Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together

Festival Madness!

=~;~=

Link was woken by the sound of song and the light of the early morning sunrise, the Rito had been singing like this for the last three days. He still wasn't sure what it was about but this was the only time he had heard them singing early in the morning. He got up and paused, as he noticed that Revali was singing near the edge. Link slowly made his way to the doorway and just listened to the pleasant, lilting melody. He smiled before suddenly sneaking off, toward the end of the song. He then used one of the updrafts, to get to the top of Vah Medoh. Revali had of course beaten him there as the other was standing before him, the rito warrior was facing him as well, which told him the other had seen him sneak off.

"Did you think I wouldn't notice?" Revali questioned.

"Notice what?" Link asked, innocently.

"You, running away again," Revali accused.

"I wasn't running, I just really wanted to get up here," Link replied, he walked closer before stopping at a distance that he thought the other two had been at. As he watched, he noticed Revali's tail shaking side to side rapidly and wondered briefly what it meant. He watched as the rito stared at him intently, before closing his eyes and opening them again. Then the other male began his dance, he was so captivated by it, that he had totally forgotten to pay attention to the footwork. He did know that there were a few spins and a lot of graceful movements that showed off the other male's plumage in the morning sunlight. He had to turn to continue watching and occasionally turn in the other direction. The other male's feathers seemed to have a sheen with multiple colors to them, making them appear more than just the deep Navy that he usually saw. He wondered if this was only way to be able to see them this way, in this kind of lighting.

When Revali ended his dance the other male added a little flair at the end, that had him biting his lip. There were a few whistles around them and it was only then that he realized, they had had an audience. He hadn't even noticed them one bit while Revali was.. well.. dancing, it was the only way he could describe the graceful movements. Link had no idea how he was going to even remotely learn that dance, let alone where he could go to practice. He was still thinking about it, when he realized Revali was still standing there watching him.

"Shall we go and enjoy the festivities?" Revali asked, Link nodded but before he could follow Revali, a female rito walked up to him. He peered over to see that Revali was watching her, with narrowed eyes.

"You missed all the moves didn't you?" she asked, sweetly. He decided not to answer, she giggled anyway and then she leaned forward to whisper in his ear. "Meet me at the end of the bridge before tonight, if you wish to practice, I can show you where." She then leaned back and Link smiled giving a slight nod. She giggled. "Don't tell anyone okay? It's the courtee's secret." He nodded once more and she flew off, Revali suddenly approached him.

"What did she say?" the male sounded annoyed and maybe a little worried. His feathers were also fluffed, Link wanted so badly to reach out and play with one but he resisted the urge.

"It's um.. a secret only shared with Courtee's?" he replied, questioningly. Revali looked a little surprised, before looking to where she had flown off to. He nodded and relaxed visibly, before clearing his throat.

"We should go then and enjoy the festival," Revali seemed a bit flustered. He grinned, Link really enjoyed seeing the other male in this state. He nodded and followed Revali to the edge, the rito warrior was first to jump with him closely behind. He wanted to take an easy day today, so he made it a point to stop and listen to some of the performers. Then he stopped at an eating contest and signed himself up, Revali opted to just sit and watch. Link sat next to Daruk but he wasn't really certain he could win, considering the meal of choice. It started with a Rock Roast, when the time started they all dug in, one of the competitor's was out in that very first round being unable to even bite into the meal.

Link had no issue with it and soon started on the next dish, he wondered briefly if Daruk could even eat the dish of another country, but then focused on just getting through as many of the meals as he possibly could. This was a contest after all, a few more plates and then things really slowed down. He was getting really full, he looked over to see that Daruk was still putting away the plates and smiled. He took one last bite and he was done, couldn't eat anymore. He put the last plate on the stack and he was out, leaving only Daruk and another goron still going for the win. Daruk was ahead of the other goron by two plates but the other still hadn't given up. Link noticed the moment that Daruk slowed down, as they had gotten back around to another Rock Roast. The other goron finally had a chance to catch up but just as he got his next plate, he looked like he was slowing down even more.

Daruk managed to finish the Rock Roast but was patting his tummy as the next course came around, the other goron didn't make it through that last plate however and Daruk was dubbed the winner. There were many cheers and even some whistles from the crowd, Link couldn't help but applaud as well. After the rewards were given out for the eating contest, Link decided to browse the shops and even stopped at a table, where a couple of rito females were painting faces. Link picked what he wanted painted and then sat as still as he could, with a few minor laughing issues from the tickling brush.

"How does it look?" Link asked Revali once the two were finished. Revali only grinned at him, he thought the other wasn't going to answer.

"I would say it looks exactly like the picture," Revali replied then. "But with a different canvas, it's still very similar and even more perfect than it previously was." Link was surprised, he wasn't quite sure if the rito was as sure of his own answer and it was very obvious that Revali was not used to giving compliments. Link grabbed Revali's wing then and led him away from the table, he wanted to go see what all the shopkeeper's were selling.

One vendor in particular caught his eye, they were selling stuffed toys that looked like, well.. them. There were several in fact that looked similar to Revali, he was even a little embarrassed to spot ones that looked like him. They even had ones that resembled the Princess, Urbosa, Mipha and Daruk. Link bit his lip contemplating if he wanted one, he was surprised that Revali was patiently waiting as he decided as well. Link eventually decided to buy the one that looked like Revali, much to the other males agitation.

"Why don't you like this one?" Link asked.

"It looks nothing like me," Revali explained.

"It looks a little like you," Link argued. "Same color, same markings, besides how often are we going to come across a gem like this?" He was mostly teasing the rito warrior because it brought out something familiar in the other male, something genuine. Revali didn't continue the argument, surprisingly. He wondered if the other male was deciding his next words carefully.

"It.. sort of does but the head is much to large," Revali pointed out. "It's completely out of proportion."

"But that's what makes it cute," Link blurted out. Then he realized what he said and his heart picked up pace, flushing his face with warmth. It really was cute though and he wouldn't take those words back. Link stopped as Revali moved in front of him, he looked really stern at that moment.

"Cute huh?" he asked. He seriously wished Revali hadn't heard that, but what was said was said. Link made a point of lifting the toy's wings and wiggling it's feet at Revali, before answering.

"Cute!" Link said, with conviction. He was challenging the other male to deny it, it was a comical few moments of watching the warrior place his wing over his face. When the other male finally removed his wing, there was a slight grin on his beak.

"Cute, he says," Revali muttered, while walking away. Link chuckled and quickly caught up, to walk beside the warrior.

"What? Is there something wrong with this being cute?" he teased.

"Only if it gets more attention than me," Revali replied. Link felt his heart flutter at that and his face flushed full of heat again, setting his ears a flame or so it felt like. "I noticed your face turns an interesting shade of red when I compliment you but why are you turning red now?" It was an observation but the fact that Revali had noticed, made him a bit more embarrassed.

"I'm.. not used to getting compliments from you or being teased like this," Link explained. He would definitely need to splash cold water on his face later, otherwise he feared he would soon resemble a spicy pepper, if he didn't already. "It's a little.. embarrassing.. but in a good way." He rubbed the back of his neck and looked over to see Revali was regarding him carefully, as though trying to understand.

"So it is from embarrassment.. but that isn't a bad thing?" Revali asked.

"Yeah, it's hard to explain," Link answered. "Why do Rito blush?" He wanted to change the subject to the other male.

"It depends," Revali said, he looked to be thinking it over carefully. "It is usually caused by great excitement but can also be a result of happiness. When I say excitement, I mean the kind of excitement you find in the midst of battle. You can probably tell the difference if you look close enough, in battle we are tense and are ready to spring into action."

"And when you are happy, then you are more relaxed?" Link guessed.

"Yes," Revali answered. Link looked at the sky then only now noticing it had changed to a deep orange, the sun would be setting soon and he had yet to go and meet that female rito. He figured it wouldn't hurt to at least practice, just in case anyway.

"I have to go, I'll see you tomorrow?" Link asked.

"Bright and early, on top of Vah Medoh," Revali replied. "Do not be too late." Link wondered if Revali meant late to bed or late to meeting him. Maybe it was a bit of both, he smiled and nodded.

"I won't be late," He then dashed away toward the bridges, that lead to the main stretch of land, which nearly encompassed the village in a wide arching circle. As he crossed the last bridge he saw her, he stopped once across to catch his breath. She giggled at him and waited until he was ready.

"I almost thought you wouldn't come," She said. "I thought, maybe I was wrong and you didn't like him that much." She giggled again as she walked away, Link followed her until they were at a clearing. The clearing itself wasn't really anything special, it had a huge stone platform in the center and several patterned grooves in it's surface. "This is where I used to come to practice and many, many other a rito who wanted to accept their favorite male. Though when I started to practice I didn't have anyone courting me, little embarrassing, I loved to do this one so much." He looked to where she was pointing, it looked like an eight with it's two corners and the dot between the bottom and top lines. "I was so happy when someone finally started to court me and he too just so happened to like this one, I accepted him right away."

"Wow," Link replied. "That's amazing." She nodded vigorously and clapped a bit in her excitement.

"So when you see him dance, keep an eye on him but also watch his claw work too," She said, pointing to her own talons. "He will probably be super happy if you do and count the turns before the button hook." Link was surprised at that, she had noticed his style? "It's much easier to see a dance as an onlooker but the interest you showed, just made me really want to help you! As I said up there, you were so into his performance, you missed the movements yes?" Link felt his face heat up at that and nodded.

"Yeah, I did miss that," Link replied.

"Aww, well tomorrow, I am sure you will get the chance to see the intricacies," She said. "Yep, I bet tomorrow you will be able to start practicing, oh make sure to make time." Link nodded. "Bye bye and good luck." She flew off then, leaving him alone in the clearing, he pulled out the sheikah slate and marked the location with a star.

"There, now I will be able to find it again," Link stated, to no one. He hugged the toy close to him, there was still daylight left. He could at least try a spin, even if he didn't do them properly. So he did try them, twice he slipped and fell right onto his bottom and third time he managed to catch himself. "Maybe not." He laughed a bit before looking over the different grooves in the stone. He paused as he came across one that looked similar to what Revali had done, he knelt and ran his fingers across each circle and then along the "Button hook?"

Did Revali know where this was? Or did the males learn their dances another way? Were they passed down from father to son? Link shook his head, the area began to darken around him, he would have to worry about that later. Right now he needed to get back and get some rest. So off he ran making his way back to Rito Village, while holding the stuffed toy close to his chest the whole way there.
