Hi guys, Hollow Sea here. I started writing fanfics for my own pleasure after I started reading people's works. I'm a huge fan of Marco x Luffy but it's so uncommon that I had to start writing my own lol. Anyway, try not to judge my preferences and imagination and :) have fun. (This work is crossposted in Ao3 and Wattpad)

I do not own One Piece (I'm not that great).

WARNING: Content is malexmale, contains sexual scenes, Rape/non-con elements, Violence

Clearer summary before you start reading and complain, this story is focused on Marco x Luffy. Luffy has a different past, he didn't meet shanks but the setting is still in One Piece universe. Diff!DF, OOC (very OOC), OP!Luffy, Darker!Luffy, More badass, Smart!Luffy. There are things I maintained and some changed, probably not too much. Also, of course I'm saving Ace, Thatch and Whitebeard so they're alive 3

Well if there's any other warning I will add it in the chapter beginning.

This is just a side hobby, so I'm sorry for in advance for inconsistent postings.

Chapter 1 ~ Encounter

[I have a picture inserted here but if it doesn't work here go to Ao3, if you want to see it]

Luffy's POV

It was another day on his lonely island, it was an uninhabited island if you don't count him and the wild beasts living in the forests. It was an island in the new world that couldn't be found by a log pose, it wasn't small nor big, just perfect actually.

There was a small forest with a variety of flora and fauna including edible fruits "which was his main go to since he doesn't want to hunt the animals.

Deeper into the forest was a waterfall that flows from a cliff into a small water reservoir perfect for water source. Which turns into a river and streams that lead back into the ocean.

The cliff was his favourite spot, it was filled with wild flowers yellow and red. However, the best thing about it was that it faces the west where the sun sets.

Sometimes, okay most of the time Luffy would just sit there for hours smelling the sea breeze and watching the sun merge with the beautiful blue waves. He had always loved the seas, it just screams FREEDOM and freedom is what Luffy wants so bad he would probably die if he lost it.

It was the same too today, Luffy was just sitting there legs dangling watching the beautiful scene while petting his furry friends. He never knew why but he was born with the ability to understand and communicate with animals, and they were drawn to him.

'Not that I mind the company,' he thought, smiling slightly. Living on an island alone gets lonely after all.

"This is for the best," he said, repeating this often. 'It was the best way to avoid harming people and getting hurt again... Not to mention with the whole world Government after me' he sighed.

Another day passed uneventfully but after years of hell he went through he had learned to appreciate the calm and peace, all simple things were appreciated greatly, honestly.

It was getting dark so Luffy stood up and stretched after sitting for hours. "It's time for me to go home, mina" he smiled all teeth but not as wide as they could've been and his eyes were a little dulled. He was leaving before something caught his eyes.

Below the cliff near the rocks in the sea was something blue and... feathery? He raised an eyebrow, and his curiosity kept him there watching it. His old self would've jumped right at it but he had learned the hard way to be smarter and more cautious and even suspicious…

Then the wave shifted the blue mass of feathers and Luffy realised it was a bird and he jumped off the cliff. Yes jumped, he might look slender and weak but he was not to be underestimated. There was a reason the world government was after him after all.

Now, any devil user would be sane enough to not jump into the sea but he's devil fruit was special and 'I am SANE thank you very much!'. Honestly, he talks to himself a lot since he lived alone and couldn't care less anymore.

He wasn't a great swimmer at all, obviously wasting the privilege of being able to swim despite his devil fruit.

'Damn these cliffs were filled with rocks,' he thought as his legs and arms were cut and scraped due to the wave pushing him against the rough rocks surrounding the cliffs. With swift motion he lifted up the bird and placed it on it's shoulders.

"you're huge." He realised it was larger than he thought, about the size of an adult dog.

He swam to the nearest estuary (where the river meets the sea) and plopped the bird gently on the grass.

Now that Luffy looked at it, it was really pretty with azure feathers and a long majestic looking body and neck. It's tails were long and gold in colour and he could swear they glowed slightly. 'Shishishishi looks like I found a mystery bird' he thought before frowning when he realised it wasn't breathing 'dammit'. So he tried to do CPR as well as he knew how, on a bird.

"is this even right?" He asked himself slightly frustrated until it coughed up tons of sea water making him release a breath he didn't realise he was holding.

'Honestly, why do I care so much for a random bird,' he thought, slightly amused. Staring at it now Luffy was thinking how lucky it was that HE found it! If any pirate, slavers, or those damned disgusting nobles did, he might've been sold and enslaved causing him to frown. The thought of it made his stomach turn, reminding him of those dark days until he noticed lazy ocean eyes staring at him.

That snapped him out of his thoughts and he stared at those beautiful ocean eyes unblinkingly 'he's…scared? sad? pained? How could a bird's eyes be that expressive?' Tilting his head slightly in interest.

Luffy communicated with many animals before and none looked that expressive 'a mystery indeed,' he smiled. The bird seemed a bit shocked and confused for a second, don't ask how he was able to read emotions so well, he had been able to since he could remember.

So he smiled gently and reassuringly, "why are you so sad…? Don't worry Mystery bird, I won't hurt you I promise". The bird seemed satisfied after several seconds of staring and drifted back to sleep.

Marco's POV

It was a bad day? week? That night there was a crazy storm worthy of the new world. He woke up with a start due to a horrible dream and loud thunder.

'Don't think I can sleep anymore' he thought, glancing at his desk. He sighed, maybe he should head to the galley, get some coffee and work on his paperwork like the workaholic he is, not that he would ever admit that out loud.

So he did, walked carefully to the galley not wanting to end up in the sea after all. When he reached the galley his breath hitched, what greeted him was the scene of Thatch bleeding on the floor covered in his own blood.

"THATCH!" He shouted and noticed Teach was there grinning while holding a bloody dagger on one hand and Thatch's devil fruit on the other looking like he got the best Christmas gift.

Processing everything quickly, he glared at Teach and the man dared laugh "Zehahahaha, are you sure you want to leave lil ol' Thatch bleeding there, he might die~' he teased with no remorse whatsoever.

With no hesitation he rushed to Thatch's side to put pressure and heal the wound slightly but it wouldn't work well especially with all the blood loss, Teach smirked and ran out of the galley.

'No way in hell am I letting him escape yoi!' He blasted his haki just enough to wake up the commanders and oyaji while shouting for help.

Soon enough, the commanders came "Get the nurse! Teach stabbed Thatch for his devil fruit yoi HURRY and he's escaping!". Izo the 16th division commander quickly rushed to get the nurses while Oyaji and Ace the newly appointed 2nd division commander looked absolutely enraged as he burst out in flames and they both rushed out to chase Teach.

After a while the nurses came and he quickly left to give them space and to make Teach pay. When he came out to deck he was slightly surprised, there were several enemy crew he assumed were Teach's and some crew members were fighting too. They were retreating so he flew to the enemy's ship and noticed some of his crew members were there.

"Laki, what are you doing here, yoi?!"

"Ahh i jumped before the ship left and now I'm sort of trapped here, hehe."

Marco however just nodded still looking for Teach, if he had been more careful he would've noticed Laki holding a gun with a slight smirk behind him. He trusted his crew mates after all and that led to his downfall.

Laki shot him from the back and he dodged too late and the sea stone bullet was embedded in his sides and weakened him, his eyes widened at the realisation of what just happened and felt his heart clench at the thought of more betrayals.

Taking a deep breath and calming himself not betraying his usual calm demeanour, he turned around and fought Laki as he had slight sea stone resistance through training but Teach grabbed him by the neck and broke his arm. 'He's stronger than we thought, what the hell. Just what else were you hiding yoi?!'.

"STOP and let my crew go NOW or I'll drop him," said Teach. Marco would fight but Teach was dipping him halfway into the ocean rendering him completely useless. The fight stopped and the enemy climbed or swam onto their ship,

"Sorry yoi," he said

But as usual, oyaji smiled at him and said "it's not your fault son" before glaring at Teach looking angry and disappointed and boomed "Let him go NOW."

Teach lifted Marco up out of the sea but just as he pried the bullet out of his sides and transformed into a phoenix, he was stabbed from the back and dropped into the sea.

The last thing he heard from his family was "MARCO!" as the sea dragged him away from his family faster than Namur (a fishman in the crew) could even swim. 'Is this it yoi?' He thought as he drifted into unconsciousness.

The next time he woke up , he felt like SHIT, he felt weak, he felt sad, he felt betrayed! Overall just HORRIBLE.

'How am i alive yoi?' he thought and tried moving but he couldn't. He was in his bird form and panicked a little, he was vulnerable. As a phoenix he knows just how many people would die to get their hands on him for tons of beli and as a pirate it's the same as well, especially now that he's weakened.

Slowly he opened his eyes and the first thing he saw were a pair of big round onyx eyes, it looked frowning and angry but not at him. He's not sure since his blurry eyes could be tricking him.

He blinked to clear the cloudy blurry image and those onyx eyes were now staring right into him like it's judging his soul. He felt exposed under those eyes, and the boy? girl? tilted their head to side slightly like their confused and he would say it was adorable if he's not shocked and confused, when they suddenly smiled.

'What is she thinking yoi?' he thought, though the smile didn't seem greedy nor fake it was just gentle and warm. But after what happened with Teach, can he even trust his own judgement?

Remembering it hurts, his throat clenched and he wants to cry but he won't, not in front of a stranger and potential enemy, 'am i going to be sold off or caged, yoi,' he thought.

"Why are you so sad…? Don't worry Mystery bird, I won't hurt you, I promise," they said.

'How did he know yoi?! It's like he could read my thoughts,' surprising Marco. They flashed a smile at him that would've made them look naive if those eyes just didn't look so old and tired. But for some reason he felt safe and so he drifted back to sleep.

Luffy's POV

'Eh the bird seems to trust me a little now' he thought as he took off his shirt to dry it and wrap the bird up before he lifted him up carefully cradling it like a cat on his arm.

He walked back home slowly, it was a small cabin by the beach made of wood and bricks. He got a band of pirates terrorising a nearby island to build it before killing them all and feeding them to sea kings. He's not sorry, he doesn't feel sorry for people, especially those he hates.

Anyway, the cabin was small and big enough for 1 or 2 people. It had a single bed with dark blue comforter by a window, a comfortable small kitchen in white at one corner, a bathroom in another and a huge bookshelf with a round red carpet and a black bean bag he stole.

Yes, he reads now, what else can he do? Besides he needs all the knowledge he could get to survive alone. Other than that, he had a desk where he sometimes paints. That was how he earned his money, by singing in bars and restaurants when visiting the nearby island or selling his paintings.

[I have a picture inserted here but if it doesn't work here go to Ao3, if you want to see it]

So, he quickly went to get some clean towels and placed them on the dining table to make a soft and comfortable nest. He then slowly placed the bird on it to examine it's wounds. Luffy then noticed a gunshot wound and a stab wound at the back, it's amazing that the bird was still alive.

'Why would they stab a bird on the back? Unless it's not actually a bird...' but that would mean it was a devil fruit user and he/she was stabbed in the back. That's just sad, Luffy was not a stranger to betrayals after all and he knows it hurts. Well, he'll wait till it's awake to see if he could communicate with it.

I hope you enjoyed that 1st chapter
