Hi lovebugs, so small life update, I got sick, then felt better just in time for my birthday so I was dealing with that but I didn't forget about you guys. So I am going to say enjoy lovebugs but also there is a surprise in one of my finished stories. Consider it a small Christmas gift. ;)
"How is my favorite lawyer doing?" Sam greeted Artie as he waltzed into his office with a bag full of Artie's favorite food from the bar in his hand and a big cheesy grin on his face. Artie looked up from his mound of paperwork and looked at Sam with suspicion.
"Sam I can't keep on filling out restraining orders on random women you like to sleep with however, I will take the food in your hand because I have yet to have a decent meal," Artie answered as he reached for the bag but Sam pulled it back and wagged his finger.
"Nope, this meal is for you once you help me with Mercedes." Sam insisted as he sat down.
"Mercedes? What do you mean?"
"I want to go out with her."
"Hell no, Sam she isn't a new booty call or conquest for you, Mercedes is a good person, she is smart, amazing, caring, and selfless, and I refuse to deal with a heartbroken Mercedes because you decided to be an asshole."
"While I admire the protection, Artie it isn't like that I think we have a connection and we agreed to have a date with each other tomorrow and I need to figure out what to do. I was going to take her to dinner but that seems too basic."
Artie sighed, "Sam, do you promise that this isn't some bullshit game, and you aren't going to treat one of my closest friends like shit in the end."
"Damn Artie have some faith in me, I thought I was your best friend."
"You are but Mercedes has always been there for me, probably in moments when I didn't deserve it and don't want to see her hurt."
"Fine, I promise now can you help me or not?" Sam huffed.
"Don't take her to dinner, she isn't a fan of those she finds them to cliche, one of her favorite things to do during the holidays is to go ice skating, and then to grab hot coco, so do that and put your own flare to it. Now can I please have my food?" Artie explained.
"Oh, what would I do without you, here's your food and I promise I won't be an asshole," Sam said. He placed the food on the desk and headed out of the office and Artie rolled his eyes.
"You better not Evans," He whispered under his breath.
"So what kind of date did he schedule for you both?" Quinn asked she was in Mercedes's bedroom trying to help her get dressed and she could tell Mercedes was trying her best to not freak out and decided to stand him up.
"He said it is a surprise but to wear pants, which I mean helps to an extent but Q what am I going to wear maybe I should just cancel," Mercedes spoke as she reached for her phone.
Quinn grabbed her phone and placed it down as she gently held Mercedes's wrist, "He is not your asshole of an ex from college, ok he isn't going to hurt you, so stop trying to make something end before it even starts. You are worthy to go out with him, no matter how much you try to tell yourself otherwise." Quinn insisted. Mercedes took a deep breath and let out a small smile.
"You're always so right."
"I know, now go pick out an outfit so you can be ready for when he gets here," Quinn replied. Mercedes headed back to her closet and looked around before her eyes landed on the perfect pairing. She grabbed the items and headed back to her room where Quinn was. Quinn looked up from her phone and laid her eyes on the outfit.
"That's perfect, he isn't going to know what to do with you when he sees." Quinn complimented.
Sam stood out front with his truck dressed in a charcoal grey turtleneck sweater, a grey coat, and a pair of jeans as he waited for Mercedes. He was slightly nervous and all he could hope for was that she really enjoyed the night and that she would want to to keep on seeing him. After a few more moments he looked towards the door and there she was. Mercedes was dressed in pair of stretchy black leather jeans, an oversized silk white blouse, her hair was down in curls and she paired her outfit with silver earrings. She looked stunning in Sam's eyes.
"Damn," He said aloud.
"Mercedes let out a small giggle, "You don't look too bad yourself Sam."
"Thanks for agreeing to come out with me.
"No problem so are you ready to go?"
"Yep," Sam went over and opened the door for her and once she was safely placed in the car he shut the door behind her and headed out into the truck himself. They drove for a short while making sure to keep up with nice conversation before Sam pulled into the parking lot of the skating rink. There were a few families, elderly couples, and teenagers skating about the large rink, and Mercedes instantly shifted her mood upwards.
"I take it that you like skating rinks," Sam began as he noticed her bright smile.
"I love them how did you know?" Mercedes answered.
"Lucky guess," Sam replied smoothly. He exited the truck and went and helped out Mercedes proving chivalry was in fact not dead. They headed to the counter to go and pay for their skates. Then they headed on the ice, and to Mercedes's surprise, Sam was actually ok at this, he only fell a few times, but she helped him up each time, as they started to skate they started to get to know each other.
"So what is your favorite thing to do in your pass time?" Mercedes questioned.
"Kissing you," Sam replied cheekily.
"Sam,"
"I'm joking well not really, no I really love to dry, I have actually been shopping a comic of mine around to different companies in the hopes that they'll take it and publish it. What about you?"
"I like to sing, people use to tell me I should be a professional but I never saw the true appeal to it."
"Well, what made you want to become a lawyer."
"To be honest, I always loved the idea of helping those in need, former teachers will tell you I would be the first to try and help no matter how big or small the task was."
"Pretty admirable of you."
"Thank you, so what about you what made you find a passion for drawing?" Mercedes asked.
"Well, I'm dyslexic so drawing became a form of escape for me, especially through middle and high school, and along the way, I joined sports too, but it was something about drawing that really kept me going."
"That's wonderful, I'd love to see one of your drawings."
"I think I can make it that happen. Hey, listen we have one more place to stop at so how about we put the skates away and the head over there."
"Lead the way."
After they returned their skates to the counter, they hopped back in Sam's truck and he drove them to this small hole in the wall. Mercedes didn't know where they were but she trusted Sam's opinion and his judgment oddly enough.
"Sam, what is this place?" She asked as she read the sign, "Betty's Bowl"? What does that mean?"
"You'll see when we go inside." Sam smiled as he opened the door for her. When Mercedes's walked in her nose was assaulted by the sweet smell of hot chocolate, cinnamon, and more. As she looked around noticed it was Christmas themed with numerous decorations and small tables.
"Welcome to Betty's Bowl where you don't get a cup but you get a whole bowl." A waitress said as they walked to the counter.
"Sam this place is so pretty."
"I figured you would like it."
"I love it,"
"Alright let's order." After they both ordered they sat at a table that was close to the window and drank their hot coca.
"Who prefers hot chocolate but without the marshmallows?" Sam asked.
Mercedes sighed, "MArshmallows are so overrated, I prefer extra whipped cream, candy canes, and chocolate chips with a dash of cinnamon." She stated proudly as she took a drink and didn't notice the small amount of cream on her lip. Sam leaned over and swiped the whipped cream from her lip with his finger and placed it in his mouth.
"Yummy, I am really glad, you decided to come out with me tonight Merce."
"I'm glad I did too, I have enjoyed myself, Sam."
Sam lifted his bowl in the air, "Cheers to us."
"Cheers to us," Mercedes agreed as they clanked bowls together.
