Inside the Bar

Manning, Colorado

Third Person POV

Stevie Ray Vaughan's song, The House Is Rockin' is playing.

A shot of the bar covered in newspapers, someone's hands turning the pages of a hunter's journal.

"Mr. Elkins?" the barmaid asks him gently.

Mr. Elkins is totally focused on the journal.

"Mr. Elkins, would you like another?" the barmaid asks Mr. Elkins.

"Yeah. Thanks Beth." Mr. Elkins tells Beth, looking up.

"Thought they caught the Unabomber." a man at the bar says to Beth.

"Yeah, poor Mr. Elkins lives all alone, up the canyon. Sits here every day, going through his papers, making his little notes. He's a nice old man; he's just a nut." Beth tells the rude man.

Beth pours another shot for Elkins. "Here you go." Beth tells him.

Elkins looks up. One woman and three men have entered the bar. They survey the room before moving to the bar. Elkins watches them.

"What'll you have?" Beth asks them.

"Jack all around, leave the bottle." the woman tells Beth.

"You hungry?" Beth asks the woman.

"We have dinner plans." the woman tells Beth.

"Ok." Beth says.

Beth turns to grab a bottle of jack. "Can I get you something else Mr. Elkins?" Beth asks Mr. Elkins. She turns to find his place empty.

Outside, Country Cabin

Elkins POV

I park and hurry to the door, looking behind me as I struggle with the key. Once inside, I dump my papers on the desk, then freeze. I slowly turn to see the woman from the bar.

"It's been a while. I gotta say, you look old." the woman tells me.

"What do you want?" I ask her.

"What do you think?" the woman says.

I throw a knife which hits the dead center of her chest. She looks down.

"Damn. You can do better than that." she tells me as she pulls the knife out.

Her eyes flash and she smiles. ELKINS hurries into the other room, locking the door and pushing a heavy bookcase across it. He opens a cupboard to reveal a safe and begins the combination.

Her eyes flash and she smiles. I hurry into the other room, locking the door and pushing a heavy bookcase across it. I open a cupboard to reveal a safe and begins the combination.

"Ah, come on, come on." I say to the safe.

There is banging on the door. I remove a metal box from the safe and open it to reveal an old-fashioned gun. I begin to load it. The banging continues.

Two men drop through the roof and leap over the desk to grab me. The gun falls to the floor. The bookcase barricading the door falls and the woman walks though. The woman picks the gun up from the floor and examines it.

"Nice gun. Wouldn't do you much good of course. Boys, we're eating in tonight." the woman tells me.

The men fall on me. I scream. They are vampires.

Inside, Day, Cafe

Rhiannon POV

Dad is flipping through a newspaper, holding Joan, Uncle Sam is holding Henry, Aunt Lei, holding Gryphon, and Uncle Harry are on their laptops, holding Vicki. While I am here, sitting feeding an unruly baby, aka Altair. Gwen is laughing beside me as every baby is either in booter seat or in a lap, and yes, Razzie and Lore are here, with Prim and Cate in their laps.

Dad folds the paper. "Well dude. Not a decent lead in all of Nebraska. What've you got?" Dad asks them.

"Well, I've been scanning Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota. Here. A woman in Iowa fell 10,000 feet from an airplane and survived." Uncle Sam and Harry tell Dad.

"Sounds more like 'That's Incredible' than, uh, 'Twilight Zone'." Dad tells Sammy.

"Yeah." Sam says.

"Hey, you know we could just keep heading east. New York. Upstate. We could drop by and see Sarah again. Huh?" Dad says. "Cool chick man, smokin'." Daddy tells Sammy. He whistles. "You two seemed pretty friendly. What do you say?" dad asks Sammy, smirking.

"Yeah, I dunno, maybe someday. But in the meantime, we got a lot of work to do Dean, and you know that." Uncle Sammy tells Dad.

"Yeah, all right. What else you got?" Dad asks Sammy.

"Ahh, man in Colorado, local man named Daniel Elkins, was found mauled in his home." Sammy says.

"Elkins? I know that name." daddy says.

"Doesn't ring a bell." Sammy tells Daddy.

"Elkins...Elkins...Elkins." daddy says under his breath

"Sounds like the police don't know what to think. At first, they said it was some sort of bear attack and now, they've found some signs of robbery." Sammy says.

"Mm-hmm." Daddy hums. Dad starts flicking through Grandpa John's journal. "There, check it out." Daddy tells Sammy.

Dad hands the journal to Sammy and points. 'D Elkins 970-555-0158' Daniel Elkins

"You think it's the same Elkins?" Sammy asks.

"It's a Colorado area code." Dad tells Sammy, taking Altair from my arms.

The 1967 Impala, 1996 Impala SS, 2004 Ford Mustang Mach, 2005 780-mile Porche Carrera GT, and 1994 Jaguar XJ220 cruise down the road, snow-capped mountains in the background.

Inside, Elkins Cabin, Night

The door opens slowly to reveal Sammy putting away his lock pick, and dad with a flashlight.

Dad looks around at the mess. "Looks like the maid didn't come today." Dad jokes.

"Hey, there's salt over here. Right beside the door." Aunt Laila tells dad.

Dad flicks through Elkins' journal. "You mean protection against demon salt, or 'oops I spilled the popcorn' salt." Dad asks.

"It's clearly a ring. You think this guy Elkins was a player?" Uncle Harry asks.

"Definitely." dad tells them.

Sam comes up behind Dad. "That looks a hell of a lot like Dad's." Sammy tells Daddy.

"Yep, except this journal dates back to the 60s." Dad tells Uncle Sammy.

Shot of outside. A man is standing in the shadows of a large tree, looking at the cabin.

Sammy and Dad move into the other room and shine their flashlights around the destruction, including up at the hole in the roof.

"Whatever attacked him, it looks like there was more than one." Sammy says.

"Looks like he put up a hell of a fight too." daddy says.

"Yeah." Sam tells daddy.

We look around the room. Dad crouches to get a closer look at the floor.

"You got something?" Sammy asks Daddy.

"I dunno. Some scratches on the floor." daddy tells Sammy.

"Death throes maybe?" Sammy asks.

"Yeah, maybe." daddy tells Sammy. Dad grabs a page from a notebook, places it over the marks and rubs a pencil lead over it to get an outline. "Or maybe a message." dad says.

Dad peels up the paper, which has a lot of blood on the back, and rubbings of characters; he hands the paper to Sammy. "Look familiar?" daddy asks Sammy.

"Three letters, six digits. The location and combination of a post office box. It's a mail drop." Sammy says.

"Just the way Dad does it." daddy tells Sammy.

Post Office, Night

Sam POV

Dean opens the post office box; I am at his side. He removes a letter, stares, and shows it to me. We look at each other, confused.

1967 Impala, Night

"'J.W.' You think? John Winchester?" I ask Dean.

"I don't know. Should we open it?" Dean asks.

There is a knock on Dean's window. Dean gasps, rears back, automatically raising his arm, fist clenched. It's John Winchester, aka our dad. When dad sees he has shocked them he smiles.

"Dad?" Dean asks.

Dad, after Rhi and Gwen huddle together, gets in the backseat.

"Dad, what are you doing here? Are you alright?" I ask dad.

"Yeah, I'm ok. I read the news about Daniel; I got here as fast as I could. I saw you two at his place." dad tells us, Rhi and Gwen seem scared of their grandfather.

"Why didn't you come in Dad?" I ask dad softly.

"You know why. Because I had to make sure you weren't followed... by anyone or anything. Nice job of covering your tracks by the way." dad says.

"Yeah, well, we learned from the best." Dean tells dad, looking a little proud.

"Wait, you came all the way out here for this Elkins guy?" I asked him, everyone surrounding him now.

"Yeah. He was... he was a good man. He taught me a hell of a lot about hunting." dad tells me.

"Well, you never mentioned him to us." I tell dad.

"We had a... we had kind of a falling out. I hadn't seen him in years." dad says. "I should look at that." he says, gesturing to the envelope. He opens it. "'If you're reading this, I'm already dead'... that son of a bitch." da reads something that makes him cuss.

"What is it?" Dean asks dad.

"He had it the whole time." dad tells us.

"Dad, what?" Lei, Lore and I ask.

"When you searched the place, did you, did you see a gun? An antique, a Colt revolver, did you see it?" dad asks us.

"Ah, there was, there was an old case, but it was empty." Dean, Harry, and Laila tell dad or to Harry Uncle John.

"They have it." dad tells us.

"You mean whatever killed Elkins?" Dean asks.

Dad starts to get out of the car. "We gotta pick up the trail." dad says.

"Wait. You want us to come with you?" Razzie, Lore and I ask dad.

"If Elkins was telling the truth, we gotta find this gun." dad tells us.

"The gun - why?" I ask.

"Because it's important, that's why." dad tells us.

"Dad, we don't even know what these things are yet." I tell dad.

"They were what Daniel Elkins killed best: Vampires." dad tells us.

"Vampires? I thought there was no such thing." Dean tells dad.

"You never even mentioned them, Dad." I tell dad.

"I thought they were extinct. I thought Elkins and - and others had wiped them out. I was wrong." dad tells us.

3rd Person POV

"Most vampire lore is crap. A cross won't repel them, sunlight won't kill them, and neither will a stake to the heart. But the bloodlust, that part is true. They need fresh human blood to survive. They were once people, so you won't know it's a vampire until it's too late." John voices over.

A car comes along the road toward the vampires.

The female vampire throws away the empty bottle to smash on the road. "All yours, baby." the vampire tells her mate.

In the car a young man drives, a young woman in the passenger seat.

"Well, I bet you showed that guy." the woman in the car says, laughing.

"What guy?" the guy driving the car asks.

"The one that bet you wouldn't buy that shirt." the woman tells him.

The guy looks at her. "I love this shirt." he tells her.

She shakes her head, smiling, and turns back to face the road. The guy continues smiling at her. She sees a man lying in the road.

"No, look out!" the woman shouts.

The guy slams on the brakes.

"What happened to him?" she asks.

"Call 911." the guy tells her.

The guy goes to the man on the road as the girl opens her phone. He turns the man's face to him. His eyes open, as does his mouth and a mouthful of fangs descend from his gums. He grabs the young guy.

Motel

Laila POV

My eyes pan across Sam, Dean, Lore, Razzie, Rhi, Gwen, and the kids sleeping peacefully in our motel room.

"Unit 22 let me confirm. Mile marker 41, abandoned car. You need a workup?" a dispatcher asks the man on scene.

"Copy that. Possible 207. Better get forensics out here." the man on scene tells dispatch.

My eyes stop on dad, sitting at the table with a radio held in both hands. He puts it down, jumps to his feet and grabs his jacket.

Dad slaps Sam's and Dean's feet as he calls their names. "Sam, Dean, let's go."

"Excuse me? What about us? I understand Harry and Razzie, or at least one of them, as Rhia and the others need to be babysat!" I protest.

"You can't You and Lorelai are pregnant. Hadraniel and Raziel will come with us." Dad tells me.

Dean Immediately, although still asleep, starts to get up. "Mm-hmm." Dean tells dad.

Sam half sits up. Dean starts rubbing his eyes.

"I picked up a police call." dad tells Sam, Dean, Harry and Raziel.

"What happened?" Sam asks dad.

"A couple called 911, found a body in the street. Cops got there everyone was missing. It's the vampires." dad tells Sam.

Sam rises from the bed. "How do you know?" Sam asks Dad.

"Just follow me, ok?" dad tells the guys as he leaves.

Sam walks across the room, putting his jacket on.

"Huh, vampires. Gets funnier every time I hear it." Harry and Dean say at the same time, still half asleep.

Outside, Day

Hadraniel Singer POV

John finishes talking to a cop on the scene and starts walking back to the boys, waiting by the 1967 Impala, 1996 Impala SS, and 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

"I don't see why we couldn't have gone over with him." Sam says, slightly sulky.

"Oh, don't tell me it's already starting." Dean asks Sam.

"What's starting?" Sam asks Dean.

"What have you got?" Dean asks John.

"It was them all right. Looks like they're heading west. We'll have to double back to get around that detour." John tells us.

"How can you be so sure?" Sam asks John.

"Sam..." Dean tries to cut Sam off.

"I just wanna know we're going in the right direction." Sam tells Dean sharply.

"We are." John tells Sam.

"How do you know?" Sam, and I ask.

John hands something to Dean. "I found this." John tells Dean and Raziel.

"It's a... a vampire fang." Dean and Razzie say.

"Not fangs, teeth. The second set descends when they attack." John tells them.

John looks at Sam and me. "Any more questions?" John asks us.

Sam and I look away and stay silent.

"Alright, let's get out of here, we're losing daylight." John tells us.

We start heading for our respective cars.

"Hey, Dean, why don't you touch up your car before you get rust? I wouldn't have given you the damn thing if I thought you were going to ruin it." John tells Dean, and I wanna give him a swift kick to the arse.

Dean looks down at his car. Sam looks at Dean with a 'told you so' look on his face. Dean grimaces.

Inside of the 1967 Impala

Dean POV

Sam is driving, following dad's truck.

"Vampires nest in groups of eight to ten. Smaller packs are sent to hunt for food. Victims are taken to the nest where the pack keeps them alive, bleeding them for days or weeks." I read. "I wonder if that's what happened to that 911 couple." I then say.

"That's probably what Dad's thinking. Course it would be nice if he just told us what he thinks." Sam tells me grumpily.

"So, it is starting." I tell him.

"What?" Sam asks me.

"Sam, we've been looking for Dad all year. Now we're not with him for more than a couple of hours and there's static already?" I ask Sam.

"Hmph. No. Look, I'm happy he's ok, all right? And I'm happy that we're all working together again." Sam tells me.

"Well good." I tell him.

"It's just the way he treats us, like we're children." Sam tells me, unable to help himself.

"Oh God." I say.

"He barks orders at us Dean, he expects us to follow 'em without question. He keeps us on some crap need-to-know deal." Sam tells me.

"He does what he does for a reason." I tell him.

'What reason?" Sam asks me.

"Our job! There's no time to argue, there's no margin for error, all right? That's just the way the old man runs things." I tell Sam.

"Yeah, well maybe that worked when we were kids but not anymore, all right. Not after everything you and I have been through, Dean. I mean, are you telling me you're cool with just falling into line, and letting him run the whole show?" Sam asks me, looking at me challengingly.

"If that's what it takes." I tell Sam, giving Sam a long look; weakly, as if I'm convincing myself.

Sam shakes his head.

Inside, Barn, The Vampire's Nest

Third Person POV

The vamps are partying, drinking and dancing. The 911 couple are sitting tied to a pole.

"Have some beer, buddy. It will calm your nerves." a male vamp tells the guy.

"No thanks." the guy tells him.

"Aww come on. You drink enough I can taste it in your blood." the vamp says.

"That's gross." a female vamp says, walking up behind the male vamp.

"How 'bout you babe?" he asks.

He lifts the bottle to the woman's mouth and forces her head up with it. She drinks it.

"Atta girl." he tells her.

She spits it back in his face. He wipes it with his sleeve then lifts his arm to backhand her.

"Bo! Wait for Luther." the female vamp tells Bo.

Bo glares and walks away. The door opens and then Luther walks in. The female vamp throws herself on him and they kiss.

Luther laughs. "I missed you too, baby." Luther tells his mate.

"We got presents." she tells Luther.

"She looks interesting." Luther says, stroking the woman's face. "He doesn't. Lock him up." he says, grabbing the guy's face.

The other vamps pull the guy to his feet.

"On second thought - go ahead and treat yourself." Luther tells the other vamps.

The vamps laugh, excited. They throw the guy down and fall on him. The woman sobs, terrified, as the guy screams.

"There's something else." the female vamp tells Luther.

She leads him to the bar where cash and silver are heaped.

"This all theirs?" Luther asks her

"No. It's from an old friend of yours, Daniel Elkins. I caught his scent and thought I'd surprise you." she says, smiling.

"Kate, what did you do?" Luther asks, concerned.

"I made him suffer." Kate tells Luther.

"You shouldn't have done that." Luther tells Kate.

"Luther..." Kate goes to say.

"There's others like him. They'll know the signs and come looking for us. We have to be careful." Luther tells her.

"Luther, I did it for you, for what he did to your family." Kate tells him.

"Revenge isn't worth much if you end up dead." Luther tells Kate.

"I'm sorry babe. I'm sorry." Kate tells Luther.

Luther picks up the gun.

"I thought you might like that. It looks like it was made around the time you were born." Kate tells Luther.

"I've seen this before." Luther says.

"Elkins died with it in his hands. He should have known better. Using a gun." Kate tells Luther.

"This is no ordinary gun." Luther tells Kate.

Inside the 1967 Impala, Night

Dean POV

Sam is driving.

I am on phone. "Yeah Dad. Alright, got it." I tell dad. I hang up. "Pull off at the next exit." I tell Sam.

"Why." Sam asks angrily.

"Cause Dad thinks we've got the vampire's trail." I tell Sam.

"How." Sam says, very angry.

"I don't know; he didn't say." I tell Sam.

Sam guns the engine, I look at him like he's crazy. I turn to look at dad's truck as Sam overtakes it and passes it. Once in front, Sam slams on the brakes, causing the Impala to swerve sideways in front of dad's truck. They both stop.

"Oh crap. Here we go." I say as Sam gets out of the car. "Sam!" I yell. I follow Sam out of the car.

Sam and Dad, who is also out of his truck, both looking angry.

"Sam!" I yell at him.

"What the hell was that?" dad asks Sam.

"We need to talk." Sam tells dad.

Dad comes to a halt face to face with Sam. "About what?" dad asks him.

"About everything. Where are we going Dad. What's the big deal about this gun?" Sam asks dad.

"Sammy, come on, we can Q and A after we kill all the vampires." I tell Sammy.

"Your brother's right, we don't have time for this." Dad tells Sam.

"Last time we saw you, you said it was too dangerous for us to be together. Now out of the blue you need our help. (yelling) Now obviously something big is going down, and we wanna know what!" Sam tells dad.

"Get back in the car." dad tells Sammy.

"No." Sammy tells dad.

"I said get back in the damn car." dad tells Sammy.

"Yeah. And I said no." Sammy tells dad.

"Ok you made your point tough guy. Look we're all tired, we can talk about this later. Sammy, I mean it, come on." I tell Sammy, hovering.

I grab Sam and push him back toward the car. Sam goes, still staring at dad.

"This is why I left in the first place." Sammy mumbles.

"What'd you say?" dad asks Sammy.

"You heard me." Sammy says, swinging back.

"Yeah. You left. Your brother, sisters, and me, we needed you. You walked away, Sam." dad tells Sammy.

"Sam..." I start to say.

"You walked away!" dad yells in Sammy's face.

"Stop it, both of you." I tell them.

You're the one who said don't come back Dad, you closed that door not me. You were just pissed off that you couldn't control me anymore!" Sammy tells dad.

"Listen, stop it, stop it. Stop it! That's enough!" I say as I force them apart.

Sam and dad stare at each other over my head.

"That means you too." I tell dad, looking at dad.

Sam gets into the Impala. Dad turns back to his car. I stand in the middle, alone. I look from one to the other.

"Terrific." I say to the night air.

Inside, Barn, Vampires Nest

Third Person POV

Kate and Luther get it on against the bar. The 911 woman is still tied up, trying not to watch as Luther removes Kate's shirt.

They both turn to look at the woman.

"You like to watch huh? Me too." Luther tells the woman. "Ready baby?" Luther asks Kate.

They turn to face the woman.

"Are you going to kill me?" the woman asks, sobbing.

"I'm going to take you so high you're never going to come down." Kate tells the woman.

Luther cuts Kate's arm with his knife. Kate sucks on it then goes to the girl, kissing her and forcing blood into her mouth as Luther watches.

"Welcome home baby." Luther tells the woman.

Outside, Vampires Nest, Day

Lorelai Freyja Winchester POV

From the trees we watch as a beat-up Camaro pulls in. Great grandpa Luther, in a t-shirt, comes out to meet it, holding the door open and shading his eyes from the sun.

"I know what time it is." the vamp tells Luther.

"Get in." great grandpa Luther tells him.

Luther looks around then goes back inside.

Dean is hiding in the trees with dad, Sam, Harry, and Razzie when we sneak up on them. "Son of a bitch. So, they're really not afraid of the sun?" Dean asks then curses at us and glares.

"Ahh, direct sunlight hurts like a nasty sunburn. The only way to kill 'em is by beheading. And yeah, they sleep during the day - doesn't mean they won't wake up." dad tells the boys. "Who's watching the kids?" he asks us.

"Jo, Ellen, Helena, and Sarah." I tell dad.

"So, I guess walking right in is not our best option." De asks Dad.

"Actually, that's the plan." Dad tells Deano

Dean opens the trunk. The boys weapon up while dad does the same from an automatic hidden compartment that slides from the back of his truck.

"Dad, I've got an extra machete if you need one." Deano tells dad, looking over.

Dean holds it up, but dad unveils a massive shiny serrated edge machete from a leather holder.

"I think I'm ok. Thanks." dad tells us.

"Wow." Dean says, checking the Machete out.

"So, you boys and girls really wanna know about this Colt?" Dad asks them.

"Yes sir." we all say.

"It's just a story, a legend really. Well, I thought it was. Never really believed it until I read Daniel's letter..." dad tells us.

1835

A man is making the gun and numbered bullets, carving a devil's trap into the handle.

"Back in 1835, when Halley's comet was overhead, the same night those men died at the Alamo. They say Samuel Colt made a gun. A special gun. He made it for a hunter, a man like us only on horseback. Story goes he made thirteen bullets, and this hunter used the gun a half dozen times before he disappeared, the gun along with him. And somehow Daniel got his hands on it." Dad says, as I see the scenes, but then come back to the present.

"They say... they say this gun can kill anything." dad tells the boys.

"Kill anything like, supernatural anything?" Dean asks.

"Like the demon." Sam says.

"Yeah, the demon. Ever since I picked up its trail, I've been looking for a way to destroy that thing. Find the gun - we may have it." Dad tells us.

Inside, Barn, Vampire's Nest

Dean POV

A barn window swings inwards. Dad jumps through and disappears. Sam follows, then Harry, Razzie, Lorelai, Laila, then me. We survey the room. Vamps are sleeping in hammocks. All is quiet.

Dad looks into the stalls. Sam, Harry, Razzie and I make our way through the barn. As I pass a hammock, I kick an empty bottle on the ground. It clinks but the vampire doesn't wake.

At the back of the barn dad finds Kate and great uncle Luther asleep on a bed in an alcove. The gun hangs in a holster beside them.

Sam finds the 911 woman tied up against the pole, sleeping or unconscious.

"Dean." Sam whispers to me.

Dad slowly makes his way down a few steps to the bed. Uncle Luther turns over in his sleep.

Sam POV

I begin to untie the woman. We hear a noise.

Dean looks behind us. "There's more." Dean tells me.

Dean makes his way to a locked metal grid. Inside people are tied up, also sleeping or unconscious. There is a lock on the door. He grabs a metal hook to break the lock. I look up sharply at the noise and we look over to the hammocks. There is no movement.

3rd Person POV

John approaches the gun.

Laila POV

The woman tied up against the pole begins to stir.

"Hey. Hey, hey, shh, I'm here to help you." Sam whispers to the woman.

The woman roars, an unearthly roar. Sam and Harry rear back, Dean and Razzie look around. The vampires wake.

"Sam!" Dean shouts.

John POV

I turn toward the noise. Beside me Luther and Kate wake. Luther rears up and throws me against the wall. I grab a rock and hurl it at the blackened window, letting in the daylight. Luther and Kate flinch away.

"Boys, girls, run!" I tell my family.

Lore POV

Sam, Dean, Harry, Razzi, Laila, and I run, calling to our dad for the Winchesters, and Uncle figure for the Singers as we do. The vampires give chase. Sam, Dean, Harry, Razzi, Laila, and I burst out the barn doors into the daylight and run up the slope to the cars before turning to look back.

"Dad?" Dean, Sam, and I ask. "Dad!" Laila says.

After a long pause Dad comes running up the slope. As soon as we see him the boys turn to leave, but Laila and I stay when we see Uncle Luther.

"They won't follow. They'll wait till tonight. Once a vampire has your scent, it's for life." dad tells us.

'Well, what the hell do we do now?" Dean and Laila ask.

"You gotta find the nearest funeral home, that's what." dad tells us.

We look at him, confused, then at each other.

Inside the Motel Room

Sam, Razi and I pace. Dad sits at the table.

"It shouldn't be taking this long. I should go help." Sammy says.

"Dean, Laila, and Harry's got it." Dad tells us.

Dad watches us pace.

"Sammy, Lore, Razi." Dad says.

"Yeah." Sammy says.

"I don't think I ever told you this but ... the day you were born, you know what I did?" dad asks Sam.

"No." Sam says.

"I put a hundred bucks into a savings account for you. I did the same thing for your brother. It was a college fund. And every month I'd put in another hundred dollars, until... Anyway, my point is, Sam, this is never the life that I wanted for you." Dad says.

"Then why'd you get so mad when I left?" Sam asks daddy.

"You gotta understand something. After your mother passed, all I saw was evil, everywhere. And all I cared about was keeping you boys alive. I wanted you...prepared. Ready. Except somewhere along the line, I ... uh ... I stopped being your father and I ... I became your, your drill sergeant. So, when you said that you wanted to go away to school, all I could think about, my only thought was, that you were gonna be alone. Vulnerable. Sammy, it just... it never occurred to me what you wanted. I just couldn't accept the fact that you and me - We're just different." Daddy tells Sammy.

Sam huffs a laugh.

"What?" Daddy asks Sam.

"We're not different. Not anymore. With what happened to Mom and Jess..." Sam tells Dad. with a laugh. "Well we probably have a lot more in common than just about anyone." Sam tells Dad.

"I guess you're right, son." Dad says with a smile.

"Hey Dad? Whatever happened to that college fund?" Sam asks Dad.

'Spent it on ammo." Dad tells Sammy.

They look at each other. Sam cracks up and so does dad.

Dean, Lei, and Harry enter.

"Whew. Man, some heavy security to protect a bunch of dead guys." Deano, Laila, and Harry say.

"Get it?" Dad asks them.

Dean fumbles in his pocket, withdrawing a paper bag and from that a bottle full of something red. He hands it to dad.

"You know what to do." dad tells us.

Road

Razzie, Dean, Harry, and Sam lean over the open bonnet of the Impala, looking at the engine.

"Car trouble?" a woman asks.

Dean turns to see Kate.

"Let me give you a lift. I'll take you back to my place." Kate tells Deano.

"Nah I'll pass. I usually draw the line at necrophilia." Dean tells Katie, grinning.

"Oooh." Kate says, angry. She backhands him. Another vamp approaches. She grabs his face and lifts him into the air.

"I don't usually get this friendly until the second date but..." Dean starts to say, grabbing her wrist.

"You know, we could have some fun. I always like to make new friends." Kate tells De.

She lowers him to her level and kisses him, still holding his cheeks tightly.

Another vamp watches, smiling.

"Oh. Whuf. Sorry. I don't usually stay with a chick that long. Definitely not eternity." Dean tells Kate.

An arrow pieces the other vamp's back. A second later the same almost happens to Kate.

Looking down at the point that would have been sticking out of her chest. "Dammit. Hunters." Kate says.

John, and Sam emerge from the trees carrying Catalogue.

"It would barely even sting!" Kate hisses at dad.

"You would have to give it time sweetheart. That arrow's soaked in dead man's blood. It's like poison to you, isn't it?" dad asks.

Kate looks shocked, then runs and loses her lunch after she gets to the barn.

"Load up." Dad tells us and then gestures to the other vamp. "I'll take care of this one." dad tells us.

Dad approaches the other vamp who is sitting groggily on the ground. Raising his machete, he brings it down.

Outside, Night

Laila POV

A campfire is burning. Dad hands Dean a bag and they move from the Impala's trunk back toward the fire where Sam is patrolling with a machete.

"Toss this on the fire. Saffron, skunk's cabbage and trillium. It'll block our scent and hers, until we're ready." Dad tells us.

"Stuff stinks!" Dean says after sniffing and coughing.

"That's the idea. Dust your clothes with the ashes, and you stand a chance of not being detected." Dad says.

"You sure they'll come after us because of what we tried to do?" Sam asks.

"Yeah. Vampires mate for life. She means more to the leader than the gun." Dad says.

"A half hour woulda done it." Sam says.

"And then I want you out of the area as fast as you can." Dad says.

"But..." Sam starts to say.

"Well, Dad you can't take care of them all yourself." Dean tells Dad.

"I'll take of her. And the Colt." Dad says.

"But after. We're gonna meet up, right? Use the gun together. Right?" I ask.

There is a long pause.

"You're leaving again, aren't you. You still wanna go after the demon alone. You know, I don't get you. You can't treat us like this." Lorelai says.

"Like what?" Dad asks.

"Like children." We all say.

"You are my children. I'm trying to keep you safe." Dad says.

"Dad, all due respect but, uh, that's a bunch of crap." Dean and I say.

Sam, Lore, and Dad both look at Dean, and me, shocked.

"Excuse me?" Dad asks us.

'You know what Sammy, Harry, Razzi, Lei, Lore and I have been hunting. Hell, you sent us on a few hunting trips yourself. You can't be that worried about keeping us safe." Dean tells Dad.

"It's not the same thing, Dean." dad tells Dean.

"Then what is it? Why do you want us out of the big fight?" Dean asks dad.

"This demon? It's a bad son of a bitch. I can't make the same moves if I'm worried about keeping you alive." dad tells Dean.

"You mean you can't be as reckless." Dean says.

"Look... I don't expect to make it out of this fight in one piece. Your mother's death ... it almost killed me. I can't watch my children die too. I won't." dad says to Dean.

"What happens if you die? Dad, what happens if you die, and we could've done something about it? You know I been thinking. I ...think maybe Sammy's right about this one. We should do this together." I tell dad.

Sam and Lore nod.

"We're stronger as a family, Dad. We just are. You know it." Dean tells dad.

"We're running out of time. You do your job, and you get out of the area. That's an order." dad tells us.

Dean looks down, emotional. Sam clenches his jaw, I narrow my eyes, and Lore puts her hands on her hips.

Outside Vamp Nest, Night

Luther POV

A vamp pulls up to where I and the others are waiting and heads towards them.

"Is there any sign of those three?" I ask.

"No. Something else." the vamp says.

"What?' I ask.

"Luther, they cut off Frank's head!" the other vamp says.

"And Kate?" I ask.

"She wasn't there. She left this though." he tells me.

'Was saved by two female hunters. gonna recon to find about them.'

The noise of cars distracts us.

"It's just a truck up on the highway." a vamp says.

"Kate. She's around the hunters. To find out why the females saved her." I whisper.

Night

John's truck travels down the road. Kate follows the truck. After moment headlights shine in the rearview mirror. Two cars approach John's truck quickly from behind.

Vamp Nest

Laila POV

A vampire swigs from a bottle. Looking up, he moves to stand in front of the barn doors, considers them a moment, then shrugs and takes another swig. He turns to find my brother, Dean Winchester behind him.

"Boo." Dean says.

Dean swings his machete, then makes his way back to the locked container of people.

"I told you I'd come back." Dean says.

"You didn't have to behead him!" I tell Deano.

He begins breaking the hinges.

Lore POV

Dad looks in the rear-view mirror, but the cars have disappeared, so has Kate.

Dad has to stop when the road is blocked ahead of him by Luther, three other vamps, and two cars.

"Get out! Who are you?" Luther asks.

"Name's Winchester." dad says.

"Dad, shut up for once." I tell dad.

"Where are your friends?" Luther asks.

"Cleaning out your nest." dad says.

Luther smiles tightly. "Where's Kate?" Uncle Luther asks.

"Come here sweetheart." Dad says, turning to the truck as he knew she followed us.

He pulls a Kate out, holding a large knife to her throat.

"Kate, you all right?" Luther asks.

"Would have been drugged with Dead man's blood. If not for the girl." Kate says.

'You son of a bitch. You dare to threaten my mate with Dead Man's blood!" Uncle Luther hisses. "Why did you help her?" Luther asks me.

"Do you the last names Campbell or Halliwell? Well, it's Williams now but..." I ask.

"Those are the last names of the men my sisters married." Luther says

"I want the Colt. Elkins gun. Trade." Dad says.

"Is that what this is all about? I mean, you can't shoot us all right? We'll kill you." Uncle Luther says.

"Oh, I don't need it for you. I'm saving it for something else." dad says.

"Put the colt down, or she goes first." dad tells Luther.

"All right. Just don't hurt her." Luther says.

Luther places the Colt on the ground.

"Back up. Further." dad says. I glare, preparing to save both Kate, and Luther.

Dad drags Kate forward and leans down with her to pick up the gun.

"It's a nice move, you almost made it." Luther tells dad.

Kate swings around, knocking dad back against his truck. He drops the gun. Luther approaches, backhanding dad back against his open car door, shattering the glass before he lands unconscious on the ground. Luther approaches again.

An arrow pierces one of the vamps and Sam, Laila and Dean run out of the trees, Dean pauses to line up and shoot another vamp with his crossbow. Laila moves toward Luther who backhands her. Dean grabs a machete and turns to help but Luther has his arm around Laila's throat.

"Don't! I'll break her neck. Put the blade down." Luther says.

"She's pregnant!" I say, trying to keep her alive.

For a moment Dean does nothing. Luther tightens his hold on Laila's neck, cutting off her air supply completely. Dean drops the machete.

"You people. Why can't you leave us alone. We have as much right to live as you do." Luther says.

"I don't think so." dad says from behind.

Luther turns. dad raises the colt and shoots him between the eyes. Luther lets go of Laila who stumbles away, gasping, and I pull Laila behind me. A sigil appears where the bullet hit Luther and he stumbles. A brief flash of light reflects his skeleton, before he falls to his knees.

Kate cries out in horror: "Lutherrrr!" Kate cries.

Another flash of light passes through Luther, and he slumps to the ground dead.

Kate starts toward dad. Another vamp grabs her, pulling her to their car. They take off, wheels screaming. Dad smiles in satisfaction.

Motel Room

Sam, Dean, Harry, Razzi, Laila, the kids and I are packing. Dad enters.

"So, boys and girls." dad says.

We turn to face him.

"Yes sir." Laila says.

"You ignored a direct order back there." dad says.

"Yes sir." Sam says.

"Yeah, but we saved your ass." Dean and I say.

Sam looks sideways at Dean and I, nervously. John looks steadily at Dean. Dean swallows.

"You're right." Dad says.

"We are?" Dean and I ask.

"It scares the hell out of me. You two are all I've got. But I guess we are stronger as a family. So... we go after this damn thing. Together." Dad says.

"Yes sir" Sam, Dean, Razi, Harry, Laila and I say in unison.
