Enchanted Forest

Many years ago

The grand palace of King Leopold and his wife Queen Eva was something she had never seen before. This was the first time she was in a palace without having to be completely silent. Following Master Montague through the long corridors of the tall spire like building as they made their way through to the grand hall.

Servant's busied themselves as they prepared for the Princess Snow's upcoming birthday, their King and Queens only child and heir to the kingdom. Her master had business with the King while they sailed on the Jackdaw and decided to visit the palace before they moved onto the next mission. She knew he and the King were good friends as they freely entered the palace and the guards didn't even give him a second glance as they sauntered into the grand hall and found Queen Eva in a red gown chatting to a couple of servants' before they scurried off with a respectful bow.

Queen Eva looked towards the large doors and a fond smile grew on the Queen's face seeing Leopold's oldest friend in the world. Amelia stood behind her master patiently as they stopped a foot in front of the Queen

"Your Majesty" Romeo Montague bowed to the Queen with Amelia copying his actions behind him

"Oh Romeo" Eva greeted the man as he stood up straight again, the pair quickly close the distance between them as they engulfed in a warm friendly hug. Once the pair parted Eva took hold of his upper arms "I didn't know you were coming"

"Officially I'm not even here, we were sailing nearby and decided to drop in"

"Leopold and Snow will be so happy to see you here" Eva glanced behind her old friend to see a young redhead behind him, letting go of the man she turned to her "And who's this young lady?"

Master Montague's eyes met her's as he motioned her forward with his hand. she stepped forwards for the Queen to get a closer look at her putting a supportive hand on her shoulder "Queen Eva may I introduce you to my apprentice Amelia"

"Your Majesty" Amelia bowed to the Queen respectfully before standing up straight

"Please call me Eva, any friend of Romeo's is a friend of mine" Eva insisted to the young woman

"Thank you You- Eva"

"Tell me, how old you are Amelia?"

"Nearly fifteen" Amelia answered with a comfortable smile

"Only a little older than my Snow" she commented before looking at Romeo "We must introduce them soon, I'm sure they'll be great friends"

"In time Eva, we can't stay long I have business with Leopold"

"Of course. I'll have someone bring you some food for the journey ahead"

"Thank you, Eva" he told the Queen before turning to Amelia "Go down to the horses and make sure their settled in the stables, then come and find me"

"Yes Master" Amelia gave the man a sharp nod before turning on her feet to respectfully bow at the Queen before turning to leave the grand hall leaving the adults watching her leave

"She looks like her mother" Eva observed to the man next to her

Romeo's joyfully smile changed into a sad smile at the thought of Amelia's mother "I know" he sighed "She becomes like her every day"

Eva turned her head at the Assassin "She still doesn't' know?"

"Its safer for her that way, Eva"

Eva took his forearm on comfort "Of course. Come I'll take you to Leo" the Queen directed him out of the hall only to be stopped by Snow White in a pink gown

"Father Montague!" Snow almost squealed in delight seeing her Godfather Romeo with her mother, she went to hug him only for him to hold out his arms to stop her, a look of hurt and confusion went through her eyes at her godfather at his actions.

Romeo gave the girl a smile as he knelt on one knee in front of her "Not so fast Snow, I don't want to ruin your lovely dress"

"But I'm just happy to see you, its been so long" she whined

"I'm happy to see you as well but I think your mother won't be happy if I mess up your dress"

"He's right you know" Eva chimed in with a sweet smile

"Do you like it?" Snow asked her mother

"Oh, my dear Snow. You are an absolute vision. You are going to be the talk of the ball, and not just because it's for your birthday" They hug briefly as Romeo stood up from the ground with a smile as he felt his heart tug inside his chest as the pair parted and Snow looked up at him

"Will you be here for my birthday?"

"I'm afraid not Snow" the young girl's face fell at this "I must meet with your father and get back to the Jackdaw as soon as possible, but I'll make sure to leave your present with your father" he sent wink at Snow before respectfully bowing his head at Eva and Snow before he departed

"Come" Eva motioned for Snow to follow her as they left the grand hall in the opposite direction to Romeo "I can hardly believe you're growing up so fast. Which reminds me… I have a gift for you. It was my mother's once, and her mother's before that. And soon, it will be yours"

Present Day

New York City

She couldn't stop looking up at the tall building that surround them as they walked behind Neal and Henry down the busy streets of New York City. Her younger self screamed out to climb up the tallest one she could see and jump, Feel the wind whip up her hair as she fell. She felt most at peace when she was free-falling through the air. Doing that felt more peaceful than the tension that remained between the adults and Henry.

He was still coming to terms with Emma lying to him about who Neal was to him and the last conversation that Rumple and Neal had still hadn't blown over. It made her miss all of Storybrooke's drama's.

As they walked, she noticed that Neal would glance back at her as he talked to his newly discovered son, it was distrustful, like he was waiting for her to do something. She remembered how he reacted to seeing the brotherhoods symbol on her silver ring that kept her from losing her memories. He didn't trust her.

"So, uh… You like pizza?" Neal asked Henry

"Yeah. Let me guess – you're going to tell me the best pizza's in New York, and I got to try it, right?"

"Actually, it's in the Kingdom of Damarian on the north shore of the Dragon Fields of Zorn" he tells his son teasingly "Nah, it's in New York. Here, let's get you a slice"

"So, you're really from there?"

"Yeah, I am" Neal answered Henry as the two of them enter the pizza shop. Herself, Emma and Gold are left outside by the father son duo awkwardly

"Do you think that we should…" Emma asked the pair with her not sure what to do

"If we were welcome, I feel confident an invitation would have been extended" Gold tells her as her face fell from the disappointment

"I'm sure he didn't mean it Swan" Amelia tried to reassure the blonde mother

"It's a sad truth that the people closest to us are the ones capable of causing us the most pain" Gold continued "That's our common ground, Miss Swan" he told her motioning to the three of them

"Guess my lying to him just caught up with me" Emma says out load

"Give him time. He'll forgive you" Gold chimed in

"Is that you projecting, your own hopes?" Amelia added to the man

"My son and I have some way to go" he tells the redhead

"We can see that" Emma answered for both women

Gold looked between the women with a proposition "I need you to speak to him. Both of you. Try and convince him to come back to Storybrooke with us"

"If I recall, there was only one favour I owed you, and I think I'm paid up" Emma tells him

"Me too old man" the redhead added dryly

"This isn't about me anymore" Gold went on "You'll do it for Henry"

"How do you figure that?" Emma inquired with the man

"Well, because if you don't, you're going to wake up one morning, and discover he's hopped on a bus back to New York. He ran away to Boston to be with you. He'll do the same thing for his father" he pointed out to her

"Until Neal lets him down – which he will. Father's always do" Amelia added thinking of her own

"It'll be a hard lesson, but then at least Henry will understand that I lied to protect him" Emma preached to the man glad to know that Amelia was on her side in all this

"Someone's beginning to sound a lot like Regina. I think the real reason you lied was to protect yourself"

"What's that supposed to mean?" the saviour asked the man

"From getting hurt again" he tells the blonde

"That's not happening" she protested

"You want a second chance with that man"

"What makes you think that?"

"The look on your face"

"You have no idea what…" however she was interrupted the trio as Neal and Henry exit the pizza shop and join them. Amelia was surprised when Henry handed her a paper plate with a slice of pizza on it. Emma looked hurt at Henry's actions but remembered that Amelia hadn't done anything.

"Here you go Lia" he said to her as she took the plate off him with a 'thank you'

Neal felt uneasy how friendly his son was with the Assassin "What are we talking about?" Neal asked the others as Amelia picked at the slice of pizza

"Emma, Neal wanted to show me the museum" Amelia saw the hurt in her eyes as he called her 'Emma; and not Mom "Do you think we can go back to the apartment and get my camera?"

"Yeah, well, I… Kids like culture, right?"

"Sure. Yeah, that's fine. You like the New York pizza?

"Yeah. It's delicious, cheesy, and doesn't lie" he tells his mother before walking off.

On the way back to her Master from the stables where their horses were being kept safely by palace staff her eye wondered out of the odd windows that looked more like dark vines than glass that led to the drop to the ground, she was itching to find a perch and jump, but Master Montague wouldn't be happy if he saw her jumping down their hosts home and Mentor Claudius would have a field day with her and would never let her live it down as long as she lived.

"Amelia!" a voiced called out to her which made her head snap up to see Queen Eva with a young girl in a pink gown and long dark hair.

Amelia stopped short of the Queen and bowed "Your Majesty" Eva gave the girl a tight smile at the manners that had been trained into her from Romeo at a young age, she knew Amelia wouldn't stop calling the Queen by anything rather than the formal.

"Amelia please meet my daughter, Princess Snow" the Queen indicated to the young girl in the pink dress.

"Princess" Amelia greeted the young girl with a deep nod. Snow curtsied politely to the red headed girl her mother had introduced her to.

Queen Eve knelt to her daughter height with her hands-on Snow's shoulders "Amelia here works with your Godfather Romeo, she's his apprentice"

Amelia saw Snow's eye widen in awe knowing the connection "Does that mean you're an assassin as well?" Snow asked Amelia in wonder. Amelia was stood up straight with her hands and arms clasped behind her as she answered the Princesses question

"Not yet Princess, but I'm learning to be one. Master Montague is teaching me"

Snow gave the red head a smile, happy with her answer "I love your hair Amelia" Snow gushed at the girl that was a little older than herself

"Thank you Princess I like your gown"

Eva smiled to herself at her daughters and Amelia's small interaction and stood up straight to speak to the young woman "Master Montague is currently with my husband but your more than welcome to eat something in the hall while you wait for him"

"Thank you for your hospitality Your Majesty" she bowed with her head to the Queen before looking at Snow "Princess" she repeated her actions at the young girl before heading towards the hall

Amelia only finished half her pizza slice before she dumped it into a trash can as they walked back to Neal's apartment. She didn't like the fast food in this realm, her cursed self always liked burgers at Granny's most lunchtimes. She disliked her cursed self; she was reckless and hot-headed the opposite of what she was taught to be.

She walked between Gold and Henry who headed the group and Neal and Emma behind her as she listened to the conversation in front of her. She felt a fifth wheel.

"So, should I call you grandpa, now?" Henry asked the older man

"Call me whatever you'd like" Gold told the boy. Henry looked back at the redhead

"Do you like New York Lia?"

"I do, it has its charm" she answers him

"I bet you could climb anything right?"

Amelia chuckled at Henry's enthusiasm "Maybe" she answered with a small smile. Henry suddenly stopped to walked back to his parents as they neared Neal's apartment building

"So, Neal, do you think we can take the subway?" Henry asked the man

"Yeah. Sure, of course. Let's go get that camera" They arrive at Neal's apartment Gold held the door open for the Neal and Henry to lead them into the building

"Come on" Henry rushed his father as he waited for Neal to let him in the building

"Here. I got it" Neal tells his son unlocking the door. He and Henry head for the apartment, while Amelia, Emma and Mr. Gold stay behind.

"So, uh, did you talk to him?" Gold prodded at the blonde once they were alone

"He said it's complicated" she told him

"Oh, I see"

"Well, maybe he just needs some time. I don't know" Emma tells the man as Hook suddenly appears from no=where knocking both Amelia and Emma to the ground, her head falling short of the wall, the sudden movement jarring her still bruised ribs as she felt the room spin, and her vision blurring from the pain that erupted.

All she could hear was Hook's voice as he pinned the Dark One to the metal bars

"Tick tock" Hook seethed down at the Dark One "Time's up, crocodile. You took Milah, my love, my happiness. And for that, I now take your-" he could finish as a rush a red hear rushed past Gold vision as Amelia had tackled him away from Rumplestiltskin onto the floor straddling him on the chest

"Widow" he growled up at the red head on top of him

"You shot me. Bad move" she told the pirate before sending a heavy fist into his face knocking him out instantly as Emma came back to her senses seeing Amelia straddling a now unconscious Hook and Gold who is slumped on the floor.

With the pirate now consistence her eye's wonder to the old man slumped on the floor. Climbing off the man she crawls over to the man she had known for the last decade or so as she hunted down her former brother's one by one

"Rumple?" she call's out to the man her voice straining. Ignoring the pain on her side.

"Gold, are you alright?" the blonde asks joining the redhead on the floor

Hearing the commotion downstairs Neal rushes down the staircase to see the scene before him

"What the hell is going on?" Neal found his father on the floor with Emma and the assassin fussing over him

"One of your dad's enemies found us" Emma informs her ex

"Hook" Neal whispered seeing the man on the floor

"You know him?" Amelia asked the man as Emma checks Mr. Gold's wound. When he pulls his hand away, there is blood on his fingers. Amelia felt her stomach drop at the sight. Nothing made him bleed, she knew that for a fact.

"Papa?" Neal said in concern seeing the blood. Amelia stood from the floor seeing Hook starting to stir from the corner of her eye.

"Get him to the apartment" The assassin order's the pair getting on her feet fighting the wave of dizziness the tried to halt her, stepping over Hook's body "I'll deal with Jack Sparrow" she winced at the pain in her side as she grabs the top of Hook's jacket attempting to move him across the floor away from Gold.

"Lia" Emma asks the red head seeing the Assassin in pain

"Go!" she snaps at the blonde "Get him out of here" she firmly tells the woman, kicking open a closet door leaving Henry's parents get the man upstairs.

Amelia quickly ran up the stairs to Neal's apartment to see the older man slumped on the couch as Emma and Neal fussed over his injury and Henry hovering in the background

"Found a storage room and locked our stab-happy pirate in there" Amelia announced to the group as she entered the apartment holding her side. He was heavier than he looked. She pulled out the papers she found on him as she was tying him up tightly in the closet "Shouldn't be causing anyone else any problems. He had a map on him. It looks like he sailed his ship here"

"How'd he get a pirate ship into New York?" Neal asked the red head as Emma offered the redhead a couple of painkillers, she had found in the apartment with a small glass of water.

"It's cloaked" Emma answered as she walked over to a very worried Henry who was clutching his grandfather's cane "Don't worry. He's not going to hurt any of us"

"But is Mr. Gold going to be okay?" Henry asked the adults. Amelia shot back the painkillers into the back of her throat.

"Henry, he's going to be fine" Neal tried to reassure his scared son before heading to the small kitchen. With the adults not looking Henry approached his injured grandfather.

"Mr. Gold, are you alright?" he asks the man only to have the front of his jacket grabbed by the older man pulling him towards him

"You stay away from me" Gold lowly tells the boy making unaware that the trained assassin had heard what he had told the boy. Snapping her head around she saw Henry in the old man's hands. "You caused this. You brought us back here. You did this!" Gold continued. Two long quick strides across the apartment the redhead was there in a flash pulling Henry away from the older man hands, quickly handing him off to his concerned mother who had over heard his words as well.

"What's your problem?!" the redhead angrily snaps at him "He's eleven" she harshly tell the man as she goes to unbutton the top of his dress shirt to see the damage that Hook had left.

"I'm sorry" Gold panted in pain with his eyes closed "I'm so sorry Juliet" he whispered making Amelia freeze as that name left his mouth, Neal pushed the assassin out of the way as he returned with a wet cloth and looked at the wound

"Oh, man… We got to get him to an ER, fast" Neal told the women. Amelia had to shake her head to refocus on the task at hand

"It's pointless" Amelia told the pair as she looked at the wound as it was pussing out yellow and green

"What the hell is that?" Emma asked out-load

"It's poison" Amelia informed the saviour recognizing the symptoms

"It's one of Hook's own making" Gold continued "There's no antidote in this world. It's… It's not from here"

"Hey, hey, hey, hey. There's got to be some way we can save you" Neal pleaded with his father

"There is, there is" Gold panted out

"Storybrooke. There's magic there now. We need to get him back" Emma informed Neal

"I'll get a car" Neal suggested

"No, no, no. There's not enough time. We need something faster" Gold tells the group "The Captain's ship"

"The Jolly Roger instead of a car?" Emma queried

"It's the fastest vessel in all the realms" Amelia rolled her eyes at the statement accompanied with a small scoff

"Well, that's great, but who's going to captain it, since the only guy qualified wants you dead?"

"I can do it" Both Neal and Amelia answered the blonde. Neal and Amelia looked at each other in surprise having answered the question the same.

"Bae?

"Yeah. I can do it" Neal tells his father.

"We can do it" Amelia corrected the man

"You know how to sail a pirate ship?" Emma questioned her ex

"Yeah. I do" he shrugs at her

"Lia?"

"A ship is a ship" she shrugged at the blonde

Romeo found his apprentice in the grand hall after the doctor interrupted his meeting with Leopold with grave news about his wife, she was sat in a chair with a plate of fruit and bread in front of her with a cup of drink, she nibbled at the bread as she didn't notice his return.

"Come we need to go" Master Montague greeted her with as her head snapped up to see her master with a serious look on his face

"Master?" she asked with him in confusion as she stood up from the table placing the cloth napkin on her plate

"The Queen is ill" it was all he had to say as she followed him out of the grand hall and down the long halls "the doctor doesn't think she'll see through the night" he told her in a low voice not wanting any of the staff to overhear.

"What can we do to help?"

A ghost of a smile flashed on his face hearing the girl's eagerness to help other's. It was a good quality that would help her in the future if he any of the hope of the Brotherhood changing it's view on the outside world. It had been too self-involved for too long, and was slowly becoming too stubborn for it's own good.

"Nothing I'm afraid, not even our tonics will work on her"

"Like with my mother" she voiced. His heart skipped at Amelia's comparison.

"Yes he gulped as they continued to hurry down the halls as they headed back to their horses. He couldn't be there when she died, he couldn't be reminded of losing her again. Losing Juliet was the worse thing that had happened to him. He wasn't about to hang around and watch one of his oldest friend lose the woman he loved the same way he did and be able to do nothing to stop it.

Amelia sat on the coffee table in front of the ailing man with Emma sat next to her waiting for their next move to get them and the old man to the Jolly Roger. Finding the ship wouldn't be a problem, she'd be able to find it with her sixth sense, but with no car to transport the ailing man, they were at an agonizing standstill.

She felt the anxiety of the situation grip her as the man groaned out in pain from the poison that harmed him. She swore she would do more that cut off anther limb of Hooks if anything happened to him.

Emma sat next to the red head watched the woman closely as she stayed near Gold as felt the full effects of the poison, she had seen this concern for Gold before in the airport where Amelia helped him through the metal detector. There was care there, mixed in with whatever else there could be having to work for the Dark One year after year.

The blonde became distracted by Neal on his phone in the small kitchen "What are you doing?" she asked her ex from the table

"Getting us a car"

"I thought you were suddenly a pirate and were going to take a ship" Emma retorted

"Yeah, well, we still got to get his ass to the ship" he replied

"So, you know Hook?" Emma pried into the man's past

"It's a long story. Short version, is this world wasn't my first stop when I left home"

"No?"

"If it was, I'd be a couple hundred years old by now" Neal's phone started to chime "That should be our ride. Hang tight" Neal answers his phone and leaves the room. Henry then enters from the bedroom with Emma's cell.

"Emma, you need to see this" Henry told his mother

"What is it, kid?"

"It's a text from David and Mary Margaret. You need to read it – now." Henry hands the phone to Emma. She reads the text from Mary Margaret.

"Bad news, Gold" she starts

"What, worse than incurable poison?" he retorts

"I don't know. You tell me. You got a dagger hidden somewhere in Storybrooke that's the source of all your power?" a concern brow rose on the redhead's face at the mention of his daggar.

"Get to your point"

"Cora's after it" Emma told him "The only way to stop her, is have David and Mary Margaret get to it first"

"Yeah, let Cora try"

"She says that she's after an apple as well" she reads becoming confused at the mention of a fruit

"Apple?" Amelia questioned the blonde

"Yeah" she answered slowly at Amelia's sudden interest after a fruit "You know what it is"

Amelia turned straight to the old man with a stern look that even Emma would never want to be on the receiving end of "Please tell me you didn't bring it in the curse with you"

A shaky smile graced his smile "Of course I did, you think I would let kind of power alone would you" Amelia's nostrils flared up in anger and annoyance as she gripped her knees with her fingers so that she wasn't tempted to wring them around his neck.

The concern and worry the assassin had for the Gold vanishing, replaced with a look that could kill

"Amelia what are you talking about" Emma brought her thoughts back from picturing killing the man there and then

"It's something if Cora got hold of would mean all our end not even the saviour could stop" she told the blonde stepping up putting distance between her and the foolish man on the couch

"You can't seriously be willing to risk this. Not with your son coming back with you to Storybrooke" Emma tried to appeal to the man

"Miss Swan, that dagger has not left my possession for centuries. It's not about to now. And so long as Miss Montague holds the key to The Apple, she won't be getting it anytime soon"

Emma switched her place so that she sat next to Gold on the sofa as Henry took Amelia's "Here's the thing. You're dying. And right now, we are your best hope. Time's come for you to start trusting someone. And, if I were you, I'd start with family"

The Assassin stood next to the saviour as she phoned her father about the location of the dagger, he had finally given up to the women. It was in one of the clock hands in the clock tower. In plain sight. Even she was impressed. Emma's eyes landed on her as David replied after he gave him the information is needed

"He's asking about the Apple" she told the redhead handing her phone over to Amelia. The assassin snatched it out of her hand and put the phone to her ear

"David?" she said into the phone

"Amelia, do you have any idea what this Apple thing is Cora is after" he asked the redhead

"Yeah I do. David if Cora gets her hands on it, we're all in big trouble. Not all the light magic in the world could stop Cora if she managed to gain control of it" Emma's eyes widened in shock at her words, knowing just how powerful the sorceress was

"What?! what do mean by that?" she heard the panic in his voice

"Don't worry she can't get to it I have the key to unlocking it, she can't even touch it" she tried to reassure the prince

"Are you sure?"

"I didn't even know it was in Storybrooke until the old man confirmed it. But its safe as long as I have the key"

"Okay, talk to you soon" and he hung up

"So, this Apple is pretty serious huh?" Emma asked the assassin hearing her end of the conversation

"You have no idea"

Amelia had noticed Emma had suddenly gone quiet since Neal brought the car to the apartment building and helped Amelia bundle the old man into it. Finding the Jolly Roger was as easy as Amelia had predicted.

On the ship Emma helped Gold down the steps to the crew quarters as Amelia helped Neal pull the ships anchor from its place on the sea bed and prepare for un-docking, She tried to talk to him but blatantly ignored the redhead until she got him alone at the wheel

"Look whatever problem you have with me you need to leave it in New York"

"I don't have a problem with you. Only the Brotherhood you come from"

"Whatever it is forget about it until we get your father home again" a

"One of you brothers abandoned me when I needed his help" he told the redhead "He left me to rot when I was a kid"

"That's not us, they were many things, but they would never abandon someone in need" she told him "Especially a child"

"Then I guess you don't know them very well then" at that Neal back to the wheel as he guided them back towards Maine, leaving the redhead wondering what ever happened to him to make him hate the Brotherhood with such spite. But more importantly. Who?
