AN: I don't own Star Wars. This was written as a Christmas present for my friend idrilhadhafang, who ships Ben/Poe.
"Ben and Poe's Big Wedding"
By EsmeAmelia
"Mommy?"
Leia looked up from her datapad to find her five-year-old son and his best friend Poe, who was visiting for the weekend, staring at her with expectant eyes. "What is it, Ben?"
Immediately Ben sank down on one knee, never taking his eyes off his mother. "Mommy, will you marry me?"
Leia had to restrain herself from giggling at her son's cute face. Of course she knew that many young kids went through a stage where they thought they could marry family members - it was probably inevitable that Ben would go through it as well. "Oh sweetheart, I'm sorry," she said, ruffling Ben's hair, "but I'm already married to your father."
Ben's face fell, but he still nodded. "Oh, okay."
With that, he leapt to his bare feet and ran over to Han, who was seated at the other end of the couch and watching a smashball game on the holovid. "Daddy," he squealed, sinking to his knee once again, "will you marry me?"
Han gave his son that lopsided grin, leaning over to his level. "Well, I'd love to, buddy, but I'm already married to Mommy."
"Aw!" Ben exclaimed, sticking his lips out and slapping his own side in frustration.
"Well, maybe you can marry someone else," said Poe.
"Yeah," said Han, cupping Ben's ear in his hand. "You can get married when you grow up."
"But I wanna get married now!"
"Why now?" asked Leia.
"Cause Poe's gonna be my best man!" said Ben, eagerly pointing at his friend. "Then I'm gonna be his best man!"
The lopsided grin returned to Han's face, as if he thought he had a brilliant idea. "Well why don't you and Poe just marry each other? Then I could be best man for both of you."
Ben rose to his feet and looked at Poe, his lip curling in thought. "You wanna marry me, Poe?"
"I dunno, I was gonna be the best man," said Poe, curling his own lips in thought. "But . . . I guess we can get married and Mr. Han can be our best man." He turned his attention to Leia. "Ms. Leia, could you be the person who reads the stuff we're supposed to say to get married?"
Leia smiled as she turned off her datapad. "Of course."
"Yay!" Ben exclaimed. "Let's get the wedding ready!"
. . .
Half an hour later, the living room floor was covered with Ben's stuffed animals - they were going to be the wedding guests. Leia sat on the floor against the wall, facing all the toys, her datapad in her lap, and Han sat in front of her.
"Ain't this exciting?" Han asked. "Our little boy's gettin' married!"
Just then, both boys came running in, frowns on their faces. "Mooooommmy!" Ben shouted.
"What is it, dear?"
"Which one goes walking when two boys get married?"
"I wanna go walking!" shouted Poe.
"Go walking?" asked Leia.
"Yeah," said Ben. "You know, when a boy and girl get married, the girl goes walking with flowers and stuff. I wanna go walkin', but Poe won't let me!"
"That's cause I wanna go walking!" Poe repeated, his lips pursed. "I'm older, so I should go walking!"
With that, Han held up his hands. "Hey, hey, calm down! Tell you what, you can both go walkin'!"
The boys didn't look convinced. "Is that how they do it in real weddings when two boys get married?" Poe asked.
"Uh . . ." said Han, looking at Leia for support, "is it, Leia? You've been to more weddings than me."
Leia took a deep breath, putting on her best Mom smile. "Every wedding is different. Some couples want a great big party while other couples just want a few friends to come. Some couples want to get married at the beach or at a theme park or in a big building. So if you both want to walk, then you can both walk."
The boys looked at each other as if silently asking each other if it was all right if they both walked, but after a moment, they both nodded and ran back out of the room.
A few minutes later, the boys returned, but this time they were each holding a bouquet of paper flowers that Leia recognized as being from the same bouquet Ben had given her for Mother's Day a few weeks ago. The pink, blue, and lavender paper blossoms dangled from their hands oh-so-cute.
"We need music!" Ben shouted. "Sing!"
"La la la la la!" all four began singing, though Leia and Han sang the wedding march that had been played at their wedding while Ben and Poe sang the theme song to their favorite cartoon. Ben and Poe half-marched, half-skipped through the toys, the flowers bouncing in their hands. Once they reached the adults, both boys handed Han their bouquets since after all, he was the best man for both of them.
"We are gathered here today to witness the union of Ben Solo and Poe Dameron in marriage," Leia said in her clear political voice. "They stand here before their friends and family to declare their commitment to each other." She nodded at Ben. "Ben Solo, do you take Poe Dameron as your lawful husband?"
"I do!" Ben exclaimed, singing out the last word.
Leia nodded at Poe. "And do you, Poe Dameron, take Ben Solo as your lawful husband?"
"I do," said Poe.
"Okay," said Ben, "now comes the part where we get on our knees and hold hands."
The boys did so, giggling, and once again Leia had to restrain herself from laughing along with them. How did kids their age know how to be so cute?
"Ben Solo, repeat after me," Leia said. "I, Ben Solo . . ."
"I, Ben Solo . . ."
"Do take Poe Dameron . . ."
"Do take Poe Dameron . . ."
"To be my husband . . ."
"To be my husband . . ."
She ran through the in sickness and in health, in richness and in poverty, for better or for worse spiel with both boys, who looked inches away from bursting out in laughter as they repeated after her.
"I now pronounce you married," Leia finally said. "You may kiss."
"Kiss?" they both exclaimed at the same time.
"Yeah," said Han. "Kiss. Like this." He put down the flowers, grabbed Leia's face, and gave her lips a passionate kiss, exaggerating the smooching sounds.
"Ew!" Poe exclaimed. "Do we have to?"
"Yup!" Han said as he pulled out of the kiss. "It don't count if you don't kiss!"
Ben and Poe gave each other awkward looks, their mouths twisting. "Does it gotta be on the lips?" Ben asked.
"No, dear," Leia quickly interjected before Han could torment them some more.
"Okay," said Ben. He quickly leaned over and gave Poe a peck on the cheek. "There."
Poe did the same to Ben. "Okay, we kissed. Now let's PARTY!"
The rest of the afternoon was spent dancing around the living room with the newlyweds and the stuffed animals.
. . .
"Mommy?" Ben asked at dinner.
"Yes, sweetie?"
"Can me and Poe get married for real someday?"
Leia gazed at the two boys munching their nerf steaks almost in unison, finding herself smiling. "Who knows?" she said. "You never know what the future might bring."
