Tanya vs. the Empire
Disclaimer: Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There and Saga of Tanya the Evil belong to their respective owners. Rated M for likely violent elements and extreme bouts of profanity within the story.
Notes: I'm sorry for the long hiatus. A lot of things just happened. What you see here is just half or a third of the new chapter that I was making. I decided to post this somewhat unfinished work in order signify my interest in continuing the story. Hopefully I'll update the full work very soon. Again sorry for my long inactivity on this story.
Chapter 4: Fateful Encounters Part 2
You've met something beyond your capabilities, Tanya. Do you think you'll live long enough to dispatch this being of pure power? The disembodied voice of Being X, coming from the Flame Dragon, mocked Tanya, while it snarled at her with hate. Before she could respond, Visha cut in a warning.
"Major! Bank hard right!"
On impulse, Tanya did exactly what Visha told her. This was immediately followed by a hail of spell-enhanced bullets that peppered the dragon. The beast roared, whether in pain or fury, as it stopped in its tracks seemingly hovering in place, wings flapping, as it took in the full brunt of the exploding projectiles from Tanya's men. Tanya did not stop but got to look back at what her men did to the dragon, which made her relax a bit.
If not depending on yourself, you let all those that follow you do your bidding. The dragon spoke and Tanya heard. Residual smoke from the mages' attacks was obscuring the visual confirmation on the monster but Tanya had a bad feeling. "In this case to insure your preservation. Let us see if we can sever such dependence."
The dragon was on the move again and revealed it was encased in some translucent bubble that apparently protected it from the assaults and was rushing onward towards one of the hovering mages. The flying mage in particular was too shocked to react when the huge winged beast clamped its jaws on him and ending his life rather horribly.
"Romano!"
The dragon took notice of the man who called out and rushed to him next and killed him in similar fashion. Soon after it was chaos as it continued massacring Tanya's men one by one.
"Damn! It's picking us off!" one of them said, shooting before flying away from the winged disaster.
"Someone help-uhh-AHHH!" Another mage falls victim.
"Why doesn't our spell bullets doing anything to it!"
"It seems to have some kind of protective shell!"
"Everybody, calmed down!" Visha called out. "Try to get away from the thing! Those free, give assistance to those in need of it!"
She suddenly felt an intense heat sear over over her as she saw a cone of flame fan over the air and engulf three hapless mages who screamed horribly before their burning corpses plummet down towards the ground. The sight paralyzed Visha in place, those death throes ominously ringing in her ears. Before she knew it, the dragon was upon her, ready to take her down. Shock finally set in as the menacing monster loomed over her. She could only gasp in fear, and floated in place, as she knew she was only a heartbeat away to her demise. But that did not happen.
A powerful shot penetrated the dragon's defenses and hit it squarely on the head with such force that it genuinely roared in pain. Somehow the attack dispelled the magical protection the creature had entirely and forced it to focus on the annoying source of the attack. It was Tanya. She was glowing or rather was visibly bristling with magical energy, a sign she was getting serious.
So, you finally turn to powerful prayers to deal with me, Tanya. Your self-denial of such blessings only undermine your foolish pride and thus exposes your weakness and dependence on them. It's voice echoed in Tanya's head. Only she could hear it and she hated it.
"Visha. Take everyone and regroup. I'm going to lead this thing away from all of you."
"No Major! You can't. You're no match against that thing alone!"
"That's an order, adjutant!" She fired a couple more of empowered shots that got the dragon's full attention on her. Tanya did not wait if Visha complied, or if the dragon was going to rush her, though she was confident it would, after giving it worth her attention, as she zoomed fast and away from the scene.
"Damn! If we won't deal with this thing it's going to be a threat to the army! Hope Visha followed my or..."
Still acting defiantly? Even if knowing the inevitability of your situation, Tanya?
She looked back to confirm it was right behind her.
Good. It's following me. "Will you pester me even on this new world? You sure have a lot of time on your hands!" she retorted.
You really think this is all about you? You're merely a minute part now on the series of events that just opened themselves up. Soon we'll attain that what has presented itself.
"What are you talking about?" Tanya noticed something off about Being X, something in his speech. Did he just say 'we'll' as in plural? And what is he really up to here in this world.
Perhaps I've spoken too much already. Let us end this now, Tanya.
Being X, as the dragon, was gaining speed and Tanya noticed this with consternation. However, she just needed to speed up herself, and with renewed effort placed her orb, going for overdrive, she widens the gap with the baleful creature as she soared higher into the sky.
"He's really out to get me, this time. Well, if that's how you want it, fine!"
Tanya turns around, while maintaining her flight with her back turned. She takes aim with her rifle and was about to chant a powerful spell. Unfortunately to her horror the dragon was matching her speed and gaining. The dragon's jaws were almost upon her! Her survival instinct exploded as she made a last ditch effort to dodge the massive thing barreling towards her. She makes it barely.
"AHHHHHHH!"
Tanya's world was spinning as she was thrown out of her flight as she got buffeted by one of the dragon's massive wings, tossing her and tumbling in midair for a considerable distance from her attacker. Eventually, without control, she began spiraling down towards the ground.
This is it, she thought to herself as she spun out of control. She was going to die, horribly and unceremoniously. If the dragon did not get her first the ground would be her ultimate end. That is unless she regain control of her flight and bearing. But at the moment, she could barely do anything save trying not to pass out from her spiral decent. She could make out the dragon, when her orientation allowed her. It seemed intent in making sure it's curtains for her as it followed her down.
Come on! Come on! Righten yourself, Tanya!
With every ounce of her sheer will, she brought herself to stop her spin and make her face Being X while her back was to the upcoming ground. There was very little time left, as she took a deep breath, calming herself. Tanya hated what she had to do, but it was her only chance.
"O Lord! There are times we may think that we do not have the strength to defeat the enemy as he attacks us in our daily lives."
The flame dragon seems to realized what Tanya was trying to do as it quicken its descent.
I will not allow you!
"Please restore our courage and faith in You."
Magical glyphs and patterns appear ten-fold before the barrel of Tanya's rifle as she tries her best in keeping her aim steady at her fast, onrushing opponent. Also, she was now mere seconds away in hitting the ground.
"Help us to be confident both in ourselves as well...in You, O Lord!"
The flame dragon opened up its wicked maw as it was close enough to snap at her.
Tanya's eyes went wide with horror, her heart racing to its limits as her life seem to flash before her eyes. From when she was still man; as a child in her original world, gaining awareness for the first time when he was born. Fast forward to his growth and development, his progression through life, the successes, the failures. Until he reached the point of what he considered success in life – a well paid job with lots of securities. It was worth the patience and hard work. He could enjoy the fruits of his labor to the fullest. But then that incident came. He, it, Being X took it all away and brought him here to this shitty world, reborn as a little girl. But now it seems he is about meet a second end, a permanent one.
No! "For we know we will mount up like eagles and sore high with You on Thy throne!"
A high powered energy blast shot fort, hitting the dragon squarely in the face while most of the magical discharge went through the creature's open mouth and flowed through its throat and into its insides. The thing quickly bloated as the destructive energies threatened to break the creature apart, which it did. Quick succession of rays burst fort one after the other until a huge powerful explosion seemingly consumes the entire dragon. But it wasn't quite so as its fiery, torn remains continued to follow Tanya towards the ground.
This is it! This is the end!
To those who witnessed it, Tanya appears to be engulfed by the dragon's burning corpse. Which then crashes to the ground and burst into a spectacular fiery explosion that would probably be seen from miles around.
"Major!"
Visha cried out in horror as tears threatened to burst out of her eyes at the spectacle. The surviving members of were also in disbelief, seeing the likeliness that their commander has met her ultimate end.
"Look! I see something!" said one of the aerial mages.
"It's it the Major?" asked another.
"No! It's someone else...They're carrying someone." A third squinted his eyes to get a closer look.
Indeed, someone emerged from the fiery inferno that was the Flame Dragon, and they were in midair and were going for a quick descent for the ground while carrying someone in their arms.
"Major!" Visha recognized Tanya, seemingly unconscious and being cradled by an unknown savior. When they got to the ground, amazingly landing from such a distance and height not normal for anyone unless they are a mage, Visha got a better look of the one bearing of her CO.
She was little more a young teen, a bit older than Tanya, with long dark hair and a large black bow tied at the back of her head. The dress she wore could only be described as gothic lolita except that her skirt was quite too short for comfort. Another thing of great note about her was the thing slung on her back. A large bladed halberd, or pole axe. Too massive for someone of her stature to be bearing.
"Well now. Looks like you're lucky I came after the Flame Dragon. Otherwise I would not have saved you in time." Said Rory, with a smile, to a semi-conscious Tanya who groaned in her arms. The diminutive blonde then finally succumbed into unconsciousness. "Still I'm quite amazed you actually defeated the Flame Dragon. All by yourself. Fascinating." She now notices the other flying men training their weapons at her and issuing warnings, of wanting her to let go of their fellow comrade whom she bore in her arms. "I definitely like to know more about you."
