A/N: Before everything, SPOILERS AHEAD for manga chapters 335, 336, 337.
I dunno why I wrote this instead of finishing chapter 16 of my main fic, but I had this idea that wouldn't quit my head.
Aoyama Yuga is Best Boy and I don't care what anyone says.
The art ain't mine. I got a Ko-Fi and a Pa-Treon BTW (links on my profile).
Without further Ado!
Béatrice Aoyama was usually a calm and composed woman.
One had to be with her upbringing.
But now? She was as far from serenity as a woman in her shoes had any right to be.
She had initially come to the park with her son in a bid to spend her Saturday morning in peace and hopefully let Yuga have some fun in nature. Kids needed some physical activity after all, even if she was reluctant to have her baby interact with other children his age, lest he gets pushed away by them.
It wasn't her baby's fault.
He was simply different, and 'different' never worked out fine, especially in a conformist society like Japan.
They just had to move here from France! One of the more liberal countries in Europe where 'difference' wasn't looked down upon as much as here. She couldn't blame her husband either because of his work.
Her darling was simply devoted to the family.
But that didn't change the fact her baby felt like an outcast because of his quirklessness, and she had resolved that would change!
Her darling husband had gone through some of his connections and might have found a solution to their issue.
Hopefully, her little Yuga would love it!
But she had to find her baby in the first place!
She'd looked away for five minutes to chat with a fellow mother and Yuga had decided to vanish.
Béatrice began panicking. What if he got lost? bullied or worse?
What if a villain got to him.
Breathe! Béatrice! Breathe!
"YUGA! OU EST-TU MON POUSSIN?" She screamed, heedless of the other parents giving her wary looks.
Aoyama was not used to wandering away from his mother. His parents were quite protective of him like any would at his tender age of five. His choice to wander off deeper into the park while his mother was distracted by a lady was one born out of pure childish curiosity and thirst for adventure.
There wasn't much for him to do other than that. Kids his age tended to push him away very quickly because he was different.
It wasn't really his fault, they simply always asked him the same question and he, being the well-mannered child he was, always answered honestly.
...
"You wanna play with us? Well, what's your quirk?"
"Désolé, but I'm quirkless"
"Quirkless? Ha! Go away then!"
...
He had thus chosen to stave off his boredom in the only way a kid like him could: Seeking adventure.
He'd gone deeper into the park's woods, hoping to find something cool, like a cave he could yell into or an animal he could pet.
You know? Normal stuff.
Cause that's definitely what he wanted to be: Normal and included.
Even going as far as to learn a second language earlier than most children his age did (at his father's urging). Wouldn't do for kids to call him weird on top of being quirkless after all. He even made sure to always clarify himself whenever he slipped and spoke in French.
Pushing aside a branch, he winced internally as it caught onto his frilly shirt. It was not only his favorite, but it was one of the ones Maman said he looked the best in, and if there was one thing Yuga knew, it was that people liked those that sparkled and looked good.
Like the super cool Knights from the stories!
Being accepted included being liked and who didn't like Knights? They were the Heroes of fairy tales!
Walking through a bush, the boy finally got out of the little thicket he had been navigating through. He had expected to find something nice, like a clearing with a pond to see fishes or ducks. He had not expected coming across a crying child sitting on the shore of the small river that passed through the park.
Evidently, he came onto a creek, not a pond.
Still! Focus! Crying boy his age!
What would a Knight do?
Béatrice had gone out of breath a few minutes ago, her frantic sprinting having taken a toll on her. Her voice had gone hoarse from screaming Yuga's name and she was getting desperate.
So much for a peaceful morning!
With a huff, she leaned against the bark of a nearby tree and took out her phone. What was the number again? 110?
As she touched on the call button to phone the authorities, her ears caught the unmistakable voice of her baby boy.
"Bonjour mon ami, are you well?"
She peaked out of a tree in panic, checking to see that yes, Yuga was just across the creek from her, well within her reach.
"Moshi Moshi, NPA how can we-" the voice of the officer on the phone was abruptly cut off as Béatrice hung up.
He was there! Phew! She'd been so worried!
"Y-yes, sorry" another boy that she'd just noticed answered her son. She could tell the boy was her Yuga's age and from the looks of things, had fallen into the water if his wet clothes were anything to go by.
"Why are you crying then? Did you lose your maman?" her baby asked the boy as he knelt next to him.
Oh, he was such a kind soul!
Béatrice leaned against the tree to listen in to the conversation.
"N-no, Kacchan just didn't want to play with me" the green-haired child answered while wiping his tears.
"Pourquoi? Did you do something wrong?" Yuga prodded more.
Béatrice was initially worried about her baby being rejected again, even if he had good intentions. All her worries were thrown out of the window with the child's next words.
"I-" he hiccuped. "It-s my fault, I'm quirkless, a useless Deku" he lamented.
The mother withheld a gasp at the revelation.
Izuku Midoriya didn't give much attention to the boy next to him, opting to answer his questions honestly and briskly, and waiting for the eventual negative reaction that would follow.
He'd come here following Kacchan and his friends, wanting to play explorers with them. It had been going well up until Kacchan fell down the creek. While his friends stayed on the fallen tree they used as a bridge, Izuku had gone down instinctively in an effort to help the one he saw as his friend.
He'd been rejected and left in the dust.
Odds are he'd be rejected again by this stranger.
He was different after all.
"You too?"
Izuku's mind ground to a halt.
What?
"Wh-what did you s-say?" he tentatively asked, almost afraid he heard wrong.
"Je suis quirkless too!" He heard the boy exclaim, this time with excitement.
Izuku finally looked at the other boy with wide, puffy red eyes. He hurriedly wiped away his tears and cheeks and turned on his hands and knees to look at the blond.
A blond and blue-eyed boy his age wearing very nice clothes and a giant smile.
"R-really?" He asked one more time.
"Oui!" the blond boy nodded and stuck out his hand in greeting. "Je suis-" he fake coughed, "Ahem, I mean, I'm Yuga Aoyama! What's your name?"
"M-Midoriya Iz-Izuku!"
"Nice to meet you Midoriya! Want some cheese?" Yuga reached into his pocket and took out a small plastic bag with string cheese in it.
"S-sure!" Izuku smiled and took the gift.
The two boys, now both feeling much better, got off the ground and took off next to each other, any trace of sadness having been replaced by childish cheer. They didn't notice the mother nearby covering her mouth and crying tears of joy.
They were too preoccupied with their newfound friend.
It might have been spontaneous, but it felt right.
They both weren't so different after all.
A/N: Liked it? Want more?
I ain't sure I can promise that.
