A/N: Instead of doing it from one person's perspective I'm either going to be doing the narrator's point of view or I might do it from the other characters, but I feel like you should have a little insight into the other characters.
On a cold day during the winter, the village was quiet, and the woods remained scary. There was yet another dead body in the middle of the village. As usual, everybody would gather around to see who the wolf's victim was. Rogue Cheney was standing right next to the other huntsmen who gazed upon the dead body of one of their fellow huntsmen, Macao Conbolt.
His son and ex-wife were standing on the side shedding tears as the doctors had to take him away. It pained Rogue to see the families of the men he worked with grieve for their lost ones. He would rarely even come to the scene.
Once Macao's body was gone, the people slowly started to disappear. He just sighed and left towards the bar. Usually, he would head to the woods and keep watch, but today he was going to get a drink. With all that was going on it wouldn't hurt to have a little alcohol in his system.
He enters into the bar that belonged to the most alcoholic family in the village; the Clive family. Guildarts Clive worked part-time as a business owner of his bar and as a huntsman. His daughter Cana and one of her close friends, Mirajane had worked at the bar. Mirajane had worked at multiple places that needed waitresses. His daughter would drink nothing but alcohol.
You would think the girl had a problem, which she did, but she was able to hold her liquor. Rogue sat down at one of the stools as Mirajane happily approached. "I'm surprised to see you in here Rogue, what can I get you?" she cheerfully asked him.
"I'll take some rum," he simply said as Mirajane told Cana what to make. She served him a glass of rum as he took a couple of sips. Rogue wasn't the type to drink all the time. "So how have you've been since, you know?" Mirajane sadly asked referring to Lucy and her grandmother. Rogue hadn't told anybody about Lucy being alive for she didn't want anybody to worry about her.
"It hasn't been easy," he simply said taking another sip of his rum. Mirajane just looked down at the ground and shook her head. "You know it's kinda sad that the wolf had gone after her and her grandma. I'm still surprised it's alive since they had burned the house down," Cana said jumping into the conversations as she was organizing the bottles.
"The wolf can't be affected by certain attacks. It will heal itself back to its original form," Rogue said making Mirajane and Cana look at him confused. "How do you know?" Cana asked. Rogue didn't answer her question. "Rogue how do you know the wolf can do that?" Mirajane re-questioned him.
"One, I've seen it heal itself, and two, it would have died in Lucy's burnt house, but it didn't," he finally answered. "Interesting, but I heard a couple of months ago the wolf can be disguised as anyone," Mirajane said shivering a little bit. Rogue happened to look outside to see Levy's boyfriend greeting her with a kiss.
He clenched onto his glass just watching the scene. "Yeah, they said we should watch out to who we associate ourselves with," Cana said while Rogue was impatiently tapping his foot on the ground while still watching Levy and her boyfriend. "We should, but I think it's kinda strange that the wolf would be a human. I've never seen anybody around here that has wolf traits," Mirajane said thinking about it.
"Levy did tell the detective that the wolf had red bloody eyes, sharp pointy teeth, and black fur," Cana said describing the description. Rogue had to look closely at the guy to see he matched all those traits in human form. Levy and he seemed to be leaving the scene and he couldn't just let them go.
When Rogue had told Lucy the description of Levy's boyfriend she was heartbroken. Lucy was the only person who knew what the wolf looked like from head to toe. The way she would talk about him would make his blood boil. He would sexually and emotionally abusive to her. The worst part was she couldn't leave him. She didn't want to put anybody in danger, especially her unborn child that could come at any second.
Rogue had tipped Mirajane and Cana and got up to leave. He ignored Mirajane when she told him: "You forgot to finish your drink," but he didn't care. All he cared about was Lucy and the village's safety. He had to be unnoticed by the mysterious man so he kept himself at distance.
It was odd for him because he had never seen the guy around here. The village had a small number of people that lived in the area. As much as Rogue stayed in the woods and didn't go into the town as much, he did remember the people's faces. There would rarely be new faces that appeared in the village because rumors would be heard from outsiders.
The only people that would come to the village is merchants when they wanted to sell something. Other than that no one would step foot inside their village. Especially when you had the mysterious woods to scare you off.
Levy and her boyfriend had entered the library where he had to wait a couple of minutes to enter. He didn't want to blow his cover so he kept it on the down-low. Levy's family had a huge library full of books that would come in every three months. Her job was to keep the books organized on the shelves.
She and Lucy would come here almost every day to do nothing but talk, read, and gossip. He heard Levy's giggles upstairs where she and Lucy would relax at. There was a hidden spot behind the shelves that no one would go to. Rogue had distanced himself a couple of shelves away from where Levy and her boyfriend were at.
He had to sit on the ground and listen to them galocher each other. It was a disgusting sound to hear from both of them. He could also hear Levy moaning a little bit which made him shiver. He was glad when they finally stopped having contact with each other.
"So Gajeel what made you want to come to see me today?" Levy seductively asked him. Gajeel...why did his name sound so familiar to Rogue? It's like he heard it before but at the same time, he hasn't. He couldn't even recognize the guy to remember his name. It was odd that he remembered a name but not a face.
"Well if you must know, I came here to borrow a book and work a couple of shifts here," he simply answered with his husky tone. The way his voice sound made Rogue feel uncomfortable. "My parents do need help carrying some new books that came in. My dad is not as muscular as you are," Levy offered still using her seductive tone.
She wasn't wrong on that part. Levy's dad wasn't as muscular as you would expect. He was a very slender man that had a geeky style. Most of her traits she had picked up from her dad. "Thanks for the compliment Shrimp," he said as Rogue cringed at the nickname he gave her.
"So what book are you looking for today?" she asked him as Rogue could hear her getting up off the ground. He was hoping she wouldn't come past the area he was in. "I'm looking for a baby book," he simply said. He heard Levy gently moving books around from where she was at.
"Why do you need a baby book?" Levy didn't sound too happy when she asked him. She was yet confused about why Gajeel would want a baby book. "I need it for research purposes," Gajeel simply said. "Really... you don't happen to be having a child, do you?" Levy sternly asked still making Gajeel unbothered.
Levy couldn't get a sign from Gajeel that he was hiding something from her. It shocked Rogue that Gajeel wanted a book about babies. "It's about animals, not humans," Gajeel said correcting her causing Levy to be taken back. "Oh, for a second I thought you had a pregnant wife and I was your side piece," Levy said laughing. "No, I don't have a wife," Gajeel said laughing along with her.
What Levy didn't know was that Gajeel indeed had a baby and a trapped woman. Rogue didn't like how Gajeel was lying to Levy about Lucy. If only she knew what Gajeel was like. "By the way would it be okay if I also get Beauty and the Beast?" he asked as Levy didn't say anything. She was quiet and Rogue couldn't fully see her facial expression. However, he could read her body language.
"Is something wrong?" Gajeel asked. "No it's nothing, it's just that before my best friend died, that was the last book she was reading, she didn't even get to finish the book. Growing up she always loved the fairytales about princesses and their lovers. She had always wished she had a happily ever after with one of the guys in the village," Levy sadly said making both Gajeel and Rogue perk their ears.
"Which guy?" Gajeel immediately asked. He was lucky that his tone went unnoticed by Levy. "You might not know him, but it's the guy that always stays lurking in the woods," she said. "Isn't that almost every huntsman in the village," Gajeel rhetorically asked.
"Not exactly, it's a huntsman, but he's always in the woods. I don't think the guy ever takes a break from trying to kill the wolf. While most of the huntsmen stay near the village, he always goes beyond the limit. The men he works with say he has gone almost on the other side, just to find the wolf," she said laughing at the last part.
"If you ask me, I have a feeling that he's the wolf. They say that the wolf could disguise himself as anybody. I just know he killed Lucy because he's the only person that would patrol around her area and he fits the description: he has reds bloody eyes and black hair. Everybody in this village is idiotic because they didn't suspect he did it," she said with a lot of pain in her voice.
"Interesting! I have to take my leave early," he mumbled under his breath. "Umm okay, will you back?" Levy asked him. "Sure, I'll come back to move the boxes," he said about to take his leave until Levy grabbed his wrist. "Gajeel when will I ever be able to come to your place...I'm tired of sneaking around," she said sounding sad with her head down.
"I'll do it when the time is right," he said obviously lying to her, but she didn't catch it. She was head over heels in love with Gajeel and she had believed anything he said to her. Rogue was afraid that Gajeel would see him while he was leaving but thankful he didn't.
He looked so mad and frustrated about something. It's like as soon as he heard about Lucy having another love interest he snapped inside. Rogue quickly had gotten up off the ground to follow Gajeel once again.
He was surprised that he was Lucy's love interest. She was the only girl that would talk to him even though he was thought of as a crazy person to the people. He should have noticed the looks she would give him whenever they spoke to each other.
Rogue was never the one to be romantic with a girl. The closest he would get was when his friend Sting would set him up on a blind date, which he would hate. He never thought about his feelings with Lucy as much.
He loved her enough to make sure she was protected outside of the village. But he felt like he failed her when he couldn't be there when the wolf actually came to attack them. The memories and the scenes haunted him for months until he had seen her again.
She wasn't the same Lucy he knew her as. She was pregnant with the wolf's baby and he felt like he had just got stabbed in the heart. He didn't want to express his actual emotions because he knew it wasn't her fault. The best he could do was be supportive about the whole situation.
When he followed Gajeel in the store he pretended like he was buying something so it would look suspicious. Gajeel had seemed like he was debating on what he should buy. Although, when he did start picking out items, it looked like they were for babies.
'Has their child already been born into this world?' Rogue questioned himself. He hadn't seen Lucy for almost a month because he couldn't catch her in the woods like he did last time. On top of that, he didn't know where she stayed at.
Gajeel was checking out the items and Rogue had to go put all the items he randomly grabbed back. Something had bothered Rogue for the last couple of weeks. When Lucy had requested for him to kill Gajeel; he made it his plan to do so. The only problem was that Lucy wanted him to be smart about killing Gajeel.
Even he knew that he had to be smart about killing Gajeel. If he could heal himself from certain attacks then he was going to have to make sure the damage stayed permanent. Rogue had all the weapons that could kill Gajeel, but he had to do it when no one is around or will suspect him it was him.
Thanks to Levy's big mouth he was going to have to purposely stay out of the area. Maybe when he meets Lucy again he can discuss his plan with her. Not only was he going to kill the wolf, but he was also going to save Lucy from her miseries!
