, her face changing to a scowl.
"You still don't get it, Princess. Are you really that stupid? Sheyenne Gomez. Shego. It's me. I'm your soulmate," Shego admitted.
"What? You? But you can't be…" Kim's voice trailed off. Shego was her soulmate?
"Oh, but I am. I got your sad little message and I'm not interested, so leave. You can just forget about whatever simpering little soulmate you thought up in your head and move on!" Shego yelled.
Shego's voice rose to a fever pitch as she moved towards Kim with both of the hands blazing green. The redhead slowly backed away, hitting the back wall of the living room. There were barely any sounds to hush Shego's voice, the open window facing the quiet street far below.
"Sheyenne Gomez is DEAD. She died a long time ago, back when my skin turned green, I got powers, and turned into a freak!" Shego practically spit the last word out.
Kim reeled with Shego's admission. Shego was her soulmate. Sheyenne Gomez. Shego. How had she not seen this? It made sense—it had practically been right in front of her face the whole time.
"But—"
"What the hell is going on?" A booming voice in the hallway interrupted Kim.
"Great, now security shows up," Shego whined.
The two of them looked over to the door, where the sound of heavy footsteps could be heard running towards them from the end of the hall.
Two policemen barreled through the door, with more rushing behind them.
"Or maybe not security. So long Kimmie," Shego said, running towards the open window and clambering outside.
Kim hurried to the window and looked out, but saw no trace of the other woman. They were on the 13th floor; how did she do that?
"Kim? Kim Possible, is that you?" One of the officers asked. Kim studied his sandy brown hair, sunglasses, and large build, instantly recognizing him as Officer Hobble.
She signed in relief as she acknowledged the policeman. He told her how he and his men had been at a nearby coffee place when they gotten the call to head to the apartment. The station had gotten several noise complaints from residents and one of the calls had alleged domestic violence, with the caller hearing a woman screaming and items being broken.
Kim told him how she had ended up here after following up on a lead concerning a string of diamond thefts — which was something that Wade actually was working on. She shared his disappointment that the perp had gotten away, promising to send him all the information she had on the diamond robberies.
It wasn't exactly the truth, but then again, she was technically trespassing in Shego's home. The other woman had fled, leaving a mostly empty apartment behind. The design was composed of minimal green and black, with sleek furniture, and almost no personal touches.
The apartment felt like more of a basecamp or a hideout than a home.
Claiming she had to use the bathroom, Kim snuck away to investigate Shego's bedroom while the officers stood in the living room and made their report. The only thing that Kim had managed to find was Shego's catsuit, slung out on her bed next to a small, empty tote bag. It looked like Kim had interrupted Shego at just the wrong time.
Kim hastily stuffed the catsuit in the bag and clutched in on her shoulder. Better not to let it fall into the hand of the Middleton police, just to be safe.
"All done Officer Hobble," Kim said, smiling at the man and his fellow officers. They appeared to be finished with their photos and report, and were heading out.
"Thanks for your help, Kim, this report and the clues here could bring us a step closer to catching this perp," he thanked her.
"Uh, no problem," Kim said. Her face turned bright red and she nervously rubbed the heated back of her neck.
Lying to cops was not something she wanted to make a habit of doing.
"There's just one more thing, though. Would you mind giving me a ride home?" Kim asked sheepishly.
