"But you broke into that factory, stole a toolset, and you have superpowers." You've got to be a villain. Um, by the way, why would you steal a toolset? I shouldn't be telling you this, but there are way more valuable things in there. For example, Viridiallum. Oh, are you going to monologue about it? "I bet you're going to monologue." Rev rambled.
"Mon a who?" The duck asked, rising to his feet with quite a bit of effort. The desert sun was beating down on him like nothing he'd ever felt before. And to think he thought Acmetropolis' summer was hot.
"Monologue" is when a villain...
"OKAY," like whatever, I don't care. "Listen, I know how it looks, but I am not a villain, bad guy, or whatever you want to call it. "And by the way, I'm pretty sure you broke into that place too." He said this with a sidelong glance at Rev.
"I had to." Rev snapped defensively. "I had to stop you from taking this tool set. "Pretty glitchy thing to grab, by the way." He shook the box in Duck's face. "I mean, it's only a few dollars."Just go pick one up at the store. "Like, really, what were you thinking?"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Duck said, irritably flicking his wrist. "Normally I would, but I'm a bit pressed for time here, and as you can see, there aren't any stores around here." He said gesturing to the empty desert around them. "So if you would just..."
"Oh.. why? Are you going to build something? like a motorcycle or a sand buggy? Ooo, I know you were on your way to somewhere, maybe a party or a flea market, but it doesn't matter... and your motorcycle, or whatever you drive, broke down. But when I think about it you might be more of a hoverbike kinda guy, But as I was saying, you had to go on on foot, but lost your way and ended up here."
Rev didn't know why, but when he started talking, his mind just sent him on tangents. He just had a lot of things he wanted to say and didn't see the point in keeping them to himself.
"You people really need to remember your cellphones when you come out here." He went on. "I know this GPS app that I bet you'd love. I helped code some of it. See, that's how I know it's good. It's a bit pricey, but I think you'll find it totally worth it! It's…"
"No stop! Just stop!" Duck yelled, taking Rev off guard.
Duck took a deep breath and grumbled to himself.
"I don't believe it." "I'm in the middle of nowhere, and I'm still getting dumb ads."
With another deep inhale, he turned his attention back to speaking to the roadrunner.
"OK, listen. "Nothing like that happened." Just let me explain really fast so I can get out of here! See, I was...
"Building a doomsday machine when the timing mechanism failed... Rev exclaimed, still convinced he was a bad guy.
No no no stop! "Listen, I only wanted something to get this blinky thing off my jumper." Duck yelled and yanked on a large green light attached to the shoulder of his outfit.
Rev paused for a moment. Now that he thought about it, it did look oddly familiar.
Back over at the cliffs, the stranger was still observing them through a pair of fancy, high-end binoculars. In his gloved hands, he held two feathers. one purple and one brown.
"You're the first anomaly." He said as he held the purple one up to Rev, comparing them. "And you're the second one." He held the brownish one up to the duck.
He unfolded his backpack into some sort of portable analysis station. He put the feathers and some golden brown hairs into a small slot in the device and stood back.
"All I have to do now is wait." He looked back at the two teens through his binoculars. "You two may have the answers I'm looking for." The mysterious stranger said zooming in on them.
Rev looked at the blinking device on the jumper. It was definitely a tracker, similar to the type his father sold a few years ago for women's purses and for... "Oh! You're an asylum escapee!" Rev exclaimed, stepping away from him.
"If I am, they issued me the wrong uniform." "This bad boy is far too cool for one of them." Duck said, tugging at the jumper.
The cream-colored outfit had a digital line pattern that ran from a silver band on the left foot up to the right shoulder. It had a built-in digital watch on the wrist that appeared to have been cracked and probably didn't work. All in all, Rev had to admit it looked more like one of those fancy workout suits than that of an asylum patient. But there was something odd about it. Then it hit him. The digital line! That wasn't part of the design. It was Viridiallum emerging from that band. But that couldn't be it? Viridiallum wasn't a liquid. Not as far as Rev understood it. He would have to ask his father about this later.
"Why do you have a tracker made to track them?" Oh, you are an escaped prisoner. "Is that it?"
"No!...sort of, but it's not like that." Duck waved his hands defensively.
"Nobody puts a tracker on someone unless they're up to no good," Rev said, folding his arms, and giving him a strong look of doubt.
"Exactly! The duck replied with a snap of his fingers.
Look, all I know is that one minute I'm at work, then my roommate shows up going off about some space rock or something, then BAMM! I'm hit by something, and I black out. "Next thing I know, I'm in some sort of hospital with nurses getting weirdly excited about taking plasma, you know, normal E.R stuff, but then they start talking about experimenting on me, and I just kind of zapped out of there, and they have been after me since."
"You got hit by the meteor too?" "I knew that's where the powers came from." Rev snapped his fingers.
"Meteor? Hmm, Interesting... I guess that sounds right. Wait! "You have superpowers?"
"Um, yeah, super speed." Weren't you paying attention? I was really booking it ya know!"
"I know you're fast. "You're a roadrunner, duh." comes with the package." Duck said, rolling his eyes.
"I think you're confused." You're thinking of the roadrunner from Loony Toons. My ancestor by the way. We roadrunners aren't really that fast. Fast but not that fast. Also, how cool is it that you know loony toons? Most kids my age don't even know what it is. Tell me, who is your favorite? Mine is Marven, but of course, I love the roadrunner. Hey, do you know his real name? it's...
"Daffy hands down. Duck stated confidently. "And maybe Yosemite Sam." Taz is cool but terrifying... I mean to small children, not to me, of course... Wait a minute! I don't got time for this. Hey, listen, since you're a hero, get this dang tracker off me! Believe me, you'd be saving my life! Duck said, desperately grabbing Rev by his shirt.
"Well... Rev took a moment to think it over.
"Since you're not a villain, you've got to be a hero." Hey, do you want to be a superhero team? Rev inquired eagerly."We should be a superhero team. We could be called the Bionic birds. No, that's not right; that sounds like we're robots.
You're not a robot, right?
"Uhmm Not as far as I'm aware, and no. No thank you. You know what I'd really like? "To get this darn..."
RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
The ground started shaking around them like a big truck was coming, but there wasn't anything in sight.
"That's them! "They found me!" Duck panicked, teleporting away in a flash.
SHHHZING!
Rev looked to see he had reappeared on top of the factory. Now webbed feet weren't the best thing to be on a glossy inclined roof. Duck found himself sliding to the edge the second his feet touched the roofing.
Below tracks begin to appear in the sand from nowhere.
Inside an armed truck sits two shady characters "It's our lucky day we can kill two birds with one stone." The taller stranger said loading a gun-like thing with two darts.
