1Chapter 1 - Catherine

Las Vegas wasn't a hard place to live. On the other hand, it wasn't exactly an easy place to live either. It was easy to get a job, but hard to find one that paid well. Lindsey, her daughter, was growing up fast and Catherine didn't have a lot of money to spare.

While Catherine worked at the hospital day shifts and ½ night shifts (her day shift was 9-5, then she had an hour break to pick Lindsey up from school and get her home, then the regular night shift was 6pm-9am, but she worked 6-midnight. IT WAS SO DAMN HARD! she felt like screaming. Control yourself, Catherine, she thought. Control yourself.

"Yo, Cathy!" she heard a voice cry.

Crap. Him again?

"Oh. Hi, Duffy." she said, without any emotion in her voice.

Cameron "Duffy" McGill was her supervisor, and a pretty stupid guy. He wasn't handsome, intelligent, or popular at the office, but for some reason, he hounded Catherine everywhere she went. And he called her Cathy. CATHY, dammit! Her name was C-A-T-H-E-R-I-N-E! Why couldn't Duffy see she wasn't interested? Oh, right. He was blind. Whoops.

He had a seeing eye dog named Abby and she was a German Shepard. No offense to Abby or Duffy, but wouldn't she love to give Abby a good swift kick! Oh well. Control yourself!

"Hiya, Duffy. What's up?"

"Oh, Cathy... where are you? Abby, find Cathy!" Duffy said to his dog.

And woof! went Abby when she found Catherine and Catherine groaned.

"Oh, good girl Abby! You found her! So what about dinner tonight, Cathy?"

"Duffy... I've told you once, I've told you a million times! NO, dammit, NO!"

"Oh." Said Duffy, and walked away.
