Rip opened both of their beers as they sat down. Katie stood on the bay bale between her parents holding on to Beth's hat on her head for stability. Beth pulled out Katie's water bottle from her handbag and gave it to Katie.

"You can put your hat on too please." Beth asked but was really telling her. Beth smoothed Katie's hair before putting it on her head.

Katie sat down between them after giving Beth her water bottle.

"Hey Rip. Fancy seeing you here." Rip turned feeling a hand clasp his shoulder. Turning he saw Travis standing next to them.

"Hey Travis. How's things?" Rip shook his hand. Beth nodded hello to Travis and Katie looked over at him before smiling.

"I hear Walker is playing?" Travis nodded in the direction of the stage.

"Yeah, thought we'd enjoy some time away. Same idea you had I see."

"Yeah well you guys enjoy. I'm off to have some beers with the other wranglers." Travis nodded to the girls before leaving.

"Daddy?" Rip turned to look at Katie, "Can we go there?" Katie pointed to where lots of kids were playing on the jungle gym and nearby rides.

"All right. Let me finish this beer first." Rip told her having another swig of beer. Katie grinned and jumped off the hay bale. "You want to come Beth?"

"No you both go, I'll be fine here." Beth said waving them off.

"Let's go cowgirl!" Rip told her, Katie running to keep up with him before reaching for his hand. Beth noticed she pulled on Rip's hand before he squatted so she could whisper something in his ear. He nodded before standing and swinging her up on to his shoulders.

"Do you think they have fairy floss, Daddy?" Katie asked reaching time hold his chin.

"I think they might. We can get some on the way back. Do you want to go on the jungle gym first or maybe play some games?" Katie thought about the options before deciding on the games, pointing to the clown game.

"Stand up there sweetheart. Right you have to pop the ping pong ball in the clowns mouth and see where it lands for what prize you get." The attendant told Katie. She climbed up on to the ledge with Rip's help and stuck the balls in the slot when the clowns head moved.

The attendant added up the points at the end and pointed to the row of soft toys second from the top. "You can pick any toy from thati row."

Katie looked across and then back at Rip. "Anyone that you want darlin'."

"Can I please have the bear?" Katie asked pointing to a big soft brown teddy bear. The attendant used their hook to reach it and gave it to Katie.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome, she's got great manners." Rip smiled and nodded before lifting her down.

The pair walked to the jungle gym before Katie passed Rip the bear and ran off to play. He sat on the park bench and watched from a distance. There were a lot of mothers around with their kids and a few dads huddled around talking. Katie didn't really play with many kids other than Tate so it was nice to watch her interact with kids her own age.

"Which one is yours?" A lady asked sitting don next to him. She had long blonde hair, shorts and a linen top on with cowboy boots and a hat. Rip didn't think she was from around here.

"Ah little girl in the denim dress and the hat. Yours?" Rip asked.

"She's cute like her Daddy." The woman looked at Rip and winked. Rip knew the game she was playing.

"More like her Mama actually. Fiery like her too." Rip said with a laugh.

The woman laughed with him and slid closer. "What about you handsome?"

Rip ignored her. Hoping she would get the hint to leave. He watched as Katie slid down the slide and ran back up to the top again and again. The woman settled in to where she was sitting next to Rip.

Beth was still sitting on the hay bale when Monica and Kayce met her.

"Hey Beth." Kayce greeted her. "Where's Rip and the kid?"

"Hey guys. They're off playing games." Beth pointed out the jungle gym and games. Both Monica and Kayce sat down each with a drink in hand.

"You seen anyone else?" Kayce asked Beth.

"We saw Travis earlier and he said some wranglers were about and Dad might show up later." Kayce nodded. "I might go see what my two are doing. See you later."

Kayce and Monica nodded and waved good bye as Beth headed for the jungle gym. She spotted Rip with his back to her and some woman trying to cuddle up to him. She shook her hair and wondered what was happening today. She approached from behind and heard the woman trying to chat him up but he was giving her anything.

Beth snaked her arms around Rip and down his chest before greeting him. "Hey baby. Who's your friend?"

Rip turned and shook his head smiling. "This is my fiancé Beth, sorry didn't catch your name." Beth sat on Rip's knee as he put his arm around her waist resting his hand on her thigh.

"I was just going." The woman said about to stand.

"Don't go because I'm here, you were having a great time hitting on my man." Beth said, the woman paled slightly and Rip grimaced.

"Here she comes." Rip said noticing Katie running towards them.

"Hi my baby." Beth greeted her, Katie's cheeks red from running around.

"Hi, Mama." Katie panted, out of breath. "Can you hold my hat?" Katie was pulling it off before she got an answer.

"Do you need to have a rest darlin'?" Rip asked her. Katie pondered it before shaking her hair and running back to the slide.

"So which one is yours?" Beth asked the woman.

"Oh no, I don't.."

"Ah, just came to try and hit on my man." Beth tapped Rip's chest smirking. "Bad luck honey."

The woman raised her eyebrows before nodding. Katie ran back over this time conceding defeat and needing a break.

"Can I have fairy floss now please?" Katie asked

Beth stood. "Nice to meet you. Come on Katie." She held her hand out, "Daddy's just saying bye to his new friend."

Rip shook his head standing and following them both not offering the woman a goodbye.

"Couldn't help yourself, could you Beth?" Rip said holding her hand. She shook her head and laughed.

"I like watching them try." Beth said.

Katie tore into the bag of fairy floss on the way back to Monica and Kayce and had plenty of energy when they got back.

"Hi Katie." Monica said.

Katie waved before giving her a sticky fingered hug.

"Think Walker should be on soon." Kayce said lifting the set list.

Katie was sitting facing Beth in her lap when John arrived.

"Katie you need to have your hands wiped. Sit still." Katie stopped wiggling around hearing the tone offering a small apology.

"I know you've got lots of energy but let's just settle for a bit first. When Walker is playing we'll go to the front." Katie nodded before scooting closer to Beth and cuddling her front.

"I miss when Tate would do that." Monica said watching the two of them. Beth smiled.

"I don't want her to grow anymore." Beth said causing Monica to laugh. "Or at least, don't want her to never do this."

The family sat around before the wranglers and Travis joined them. The sun was warm against their skin and the beers were flowing freely. Katie was happily on Rip's shoulders clapping her hands and he moved to the beat of the music. Occasionally she would reach down for Beth's hand.

"You're definitely the apple of her eye." Monica said.

"What do you mean?"Beth asked curiously

"The way she looks back to make sure you're never too far away. Clearly comfortable with you considering what she came from." Monica told her. Beth smiled, it felt good for someone else entirely to acknowledge it.

Rip approached the two of them. "Hey, I think Walker is up next and we did say we would go to the front. Sorry Monica." Rip said

"No worries at all. Go enjoy!" Monica told them. The three went to the front together, Ryan, Colby and Lloyd joined them at the front.

Walker played a few songs that they all had heard before, Katie dancing in front of them all. Rip and Beth dancing along to the rhythm, Rip occasionally grabbing her hand and spinning her around making her laugh.

"This next one is for all the mothers out there..." Walker said before counting in and a fiddle player began to play. Katie heard the words mother looking back to make sure Beth was nearby. Walker began to sing and Katie jumped up and down. When he sang the line about missing his mother, Katie reached up for Beth who easily lifted her into her arms. Beth held one of Katie's arms out danced like they were ballroom partners, turning on the spot. Katie laughed uncontrollably. The crowd started clapping along and Katie clapped her hands above her head. Rip put her on his shoulders, one arm holding her legs around his shoulders and the other dancing with Beth.

Walker played a few more songs before ending his set. The Yellowstone boys clapped and cheered him on.

"Back to where we were before now." Rip said to Katie lifting her off his shoulders. Katie started walking just in front of them all to where John was.

"Did you have fun granddaughter?" John asked. Katie nodded

"Walker sings good." Katie told him.

"Yeah he does." Katie sat on a hay bale next to John. "Do we have water Mama?"

Beth nodded, passing Katie her water bottle who drank thirstily. "Thirsty sweetie." Beth commented. Katie passed back an empty water bottle.

Everyone sat around until Walker joined them celebrating with a beer. "Barbecue back at the bunkhouse everyone." Lloyd announced. Everyone stood to take their leave.

"Where we going?" Katie asked.

"It's time to go home." Rip told her.

"All finished?" Katie looked around and noticed people packing up. Rip nodded, taking her hand in his. He wrapped his other arm around Beth's shoulder as they walked to the car.
