Gate
"I see it...I see the gateway...it's in front of me..."
One looked at another. There were many of them. They were inside.
"Please...open up. Let me see. Let me see inside."
They glanced at each other and smiled. They began to push open the doors.
"Yes...thank you...show me the secrets...show me EVERYTHING!"
They let the man in. He looked to be around thirty or so. He was greedy. Greedy for knowledge.
"Give them to us." said they. "Give us the pieces..."
"What pieces?" asked the man. "What...what are you talking about?"
They reached for him. Their black arms grabbing at his limbs.
"Give us the pieces...the pieces of your body!"
"What the hell do you mean?" yelled the man. "No! Don't touch my body!"
They took away his left arm...then his right arm. His right leg...and finally his left leg.
"NO! I DON'T WANT THE KNOWLEDGE AT THIS COST!"

"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. But sometimes there are things that you cannot ever give up enough to obtain. There are some things...some times...that you can do naught but lose and die."
