Last Chapter…
"You needed assistance!" He roared and nodded. "Misty! I need you to look into Kilowattrel! He suffered some kind of attack; I'm not sure what it is!"
"I'll look after it! Allow me to heal the remainder of your Pokémon, Ash! You're about to get into a wild battle!" Ash nodded and tagged out, leaving Misty to heal his Pokémon. Misty provided Ash the greatest run-down of Scream Tail's moveset she could while Scream Tail faced four distinct Pokémon at the same time.
"Look, I'll do my best to explain, its move set is—" As Ash stated, she was cut off. "I know Psyshock is one, so skip that and tell me the others." Misty watched as a massive explosion generated by Scream Tail blew Lillie's Ninetales aside. Misty elaborated. "You've undoubtedly heard of Calm Mind, haven't you?" Ash gave a blink. "Of course!" says one.
"That's one of them; the other two are..." She stated. Ash gazed at her. She spoke quickly. "Here's the thing: Scream Tail has one major offensive move and one important defensive move, moves you'd never know about."
Ash made an educated guess. "I assume the one where a ball of Hyper appears over its mouth is its attacking move?" Misty gave a nod. "The move is called Hyper Beam!" Ash worriedly motioned to Kilowattrel and whispered. "If this isn't dominance, we're in big trouble. What is the alternate move?"
Misty described everything as well as she could. "The other move is Protect!"
Then there was an explosion that was too close. Misty and Ash were both thrown flying in opposite directions. Misty did not stand up. Ash backed up and looked up to meet Scream Tail's gaze. He was shocked to see Misty on the ground. He narrowed his eyes, knowing that even with their injuries, he needed to focus on the mission at hand: stopping Scream Tail before more people became like Misty. Though he was well aware of his purpose, he also realised that he couldn't leave Misty behind without assistance.
He indicated for Kilowattrel and Typhlosion to remain in the lead, then returned Charizard and Zoroark, knowing that if the worst happened, he'd need them to cover for an escape. He tapped his earpiece a couple times, matching a frequency he knew would connect him to Cynthia.
"Mayday, Mayday, Mayday. This is not a drill, Red is requesting quick aid. Please come to my location as soon as possible for assistance and evacuation." Then another adjacent explosion launched him into the air. When he landed, he pushed himself up and felt his earpiece, or what was remained of it. The fragments of his earpiece fell to the ground. He murmured something to the effect of "Bloody inconvenient if you ask me..."
He yelled and pointed at Scream Tail. "Kilowattrel, use Dual Wingbeat as hard as you can on the ground! Make a foray into the sand!"
Kilowattrel swiped its tail downward, knocking Scream Tail off balance. Ash waved his arm downward. "Flamethrower, Typhlosion!" The fire trail threw up a massive amount of sand, but Scream Tail didn't lose a beat. It regained its footing and fired a Hyper Beam, which connected with Flamethrower in the centre of the field. After a brief while, the two blasts cancelled each other out, allowing a sandstorm to spread through the air.
Scream Tail brushed away the vast amount of sand with its tail and stood erect, revealing no opponent in front of it. "Jigglyyy!?" It screamed in frightened astonishment.
"Now! Make use of Close Combat and Dual Wingbeat! Take your time!" Ash gave the order. Hovering behind Scream Tail for only a few seconds, Scream Tail was assailed from both sides as the blinding pain took over. Ash was keeping a close eye on Scream Tail, hoping for it to regain its focus. He was no fool; he was well aware that Scream Tail would not take the harm lightly.
Ash yelled as he noticed Scream Tail's tail glow. "Stop right now!" Both of his Pokémon reacted to his call by leaping backwards, escaping capture by the Pokémon's tail. Ash yelled. "Now! Thunderbolt into a Flamethrower with a Combination Strike! At all costs, disrupt Aegis Defense!"
"TYPHLOOOSION!"
"KILOOOWATTREL!"
The two assaults, primed by their trainer's words, were launched. When the spinning ray of fire and electricity connected with Scream Tail's tail, it let out a cry. After a brief pause, it let out another, its defences crumbling.
Misty had been right. While his thoughts were on his brown-haired ally, he looked back to see her still lying on the ground in obvious distress. But then he noticed a helicopter or two approaching them in the distance. In the chopper, Ash could see a humanoid with a profusion of blonde hair cascading behind them. Then he noticed something brightly flashing through the air and sailing straight at him. He recognised it. Ash screamed.
"Kilowattrel! You already know what to do!"
"Kilo watt!" exclaimed. Before dashing towards the glowing thing, his partner yelled out. His partner swung its tail around in a circle pattern and whacked the object to Ash through the air just as it was about to strike the ground. Ash jumped up and grabbed the dark blue spherical known as a ultra ball. He felt his foot strike the soft sand again and flung it, knowing precisely where Scream Tail was. Scream Tail, who was still lying on the ground in the midst of the smoke and sand, didn't have time to move. The ball made contact and sucked it in.
Ash dashed into the haze, determined not to lose sight of Scream Tail. If this ultra ball failed, he'd have to wait for another; catching it in a conventional pokeball was, to put it mildly, dangerous. For a little while, the ball swayed back and forth. One moment led to another, and then another, and then another.
Kilowattrel and Typhlosion remained by Ash's side, waiting for commands if they were required. The ball continued to sway, and the tension in the region increased. Finally, it occurred.
The ball snapped, and stars emerged from it. Ash collapsed in relief; it was finally over.
Ash slowly opened his eyes to find himself on an island. The island was grassy and hilly in places. He turned around and saw sweeping grasslands. He observed a stream of water when he looked one direction. He decided to try to climb to the top of the hill and began sprinting to the top to figure out where the hell he was. When he reached the top, he closed his eyes and wiped the small quantity of sweat that had gathered on his brow. When he blinked, he noticed that everything had changed.
It had become a big desert. There were pyramids in the distance, but no water or grass could be seen. When he looked down, he noticed that the grass beneath his feet had similarly turned soft sand. He smirked. What was the situation?
"Jigglyyy…" Ash spun around to see Scream Tail standing peacefully, its dazzling yellow eyes shining but its face expressionless. Ash inquired. "Can you tell me what I'm doing here?" Scream Tail remained strangely silent. Ash tried once again. "Do you have a motive for bringing me here?" Scream Tail did respond this time, with a simple nod. Ash grimaced, the lack of reactions bothering him.
He was about to ask another query when his entire universe altered. Himself saw that just he and Scream Tail appeared to be present at the time. The countryside flashed repeatedly until it came to a rest at a picture of what appeared to be a regal throne of some kind. The walls were made of gold, and the architecture was breathtaking. He just observed a Pokémon sitting atop a massive amount of gold at that point. Strangely, given the rest of the layout, it was not a chair.
He got closer and noticed it was a Ninetales, stuck in time like the rest of the Scream Tail—
Ash's line of thinking came to a standstill there. He fixed his gaze on the Pokémon. There were a lot of Pokémon there, all of which appeared to be the same: Scream Tail. They were all over the Ninetales, apparently gaining acclaim from the fox. There were at least ten of them in the room, but it was unclear why there were so many! They were all supposed to have vanished, swept away by the horrors of the territorial dispute—
Ash paled and came to a halt for the second time in a short period of time. This was a flashback to the final moments before the Scream Tail species became extinct, or more precisely, appeared to be extinct in the eyes of the public, and was all but lost in time. He was struck by Scream Tail's sorrowful, distant expression.
Scream Tail moved cautiously over to a Scream Tail that was standing exactly next to the Ninetales. It was standing strong, as if it were the pack leader of all the Scream Tail. Ash spotted Scream Tail looking at this one with piqued interest.
"Do you know who Scream Tail is?" He inquired of the fairy/psychic-Pokémon. Scream Tail nodded slowly, and Ash knew exactly what he meant. He said quietly. "Wasn't that you?..." Scream Tail paused but shook its head, indicating no.
'Perhaps this Scream Tail knew about that one?'
The picture then vanished and resurfaced, and Ash couldn't help but react. He was about to vomit.
The room, which had previously been so elegant, now frequently resembled a warzone. Furthermore, the Scream Tail appeared to have been slaughtered. Many people lay still in the royal room. Ninetales was nowhere to be found. Ash was wondering which Scream Tail he was dealing with. When he turned to face the sun-type, he noticed Scream Tail laying on the ground, head in between its paws. To Ash's horror, it was weeping gently. He mumbled as he knelt beside the fallen Pokémon. "It's… It's fine..." What else could he possibly say? 'Everything will be fine...' Ash almost chuckled at his own hypothetical response; all of its buddies had been slaughtered, and all he could say was, "Everything will be okay?"
Ash then saw another scene which was Scream Tail running in Area Zero and then climbing the mountain and then Scream Tail left Area Zero. Scream Tail then was roaming in Paldea and then Ash saw that few people spotted Scream Tail.
Ash saw that Scream Tail boarded a ship in Porto Marinada and that the ship was headed to Kanto. Scream Tail then reached the hull and then stayed in the hull for some time as the ship traveled. Scream Tail then reached where the ship stopped.
Scream Tail left the hull and then left the ship and reached Vermillion City. Scream Tail soon roamed around in Vermillion City at night and then left Vermillion City. Scream Tail traveled in Kanto for some time and then saw some Jigglypuffs who approached Scream Tail.
Scream Tail interacted with them and saw that it was related to it which made Scream Tail happy. Scream Tail then traveled in Viridian Forest for some time and saw the various Pokemons. Scream Tail soon traveled in the direction of Indigo Plateau and then reached Indigo Plateau.
But there was one item that remained a source of concern for him. He laid a gentle hand on Scream Tail's back and muttered while glancing at it. "I... I'm still curious as to why you've brought me here, Scream Tail..."
"She did it because I begged her to." Ash raised his head and felt his heart almost stop altogether. There in front of him was a massive white Pokémon the size of a five-story building. It has blazing red eyes and golden items adhering to its stomach. Ash wasn't sure how long he had been staring at the Pokémon before saying anything.
Ash was astonished and did not hear the conclusion of Arceus' sentence. He noticed Scream Tail standing next to Arceus, and Ash managed to escape. "So... you asked it to drive me here? Why? Why me?" Scream Tail huffed and moved her head away from Ash, irritated. Arceus said something. "She is also the last of her kind, and she is in serious need of help."
Ash gave a blink. "In Extreme Need? What kind of thing?"
Ash wasn't convinced, but he thought he saw Arceus smile. "A visionary." Ash blinked once more. "A-A boss? But didn't the previous uh... leader not work out so well? What kind of Pokémon should I look for...?" Arceus laughed. "When did I mention that a Pokémon was required?"
Ash scowled. "I thought you said that just now—"
"Scream Tail requires a leader. That's exactly what I stated. Consider that sentence further, selected one." Arceus elaborated. Ash still hadn't grasped Arceus' full meaning, but he had picked up on something Arceus had stated previously that he had missed.
Arceus then thought about betrayal of his so-called pals. The renowned grimaced. Only children this foolish would betray the one he had designated as the Chosen One. He would make them pay whatever the cost was. He was here in dream form, talking to Ash, for a reason. How could they have all done this to the poor boy?
Arceus eventually decided to cut to the chase. "Ash… I need to speak with you about something really significant."
Ash stood there waiting for the legendary to appear. The world's most powerful Pokémon spoke up. "It has been brought to my attention that one of my children mistook you for an enemy and attacked you. You see, while you don't have the same body, you do share similar experiences. You've both experienced loss, betrayal, heartbreak, and, most importantly, pain. She attacked you, but as she did so, she saw your brilliance, your potential, and, of course, your horrible experiences. She summoned me here to speak with you at that point."
Ash gave a nod. "So the reason I was so out of it was because you were mentally calling to me?" Arceus gave a nod. Ash went on. "I suppose that explains why I couldn't handle your might; after all, you are the most powerful Pokémon ever."
Arceus smirked. "Then why do I have the impression that something is still bothering you, Chosen One?"
Scream Tail gazed at Ash. "What brings me here? What does it mean to "Find a Leader"? How am I meant to locate Scream Tail a leader who meets its requirements?"
Arceus, much to Ash's amazement, began laughing at him. Spluttered Ash. "What's so f-funny..." Arceus concluded with a little chuckle. "You are not intended to FIND a leader, Chosen One..."
Arceus took a breather and said. "You were created to be a leader."
Ash's consciousness didn't register it for a few moments before his heart stopped beating completely. He looked at the God-Pokémon incredulously. Ash spoke as calmly as he could. "J-Just to clarify, if I understand you well, you want ME to be Scream Tail's TRAINER?"
Arceus just nodded. Ash remained silent, thinking the option that Arceus had given him. On the one hand, he could see why Arceus thought he was worthy: they both had tortured and troubled pasts involving some sort of betrayal, they both held potential and power that might be utilised for good, and so on. But, at the same time, did Arceus simply want him to teach Scream Tail because he was the chosen one, and their mutual betrayals were a great fit for Ash and Scream Tail? Was it some sort of plot by the god-Pokémon?
After Arceus had talked to him for a while about the prospect of amnesia, Ash had to admit that Arceus could be telling the truth. After all, what did the white-Pokémon stand to gain by deceiving him? Ash's thoughts wandered to words like 'Money,' 'Power,' and 'A Bargaining Chip.' But Ash felt that he should trust the mythological figure unless proven differently.
"Does Scream Tail want it?" After some while, Ash inquired.
Scream Tail stepped up and rubbed up against Ash's leg to respond. That clarified the situation. Suddenly, the image of Scream Tail's killing faded, to be replaced by a vision of... Himself! It was him, laying in bed, his eyes a brilliant blue. He noticed his elites, Cynthia and Steven, gathering around his bed, all concerned. He noticed Erika sobbing quietly on Paul's shoulder. Then he noticed a crying girl on his form. His breath hitched softly.
She was Misty. But why was she there? How long had he been unconscious? Arceus spoke up. "It appears... my chosen one... that you must return to your realm. Remember... My Chosen... you must never forget those who have betrayed you. You must not forget to seek out old friends when things are bad, and the most essential thing to remember is to test and uncover fresh potential before employing and wielding it."
When Ash opened his mouth to question what Arceus meant by "potential," the God-Pokémon merely grinned. "You'll understand what I mean, young one. My Chosen, this is not the final time you will hear from me."
As a blinding light began to blind him, Ash covered his eyes. Arceus said its last words to him. "Good luck, Ash Ketchum; I'll be keeping an eye on you from above..."
The room itself was fascinating. While most aristocrats had a common "Style" to their quarters, Ash's decorating was anything but typical or general. His room was basically three compartments, each the size of a big circle. It appeared to be a Venn Diagram. The chamber's door and entrance were in the centre circle.
His personal training part was in the left circle. There was a tiny pool, a battleground, and even a gym. Early in the morning, his elites could always find Ash in this spot. Each circle appeared to be the size of a small building's story. Naturally, his entire league was massive, so there was plenty of room to work with. His "private" bedroom, which was essentially directly as you stepped in, was in his centre circle. If Ash was very tired, he'd just lay down on his bed and pass out. It also featured a giant flat-screen television mounted on the wall immediately in front of him.
Meanwhile, he kept smaller beds in the chambers for his loyal Pokémon who were little enough to sleep on the beds. He also had a desk and different contraptions for which he would periodically seek Wattson's assistance. His Balcony and "Business" portion were in the far right circle. He could see Indigo Plateau perfectly from the balcony, and if something happened, he would know and could quickly help the inhabitants from there. He also had a television set that showed every major news channel in the vicinity at the same time to check if something noteworthy or tragic was happening. He also wisely chose to buy a PC device that would allow him to swap Pokémon at will.
However, no one was in either room at this point: they were all standing over Ash's bed, looking despondent. It was horrible to witness the group of people suffer, but Ash had been unconscious for three days and had yet to awaken. His match with Barry had been rescheduled. Fortunately for him, because he was the champion of a region and the host area, Paul was able to schedule it while stating Ghost was "off defending Kanto from an threat" and would return as soon as possible.
Misty had quickly approached them, inquiring as to why Red wasn't fighting, and they had led her to him. She hadn't left his side since, and it had been more than a day and Ash hadn't moved a muscle.
Paul spoke up. "Okay, everyone, that's it for now. Let us respect Red's privacy. It's time for you to go, Misty." She cried out. "But he requires assistance!" Paul beckoned for her to follow with a shake of his head.
"I was with him throughout all of his ordeals. I'm not going to abandon Ash! I'll stay here and help him in any way we can. That is what we both desire. You Elite Four were only recently chosen, however Ash and I have known each other for quite some time. When I visit him, I dwell in his room." Misty remained obstinate in her refusal to go.
"You could just get a hotel room!" said Paul.
"Even if I could, I'd want to spend as much time as possible with Ash. Ash is still alive, and he requires my assistance." While others were leaving Ash's room, Paul noticed Misty on his side.
"Misty genuinely support Ash, Sabrina." Paul said to Sabrina. "She could be acting for effect." Sabrina couldn't believe what she was saying.
"You could potentially be backing Ash for a show because you left Ash earlier than Misty. I know the truth is that you admire Ash and Misty adores Ash. Actions are more powerful than words." Sabrina nodded, knowing she was just being anxious after what had happened between herself and Lance.
"Yes, I'm just paranoid about Ash's pals after what his "friends" did to me and what Lance has done to me, even if he loves me." I'll keep an eye on Ash and Misty's relationship." Paul nodded when he heard Sabrina say that.
"You can keep an eye on them, but after seeing their love, I know Misty will never betray Ash and will always trust him, no matter who tries to make her do so. I'm glad to see Ash and Misty together because they're a good match." Paul was making sense to Sabrina.
"You could be correct. Based on the data we have, your logic seems reasonable, and Ash and Misty are a good match." Sabrina thought Ash and Misty were a good match.
"H-hey! Where are they all going? I'm not dead, you know—" A lovely redhead launched herself at him before he could complete his sentence. She sobbed. "Ash!" Ash chuckled and took her in his arms. "Hey… Hey, I'm back..." Misty put her arm around Ash's shoulder as the rest of the team returned to the room. "How are you doing, Ash?"
Misty stated. "What are your plans with Scream Tail?" She inquired because she was inquisitive. Ash stopped for a time, unsure of how to impart the news. He smiled and respectfully requested to view the pokeball carrying Scream Tail. Cynthia handed it over cautiously, intrigued by Red's plans.
He smirked and spoke up. "Why don't you approach her yourself?" As Ash opened the pokeball, or more rather, the ultra ball, the entire room seemed to move in slow motion. When Vaporeon was released, it let out a trill, and no one in the room moved an inch. Paul's arm was wrapped around Erika, ready to protect her if the need arose. Paul lifted an eyebrow in defiance of his leader. Sabrina appeared unconcerned by the gesture.
Cynthia stated shakily. "What are you doing, R-Red?"
Ash stared at Vaporeon, who nodded in agreement. The ultra ball was then crushed in his bare palm. Everyone watched as Ash reached behind him and touched what he was looking for on the underside of his Pokémon belt: a spare. He unclipped it and extended it to Vaporeon. When they saw what he was doing, everyone's eyes opened in surprise.
Ash smiled. "Do you want to come with me, Scream Tail?" He pushed the ball out more, keeping it close to the Jigglypuff looking Pokemon. The Pokémon approached it gently and tapped the ball on its brow. "Jigglyyy!" It said cheerfully before being pulled into Ash's hand's ball. It trembled for a few moments before closing. He gladly reopened the pokeball, and Scream Tail trilled pleasantly before snuggling down next to Ash, who didn't seem to mind. He turned to face the group, which was filled with astonishment.
Ash stated pleasantly. "I'm assuming everyone has questions?"
The silence in the room confirmed his thoughts. Ash laughed out loud. "Well, since we have time on our hands, let's get started, shall we?"
Present…
"...What the HELL are we going to do!" a horrified voice exclaimed.
A bunch of people were exchanging horrified looks and words. Unsurprisingly, you shouldn't expect to get away with stealing a Pokémon or two. Of course, the traitors had forgotten that they were discussing Red's territory. He ate crooks and thieves for breakfast almost every day. The traitors were now anxiously trying to figure out how to avoid arrest while still competing in the competition.
May was terrified. "I think that's everyone's question right now."Goh made a quick shake of his head. "There's no way I'm getting arrested for this!"
Chloe attempted to pacify her boyfriend. "It's cool, Babe; it's not like they have proof or anything, right?"
Clemont smirked. "It's our word against Red's, and Tyson's as well. There are definitely concerns with this situation, but the good news is that while some of us may get caught, not all of us stole Pokémon, so if they get imprisoned in Kanto, as long as we become champion, we can release the person who gets arrested."
May's eyes glowed. "That's correct! All we have to do is secure ourselves a victory, which shouldn't be too difficult!"
Clemont stated solemnly. "I wouldn't be so sure, babe. Look at our competition. Red is in Goh's Division, which means Goh will have to upset Red if he wants to make it in. I won't lie, I think myself and him in the finals is our best bet to conquer the tournament. Chloe is in the Necrozma bracket, but she still has to deal with a lot of elites and a lack of tournament experience. Cilan is already out. May
Before Goh began, there was a brief silence in the room.
"Hah! Red is going to get a taste of his own medicine after I finish with his team; he won't know what hit him," the lad claimed arrogantly. Chloe enthusiastically stroked her boyfriend's cheek and murmured. "That's my guy..."
Cilan spoke up. "I suppose we have another topic to talk, my friends: Tyson."
May snarled. "That kid is just too bright for his own good."
Goh brought this up. "He's an asshole who simply happens to get lucky when he battles me; that kid deserves more than just snatching a handful of his Pokémon and drugging him."
Iris had the decency to ask a simple question. "Won't everyone anticipate us to do something to him again because we've previously done it?" Clemont shook his head, his voice tinged with arrogance. "No, because our plan has already failed once, they presumably think we won't do it again, which means we have a good chance of knocking Red and Tyson out of this awful tournament."
A chorus of "yes" and "let's do this" rang out from the room, and the traitors gained speed. Goh stated arrogantly. "Let them come try to arrest us; they can't take us all down!"
"Would you like to place a bet on that?"
Every eye in the room turned to the doorway, where Red stood with Officer Jenny, an unidentified officer, and Tyson Winchine. When they observed his harsh and chilly manner, almost every face in the room paled: it was the side of Red that all his opponents feared to see, his angry, cold, and menacing one. He appeared to be ready to beat the snot out of anyone in the room. He was frowning and appeared to be on the verge of losing his cool.
Red took advantage of their reluctance to talk. "How about you?"
Clemont was the first to have the courage to speak up. "What exactly do you mean, Red?"
May gave a confident smile. "Yes, but what are you talking about?"
May's smile evaporated as Red's smirk was pasted on his face. "I'm delighted you inquired. I believe you stole a Pokémon from another contender, and we're merely here to confirm it."
Goh laughed. "What are you implying, Red?"
Red's grin broadened. "You see, I've always believed in taking extreme security precautions to maintain peace and tranquillity in Kanto." He moved gently to a corner of the room. " Metrics such as..." He made a motion to the wall and pointed up. "Cameras for security." Goh's face turned pale. May's eyes widened significantly, but Clemont's position didn't shift in the least. There was, indeed, a tiny and practically invisible camera in the corner. May burst out laughing. "You're invading our personal space!? You're really brave! I'll make sure you're arrested for unlawful breach of privacy!" The problem with that assertion was a single word.
Red grinned. "Did you say illegal?" May responded. "Yes!"
Red's grin expanded even further. "I knew people who were as remorseful as you weren't going to read the fine print. Under the agreement you all signed in order to be here, in the Pokémon Center, and wherever that has cameras, I, the leader of the area, am not allowed to check any and all security photos that may entail robbery and/or foul play of any kind. In a court of law, such offences will be considered as felonies."
Tyson turned to face Red. "Should we look, or is there enough to go on?"
Red gave a nod. "Espeon has already informed me of all I require." He made a move to the two cops. Then he sighed. "I hate to mention it, but just one person took them, and only one person ever put their hands directly on the pokeball. While I can put all of you on notice for being implicated in a crime, if you did not commit the crime, I suppose there is nothing I can do except arrest the most likely and certain suspect." May screamed as the officers grabbed her arms.
"What are you up to?!"
Red spoke solemnly. "May Maple, you've been arrested for having stolen Pokémon. You will be imprisoned at Indigo Plateau Jail until you can be tried, at which point you will be tried and almost definitely found guilty. You have been ruled ineligible to battle by the powers placed in me as leader and champion of the Kanto region, the tournament's host. Your participation in this tournament is hereby terminated, and the trainer you face in this round will receive a very unusual gift: a free pass to the next round. In a court of law, everything you say can be used against you. You are free to keep silent."
There was an immediate outpouring of rage. Surprisingly, Clemont was the loudest and most obnoxious of them all "What the hell!? That is not something you can do to her! You still haven't even looked at the camera!"
Officer Jenny finally said something. "Are you suggesting that more than one person is to blame here?"
Clemont reacted vehemently. "I'm suggesting that none of us are to blame here!"
Red laughed. "Oh? And how are you going to prove it? We're both aware that staring at the camera is a waste of time... right?" He gazed at Clemont with a gleam in his eyes that made Clemont reconsider his verbal assault on Red.
Unfortunately, Goh and Iris had other intentions.
"That is really ridiculous! May would never steal Pokémon if she didn't have to." Iris screamed.
Goh continued. "Yeah! We spent the entire day with her yesterday!"
Red was waving his arm away from the two traitors who weren't paying attention to anything he was saying. "Officer, forgive me if I interrupt, but haven't you heard me repeat several times that we have video footage of them inside this room and that we can genuinely verify what we all know? They're not the sharpest lot, are they?" Officer Jenny had the grace to grin and say while the traitor's wrath rose.
"Please forgive me, sir, but insulting those I'm arresting is not in my best interests." Red laughed. "I believe it would be, sure." The cops began forcing May out of the room, her hands now cuffed. She was sobbing uncontrollably.
"This is insane! This cannot be done to me! You can't! What would people say about Kanto if they do this to me? I am a leading coordinator."
Clemont attempted to sneak by May to kiss her goodbye. "Babe! W-wait!" May fought back against the officers and screamed. "This cannot be done to me! Clemont! Help!"
Jenny hissed as she battled May. "Stop... fighting!"
Goh screamed. "Don't be concerned, May! You'll be on your way soon! In any case, proof can be fabricated in an age when Alakazams can make CGI videos that are real and voice that appears authentic." Red recognised Goh's point, but it didn't matter because Red was the Champion and they were at his mercy.
Ash grinned. "I have my doubts."
Goh yelled at Red once again. "What the hell do you have against us?"
Red's expression darkened before he hissed quietly. "You think I'm expected to embrace the fact that you steal from your competitors? You think I'm meant to like the fact that you're attempting to take over my post?" Goh's eyes widened in amazement, and even Clemont appeared astonished. Chloe looked at Red with her mouth agape, while Cilan narrowed his eyes at the champion.
But it was May who broke the stillness. "How did you find out about that?"
Red simply smirked. "Everything that happens in my area is known to me. Nothing happens without my knowledge." When he saw the stunned expressions on his sworn enemies' faces, he merely expanded his smirk. "Did you think I wouldn't find out about your plot to win the event and depose me as champion? You didn't think I'd find out about your plan to induct the rest of your buddies as elites illegally, did you?" When no one spoke up, Red simply sighed and shook his head.
"You're all bad excuses for trainers. I truly feel sad for the Pokémon who are stuck with you as trainers."
Goh eventually broke the traitors' silence. "No, we aren't! Our affection for Pokémon—"
Ash smirked broadly. "Why don't you say hi to your old pal?" He took out a pokeball and poof! When it saw who was coming out, one blue dog-like Pokémon appeared, looking as if Christmas had arrived early. The water-type had a lascivious grin on its face and roared loudly. "Suii!"
Goh began to sputter incoherently as he witnessed his former Pokémon appear before him, stronger than he had ever seen it. With a smirk on his face, Ash remarked to Goh. "You can probably guess who I'll be utilising in fight tomorrow. You will see what a genuinely powerful Pokémon Manectric is and what you were hiding. Keep that in mind when you watch me tomorrow."
The cops then began dragging May out of the room, screaming the entire time, fighting and battling against the officers' wills. Ash gave the order. "Show no mercy to her. Allow this to be utilised in court. Escort the officers out, Suicune." The Pokémon nodded and went alongside May, who had almost totally ceased struggling at the sight of the water type.
Ash then gave the traitors one more look before smirking, seeing the glares, the faces of misery, hatred, and grief. He simply smiled at them and replied politely. "I want to see you all shortly."
He then backed off and let Tyson have his way with them. He felt no guilt, no emotion at all. He could feel his veins filling with blood. He simply laughed as he strolled out of the room, his spirits lifted by the Gohimum at the price of the traitors.
Goh muttered something beneath his breath. "Look at that arrogant jerk..."
Clemont shook his head angrily. "He'll receive exactly what he deserves."
Iris then placed a hand on each of their shoulders, her dark eyes glinting inexplicably. "Guys, don't worry, we'll have the last laugh. It's time to do some thinking."
After all, tomorrow was a battle with Red's name on it. Ash then thought about what happened in the past.
Flashback...
Ash and Misty were traveling in Great Crater of Paldea also known as Area Zero and they noticed there were very powerful Pokemons like Glimmora and other such Pokemons. It was rumored that there were ancient Pokemons which still lived there.
Misty then said to Ash "Pokemons like Great Tusk which is ancient Donphan, Scream Tail which is ancient Jigglypuff, Brute Bonnet which is ancient Amoongus, Roaring Moon which is ancient Salamence, Flutter Mane which is ancient Misdreavus, Slither Wing which is ancient Volcarona, Sandy Shcks which is ancient Magneton, and Koraidon which is ancient Cyclizar live here and they are rare to find."
Ash nodded and said "That is interesting to hear. This is a place with many strong Pokemons but we have our Pokemons which will defend us. We still need to be cautious. I love traveling with you." Misty smiled and said "Thanks! I also like to travel with you."
Ash and Misty looked at each other in the eyes and smiled at each other. Misty then held Ash's hand and Ash said "We can run!" and Misty smiled and said "Yes, we can run together." Then Ash and Misty ran in Area Zero while holding each other's hands and they were happy to be with each other.
The Following Day…
Ash sat in the locker room before the game, his face expressionless. It was the same one he wore when he was about to annihilate Goh and his treasonous gang of idiots. He silently considered his playing approach against Barry.
For a brief period, he frowned. Because of his wildly aggressive approach strategy, Barry was frequently underestimated by his opponents.
The trouble for Barry's opponents was that, while they recognised Barry's strategy, they couldn't find its weakness. Barry would simply keep aggressive until his opponent collapsed, and to be honest, the hazardous technique worked.
It worked... until he faced the Red's juggernaut. Ash wasn't sure how many of his Pokémon would perish, but if everything went as planned, he wouldn't have any problems. Someone entered the room and stuck their head in. When he saw who it was, Ash's mouth fell an inch.
"Wattson!" He was pleasantly delighted to see his white-haired pal standing there, he said. The youngster smiled brightly. "Hello, boss!" With only a tinge of true displeasure, Ash raised his hand and chastised him. "Red, you're not the boss."
Wattson completely disregarded him. "It doesn't matter. I'm come to tell you that your introduction will be ready in three minutes."
Ash's eyes widened in surprise. He exclaimed in horror. "What!? You're not serious!" Wattson gave a sheepish grin. "I'm afraid so. It's going to be a wonderful time, Redy, so get your game face on."
Despite his scientific genius's employment of Redy, Ash's expression became lifeless. "This is my poker face."
Wattson grinned. "What? Is it not appropriate for your song?"
Ash snarled. "No! No, it does not!"
Wattson smiled. "You should never have told me to use it!"
Ash shook his head in frustration. "I didn't expect you to utilise the blasted song!"
Wattson imitated Ash's movements, but with a dismissive gesture. "Red, get off it. It's a fantastic pump-up tune. Just trust me on this: you'll be glad you selected it once it's through."
Ash muttered. "Wattson, I hope you're right... Why do I have to go through this again? Is someone pressuring me? I'd like to know."
Wattson smiled once again. If his smile could get much bigger, it would go past his ears. "Someone, indeed!"
Ash scowled. "Who?"
Wattson stated brightly as he stepped to the door. "Me!" He then shut it behind him, which Ash heard loudly. 'Trainers, pay attention.. This is the announcer for the game. Please, Green Trainer, join the stage. Please enter the walkway and wait for your cue to enter, Red Trainer.' Ash groaned and stood up. He crossed the room to the other side, where a double door stood. He inhaled deeply and pushed on the doors. He could see a long tunnel ahead of him. He walked through them, peering over the walls of the tunnels. It was made of concrete. He started marching down the corridor, letting the doors slam completely behind him.
Elite Box…Stands…
"And now, introducing the green trainer, Barrryyy Junnn, from Twinleaf Town in the Sinnoh Region!" Barry emerged from his tunnel, flanked by two cannons on either side. They went off at the same time, with huge booms filling the stadium and sending a surge through everyone. Barry cheered wildly for himself, energising both himself and the audience.
Sinnoh residents began cheering and applauding. The remainder of the stadium applauded and clapped politely. Barry took his place in the trainer box. Misty blinked, perplexedly peering down at the spectacle. She was dressed in a red shirt, dark grey pants, a red vest, and a red cap. She had the same same expression as Red. She inquired Koga, perplexed. "Wait, where has Red gone?"
Koga just smirked. "We'll see."
It started as if on cue. The lights dimmed instantly, and the crowd began cheering, completely perplexing Misty. What was the situation? She became aware of people clapping in time. It was a very slow clap, perhaps once every other second. She joined the crowd since she didn't know what else to do.
When Ash heard the song start, he started strolling slowly down the tunnel. He couldn't see anything, but he could hear the audience clapping and the song slowly playing. There was no singing in it. It was just a steady beat. He continued to walk gently, allowing the adrenaline to rush through him.
Misty, on the other hand, was watching the big screen in the stadium. There was a single large screen on each main side of the stadium. She was seeing the South side screen because the elite box was on the North side of the stadium. She observed as several screens began to flicker.
'Red's shaded face'
'A cloud of dust falls to the ground'
'Red gets down on one knee next to Zoroark'
'Red puts on his red vest'
'Charizard knocks out its last opponent'
When a voice shouted over the stadium, Misty was shocked. "DOWN WITH VENASAUR! IT'S FINISHED! RED IS NOW IN THE THIRD ROUND!" The audience continued to clap; the sound had originated from the large screens.
The screen would change to a fresh short video no longer than two seconds long every time the audience clapped. It seemed strangely... energising. She could feel her blood flowing through her veins; what was this doing to her? Was it the steady and mellow music? Was it the audience clapping slowly to the beat's theme? She wasn't sure, and she didn't mind. When she looked around, she noticed Red's elites clapping alongside her and the rest of the stadium.
The audience then stopped clapping completely. The music and applause came to a standstill. The massive screen then displayed two words.
"Let's Go!"
Then, on the other side of the stadium, the crowd chanted something else, which Misty couldn't understand. Then the two words reappeared.
"Let's Go!"
She chanted it loudly, as did the bulk of others around her. The following word came from the opposite side of the stadium.
"Kan-To"
the fans on the opposite side of the pitch yelled back with all their might. The screen flashed once more, displaying one word at a time.
"Let's Go!"
Misty led the elites in chanting it.
"Kan-To"
This went on for over a minute, with the fans getting riled up by their own remarks.
Meanwhile, Ash continued to go slowly into the tunnel. The noises of all the spectators roaring were brilliantly caught inside the concrete tunnel. Only more adrenaline was coursing through his veins. He knew this match would excite everyone, and he was one of them; it was pure hype.
The television abruptly stopped flashing the words, and another song began to play.
That was it; pure mayhem. Because of the cacophony, Misty couldn't even think clearly. Everyone was bouncing around like a bunch of animals, she noticed. She was surprised to see the Kanto Elite hop around as well. She began to bounce around as well, joining the crowd's movements.
She couldn't explain why it felt so good, but she could feel the blood pounding through her veins as she leaped. The stadium appeared to be on fire. Then Koga next to her let out an exhilarating shout. It surprised her, but what surprised her even more was when the music became much louder as drums began to kick in. In response, she heard the rest of the stadium start screaming louder.
Meanwhile, Ash had arrived at the end of the tunnel. He could tell the entire stadium was going insane. He was gently nodding, trying to make himself excited. He closed his eyes and hammered his chest twice to get himself riled up. Then the guitar started to play, and he realised it was almost time to leave. Despite the adrenaline and blood coursing through his veins, he got down on one knee.
He muttered something under his breath. "Let the games begin..."
He immediately heaved himself up, and, as if on cue, smoke began to fill the stadium's entrance. He could still hear the guitar playing and the crowd yelling as if their lives depended on it. He could still feel goosebumps racing down his spine, sending chills down his spine. But suddenly it was time to go. He heard the exact moment when he was scheduled to enter the field. He stood at the door and went out just as the song's climax hit.
The clamour was deafening. He went out coldly in the middle of the song, his cool manner still his calling card. "HAILING FROM KANTO, GIVE IT UP FOR THE CHAMPION HIMSELF... REEEEEED!" yelled the announcer. The audience was yelling and shouting for him. As he proceeded forward, fireworks were being set off. They detonated in the sky, sending shivers through the audience and battlers alike. The music abruptly stopped, and Ash walked to his half of the field. The crowd was still going crazy. He noticed Barry looking strangely frightened, as if the music had truly crushed his confidence.
Ash smiled quietly. 'Perhaps that introduction isn't the worst idea ever...'
The referee yelled once he was in position. "This is a battle between Barry Jun of Twinleaf Town and the Red of Kanto! When all three Pokémon on one side are unable to continue, the battle is done. Is the green trainer prepared?"
Barry, who appeared to have regained his confidence, exclaimed. "I'm prepared!"
Throughout the cool night, the referee roared. "Are you ready, Red Trainer?"
Red gave a single nod. The referee also nodded in agreement. He yelled and raised both flags. "Let the battle begin!"
Barry did not waste time. "If you don't give me a decent fight, Red, I'll fine you a lot! Let's get started, Skarmory!" The steel bird emerged from the pokeball, trilling its name loudly. Ash frowned slightly. He felt it was time to let go one of his most powerful Pokémon. Ash then said "Charizard, go! You were with Damien but still you will prove your power!"
Charizard was released and he wanted to show the world how much stronger he was when he was with Ash. Ash then said "Flamethrower!" and then Barry said "Skarmory, Spikes!" and then Skarmory used Spikes and scaterred a lot os spikes on the field. Barry then said "Skarmory, return!" and then Skarmory returned to the Pokeball.
Barry then said "Empoleon, Hydro Cannon!" and Ash said "Charizard, Mega Evolve!" and Charizard Mega Evolved to Mega Charizard X. Charizard took the attack which did not do much damage due to Charizard being a part Dragon type Pokemon.
Ash then said "Charizard, Flamethrower!" and Charizard used a powerful Flamethrower attack and Barry said "Hydro Cannon and both the attacks hit each other and there was an explosion of steam. Barry was the first to react and said "Hydro Cannon!" and Charizard was hit by Hydro Cannon and lost health.
Red then said on seeing that "I must admit, you seem to be a good trainer, Charizard, fly and evade Hydro Cannon while using Flamethrower!" Charizadrd was then flying rapidly and using Flamethrower and the attack was hitting Empoleon and Empoleon was losing health while Empoleon was using Hydro Cannon which was missing to hit Charizard and then Hydro Cannon hit Charizard and Charizard lost health.
Ash knew that Torrent would activate and then Ash returned Charizard to the Pokeball. Ash then said "Electivire, go! Thunderbolt on yourself and Empoleon!" and released Electivire. Barry returned Empoleon and said "Hitmonlee, go! Low Kick!" Ash saw the Hitmonlee was being hit by Thunderbolt while Electivire was falling a few times due to Low Kick and was losing health.
Soon, Electivire was fast enough to escape away from the Low Kick attacks and Hitmonlee continued to be hit by Thunderbolt and was losing health rapidly and Barry soon saw Hitmonlee fainting. Barry then returned Hitmonlee to the Pokeball and then Barry said "Skarmory, go! Steel Wing!"
Ash then returned Electivire and released "Charizard and said "Charizard, Flamethrower!" and Skarmory hit Charizard with Steel Wing and caused Charizard to lose health while being hit by Flamethrower and losing health. Barry then returned Skarmory to the Pokeball and then Barry released Empoleon and said "Hydro Cannon!"
Charizard was hit by the move powered by Torrent and was losing health while continuing to evade the attack and Empoleon was being hit by Flamethrower and was losing health. Ash knew that Charizard had less health but still Empoleon was the first to faint.
Barry released Skarmory and said "Brave bird!" and Skarmory dived to do the attack whilebeing hit by Flamethrower and was losing health and was yelping and hit Charizard with the attack causing Charizard to lose helath and Barry saw his Pokemon not tolerating the power and said "Skarmory, no!" and Ash saw that and said "Charizard, stop!" and Charizard stopped the attack.
"Mr. Jun! I recommend that you lay down your arms!"
Barry comprehended why the attack had come to a halt: Red knew the battle was over, and Skarmory couldn't go on much longer. He grinned as he saw Red was not acting arrogantly, but rather humblely. Red smiled slightly as he watched Barry's face light up with awareness.
"Red, I'm grateful; I guess I won't be fining you after all. You're as powerful as everyone claims you are, but they forgot to mention how classy you were!"
He addressed the referee. "Mr. Official, I resign. I don't want my Pokémon to sustain any additional harm." The official even smiled and waved his flags. "Green Trainer has withdrawn his Pokémon from the tournament! As a result, Red from Kanto is the winner of the match and the trainer who advances to the next round of the tournament!"
The audience erupted in applause. They were mixed with praise and appreciation, having witnessed Red save Skarmory. Back on the field, Charizard extended his fist to Skarmory, who accepted it and was assisted to his feet. They exchanged glances before Skarmory nodded to Charizard, its grin still obvious. Charizard reacted with a smile.
"Char!"
Barry approached Skarmory and placed a hand on his partner Pokémon's back. "I'm glad you're all right, friend." He then turned to Infernape and said gratefully, "Thank you for your time, Infernape. I'm so delighted you were able to travel back in time."
The fire dragon nodded and smiled. "Chari-zard!"
Red approached Barry and said. "Barry."
The boy gave a small smile. "Thank you for a fantastic battle, Red. I'm just thrilled I can say I held my own against you in combat."
Red became silent for a time before saying something. "For the first time in this tournament, Barry, I can declare that I am pleased with my opponent. You fought hard against me, Barry, and when it came time to surrender when the battle was hopeless, rather than stubbornly refusing, you saw that you didn't want your Pokémon's condition to deteriorate and surrendered honourably." Red extended his hand with a tiny grin on his face.
"Mr. Jun, you deserve it. I don't give my respect lightly, but you've earned it." Barry smiled and extended his hand. "I appreciate the compliment, Red."
The champion gave a nod. "Don't bring it up. I'm looking forward to our next combat, Mr. Jun, provided you're still interested in fighting."
The youngster quickly answered. "Of course, I want to fight again! And you better win this competition, Red, because I'll fine you if you don't!" Red's face had a slight smirk on it. "Don't worry... I aim to do so." Barry smiled as he exited the stadium. Ash placed a hand on Charizard's shoulder and smiled as he said. "Excellent fight, Charizard."
The audience began to yell loudly. "Red! Red! Red! Red! Red! Red!" That same person got down on one knee with Charizard. He murmured quietly after a moment.
"For those who have gone before... and those who are yet to come."
Next to him, Charizard mumbled. "Char…" They both rose up at the same time, and Ash praised his fire type loudly "Charizard, you were fantastic. Take a well-earned break." Ash walked back to the concrete tube while the fire dragon returned to its pokeball. He stepped out of the crowd's line of sight, and as he walked back, he heard the roars of the crowd ricochet off the concrete walls.
"Red!"
"Red!"
"Red!"
