*Finally updating this! I've been so busy, plus I've been sick with the flu for the last few days. Also, for those of you reading My Greatest Toy Showman story, I've deleted it. I couldn't keep up with it and lost interest in it. I'll keep it for now and maybe post again down the road, but for now I've just stopped and deleted it. Sorry everyone. I'll have another Toy Story story up in a week or two and updating this. So, enjoy chapter 7! *
"What do we do now? We're trapped! Sonic yelped. Trapped like ra..AH! Ow!" He curled into a ball in pain. Knuckles scooped him up and placed him on the ground further away from the opening. Checking him over, he saw that the slash on his chest had started bleeding through the dressing. Quickly, he removed it and replaced it.
"My supply is getting low. You had a lot of injuries. Knuckles said. And if help doesn't arrive soon, you'll bleed out." He looked at Sonic and noticed the young hedgehog had suddenly become pale. "Hey. Sonic, stay with me, okay? Tell me what you're feeling."
"I, I feel tired. And, and a little bit dizzy."
"You've lost a lot of blood, and you haven't had any food or water since we got back from fishing. Here." He placed a blanket that he swiped from the abandoned campsite over the young hedgehog, and then pulled out two canteens. "I am going to explore this cave, see if I can find any water. I need you to stay here. Don't move or else you'll injure yourself more. Understand?" Sonic nodded and then lay down. Knuckles got up, took out a flashlight, and began to walk down the cave. He didn't see much except a few rock formations along the floor and ceiling. He got to the end and heard the small trickle of water. To his right, he saw a small stream. Filling the canteens with as much water as they could carry, he walked back to where he left Sonic. In that short amount of time, the blue hedgehog had fallen asleep. Knuckles sat down softly beside him, but it still made the boy stir.
"Di, did you find anything?" He asked.
"I did. Open your mouth." Knuckles said. Sonic did as he was told, and Knuckles slowly poured the cool water down into his mouth.
"Thanks. That helps." The blue boy was breathing heavily. Knuckles checked his forehead.
"You have a small fever. Once we get you rehydrated, that will start to normalize." Knuckles said before sitting down beside him and took a swig of his own canteen. They were silent for a moment until Knuckles spoke up again. "You mentioned earlier that you didn't know your parents. What did you mean by that?" Sonic closed his eyes.
"Basically, what I said. I never knew them."
"Did they die before you were born?" Sonic chuckled lightly.
"I kind of wish that was the truth, then maybe the real truth, wouldn't have hurt as much." Sonic took a long, deep breath. "My parents, they were always on the run because enemies wanted their powers. When word spread that they were going to have a child that would be more powerful than both of them combined, they went into hiding." A lump in his throat had formed and Sonic swallowed, trying to release it. "Three days after I was born, they took me out to the middle of the forest and left me there. Longclaw found me a few days later."
"Hold on, they abandoned you? Why on earth..."
"They knew that keeping me would pose a threat for them, so they figured the best plan was to make me disappear, pretend they never had a son in the first place. So yeah, that's why I said I never knew them, because they didn't care to know me or even want me." Sonic turned his head away from Knuckles and curled up into a ball. Knuckles was shocked. Now he finally understood why Sonic said when they first met that he had lost everything just like he did. Knuckles put down his canteen and scooped the hedgehog up into his arms.
"Umm Knux? What are you doing?" Sonic asked.
"I've seen your human parents do this to you. I believe it is called a hug. Something that is done when one needs comfort." Sonic was taken back by this but returned the gesture. "I'm so sorry, Sonic, for what your parents did. I can't even begin to imagine what you went through after that." They broke apart and Sonic looked at him.
"I'll tell you; it wasn't easy. But Longclaw made me feel safe and kind of became my mother for a while, until she died trying to save me."
"I'm so sorry. And I'm sorry if I always act so bitter to you, as you say. It's always been my mood up until recently."
"What do you mean?"
"Teaming up with you and Tails, working together to defend the town, it's made me feel very defensive with you two. In a way, I've started to see you two as my brothers, my family." Sonic's eyes went wide.
"Whoa, Knux."
"Don't let it go to your head. You're still very annoying sometimes, but I guess that's part of brotherhood. Sometimes they find each other annoying, but they still would do anything to help them. Like I did, saving you today."
"And here I thought you hated me."
"I'm going to get us out of here, Sonic, one way or another." Knuckles turned to the wall of debris. Getting to his feet, he walked over to it, pulled his arms back, and smashed his fist against it.
"Knuckles, wait!" Sonic yelled. Knuckles ignored him and continued to punch through the debris wall. Finally, he broke through and flames shot in through the hole. Knuckles broke away more of the wall till there was a sizeable opening. Rushing back to Sonic, he picked him up.
"Keep your head down and try not to breathe in!" Knuckles yelled. He then rushed out of the cave through the fiery inferno.
*So, I know that's not the real story of Sonic parents (I've seen sonic Underground) but for the record, Sonic's parents were not mentioned in the new movies, so I kind of gave him a sad backstory. But it will get better, I promise. *
