Jake walked over to them. "Mr. Tom I'm here to tell you that it isn't necessary for Mari to stay at the hospital anymore. All the tests needed were made and her life isn't at risk. I'm sorry to say that my conclusion is that her blindness can't be cued."
"Unless I take the risk with the operation right?" Tom asked
"Yes tomorrow she'll be discharged and you'll be able to take her home." Jake replied.
As Tom and Jake were talking Ana walked in Mari's room. "Who's here?" Mari asked.
"It's me Mari Ana do you need anything?" Ana asked.
"No I'm fine." Mari replied. "Where's dad?"
"Outside talking to Jake." Ana replied.
Tom soon entered the room. "Mari I have news that I'm sure you'll like. You'll be discharged from the hospital tomorrow and you'll be able to go back home. Isn't that great. At home you'll be more calm attended well and slowly you'll get used to being blind."
"I'll never be used to being blind." Mari replied. "Dad you have to promise to find a way to cue me no matter what. I know that you can do it you can find the best doctor to operate me. I need to be able to take care of Adrienne. To be able to protect her. To be able to raise her and see her become a strong woman."
Tom sighs. "Alright dear we'll talk about that later for now get prepared to go home tomorrow. I'll call Sabine so she doesn't come. This will be your last night here."
"Alright dad whatever you say." Mari replied. "I can't wait to be with Adrienne and be with her all the time."
The next morning everyone was waiting for Mari to come home and when she entered with Tom Adrienne walked over to her. "Mama!"
Mari bended down and picked Adrienne up with help from Tom. "This time it felt like I haven't held you in years Adrienne." Sabine and Fu hugged her as she held Adrienne welcoming her back home. "And Tikki?"
"I'm right here Mrs. Mari how are you doing?" Tikki asked from in front of her.
"I'm fine and Tikki I told you to just call me Mari we're friends after all. If you don't I'll be mad at you." Mari said playfully. "Who else is here?"
"Me Mrs. Mari welcome home." Plagg stated.
"Thanks Plagg and the same thing goes to you too nothing of Mrs. Mari I'm just Mari to my friends." Mari replied. "I'm glad to be home even though I have to move around without being able to see anything."
"I'll help you to your room dear." Tom stated.
"I'll go with you." Sabine added as both Tom and her led Mari to her room.
"How are things between you and Mari?" Audrey asked Adrien during breakfast.
"Badly Audrey. I went to talk to Mari to try to solve our situation and I told her that there's no other woman for me since I still love her but she's so hurt." Adrien replied. "She thinks that I get close to her only because of pity and she's trying to do everything in her power to hate me."
"It must be terrible to lose the ability to see especially with a two year old daughter so I don't blame her." Audrey stated.
"Carefully please." Mari said as she nervously walked. "I'm afraid to fall especially with Adrienne in my arms."
"You won't fall so walk with confidence." Tom replied.
"This is terrible I don't even know where I am." Mari stated in fear.
"We're close to the stairs your dad will let you know when you'll be stepping down." Sabine replied.
"What I do know is that I have to help Mari." Adrien stated. "I have a plan to help her get her sight back if done correctly. I'll work hard and keep fighting for her."
"Well congratulations and if you don't mind me asking what's your plan for Mari to get her sight back?" Audrey asked.
"To operate her. I'll put myself to date of the latest advances in ophthalmology." Adrien replied. "I am also an ophthalmologist I'll bring the light back to Mari's eyes."
"But you never finished that profession." Audrey stated.
"It doesn't matter I'll finish it now and I'll cue Mari no matter what." Adrien replied. "It might take months for me to study everything but it doesn't matter how long it takes I'll find a way to cue her no matter what other doctors say."
"What you're doing is admirable." Audrey stated.
Sabine helped Mari sit down on her bed. "I'll never be able to get used to living without sight. I'll be useless for the rest of my life."
"You won't be useless dear." Sabine stated. "There are plenty of people that were born blind that moved on in their lives. I can give you many examples."
"Maybe it's easier for those that were born blind but not for someone that used to be able to see the sky the flowers and everything else." Mari replied.
"You need to learn how to fight and learn to walk around the house alone." Sabine stated. "And not having to depend on others so much."
Adrien was studying in the study when Edward walked in the study. "Why so many books?"
"I need to be updated on everything to do with ophthalmology which I pushed aside completely." Adrien replied. "I decided to cue Mari myself."
Mari was laying in her bed thinking about Adrien and the kiss they shared and she sighed in frustration. She wanted to hate him but she couldn't.
"Wasn't she going to get her sight back overtime?" Edward asked.
"There's a lot that you don't know Edward." Adrien replied. "Tom had a heart attack after Isabella and Lila confessed everything that they did against Mari. A few days later Mari goes to the hospital and forgave him for everything accepting him as her father. That night unable to see she fell down some stairs and she had to be taken to the hospital to be checked at luckily she and Adrien who she was holding at the moment were fine. I went on a trip to try to forget about her without knowing that she was still blind. I came back the next day after finding out that she was still blind. I found her at the neighborhood and I tried to talk to her and told her how much I loved her but she didn't want to listen to me and walked away. She walked to the street and she got hit with a car and she fell unconscious hitting her head again."
"I can't believe all the bad things that happen to Mari poor thing." Edward stated.
"The hit on her head worsen her condition and now doctors are afraid to operate her." Adrien replied. "But I won't just do nothing for her. Even if she says that she hates me. Now Tom hates me and blames me for everything that happened to her...so how is the wedding preparation going?"
"Well it should be in a month and remember that you were going to be the best man." Edward stated
"Not were I'm still the best man." Adrien replied. "I won't abandon my patients or my studies and especially not you during your wedding day."
Sabine took Tom to the living room to talk. "Yesterday I called Ana and she said that you were arguing with Adrien. Why did you do that?"
"I found him in Mari's room tormenting her." Tom replied. "She was desperately telling him to leave but he didn't want to. According to him he was apologizing to her."
"I think that he was being sincere and it wasn't even his fault." Sabine stated. "Adrien didn't know that was going to happen. He came back because he found out that Mari was still blind and he wanted to fix everything to make her happy."
"You're against our daughter if you're in his side." Tom replied.
Sabine shook her head. "I'll never be against our daughter but I am in his side."
"All I know is that Adrien is to blame for how Mari is right now." Tom stated. "Lila is paying for what she did now Adrien needs to pay too by giving up on her if he really loves her."
"He does love her Tom and Mari loves him too even if she tries to deny it." Sabine replied. "Don't forget about their daughter Adrienne who still unites them together."
Soon Ana arrived and Tom gave her the new duties she had to fulfill. "I want you to help Mari with whatever she needs but it is also necessary to re educate her. Mari needs to learn to be independent. She needs to be taught how to move around the house on her own, to eat alone and to act as natural as possible. I know that you're an intelligent young woman and you'll know how to help her. Mari needs to get used to living her life without being able to see in case that she can't be cued."
"You can count on me. I'm not just your employee I'm also Mari's friend." Ana replied. "What should I do first?"
"The first thing would be to teach her how to walk around the house. To make her count her steps. Show her where everything is so she can find anything without any help and here's something important that I want you to tell everyone nothing in this house should be moved. Everything should be in the same place the whole time." Tom stated. "Mari shouldn't fall trip or drop anything this is the only way for her to gain her confidence again. I trust you Ana to be able to do this."
"Of course Mr. Tom I'll start right away." Ana replied. "But won't Fu feel left out?"
"Fu will help Sabine with Adrienne so it should be fine and he can help you if you need it or if he wants to." Tom stated.
Ana nodded before going to Mari's room. "Hi Mari how are you doing?"
Mari sat up. "Hi Ana I'm doing alright."
"Mari your dad gave me the duty to take care of you and to help you be able to move around the house with as little help as possible." Ana stated. "That you'll be able to do things on your own and be able to take care of Adrienne. Are you ready to start?"
"We are going to start right now?" Mari asked surprised.
"Of course Mari there's no need to wait." Ana replied. Mari slowly nodded and Ana helped her climb up the stairs. Then she led Mari to the wall that led to the main living room. "Here's a wall do you feel it?" Mari nodded. "Okay now count the steps." While holding Mari's arm Ana led Mari to the couch of the living room as Mari counted the steps which was 7. "Extend your right hand to the side do you feel the couch?" Mari nodded.
Mari took three more steps and felt the carpet with her feet. "The carpet right?"
"Yes now take two more steps." Mari does with Ana's help. "Now turn to your right and take two more steps." Mari does what she is told to do and feels the coffee table. "There now you know the area of the main living room let's go back and practice it again."
Adrien went to Jake's clinic and Jake showed him all the results of the tests that were made on Mari. "Her case is much more difficult than I thought but I'll do anything in my power to cue her Jake no matter what."
"When it comes time for the operation count on me to be your assistant." Jake stated.
"Do you feel more confident to do it on your own now?" Ana asked Mari. "We have practice this three times now why don't you try on your own don't worry I'll be next to you the whole time."
"No not yet." Mari said nervously.
Ana sighs. "Fine Mari I'll do it with you one more time but you'll do it on your own next time. You'll never overcome your fear if you don't." Ana did the practice test with Mari one more time. "You did it Mari are you ready to do it on your own?"
"Yes I think so." Mari replied.
Ana helped her walk back to the wall before making sure everything was in its place and that nothing would make Mari trip or fall. "Okay start whenever you're ready." Mari took a deep breath before walking.
"Of course I know that name. I was told that he is the top ophthalmologist specialist known in America and Europe." Tom stated. He was at his study talking to Jake over the phone. "I was going to wait awhile to deal with this situation but I decided to do it now after seeing how desperate Mari is. Can you contact me with him Jake?...alright do you have his phone number?" Tom writes down the number Jake gave him. "You have no idea how grateful I am. I'll call him right now bye." Tom hangs up and dials the number. "...please with Dr. Yavapai."
Ana walked next to Mari as Mari counted the steps to the couch then to the carpet then to the coffee table on her own. "See I told you that you could do it Mari."
Mari smiled happily. "I can't believe that I did it thanks Ana for helping me."
"Don't thank me you did this all on your own you just needed some confidence." Ana replied.
At that moment Father Carlos came to the house to see Mari and they went to the garden to talk. "Ana Is helping me to be able to move around the house on my own."
"That's great dear if you want I can help you too." Father Carlos stated and Mari nodded.
"It has to do with my daughter who became blind after suffering two accidents." Tom told the doctor over the phone. "Yes all the tests were made on her but the doctors don't dare to operate her for how risky and delicated the operation is. I would be grateful if you took over her case...I see you won't be in Paris this week." Sabine walked in the study. "Oh that's perfect. I'll have all the results of the tests ready for you on Monday of next week. See you then bye." Tom hangs up.
"Who were you talking to?" Sabine asked.
"With the best ophthalmologist specialist that I could find." Tom replied. "He'll take over Mari's case and check the results of the tests on her."
"Well he operate her?" Sabine asked.
"That's still unknown he will have to review everything before making a decision." Tom replied. "He will determine if she can be operated or not."
"So tell me Marinette how have you been feeling?" Father Carlos asked.
"Well in the health department I feel fine but I am very depressed." Mari replied.
"What makes you so sad?" Father Carlos asked.
"Not being able to see Adrienne. I know that since the last time I saw her she grown a lot and now she can walk on her own and can speak a lot more." Mari replied.
"And has her father Adrien come to see her?" Father Carlos asked.
"Luckily no. Though that's best for me because I don't want to know anything about him." Mari replied.
"I think that you're wrong with that Marinette. I have seen him many times and I can assure you that he is suffering for what is happening to you." Father Carlos stated. "The last time I saw him was at the hospital."
"Only for pity." Mari mumbled.
"I didn't expect to see you so soon Jake." Adrien said to Jake who went to visit him.
"I know that you are interested in everything that has to do with Mari so I came to see you." Jake replied. "Tom Dupain called me to ask me for the best ophthalmologist specialist in hard cases. I gave him the number of the Dr. Yavapai the best ophthalmologist known in America and Europe."
"Do you think that Mr. Tom contacted him?" Adrien asked.
"I know that he did since I called him a few minutes ago and he said that Dr. Yavapai will see Mari next week." Jake replied. "He will review all the analysis and determine if he can operate her."
"Let's hope for that miracle." Adrien stated.
Tom and Sabine walked over to Mari and Father Carlos. "Dear we have great news for you."
"I did my promise to you. I contacted the best ophthalmologist known in Europe and America to take over your case. He will see you next week and review all the tests that were made on you." Tom added. "That ophthalmologist will determine if you can be operated or not."
"I hope so." Mari stated with a smile.
Soon it was Sunday night and Mari was laying on her bed thinking about the next day. "Tomorrow Dr. Yavapai will decide if he'll operate me. Tomorrow it will be determine if I'll ever be able to see or if I'll stay blind forever."
Meanwhile Adrien was laying on his bed thinking about the next day too. "Mari...tomorrow your destiny will be known...if you'll ever be able to see again or if you'll stay blind for the rest of your life...but don't worry because if they can't do it I will. I promise you that I'll bring the light back to your eyes."
"Before the doctor comes we want to talk to you." Tom told Mari the next day as they were waiting for Dr. Yavapai to arrive.
"Marinette we thought that it would be important for you to realize one thing." Sabine added. "This is only a test and there could be a chance for you to not get your sight back. We need to be realistic in case the results don't come out like we hope."
"I know that I will get my sight back mom. I won't be blind for the rest of my life." Mari replied. "Today is a big day for me the doctor will tell me that I'll be able to get cued. And I'll be able to see very soon I just know it."
"What are you thinking about Adrien?" Audrey asked Adrien who was spaced out during breakfast.
"Today is the day that the best ophthalmologist known in this country will analyze Mari's condition." Adrien replied. "Today he will determine if he'll operate Mari or not. If he says no than I'll take over and cue her myself."
Ana walked in Mari's room. "Mari Dr. Yavapai is here."
"That's great this seems like a lie to me." Mari said with a smile. "I'm sure that this doctor will tell me that I'll be able to get cued. You know last night I dreamt that I could already see and I was doing everything I used to do before becoming blind. Suddenly I was running down a pathway and a man was waiting for me at the end."
"Was it Adrien Agreste?" Ana asked with hope.
"I don't know if it was him since I couldn't see his face but we hugged and kissed each other." Mari replied.
"Mari I'm going to ask you a question and please answer me with honesty." Ana stated and Mari nodded. "If Dr. Yavapai operated on you and you got your sight back would you forgive Adrien Agreste?"
Mari nodded. "Yes Ana I would forgive him...I hate to admit it but if I got my sight back I would forgive him and maybe get back together with him. The blame on him for my blindness would disappear and there would be no reason for me to hate him."
Adrien was pacing around the living room as Audrey watched him. "Calm down Adrien."
"Dr. Yavapai must be checking Mari right now." Adrien replied.
"Well everyone in that house except Tom Dupain is still on your side why don't you call someone to see how everything is going." Audrey suggested.
"No it's still so soon." Adrien replied. "I have to wait a little more even if the wait kills me."
Tom's study was set up for Dr. Yavapai to do tests on Mari. He checked the results of the tests made on Mari before checking on Mari as Tom watched from the side. "Do you see any light?" He asked as he pointed a blue light at her eye.
"Well I...I think so." Mari replied and Tom's heart stopped in hope of what that meant.
