"So it all depends on that." Adrien mumbled. "I'll do it no matter what the cost is I'll talk to him. Just don't tell him that I was here today I'll go to see him to get his authentication."

"Alright I can do that the topic shouldn't be meantioned anyway with Mari fainting and all." Mrs. Bustier replied. At that moment there was a knock on the door. "Who is it?"

"Judge Dupain and my wife Sabine we came about Mari can we come in?" Tom asked. Adrien and Mrs. Bustier glanced at each other concerned.

"Don't let them in Mrs. Bustier." Adrien whispered. "If he sees me here he'll think immediately that I am to blame for Mari fainting and he won't let me operate her."

"One moment plesse." Mrs. Bustier told Tom and Sabine before looking at Adrien. "Don't worry I'll go out to receive them and you'll be able to leave calmly. I wish you the best of luck."

"Thank you Mrs. Bustier." Adrien replied. "You won't regret helping me. I onced failed Mari but I won't do it again."

Mrs. Bustier nodded and left her office closing the door behind her. "Sorry for the wait I was in the middle of a phone call. So you are Mari's parents?"

"Yes I'm Judge Tom Dupain and this is my wife Sabine Dupain-Cheng." Tom replied.

"We found out that our daughter got sick so we came to get her." Sabine added.

"Yes please follow me." Mrs. Bustier stated before leading them to the nursery room. Adrien waited a while before leaving the room.

Sabine and Tom walked in to see Mari and Nathaniel talking. "How are you doing dear? Your dad and I came to get you."

"Mom and dad." Mari said happily.

"The doctor injected her so her fever is gone and she's doing better." Nathaniel told them.

Later Adrien was driving to Tom's office when he got a phone call and he answered. "Hello?"

"Dr. Agreste it's Detective Kurtzberg." Detective Kurtzberg stated. "How are you?"

"I'm good thank you. What can I do for you?" Adrien asked.

"Can you come to the delegation I need to talk to you." Detective Kurtzberg replied. "It's about something very important for me."

"I'm sorry Detective Kurtzberg but I have something urgent to talk to with Judge Dupain right now but I'll go after I'm done talking to him." Adrien stared.

"Thank you Dr. Agreste really thank you I'll be waiting for you." Detective Kurtzberg replied.

Adrien hanged up. "I wonder why Detective Kurtzberg wants to talk to me. It sounded something very personal."

Detective Kurtzberg was looking at a picture of a woman. "I know that Dr. Agreste will help our son I just know it."

In Tom's office he was doing paperwork when Adrien just walked in. "What are you doing here? Leave my office immediately."

"Please listen to me Mr. Tom. I need to talk to you about Mari." Adrien replied.

"You have nothing to talk to me about my daughter leave." Tom said sternly.

"I won't leave even if you kick me out." Adrien replied. "I have been trying to see Mari for a long time but since I'm not able to I came to see you so you'll have to listen to me. No matter what I'll make you listen to me."

"Are you going to take advantage that I'm old and sick?" Tom asked.

"I came to beg you to give me your attention for a moment but you refuse why don't you push your stubbornness aside it won't take you anywhere." Adrien replied.

"My patience is fading Dr. Agreste." Tom warned.

"My patience faded a long time ago Mr. Dupain." Adrien replied.

"Fine say what you want to say immediately than leave." Tom stated.

"I want your autheration to be able to operate Mari." Adrien replied. "Let me bring the light back to her eyes."

"Forget about it." Tom stated. "Dr. Yavapai couldn't do anything and do you think that I'll let an intern touch her?"

"I'm not the type to brag but I won't let you call me an intern. I'm considered as the best ophthalmologist in Europe and America." Adrien replied.

Tom laughed. "As if don't make me laugh."

"I was in Boston for nearly a year specializing myself as a ophthalmological surgeon." Adrien replied. "I even worked for Dr. Yavapai and he offered me to work at the best hospitals in the United States. I rejected them because I just want to cue Mari the most."

"That's not true all you said are lies." Tom stated.

"You need to believe me and trust me." Adrien replied. "Do it for your daughter. It was for Mari that I became a ophthalmological surgeon to cue her. You need to give me your consent to operate Mari."

"I never thought that I would hear something so ridiculous. You will never operate Mari." Tom said sternly. "That's my reply now stop wasting my time and leave."

"I have brought the light back to many blind people so please let me bring the light back to Mari." Adrien replied. "Talk to Dr. Yavapai and ask him about everything we did together. I beg you to give me the autheration to operate Mari."

Mari was sitting in the main living room listening to what Nathaniel was telling her. "Your mom must be very proud of you Nathaniel."

"Oh I never told you Mari?... I'm ophan of a mother." Nathaniel replied.

"Oh I'm so sorry." Mari stated.

"Don't worry about it my mom died giving birth to me and I only live with my dad." Nathaniel replied. "We care about each other and he's the reason why I grew up so happy."

"That's great. I'm barely living with my parents in this house." Mari stated. "They lost me when I was born and they finally found me about three years ago but it has barely been a year since I accepted them. Luckily I had the love of the nuns then of Fu first. Aren't our lives similar?"

"Yes a lot." Nathaniel replied.

"That must be why you aren't just my teacher but my best friend too." Mari stated with a smile.

"You are just like the stars that give light when there's pure darkness." Nathaniel replied. "The last thing I needed to be happy."

"Oh Nathaniel you always say beautiful things even if I don't always understand them." Mari stated.

"I think that you're the star my mom sent me from the sky." Nathaniel replied. "To make sure that I wasn't alone."

"Don't you understand what the word no means Agreste?" Tom said sternly.

"I knew that it would be difficult for you to listen to me." Adrien replied. "That's why I brought the only thing that shows my capacity as an ophthalmological surgeon. What could be the cue for your daughter Mari. You'll find everything in here. What I did what I achieved and recommendation letters of the doctors I worked with. Many of them you should know because they once had Mari as a patient." Adrien handed him the file.

"I don't want to see anything." Tom stated. "The only thing I want is for you to get out from my sight and out from my daughter's life once and for all."

"If you're rejecting the file than you're rejecting me only because of your ego and it's not fair because Mari is the only one who's going to pay for this." Adrien replied. "It should be for the love of your daughter that you should allow me to operate her."

"Understand this I'll never let you get near my daughter again." Tom said harshly.

Mari was laying on her bed playing with Barx when Ana walked in the room. "HI Mari."

"Ana? I'm so glad to hear you." Mari replied with a smile.

"Yes I'm sorry I was busy the last few days." Ana stated. The truth was that Roland was trying to use her to take Eddie away from Edward and Roxie but she would tell Adrien and Roland would fail each time.

"It's okay we have a lot to talk about." Mari replied.

"I'm all ears how are your other friends doing?" Ana asked. "Like your friend Roxie."

"The poor thing is having a lot of problems she always calls me and based on what everyone else says she's sick of jealousy." Mari replied.

"Sick of jealousy how so?" Ana asked curiously making a note to herself to not tell Roland about this.

"Yea she gets jealous of any woman who gets near Edward especially with Elsa." Mari replied. "You met Elsa before who's husband died a while ago? She used to be Edward's girlfriend and Roxie keeps thinking the worst but there's nothing between ee them. Edward only cares about Roxie and Eddie nothing will separate that family."

A little bit later Alya went to visit Mari. "How are you doing Mari?"

"I'm good I just have a bit of a headache." Mari replied. "Oh and I'm going to a school for blind people to become a fashion designer."

"That's great to hear Mari." Alya stated. "With so many studies you'll become very intelligent. You have a cute dog what's his name?"

"His name is Barx." Mari replied. "He helps me when I'm out he's like my eyes."

"I have always read articles about guide dogs but I never thought I would meet one in person." Alya stated. "You are very lucky to have him."

"I know but what I'm most fortunate in is having a daughter like Adrienne." Mari replied. "She is a blessing from God."

"Can I see her?" Alya asked.

"Sure she's in the playroom next to my room." Mari said before they walked in Adrienne's playroom. "Adrienne look who's here."

Adrienne quickly went to Alya. "Aunty Alya."

Mari could feel that the vibe changed from happiness to sadness. "Are you okay Alya?"

"Yes I just wish that I was as fortunate as you to have a beautiful child as Adrienne." Alya said patting Adrienne's head.

"If both you and Nino love each other but can't have kids why don't you adopt?" Mari suggested. "You have no idea how many orphans there are in the orphanage eager to have parents and I'm telling you from experience when I was at the ophanage."

"It's not the same Mari." Alya replied.

"It's better since you'll be able to pick who you want. You'll be doing the best thing for a child without a family by giving them love a place to live and food." Mari stated

"I know that Nino would prefer a child of our own but adopting isn't a bad idea." Alya replied.

"Go to the orphanage and you will see how many children need a home of their own and how the nuns treat the children with kindness though there are too many children for them to take care of. If God didn't bless me with Adrienne I would have adopted a child I still might in the future."

Detective Kurtsberg was busy doing paper work when someone walked in. "HI dad." Detective Kurtzberg looked up to see Nathaniel. "What did you want to talk about?"

"I have something to tell you but could you wait for a while I'm waiting for someone to come." Detective Kurtzberg replied.

"I have to go to my friend I only left because you called me." Nathaniel stated. "So what's the surprise?"

"I'm waiting for a friend that I want you to meet." Detective Kurtzberg replied. "Though I think he got hold back with the other thing that he had to do. He's a ophthalmological surgeon specialist he does miracles with the new treatment that he discovered and I want to ask him to operate you."

"Where did you get that idea from dad?" Nathaniel asked. "I was born blind and I'll stay blind. Plus why would I want to see if I'll only see disappointment in the world."

"That's your opinion Nathaniel but not mine have you thought about how happy I would be if you were able to see for the first time in your life?" Detective Kurtzberg replied.

"I would have to learn how to live again dad." Nathaniel stated. "In a world that I never met before."

"Than you'll learn just like how you learned to live in this one." Detective Kurtzberg replied.

As the day went by Mari's headache was getting worst and she could barely deal with it. Not even the medication that the doctor gave her was working. It didn't help that she couldn't stop thinking about Adrien either.

"Fine Mr. Tom I'll leave but I beg you to think about it since I would do anything for Mari. You're taking away the only opportunity she has to get her sight back and my opportunity of bringing the light back to her eyes." Adrien replied before leaving the office.

Sabine walked in the office just passing Adrien as he left. "Why was Adrien here? I'm not surprised that he was here but knowing you - you're wrong about everything the hatred and anger is consuming you."

"I don't understand anything that you're saying but please don't continue." Tom replied. "Does no one understand that my duty is to protect my family?"

"Those bad feelings are harming everyone that is around you." Sabine stated.

"Please don't go on Sabine." Tom replied.

"I'm tired of your stubborness and ego Tom. If Adrien came to offer us his help than you should have accepted it." Sabine stated.

"I can't and won't I decide who I want in this office or not." Tom replied. "Agreste isnt accepted here my house or near my daughter."

"See you only think about yourself but not about your daughter." Sabine stated.

"Maya is upset since she thinks that Mari doesn't love her anymore." Ruby told Marc as they were at the pool in the Agreste mansion. "And since we can't take her to see Adrienne we can't convince her otherwise."

"This is going to far." Marc replied. "My uncle needs to change his attitude I'm going to talk to him."

"If you talk to him things might get more complicated." Ruby stated.

"Oh clear things up. Maya shouldn't be involved in the problems of this grown ups." Marc replied. "He needs to understand that the problems of the adults are only for the adults not for children to suffer from them. I'll talk to him and you'll see I'll convince for you three to be able to return to the house and to let his ego be pushed to the side so Adrien can operate her."

The next day the family doctor went to check on Mari and he decided it would be best if some tests were made on her. "These are the tests that should be made on her." He handed Tom the paper.

"We'll go tomorrow." Tom replied.

"Thank you for taking the headache away." Mari stated.

"No matter what the time is call me if the pain comes back." The doctor replied before walking away.

"No matter what the results are I know that I'll be fine since I have the love of those I care about." Mari stated with a smile and her parents hugged her.

That night Mari was laying on her bed and the headache came back stronger than ever. That headache was the start of something terrible that was happening to her and she nor everyone else knew it.

When Mari was finally able to go to sleep she dreamt of Adrien her Maya and Adrienne together as a happy family and she smiled in her sleep.

Meanwhile Tom and Sabine were in the second living room worrying about Mari. "I'm worry about Mari's recent faints and her headaches." Tom said outloud.

"I have the feeling that this is all because she feels that Adrien is back." Sabine replied.

"This is why I don't want him near her." Tom stated. "The only good thing is that we are taking her to the hospital tomorrow and we'll know the truth."

The next morning Mari got ready to go to the hospital before walking to her mom. "I'm ready mom we can leave whenever you want."

"We'll leave when your dad is ready." Sabine replied.

In no time everyone wanted to go with them to the hospital Nathaniel Fu and Marc. "We're only going to the hospital not to watch football." Mari stated.

"Thank you for worrying everyone but I think it would be best if only Tom and I go with her." Sabine replied. "I promise that we'll keep you updated in anything that happens."

"My mom is right we don't need to all go. I'm only going to go take tests because of my headache." Mari stated. "It's not like I'm going to die."

A few minutes later everyone watched the car drive off Tikki Nathaniel Marc and Fu watched worried about Mari.

'Go with God but please come back and don't dare leave those that care about you.'

'Don't take her away from me God now that you put her on my path.'

'We all need of her company and of her kindness.'

'We all need her smile and happiness. Sadness will only consume us if you take her away.'

Adrien walked into Edward's office. "Edward I need your help. Some tests will be made on Mari today but I don't know in which hospital and I need you to figure it out."

"I can't promise you anything since Mr. Tom doesn't let any of your friends get near her." Edward replied.

"That man is only harming his daughter I could cue Mari but he refuses." Adrien said frustrated.

"He'll never let you operate her. It's not fair but he's stubborn he won't let you get near Mari." Edward replied.

"There's something else that worries me. The fainting in the institution the headaches the mood swings I really hope it's not what I'm thinking." Adrien stated. "I don't want to say it because it frightens me and I don't want to make it true if I'm wrong right now."

"Calm down Adrien don't worry to much." Edward replied. "We can't be sure of anything without seeing the results of the tests made on her."

"I need to call Ana or Fu to see what hospital she's in." Adrien stated.

Jake walked in. "No need to ask anyone Adrien I know that Mari will take the tests in the Red Cross since I'm taking the tests on her as her doctor."

"I was waiting for you two." Audrey told Ruby and Marc after they came back from their lunch date. "I made a decision and I hope you agree with me."

"What is it?" Marc asked.

"It's time to put Tom Dupain in his place." Audrey replied. "We can't leave Mari alone right now. Even if he gets mad we'll be with Mari."

In the Red Cross all of the tests were made by Jake as her doctor and once he got the results he gave a copy to Edward as Mari was sent to a room.

Edward gave it to Adrien and he opened it and read it before he started to tear up.

Meanwhile Jake went to tell Tom of the results. "Jake what are the results." Tom asked anxious.

"I'll tell you what's going on with Mari." Adrien said sternly walking to them. "Mari is dying."
