Vegeta, the Proud Saiyan Prince
Adaptation Arc Part I
Volume 02: The Proud Saiyan Prince Lives on Earth!
Chapter 2: The Irritation of Prince Vegeta I
It has been a week since Bulma last saw Vegeta after he threatened her father to make a new and improved Gravity Room that can handle 300 times normal Gravity and she never saw him around the compound again. That's good though. He was one pushy bastard, she realized. His big attitude annoyed her completely. Since that day, she didn't want to see his smug, ugly face. He was a man of nightmares, a dangerous beast with such a terrible attitude. She absolutely hated that guy!
At least, that's what she kept on telling herself. Deep in her heart, she wondered how he was doing. Has he eaten his food? Was he even coming back to his room? Does he feel bored or lonely at all?
Bulma shook her head. Who cares about that stupid royal jerk anyways?! She was especially irked by his big attitude, they have lives to live too! She goes to school, her father goes to work, her mother was busy on her restaurant business. The haughty prince acted as if the entire world must revolve around him!
Strangely though, Bulma noticed that despite an entire day of activities, they still have enough energy to do the Saiyan Prince's endless demands. She wondered if it had something to do with his strange Pathifery ability.
Bulma found her father being enthusiastic instead of being traumatized by what Vegeta just did to him. He was glad to be able to meet an actual alien and the challenge to his intellect the Saiyan's impossible demands were giving him. Though Dr. Briefs was worried about Vegeta's insanity over training in such amount of gravity, he still did what the Saiyan wanted. Her mother couldn't also keep her own concern for their house guest. She hasn't seen him in a while so she is as worried as Bulma inwardly does.
Meanwhile, Vegeta was out of the compound most of the time. He would stay on a secluded wasteland the entire day 'training'. Since he didn't wish for the damn Earthlings to sense him, he decided to do 'image training' instead. By doing this kind of training within the depths of his mind, his body stood motionless at the top of a cliff for hours as if he was a statue. In the deep recesses of his mind played a furious battle against his swore rivals.
"I will surpass you. I will surpass you, Kakarot, I swear!"
Even so, this training wasn't enough. He knew he won't be able to reach his goal to become a Super Saiyan this way and he hated it. He was growing quite impatient. He knew that only the annoying woman's old man could create such a thing that can help him grasp the strength he wanted.
He needed to push the damn human inventor to finish the Gravity Room as soon as possible.
So that night, he came to look for Doctor Briefs. He found the old geezer outside the main compound. He saw that the damn scientist was building his Gravity Room outside, on a more private space in its own building. Doctor Briefs was busy tinkering with some bots when he entered the spacious room.
"So you're here." he said as he approached the busy inventor.
Doctor Briefs raised his eyes to meet his and asked, "Yes? Is there something I can help you with?"
Vegeta halted just in front of the old man and demanded imperiously, "How is the development of the Gravity Room?"
"As you can see, the basic construction is complete. The simulator has also been upgraded to your required specifications. I just need to finish these things here and modify the materials within the room, especially the floors and the walls so it would stand against your strength and the increased Gravity as well. I've seen how you have easily destroyed the old Gravity Room and I wouldn't want that to happen again as much as I could help it. This thing should be durable so we can prevent any accidents that may occur in case you overexert yourself."
Vegeta scoffed to himself. As if he should be worrying about any of that. He suddenly frowned, getting annoyed by that whining sound the pure black kitten perched on Doctor Briefs' left shoulder was making. He glared at the animal, which jumped off its owner and hid behind the inventor's legs.
"And how many more days before you finish?" Vegeta asked, not taking his eyes off the kitten.
"Give me an entire day then you may begin your training the day after tomorrow." Doctor Briefs responded.
Vegeta's dark eyes rose to gaze darkly at the old man before him.
"The day after tomorrow," Vegeta scoffed once again. He was getting impatient and annoyed. While he was here wasting his time doing nothing, he guessed Kakarot was somewhere training to get stronger.
Doctor Briefs shrugged, noticing the boy's growing ire. Feeling as if an ice cube was being rubbed upwards against his spine, he nervously gulped, wondering how he should explain without provoking the alien's brewing wrath. "Well, we needed more materials and I had to compute several formulas for the components of the walls and flooring. Bulma will be picking up the materials we ordered by tomorrow morning and we will be working everything out until the finishing touches tomorrow."
"The break of dawn after tomorrow then."
"Alright. I guess that's fine-"
"Enough of this. Would you shut up, shut up, shut up?!" Vegeta abruptly roared, making both Doctor Briefs and his kitten to jump once again. He angrily shoot a murderous glare at the stupid animal, completely irritated at its incessant whining. The poor, trembling cat kicked off the ground to its master's arms, looking like it was trying its very best not to make anymore noises.
"I have no idea whatever problem your stupid cat has but it's annoying me." Vegeta growled. He was inwardly planning to kill it there.
"Calm down, Vegeta-kun. Tama-chan's usually a quiet kitten." Doctor Briefs defended. "The truth is, he only started acting this way the noon you first arrived. About two hours before that intense catastrophic earthquake occurred." he continued while rubbing the fearful cat's head and spine, hoping he could comfort it.
"Oh really?"
Doctor Briefs nodded, "Uh-huh."
Vegeta's eyes narrowed in suspicion. He arrived on this planet at 11:43 three days ago. That was noon time. The earthquake the scientist was talking about was the effect of him powering up to his full power while fighting against Kakarot. (See: Volume 1 Chapter 4)
"Humans believed that some animals could sense upcoming danger and catastrophes alike and they flee in order to protect themselves." Doctor Briefs was saying.
"So you think your cat sensed that earthquake coming?"
"Not just Tama-chan, all the animals within the atrium as well. Their sudden change in behavior that day was odd it was worth a study."
Vegeta crossed his arms over his chest and frowned. He remembered the restless behavior of the animals when he arrived at the atrium three days ago. They were all crying out of terror but immediately quieted down when he entered. He had sensed their fear and felt their submission to his will. It really wasn't different. Animals, no matter what planet they're from, were more perceptive in nature. They could easily sense just how dangerous he actually is. He was the alpha, the top of the food chain. They could tell what he could actually do being the feared Legendary Destroyer of Worlds.
It makes sense why the cat was whining and trembling that way.
Vegeta pointed at the kitten and flipped his hand to beckon it to come to him. "Come here. Now." he suddenly ordered.
The small, black kitten hesitated at first, yet it knew better than making Vegeta wait. It kicked off its owner's arms and jumped towards the Saiyan Prince, who caught it effortlessly in his left hand. He glared at the still trembling kitten, their eyes staring at each other intensely. Doctor Briefs watched curiously, wondering what Vegeta was trying to do.
And for a very short moment, Vegeta's onyx eyes glowed silver and an ethereal light suddenly engulfed his form. His mind shutting down as if he was caught in a trance.
Doctor Briefs blinked in confusion but since that only happened in just a blink of an eye, he simply thought it was nothing.
"Calm down." Vegeta told the cat in a detached tone and Tama has indeed calmed down with one word from him.
Vegeta and Tama gazed at each other for almost a minute before the Prince finally said in his gruff tone, the silver glow of his eyes fading. "This one is incredibly special. He can be useful for you."
"Huh?"
"The cat's gifted with extrasensory perception and it's not just any ordinary ESP. His is on another level. He was able to tell exactly how dangerous I could become. It's the reason why he was whining all the time since I arrived on this planet. He knows I could easily destroy the Earth if I wanted to."
"Really?"
"Hm..." Vegeta nodded.
"Incredible how you can understand him. I wish I could do the same so I can hear whatever he was thinking. Sometimes, I get worried about Tama-chan without knowing what his problem was."
"Isn't he supposed to be talking to you? You are his owner after all."
Doctor Briefs chuckled. "Vegeta-kun. Tama-chan is a cat, cats don't talk."
Vegeta raised his eyebrows, "He can." he said.
Dr. Briefs stared back at him, confused. "What do you mean?"
The prince rolled his eyes, looking annoyed. "You don't believe me, do you?" he turned his dark eyes to glare down at the black kitten and imperiously commanded it as if Tama is his slave. "Hey you, stupid cat! Say something to your owner!"
Tama looked at Vegeta in incredulity with his round black eyes, then hesitated at first. He shrugged for a moment, out of fear before he turned his eyes to Doctor Briefs and opened his mouth.
"I'm sorry, Master, but His Highness is so scary I can't help it."
Bulma heard her father scream bloody hell and she hurriedly scampered towards her father's location. She highly suspected that it must be Vegeta's doing that her father was screaming in terror again. What has he done to her father now?! Is Vegeta going to kill him for not doing whatever he wanted?
She arrived at the warehouse half expecting to see Vegeta covered in her father's fresh blood as he glared down without any remorse at her father's dead body. What she saw wasn't that much different though. She found her father terrified as he looked at Vegeta with utter disbelief while the Saiyan calmly stood in front of him with a smirk, holding her father's cat in his left hand as a hostage.
"Papa!" Bulma called out breathlessly, causing the two men to turn their heads on her direction.
"Oh! Bu... Bulma!" Doctor Briefs responded with a shaking voice as he pointed at Tama-chan with a trembling finger.
"Vegeta! Just what do you think are you trying to do to my father again?! Are you out of your mind, you jerk?!" Bulma was yelling as she stomped her way towards the frowning Saiyan.
"Wait, Lady Bulma. Stop!" a sharp, child-like voice unfamiliar to Bulma's ears said. It stopped her from her tracks. Her brows furrowed in confusion as she wondered where the strange voice was coming from. It was child-like, and it sounded like bells.
"Who... Who the hell is that voice?" she asked her father, confused. She knew that the odd sound didn't came from either her father or Vegeta, unless that Saiyan jerk knows how to do ventriloquism as well.
Doctor Briefs pointed at the cat on Vegeta's hand. "It's Tama-chan!"
"What?!" Bulma gasped in disbelief. She jerked her head on Tama's direction. She scowled and then stared at Vegeta.
"What kind of trick are you playing now, Vegeta?" she demanded.
Vegeta growled and he lightly hurled the cat back to its owner. Doctor Briefs caught Tama easily. "I have no idea what you are talking about, woman."
"The cat! What have you done to Tama?!" she yelled.
"I just held him for a while and told it to calm down. It's been whining all the time and it's annoying me. I have no idea why it's not saying anything to its owner when it can talk-"
"Vegeta, cats don't talk!" she shouted at him.
"But this one can." Vegeta said nonchalantly.
Bulma stared at Vegeta as if he had grown a new pair of arms. "No! Vegeta! Animals do not talk! What the hell are you talking about?" she pressed.
Vegeta frowned at her, crossing his arms over his chest. "I don't get it. The almighty me as a Great Monkey can talk." he pointed out, causing Bulma to reminisce the image of his gargantuan beast form in her head. "Plus, the data told me that Earth was populated by humans, humanoids, anthropomorphic animals and-."
"Normal animals do NOT talk, Vegeta. Cats like Tama-chan do NOT talk."
"I just told you, he can. It just did. I have no idea why you are trying to deny it when you just heard it talk." Vegeta pushed. He was wondering why Bulma was being mad at him this way.
He turned to Tama, "Say something." he ordered.
"Yes, Your highness?" the cat shrieked.
Bulma looked at Tama in confusion. Did Tama just called Vegeta 'Your highness'?
Bulma put her palm over her face as she groaned lengthily. There's no telling him! There's no doubt this is Vegeta's doing, but he was completely unaware of it. How was she supposed to tell him that if he keeps on thinking that way, then she might wake up hearing all animals on Earth speaking the human language? Or worst... Have all animals bow down to him and call him 'your royal highness'? How was she supposed to change his way of thinking without revealing him the truth about his Pathifery powers?
"Honestly, I cannot fathom why you stupid humans are so surprised by your talking cat. Parakeens and parrots could do the same things. Earth has a talking dog for a King. So what's so strange about a talking cat? You humans sure are odd." Vegeta scoffed, shaking his head. "I couldn't care less about that though. Just make sure to finish the Gravity Room by tomorrow so I can begin my training by the break of dawn." he said, finally leaving the astounded humans and their now talking pet cat to themselves.
A frustrated Bulma sighed, turned to their pet cat and told her father that she'll borrow Tama for a while. A terrified Tama followed Bulma to her room.
"You'll tell me what Vegeta did to you, Tama-chan." Bulma told him.
"To be honest, even I am confused by your reaction, Lady Bulma." Tama spoke. "I was talking this way for a very long time now."
"No, you are not." Bulma pressed with a hard tone. "Up until now, you've been purring and meowing like most cats do."
"What do you mean?"
Bulma let out a sigh and she took her smartphone to find a video of cats meowing on Yuutube.
"Something like this."
Tama tilted his head, his eyes puzzled.
"Hmmm... I don't know. But that kitten wanted her owner to give her more milk. That cat was telling his owner how annoyed he is and to take the camera off his face. That one was squealing how much she loved being that close to her owner..."
Tama was literally translating cat language for her. Bulma doesn't want that.
She sighed angrily. "I'm not talking about that. What I meant is, up until now, you're just like... meeeeeoooowwww!"
"..."
Tama stared at her as if she had grown a second head. "I... I never thought of it that way. That's just horrible."
Bulma sighed again, hanging her head in defeat. This is such a headache.
"Vegeta must have done something subconsciously. I don't even know what that is, so you have to tell me something. What did he do to you?" she said.
Tama seemed to think for a moment. "His Royal Highness was so scary to begin with. I was completely terrified by him. I have sensed him coming to Earth three days ago and I know just how dangerous he could become not just for this planet but the entire Universe as well."
"You were able to sense him?"
"Yes. He has such a terrifying amount of destructive ki in him, though he was completely unaware of his full potential. He has not tapped into his hidden reserves yet."
"Are you talking about his Pathifery powers?"
"If you are talking about his ability to control reality itself then partly yes. But even without that power, he can still destroy this entire world with his ki energy. His 'Pathifery powers' would allow him to destroy the universe itself with his subconscious thoughts and emotions alone and he was completely unaware of it. I know, because I felt him use that power a few moments ago."
Just as she thought, Vegeta was the one who gave Tama the ability to speak human language and he doesn't even have any idea about it. He subconsciously just destroyed the world by doing this and recreated a new reality where Tama can speak the human language. Bulma began to wonder if anything else aside from Tama being able to do such a feat, was 'destroyed' and 'recreated' by Vegeta's strange powers.
Now, she's beginning to understand what Piccolo meant.
"So you're saying that you can feel it whenever Vegeta was using that kind of power?"
"Hm..." Tama nodded.
"Then next time, you'll have to tell me, okay?"
"Okay."
Bulma inwardly swore to herself that she would find a way to convince Vegeta that cats do NOT talk.
