One month after her birthday, Amy Farrah Fowler begins to sense that something is off. Last night's dinner didn't seem to agree with her, which in itself wasn't too unusual, given that The Golden Dragon probably should have been shut down years ago, but this was no ordinary bout of food poisoning. For the past week, she'd found herself nodding off while typing up lab reports, and that morning she had noticed a tinge of pink in the sink after brushing her teeth, despite being regularly praised by her dentist for her diligent flossing.

Amy checks the calendar on her phone and realizes that her monthly cycle, which up until now had arrived every twenty-eight days like clockwork since she was fourteen, is two days behind schedule. A quick consultation with her two best friends that evening over a bottle of wine (water for Amy, just in case) confirms her suspicions.

"You remember how sick I was with Quinn, don't you?" Penny reminds Amy, bouncing her daughter on one hip and sipping from her wine glass with the other hand. "That whole trip to Sweden, I ate the most amazing food and couldn't keep any of it down!" Penny pouts.

Bernadette nods. "General Tso's chicken hasn't made you sick before, so why would it now? You should take a pregnancy test," she urges Amy.

"I still have a stash in my bathroom if you want to borrow one of mine!" Penny offers.

Amy frowns. "How does one borrow a pregnancy test?"

"You can pay me back by babysitting," Penny assures her. "If you are pregnant, it'll be good practice. Now, please, go take the test! I really wanna know!" She squeals.

Amy obediently goes into Penny's bathroom and pulls a pregnancy test out of the bottom drawer. Surprisingly the test hasn't yet expired, so she quickly takes it and goes back to join her friends.

"What do you think Sheldon's going to say if it's positive?" Bernadette asks.

"I don't know!" Amy replies. "He has warmed up a lot to the idea of having kids lately, especially since Quinn was born."

Amy smiles fondly at the memory of watching her husband hold his best friend's daughter for the first time. Sheldon had evolved a fair amount over the past year, and while his interactions with the Wolowitz children were still fairly lukewarm, Quinn Hofstadter had quickly captured her godfather's heart in a way that anyone who knew Sheldon once thought to be impossible. While he still objected strongly whenever Penny referred to him as "Uncle Shelly", no one could deny that Quinn had brought out Sheldon Cooper's soft side.

"Sheldon is a natural with babies," Penny admits. "I mean, who would have thought? He can get her to sleep faster than I can! Damn, that Soft Kitty is effective!" She mutters, taking another sip of wine.

When the timer on Amy's phone goes off, she braces herself before returning to the bathroom, still unsure of which of the two potential outcomes she's hoping for. Clearly, her friends were both hoping for her to finally join them in the solidarity of motherhood, but Sheldon, given his anal tendencies, would probably be none too pleased by the notion that their first child had been conceived without meticulous timing and consideration to ensure the birth occurred at an optimal time of year that didn't interfere with any comic conventions or Star Wars movie premieres.

Amy takes a deep breath and turns the knob once again on Penny's bathroom door. When she goes in to look at the test, Amy's true feelings are revealed when she lets out a sound rivaled only by her reaction to receiving a tiara from her husband years earlier.

"I'm pregnant! I'm pregnant! I'm pregnant!" She squeals, running back out to the kitchen.

"Aw, Sweetie, congratulations!" A tearful Penny exclaims. She wraps Amy in a hug and Bernadette joins in.

"I can't believe you're about to have a Baby Shamy!" Penny gushes.

"You're going to be a great mom, Amy!" Bernadette assures her friend. "And Sheldon will be… well, at least the kid will be smart!"

That night Amy sits in bed, nervously twiddling her thumbs as she waits for Sheldon to join her. When he finally comes out of the bathroom, Amy interrupts his latest rant about the delayed third season of The Mandalorian to break the good news.

"Sheldon, there's something I need to tell you, "She begins hesitantly. Sheldon says nothing, merely nodding for her to continue. "Sheldon - " she takes in a sharp breath. "I'm pregnant."

Sheldon gasps. "Amy… that's wonderful!"

"Really?"

"Well, of course! You and I have always talked about wanting to combine our DNA to produce the ideal offspring, and now we've done it! Why wouldn't that be good news?" he asks.

"Well, we weren't exactly trying to produce an offspring yet," she explains.

Sheldon scoffs at his wife. "Oh, Amy! You're a biologist! You of all people should know that any time coitus occurs, there is a small probability of procreation no matter how well protected you are."

Amy smiles. "Well, I'm so glad that you're happy! But do you think that we're ready for this, Sheldon? Being a parent is a huge responsibility!"

"Psh! If Penny and Leonard can do it, and Howard can do it with two of them, how hard can it be?!"

Amy laughs and gives her husband a kiss. "I love you, Sheldon. There's nobody else I would rather procreate with!"

Sheldon puts on his koala face, except this time he's thinking of Amy, not the koalas. "I love you, too, Amy, and I can't wait to raise the ideal offspring with you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go call my mother and tell her the good news. Oh, she's going to be so excited to be a MeeMaw again!" Sheldon gushes as he hurries out of the bedroom.

Amy lays her head on her pillow and smiles. That went way better than she expected.

Amy's pregnancy is uneventful, but by the end of it, she's extremely grateful that the building's elevator is fixed. Her feet are far too sore and swollen from standing in the lab all day to climb the four flights of stairs it used to take to get to her apartment. When she gets off the elevator one day, Sheldon is standing in the hallway waiting for her.

"Amy, Thank God, you're finally home!" he exclaims.

"Sheldon, what's wrong?"

"Oh, nothing! I was just going through our list, and I think I finally found the perfect name for our baby," he declares.

"What is it?" Amy asks eagerly.

"Ada Marie Fowler-Cooper. For Ada Lovelace, Madam Curie, and her mother, Amy Farrah Fowler. The three most intelligent and influential women I know."

"Sheldon, it's perfect!" Amy gushes as she wipes a tear from her eye. "But won't your mother be disappointed that we didn't name the baby after her or your MeeMaw?"

"Oh, she'll get over it! And I'm sure my sister will name a baby after her eventually. Lord knows she'll have many more chances to at the rate those two are going!"

Ada Marie Fowler-Cooper is born exactly two weeks later on September 12, 2021, after twenty hours of labor. Once again Sheldon surprises everyone with how nurturing and attentive he is towards Amy during the whole ordeal. Both Penny and Bernadette were prepared to step in and support Amy in the event that Sheldon reverted to his old tendencies and refused to even be in the room as Amy gave birth, but when the time comes, his fatherly instincts finally kick in, and Sheldon spends the entire labor right by Amy's side, singing Soft Kitty and stroking her hair. When the baby is finally born, Amy sees a look in her husband's eyes that she's never seen before. She later describes it as "his koala face times one thousand" when her daughter eventually asks why her father refers to her as his little koala bear.
